Also please consider checking out Design Frame’s video on Steel Wool: ua-cam.com/video/miufGZJSKL4/v-deo.htmlsi=-wkJiKGU5-_GDlN4 He goes way more in-depth than I do and is worth a watch for your own knowledge (and before I get comments, I finished this script before his video came out, yes we have similar talking points).
I left another comment explaining in more detail, but this mess of a story calls into question what is real and what is artist interpretation about the original six games. Everything we see in those games likely was in this universe's version as well, thus explaining Ennard, Scrap Baby, and the other one you mentioned being in Help Wanted 2. However, none of this explains why Cassie's dad was in the pizzaplex before Cassie (judging by him being turned into the staff bot) or why him giving Roxy the mask in VR gives it to her physically.
Probably the stupidest thing Scott has done, and he has done a good bucketful of stupid things. How are they gonna make the game follow the story... if you don't tell them the story?
He didn't have to do it for Help Wanted, which was way more simple in terms of story and it worked out wonderfully. He assumed he could do the same for SB, but with just how story driven that game is it crashed and burned. Just remember though, Scott always learns from his mistakes
@@the_cat_the_catthe FNaF lore has always just been like that Wallace and Gromit scene with the penguin laying train track directly in front of a moving train, it's wild that these people thought there was a master plan
@@Imperial_Squid Technically there was. Scott had planned the Mimic since 2019 and Burntrap(as it was originally intended to appear) was supposed to be buildup for the Mimic reveal.
Honestly I don’t totally blame steel wool for security breach but I will totally blame Scott for being a bad producer and bad project lead. As someone who could’ve made the call for cutting back on the scope of security breach. That’s the role of a producer and Scott only really works as a solo developer and doesn’t really function best when leading a team
@@crashbandit0483 That's because Into The Pit was based on a book, so there wasn't anything to fumble around with, just a nice an easy game adaptation. They had a solid structure from the beginning, so it all just took translating it into a game format.
It was a culmination of pandemic, scott's bad communication, and steelwool's ambitions. Weather they improve, is left to be seen, but in the end it depends on the person. Some like the current ai driven story, some don't. All i know is i have more hope for the movie series then the games.
@@I_Dont_Believe_In_Salad dude, sure the Devs overscoped, but Steel wool wanted a delay so they could finish and polish the game, at least somewhat Sony said no so no delay (which people blame fans for sending death threats for it) If Sony hadn't denied their delay than the game would've been alot better over scoped or not
Feels like you’re blaming steel wool a bit too much for the story being bad, especially since it’s entirely Scott’s fault for not explaining the story to the team. They worked with what they were given, and that was just a bunch of blank puzzle pieces they had to mash together. Scott should’ve corrected any errors Steel Wool made in interpreting his story before the game launched.
RIGHT exactly. Scott shouldve been the one to communicate what story he wanted to tell if he had such a specific vision in mind. throwing what probably seemed like random easter eggs at the studio during production isnt how it shouldve been handled
@Adventist1997 In the latest interview Dawko had with Scott, he admitted he hadn't shared the plot of the game with Steel Wool during development. Instead he just gave them ... pieces? I'm not sure what he meant by that, but even he understands that it was a mistake and that it isn't Steel Wool's fault that they tried to make sense of whatever he was giving them. There's interviews with Steel Wool employees that verify this too, with them saying that there were sooo many miscommunications with Scott. He'd just tell them to add something to the game without further explanation so they... came up with an explanation themselves, which maybe they shouldn't have, but the game had to make sense to the player as well so... I wouldn't be so harsh on them. Scott asked way too much of them with FNaF SB, considering they were a small team of VR game developers before FNaF. Overall, if we're blaming someone, it should be Scott. Even if this was his first time working with a team, having everyone on the same page is like... something you learn in highschool? Team Project 101, if you may. It's the first thing you do when you arrange a team!!!!! How he never caught up with what was going on during revisions is beyond me.
@anonymouswinter I interpreted that FNAF SB was the one they messed up on. He mentioned how SB was meant to have Burntrap just be an illusion/ghost. I don't recall him saying HW was messed up.
I'd say both scott and steel wool lmao 😭so far i havent liked all of games from steel wool (yes, even ruin DLC, that one is overrated) it took so long for me to finally like a modern fnaf game which was the Into The Pit one.
@@Alex-bg8foafter fnaf UCN I was done with the series not as in hating it but glad to know we got a conclusion to most things. Once I saw gameplay of fnaf security breach I was like yeah no I’ll just watch game theory videos on it and security breach ruin was something I could care less about until Into the Pit came out that I like it actually caught my attention now I haven’t played it but seeing my favorite youtubers play it was entertaining.
That interview where he had to answer that question about why Security breach's story was so confusing even for a fnaf game the moment he said he didn't give the devs the full plot of the game everything made sense It just makes me want to see the story Scott actually wanted to tell here.
@kauanjos3199 Scott kinda sorta already was canon to the games in Fnaf world and it's not the canon ending but he does exist! And Fnaf world actually is canon to the main series games but he literally can be canon in the same way the nightmare Animatronics are imaginary villains created by the crying child during his coma before dying.
While I agree that letting such an amateur studio like Steel Wool handle a game like Security Breach was a bad call, and the leadership on Scott’s part absolutely could have been better, I still can’t really deny the clear passion and care that the studio seems to have for this franchise. You honestly just have to look at an event like PaxWest 2024 to see that. They could have just set up a small area to play their new game demo, but no, they commissioned a well-known community cosplayer to make props for the whole event, added in games like arts n’ crafts, and gave away some of their props for free at the end of the event. I also heard that they even asked the people who played their demo for feedback on the game so they’d know what to improve. Honestly, this action as well as Ruin and Help Wanted 2 have showed me that Steel Wool does care about doing right by this franchise as well as the fan base, no matter how “in over their heads” they can be sometimes. It’s why despite everything, I’m actually really optimistic for Secret of the Mimic and everything that will come afterwards. Heck call me too positive and trusting, but I actually feel confident about FNAF being in the hands of Steel Wool now that I know from countless accounts just how sweet and dedicated the staff really seems to be.
Heck the Pizzaplex shows their love for the series. The amount of attention to detail and care put into it is insane, yes they went overboard but the care is there. All they need to do is stop focusing on the art side of things too much and put more focus on the gameplay.
You can't make a game without passion. You can't make a game on *solely* passion. It also requires skill, dedication, and intelligence. The studio had the dedication but it didn't have the skill and their project lead, scott, didn't have the intelligence.
as an artist myself of well over 10+ years, i can say that tracing isn't inherently bad. Many artists use tracing as a way to learn and develop new skills. However it IS bad when you decide to post the traced work on social media and doing so without crediting the original artist or without asking for permission. Tldr: tracing good if kept offline / for practice reasons. Tracing bad when posted
I agree. I think at some point, every artist is tracing, HOWEVER, if you post any of those on social media, especially making it obvious that it is for a paid project/smth you get money for, do not expect anything good. even my mom could trace, then hire her! I'm not even mentioning myself, starving artist.
When it comes to artwork I’m actually pretty scummy and just remove watermarks from artwork out of spite, and I do trace a lot, but I never post it lol. I guess I’m just content to be quietly evil and spiteful
There's only 2 people in the world that knows the full truth of fnaf's lore, and that's Scott and matpat, and neither of them are gonna actually tell us
And both of the above have different ideas about what the full lore should be too (Almost like it's a hodge podge of random ideas cobbled together over the years... Nah, that couldn't be the case!)
Yeah no, MatPat most definitely did not get told the lore Bro was on a GTLive stream saying how the MCI didn't happen in 1985 but instead 1986 and will still time to time spurt crap about the books being exclusively parallels to the games. He probably just met Scott, chatted with him over some food and then said goodbye
In my opinion Steel Wool didn't ruin anything, they were rushed. Weren't told the lore properly by Scott. Being the man he is he did admir his faulf in an interview. I have faith that once Steel Wool truly gets their feet under them they'll do a great job. But until then we've got so many fantastically made fnaf fan games to play and praise till Steel Wool's next game.
3:36 it turned out that the reason why for the original teaser is because the devs legit thought that the models were made by Scott because how good and accurate they were to the actual games

I'm glad people get to catch on, how much Scott fumbles as a creator, instead of pretending he's some mastermind with high IQ master writing, and it only took him surpervising an indie game studio for people to finally realize that. Remember guys, Steel Wool is ran by people who try their hardest, to keep the legacy alive, while they do deserve criticism, don't forget they're still dependent on Scott as the person with the copyright... or however this legal thing works between them. Edit: Ok, watching the video till the end, Steel Wool really needs to lock in, the fuck were those interview responses
Dependent on Scott or not, they suck as a development team. They're over-ambitious, and their leadership is garbage. Blame Scott for the lore (although the miscommunication should be blamed on both of them, not just Scott), but know that Scott is not responsible for the development of Security Breach being absolutely horrible.
@reaperz5677 yes true they definitely need to scale it down with their projects, but saying it was mainly their fault feels rather bad, and makes them seem like a scape goat for the community. Look, i've been out of the fandom ever since Sister Location, and i'm still confused on that whole Scott's retired thing.
Well, you yourself said it: Supervising a indie game is not the same as writing it ._. And trying your hardest does not justify major bugs, 0 game design and awful writing xD
@@no_fishman9669 blaming it on Scott seems to be the scapegoat for Steel wool. People need to stop defending them so they aren’t complacent to keep producing shit.
I want to tell you how much I love this video.. This 2 hour long rant about Steel Wool lives rent free in my head. I have now watched it a total of 8 times and am going back in for my 9th.... the comedy, the writing, the jokes, the intonation, delivery of the lines, the voice and tones ranging from dry bored to full sarcasm and fake surprise which I love. The way you emphasis what you're talking about with the tone of your voice. honestly it's everything about this video. I love it so much. it makes me crack up laughing with tears rolling down my cheeks. the writing, the vocal delivery, the editing and the topic puts this video in my top 5 favorite youtube videos ever of all time.
The saddest part of security breach is that the endings aren't just "comic books", they are literally just the storyboards with added color and animation, they just completely fucking gave up.
Think I read up somewhere that the comic endings were more of a visual clue. The fully rendered and animated one is the canon route while the others that are comic book form aren't which means no one but Glamrock Freddy and Gregory were saved.
If I have my FNAF lore right, everyone here is right. At one point in time the fully rendered cutscene was canon, but with Ruin's introduction, the Princess Quest ending became canon and Burntrap is no longer a part of the timeline
3:38 as an artist I can confirm that it’s not okay to trace any images, that are not your own and posting them publicly as if they were. Especially as a company with such a huge audience you should know better…
Yeah, and I’m pretty sure you could even sue if they used your art for commercial purposes, right??? Not a lawyer, or a professional artist, but it just seems like something you’d be allowed to sue for…
Though this isn't really tracing, it's editing renders, that are (to their knowledge at least) was owned by scott the team made an error and accidentally grabbed a fan render
I don’t like how the Mimic copied the Form of Springtrap/William Afton to pretend as if he survived the Fire at the end of Pizzeria Simulator when in reality the real Springtrap/William afton is dead.
@@uncorpscelestethank god the Mimic was a fake copy of William Afton, because God for big that William Afton comes back over & over again much like Sigma from Mega Man X.
3:41 As an artist - Do I condone tracing? Yes but actually no. On your own, tracing can be proven to be a learning tool. Like if you're having trouble with a pose, expression, anatomy and etc... I traced a bit as a learning/younger artist myself and was able to get a better understanding of anatomy through it thankfully. HOWEVER, a line needs to be crossed if you straight up copy a person's art 1:1. If you say it's your original work and post it on social media, you're likely to get backlash and that's probably earned. Like I don't see Steelwool crediting the original artist/modelers here. So hence why I think this was only meant to be a concept image. Or at least practice for the artists working on help wanted. To nail down proportions or get a feel of the characters. Something along those lines- and then when Scott asked: "Hey do we have any promo material?" Steelwool sloppily finished and handed it over. OR option B they didn't think anyone would look that deeply into it.... But whose to say I'm just an Artist and former FNAF fanboy .p.
this isn't tracing, it's editing renders, which is different to tracing as it uses the photo itself as the art instead of it being a base to create a new piece , and steelwool most likely assumed the spring Bonnie render was one of Scott's render and didn't know it was a fan render until it was pointed out to them
@quintonheimann I was mostly responding to the "is tracing ok for artists to do." point. Think it's still incredible unprofessional to use someone else's work (and a fans' at that!) Without credit or knowledge of it being used for that purpose.
Cannot completely confirm but I understand why artists would trace to learn. as I have never traced art, like ever. I only do stuff without references or anything and it’s still fun, but I can’t get even close to drawing people. Tracing stuff and then bragging or even selling stuff is outrageous tho.
The reason the save system is like that is because it's what Alien Isolation does. It would build stress and terror because knowing the animatronics are right behind you as the save slowly goes through should be scary but the animatronics aren't the Xenomorph
Bro... the amount nitpicking you did is ridiculous. Yes, Steel Wool deserves legit critiques. But bro. Youre mad cause Nightmare Bonnie is a darker purple? Cause Lolbit had a couple eyebrows? White Eyebrows on its white face? Come on bro. Lol stick to their legitimate failings. They have plenty enough to not have to poison the water with these non issues.
You say that but you're quite literally nitpicking his entire video just for that, he brings genuine points and even points TOWARDS steel wool doing stuff good
Did you watch the video? ^^' he said in the video that yes this is nitpick and he knows that but FNAF is a franchise where every single pixel is overanalized to understand the lore. So something like adding brows to a character that didnt had any before or changing the color of a model (ESPECIALLY when colors have such a HUGE importance in this franchise) can add a lot of confusion and also makes the game way less polished.
@@aiadeva Yeah, but the part where he (for some reason) thought plushtrap's model is different in the hard mode is stupid. He said that it looks like a nightmare version of plushtrap (a character who's already been a nightmare animatronic since his first appearance), that one is not a fault on steel wool, that's just him assuming something for no reason.
@@dylanhudec979I agree. RUIN has my least favorite moment in the series from a story perspective. When we find Roxy under the forklift she completely loses all of her personality and for some reason starts to talk about Cassie’s birthday as if everything is fine.
And let's not forget the idiocty in the New Lore regarding Afton = Does he "always come back" or not??? Afton says "I Always Come Back" literally the first time that he has ever "come back" and then if you don't count Glitch/Burn to be Afton that means he "came back" once, THEN said "I always come back," then disappeared forever! If that line was meant to be a throwaway, Scott needs to SAY SO
I completely disagree with the last part. Feels like you are blaming SW for a lot of things that they couldn't account for and misrepresent a lot of stuff. Like, how are they supposed to know what Scott wants them to do with the story, when Scott DIDN'T tell them what the story is supposed to be? Ofcourse they had to do the course correction together with Scott, when he realized that he messed up. They also had to deal a lot with COVID and Sony's deadlines, which is A LOT of pressure, ESPECIALLY when you yourself just have said that some of them are not even game developers. And why are you putting off sourcing as a negative? Many companies do that, there is nothing special about it. Overall, a good video that went downhill at the end. Looks like a lot of negative bias. I'm glad that i have a lot more confidence in Steel Wool. They clearly love the franchise and clearly are good artists. If they learned at least something from SB (which they most likely did, Ruin and HW2 are a proof of that), then SOTM and whatever comes next looks quite promising. Hope they will give DJ Sterff to Q&A their games more, he is one of the main reasons why Ruin had almost no bugs on release.
Good for them for listening to criticism and gives people hood games like help wanted and ruins. but you don't have a right to be offended on their behalf
These are common excuses from the fandom and I implore you not to engage with lies. The lore is only one aspect with the dozen of other post-launch issues, and Scott's incompetence with the lore doesn't excuse Steel Wool's handling of general storytelling that wasn't in Scott's control, though I'll go into excessive detail in a future case study. The issues occurred in preproduction before covid, and a further deadline can't fix a fundamentally broken game (not talking about the bugs). If you want to know the truth behind Steel Wool and Security Breach, I lay out overwhelming evidence in dedicated case studies.
@@DesignFrameCaseStudies I know about your video and i can't handle watching it because you do not hide your disdain toward SW there. And since you have the right to do it, i have the right to not engage with your content and search for this topic from someone with less aggressive approach.
@@NocturnalLaVenge Ah, yeah, the fanbase tends to hide behind the lies of attaching disdain to the topics alongside the obvious production lies that you mentioned, so I understand.
Good video other than the last section. Completely dropped the ball there. It's just a whole section of seemingly purposefully taking stuff out of context in order to make Steel Wool look bad. I'm not saying that Steel Wool isn't at fault for the buggy state of security breach, but you're purposefully manipulating the framing of the words of the devs in order to convince us of your point. The worst part of the modern state of the franchise-the lore-is ultimately the fault of Scotts' terrible management. Also, outsourcing is extremely common in game development, especially considering Steel Wool's small size. Ultimately, your conclusion of Steel Wool being the main issue with the franchise nowadays is completely unfounded. Steel Wool isn't the reason the lore is busted, which is ultimately the reason we aren't happy with the current state of FNAF. Steel Wool could've made a great game with connected lore had Scott gave them more information and time.
The lore was handled terribly by Scott, but that doesn't excuse Steel Wool's handling of general storytelling. And the lore is only one aspect alongside the dozen other post-launch issues. The quotes are not taken out of context. If you want to know the truth behind Steel Wool, I lay out overwhelming evidence in a dedicated Steel Wool case study.
@MutantMasterRace all of their games had horribly story telling and honest they were all somewhat lackluster. If i had to pick the best game it would be HW2 simply because from a gameplay perspective it was actually fun, non repetitive, and somewhat unique. However, i don’t think the quality of any of the 3 fnaf games they made are very high, and defending them like you are only makes them complacent to keep generating shit games and pass it off as “good enough” because they know people will defend them.
Yea i stopped watching the video with that. FNAF HW and HW2 are like 2 of the best games in the entire frahcnhise what does he even mean by 'they are bad and terrible games' This whole video comes off as him praising the orginal and hating the steel wool era for no real reason
1:14:35 I am pretty sure the answer to this question is him being in safe mode after his system crashed in the opening cutscene. 1:17:05 While Roxy is alive after her "death"; (Honestly, I think that's also implied to just be a reboot but I may be wrong in that) that final line could be of Mr mimic since he can be heard mimicking Roxy during the fight between them.
yeah Freddy literally reboots in the opening and Cassie does the same thing to Roxy that she did to Eclipse so it makes sense she didn't die. She rebooted them which flushed the virus out of them just like freddy
“Safe mode” on computers is typically a mode that boots with only the basic software needed for it to run, no extra applications or software. Freddy starting in safe mode would run only his default programming, not whatever additional software was added to the others to make them aggressive. Hes friendly because his basic software is designed to interact with and entertain children, not hunt down and kill them
If Scott already had a secret story that all the little puzzle pieces Steel Wool was given fit into and thus he didn’t want them creating their own story for those pieces then why the hell didn’t he at least tell them that?? Like it’s weird enough to just not tell them the lore at all but you’re also not going to tell them that there’s already existing lore for the game they’re making???? That’s so super weird
My biggest issue with ruin has always been how there is zero threats. All the enemies just stay still doing nothing most of the time or can be outrun by walking
I simply find it hard the game went from being a security guard at a pizzeria with moving robots to a gigantic pizza mall with a virus and a whole restaurant underneath it, and whatever the mimic is. My brain literally can't comprehend that they are the same franchise
I 100% am onboard with the idea that Steel Wool scope crept themselves into trouble with Security Breach. An interesting approach could have been to tweak the game setting slightly; make the megaplex be under construction. Some areas could be fully built while some would be rough. This could be a way to build out a slice of gameplay and do it well, then expand with DLC .
The last section on "Steel Wool's Legacy" genuinely blows. The amount of misinterpretation you do in the interviews is really baffling, and I am not even gonna start about the outsourcing part, since I do not even know what you were trying to do there cause "outsourcing" especially ports and animation, is mostly normal in game development, especially considerating Steel Wool IS a fucking indie studio without a Nintendo ass budget to work with and limited time. The most ironic thing was you calling them "arrogant" when you through that ENTIRE SECTION sound pretentious as fuck, actually embarrasing, OH, and "I make my criticism out of love" isn't a excuse lmao. As someone who genuinely thinks your videos present a lot of fair and interesting observations on game criticism, I am super fucking disappointed, which sucks cause the rest of video is genuinely pretty good :/
Yeah, like, the bit about JTop saying:"Oh, I wouldn't really change It cause that might be a person's favorite part". That doesn't mean that Steelwool thinks sb was flawless, all It means is basically:"That's the game that came out, It could have been better but now that it's out, that's what It is. We are proud of what we made and would rather move forward than change the past". Geniualy mind boggeling how he could have missinterpreted It so badly. Edit: And before anyone says:"Oh, but you can't know what they meant; you don't know these people". I am not saying that there's no critisims you can give to Steelwool; but I geniualy don't think anyone can extrapolate what he got, unless actively being malicious.
@Chaotic_Overlord Yeah, besides that, the fact this video also ignores that a LOT of the problems these games suffer can go to Scott since like, the dude still owns the franchice and is the producer, which franfly from the way the Fanverse was handled between other dramas, the man is a TERRIBLE producer. Still respect his work obviously, but it's clear he isn't the best in a executive producer role, probably would help to have someone else to help him. Steel Wool definitely deserves some blame over how Security Breach was handled, but Scott is also a big factor on why that game came out as it did tbh.
@FiremanSamBoy2008 True, I just think some of the observations he makes about the games ARE fair, but yeah, those faults don't mean they ruined the franchise, if anything the PRODUCER ruined it's own franchise by being a bad producer (Scott).
Yes they can be considered an indie studio. That doesn’t excuse them demanding so much money and fucking up so badly. Scott told them to do some things. But only they decided to make SB as bloated as they did. Even forgetting Vanessa/Vanny. She did next to nothing in SB for all her build up. They overshot. They can take the criticism.
@@ichigokage There's criticism, and than there's being a dick, which is what Dane did here. Sure, they can take criticism, but a lot of that criticism could go equally to Scott, you know, the PRODUCER of the franchise that fucked up by not really communicating what the story would be, and looking at the final product they gave him and say "yeah, this is good! release it". They made the game yeah, but Scott should have payed more attention to the production of the game tbh
Don't be soft on them either. Yes I agree they shouldn't be a fault for the issues with the story because that was Scotts Job but they are responsible for everything else. They made a buggy and a objectively bad game that was still not fixed after many patches with them saying they were content with the game. I think it is crucial we criticize steel wool so they will clearly know what to improve. I really recommend you watch design frames recent video on Steel Wool, it goes into more detail than I can write here.
@@HallowzDev While that still does not excuse them fully, I think that it is important to remember that being told the story bit by bit and having to constantly change/add/remove story stuff can also impact the development of the gameplay and systems severely.

Best way to describe post UCN Fnaf, imo, is that it wants to be a forest without the trees. It wants to be a mystery, but there's nothing mysterious to put together, because all of the information is either front and center, or it's never shown at all until the story demands it so. Edit: Additionally, Post UCN feels like it's trying _so_ hard to justify it's shitty story and character writing. It calls back to itself like "see, guys? Isn't this character/situation/whatever super cool?" while also failing to justify itself _because_ of that.
At least the vr games are great. Cant complain when only really one game of theirs is bad. They are very talented people and sorta helped fnaf get as far as it has in recent years

I know nothing about fnaf, but I’m pretty sure this video is solely putting steel wool down to put mega cat up and campaign for them to be in charge of every single fnaf game onwards. And I mean, from what I’ve seen the vast majority of people enjoyed security breach and some of the most popular characters from the series (glamrock freddy, sun and moon) are from SB. I mean, UA-camrs are really good at exaggerating how bad something is anyway And also, why do so many UA-camrs put steam reviews with changed text in their thumbnails? Probably a weird tactic to gain traction
danerade has always been very skeptical about steel wool and a hater of security breach since the beginning. i dont think he's the best source for an unbiased analysis of steel wool's actions, as he's been negative towards them since day one it seems. while certainly an entertaining video, not the most accurate by a longshot. again, *scott openly admitted to barely communicating to SW.* if the man with all the answers in his mind didn't give the answers to the developers, how are they supposed to write the right directions? while it is true steel wool made these inaccurate games, the lack of communication from scott is the most prominent problem, NOT steel wool themselves.
@StingRai08 you guys are making me kinda nervous, like you’re acting like steel wool is problematic in some way and they’re morally corrupt. did the ceo get exposed for something or are you guys just upset with how they handled security breach
@@MochaSlushes I mean they did take a beloved game and made it a buggy mess with a confusing story (can it even be called a story?) because they're incompetend, set out to do more than they were capable of and STILL double down trying to pretend like the game was a success despite the majority of the fandom either hating it or being painfully neutral towards it
@@demonfromunderyourbed4580 that’s not what im concerned about. I’m concerned about if anyone was exposed for grooming or having an abusive relationship or something. Not whatever expectations they didn’t live up to.
I stand by the fact that the jeremy story is one of the best moments in all of fnaf. An actually really unnerving story told in a very concise package. Jeremy has been built up in the previous tapes along with his eventual fate and that moment is just an awesome payoff. Tape girls ideas about ink and the Halloween mask also just add some classic fnaf confusion into the mix while also being a really creepy way of describing the situation. Also to comment on the idea that jeremy couldn’t have cut his face off, that is 100% what happened and it is definitely possible. You can cut or rip your face off and survive as long as you only go for the outer skin and appendages like the nose and lips. Tape girls mention of tape girl not being able to see his face along with the ink and mask make what happened pretty clear. Glitchtrap tried to control jeremy, jeremy cuts his own face off to prevent this, he briefly survives and tries to do something in the VR game before he dies, and then he dies probably from bloodloss. He could have also potentially survived due to some HW2 info but I digress.
FNAF SB is probably the biggest example of overambition. It is a charming game, but a game that's far too bloated to really capitalize on what it offers.
I just think it's funny that both Security Breach and RUIN copied Terminator in different ways. SB: Chica gets crushed in a trash compactor, and tries to reach out and grab the player. RUIN: Everything about the Mimic is a direct copy of the T-800. They are both robotic endoskeletons with red glowing eyes, and human-like teeth, which mimic voices to lure in their target to kill. They also both reach through bars and try to grab the protagonist at the very end, in very similar fashions.
Scott's a HUGE terminator fan, and wrote a T2 joke script for the movie. So...it's very likely T2 was a huge source of inspiration for Glam Freddy and Roxys dynamic
@at_witts_end3470 Which makes a lot of sense for Freddy. Though, I will mention that I wish they would've gone more in the direction of the first movie, since it's more horror-centric.
The fact people still think Glitchtrap is William or mimic is a retcon makes me happy. Because it shows that despite yall apparently "hate the mimic", youre still falling for his act. Hes been tricking you and you fell for it every single time.
Well, when you have a character that it's only explained on books... That's exactly the point, tricking sounds more like make confusing something simple
@@nokrot Ugh. Do I need to quote Handunit again: "RECREATING PERFORMANCES AND PERSONALITIES IN AN INSTANT." RECREATING AS IN REPLICATING. AS IN MIMICKING. HAVE YOU NEVER HEARD OF A PLOT TWIST IN YOUR LIFE BEFORE?!?!
@@friendhuman he said there was one retcon and it was seamless, lol. Mimic was never a retcon. He was a plot twist. Matpat literally predicted the mimic in his first help wanted theory. The pieces were all in place the whole time. ORGN proves this. Its a teaser and scrapped Easter egg (after it was connected back to Showbiz) showing a beaten up looking Endo head. That's the Origin of Glitchtrap. The old head of The Mimic.
I once described FNAF lore as the "Western Kingdom Hearts" at this point because you need a whole damn bible to explain everything then and now to someone who doesn't understand it. Them retconning things over and over again just makes it all spiral and make it even MORE confusing. My brain hurts when I have to piece it all together sometimes.
"I am willing to say Steel Wool may not be the right fit for this series" You can think what you want, but that doesn't matter. This is not your vision; this is Scott's vision, and we can clearly see how that vision paid off in FNAF HW, HW COD, HW 2, and even Ruin. The only game where they messed up is in SB. They were a VR game developer with a huge vision compared to their abilities, and Scott didn't tell them the story for such a large game. That's why SB is kind of bad. But Scott learned his lesson about not sharing the story, and Steel Wool learned how to manage a project. They also learned how to have a better vision for the scope of a game and how to handle a non-VR game. We see how this paid off in Ruin. Even if people don't see Ruin as a great game, it's a lot better compared to SB and it is an acceptable game. They've said they won't fix SB anymore, and I don't understand why people are angry about Steel Wool Studio abandoning it. This is the best decision they made so they can focus on other projects. We see how this decision paid off in Ruin and HW2. Imagine how long it would take to make SB perfect-such a waste of time! If you say it's the wrong mindset to set deadlines for your games, you're clearly unfamiliar with game development. Ask any game developer, and they'll tell you there has to be a point where the game is released. Otherwise, they’ll never release it because they won't be satisfied with the final product. All the issues with Steel Wool only affected SB. They've learned their lesson in Ruin and moved forward with other games. So I don't understand why you think Steel Wool Studio doesn't fit FNAF. They've made only one bad game and four good ones (HW, HW COD, Ruin, HW2). As for the story, they did their best to fix it, and I think it's good now. The old era focused on the Afton family and the ghosts. The new era is about the consequences of the Afton family's actions, the Mimic, the greed of Fazbear Entertainment, and the agony of the past.
There have been some highest of highs and lowest of lows with the Steel Wool run of FNAF but I really am confident in that they have been gradually learning from their missteps and that they really do have the potential to take this franchise places.
FNaF fans when Scott literally has shown time and time again he has trouble communicating with other people (as seen by cut ITP mini games about Vanny being Williams daughter.): "steel wool ruined fuhnaff" It was Scott's fault SB happened the way it did. Not steel wool. Scott didn't tell them shit. Also, mimic sweep. He factually has more characterization, more voice lines, and more of a backstory than William Afton at this point.
What was William Aftons biggest feat? I have to ask. I love Afton but like...did he have any feats? He was just a dude with a knife mostly. Not to sound like a power scaler or anything, but that's the best way I can say this. The way the mimic was introduced was lame and annoying, yes. The Mimic himself is such a cool character though, it makes up for it in spades.@@dylanhudec979
Actually the likely route the Mimic is going is that it is mimicking Roxy after the elevator fall, using her casing as a costume and mimicking her voice to trick Cassie into leading it out of the sinkhole
We'll likely see this in EftPP as the other books seem to push the loop idea, so Cassie's bonus route being her removing the Vanny mask would make sense.
@mrp_izza they're doing a series of interactive novels (Choose Your Own Adventure Books). There's The Week Before (about Phone Guy), Return to the Pit, and Escape from the Pizzaplex (about Cassie)
@@at_witts_end3470 You forgot V.I.P. I would like to make a slight correction though, Monty is in perfect condition in Escape from the Pizzaplex so it is most likely Cassie backstory and not part of a loop
Not gonna lie, this video just sounds petty and just a cheap shot at saying "I just don't like Steel Wool! And I'm proud of it." Most things you mention are not constructive, they are Unfair, Nick-picks, and also seem very petty. Also how are you still Blaming Steel Wool for how SB came out Scott has already stated it was HIS FAULT!? Hold up for second, let me also add Covid had also beaten up the development when making SB just like MANY OTHER GAMES!!! On top of that the last section, is HORRIBLE you also had to pull the "most criticisms are out of love" is COMPLETELY A LIE (for this video) Most of these 'Criticisms' are just stupid Nick-picks and many sources taken out of context.
I'd recommend Design Frames video on steel wool as a better source of constructive and valid criticism. He really gets into the real problems at steel wool and does good research.
I highly doubt it was Scott’s idea to remove the save system after 6 AM. Steel Wool might not be entirely to blame but they are definitely not a competent game studio.
while the video is indeed very negative, I'm one of the people, who kept giving chances to SW myself, just to get disappointed again and again. they are good with VR, ok! but they made 3 UE4 free roam games I myself played with, and they are all garbage. I never finished SB, because I died during the credits, and I just got tired of it entirely.
man i can't believe Steel Wool didn't listen to Scott when he told them the story, which he clearly did, god i hope Scott fires them and make Mega Cat the lead devs for future fnaf games i'm totally NOT being sarcastic
I sure hope mega cat studios doesn't think Vanny is William Aftons daughter who gave candy to the Glamrocks to make them sentient? What the fuck WERE those Vanny mini games supposed to be saying? Aside from non-canon nonsense.
@@at_witts_end3470 don't worry, Mega Cat are the Good Guys, they'll do the right choice actually now i think about it, why was Vanny planned in ITP? she wasn't in the original short-story. did they make those minigames just to cut them? or maybe it's remnants (no pun intended) of what the original SB story was in minigame form for some reason? or maybe it's meant to be Mega Cat showing the middle finger to Steel Wool?
@@raikojanes5972 definitely don't think it's like that. I think they saw people wanted more Vanny and so they tried to add her to the game and then Scott had to pull them aside and was like "no. Guys. Stop. Just adapt the Stitchline stories and tease fetch. Please. I already have enough shit on my hands with Steel Wool messing up SB."
@@I_Dont_Believe_In_Salad okay, but they didn't really have a story to work with in the first place? I'm sure that if Scott just told them the story, it would've been a great game.

Scott Cawthon: is the sole writer of security breach, literally did not tell steel wool what the story actually was, basically asked them to fill in the blanks that he already had, creating entire characters that weren't even supposed to exist 90% of fnaf fans for some reason: i CAN'T believe STEEL WOOL would RUIN the story of FNaF, they brooke it , it was perfect b4 and they RUINed it
Makes me wonder how things would have turned out if the community didn't bully Scott into 'stepping down' over who he chose to donate to. Probably still cryptic as hell, but maybe less glaringly so...
Had to comment to say fantastic video and thanks for making it. Steel Wool and Scott are not getting anywhere near the level of critical feedback I feel they’ve earned. Gonna have to hard disagree that the Mimic is an “intriguing antagonist” lol.
for the beginning about tracing models i think it is very important to point out that artist often use 3d models as direct reference and it isnt as easy as dropping it into blender and tracing it. you normally need to do a specific pose, joints, etc etc to get the image you want. it all comes down to preference i suppose, some see it as lazy but personally i understand especially for much more complicated designs with different moving parts.
It makes me happy that many people in the comments seem to understand more of the production of Fnaf SB and how it wasn't completely SWs fault. Game being made in the pandemics while Scott was "retired" and didn't wanna tell Steel Wool the story for SB.
37:49 when i played security breach for the first time, it was a snore until the endo section. The endo section scared me so much, i ended up discovering a bug that i could use to simply slowly delete every single endo one by one. The endos in the version i played werent able to follow you out of their little hallway section, since there was a save point there, and you could easily get softlocked if they could follow you back out, so what i did was lure one of the endos to the entrance door next to the save, then repeatedly open and shut the door on them until they got deleted. I did exactly what william did in the fnaf 3 minigames, luring them one by one to a room they couldnt access, and killing them there. Once i killed all 20-ish endos, i was able to walk through what wouldve otherwise been the scariest section of the game. In my run i also ended up skipping things by accident (i was playing blind), so i never even got to 6AM, it judt skipped from like 5 to 6:15 at some point. I think what happened was i accidentally used Freddy's All Access security level to get into a section i wasnt supposed to yet (i think it was the arcade), and in doing so skipped forward in time. To this day i still havent seen the "Leave or Stay" 6AM prompt by the front door, despite having beaten the game twice. I also never got to play fazerblast, since i never learned how to get inside and never got any prompts telling me to go there, so i just got the camera and went through the game with that. In my version there was another bug i figured out by accident, where if you use the camera, pause the game for like 10 to 15 seconds, and unpause, your camera would be fully recharged again, and since it stunned everything on screen, i was basically immortal. Because of the timeskip i also didnt end up breaking one of the 3 main animatronics, resulting in confusion during the afton fight, but i cant remember which animatronic i spared since it was like 10000 years ago or something. 9/10 game, the one point is removed because of mazercize
@I_Dont_Believe_In_Salad I did it was awful. It had the exact same problems but worse. Acting like SW is the devil by using out of context quotes and playing JonTron clips to mock them isnt insightful criticism. And the focus of his video is all over the place. Its 1/3 criticism, 1/3 mocking and 1/3 shilling his consulting business. The business part is funny because i dont think anyone would seriously consider hiring him with the douchebag way he carried himself in that video. Plus his thumbnail is actually awful, idk if he changed it or not but he had 3 different fonts and visual clutter everywhere. Not exactly what i would call "good design" which is ironic considering his channel.
I would like to start with saying I'm dyslexic. I'm sorryfor any spelling mistakes and please feel free to correct them in replies. This comment will be edited overtime going point by point through each section of the video. Start is misinformed and disingenuous. I'm still looking over the video, but the reason that happened is because Scott had not properly provided them with reference models by showing them his own models for them to base it off of. And the Poster and Cupcake you saw were placeholders before the full release of the game. Developers tend to do that, especially if they're making a game inspired on a pre-existing franchise, using pre-existing models to layout the way things should be and slowly replacing those models with their own. It is NOT a sloppy approach to designing games. Many games - Fangames, and ESPECIALLY Triple A game franchises picked up by another company, do this. Using placeholder/reference models to be able to layout the way you want the game to look and the models you'll have to make. Also, the 'Bug' you showed of Foxy's head is a counter-measure of the player not losing an key item to progressing the gamemode. If you toss it too far for you to be able to reach, it respawns, it was just convenient that it respawned and collided with Foxy's head, activating progress. You also have to understand that Steel Wool was by no means a professional game company, they, themselves, were fans of FNAF, and Scott took accountability and admitted that the mistakes made in Security Breach were all his own fault for miscommunication due to always going at it solo for the last 10 years of the franchise. The story was also not the most important part of FNAF. The theories were. Not only was the gameplay awful, but FNAF effectively had an extremely shifting story; because in truth, it had no story to tell. The story of FNAF fluctuated as more Fans made theories, as Scott realized he liked specific ideas for his story, he decided upon them. Some ideas were his own, others were born directly from other people's speculations. Scott is not a writer, and thus FNAF did not have a very concrete story, if you look back to the first game even - there are millions of things in those hidden newspapers that were either never mentioned again or fully retconned, due to the fact FNAF was never meant to have a concrete universe/timeline story as a whole. Nothing in FNAF can be taken in confidence - at least in the original FNAF, because scott constantly altered and retconned things for things he prefered, which is fine, it's his game and his story, but sadly while steel wool is currently trying to fix the way of storytelling of FNAF (and doing an okay job at it though they could be doing better) every game from FNAF 1-6 has an insane amount of retcons or general inconsistencies, so no, people play FNAF games for theories and for the idea of building their story off of what they have, nobody actually thin ks fnaf has a concrete truthful story to tell atleast not the original few games but it's fun and interactive to try and build your own perception of what the story is with what is given to you, but fnaf by itself doesn't have a story, it has events and plot beats but it does not have an over-arching properly thought out or well handled plot. You're also mistaken; it is never implied, infact, it is implied against the fact; that we (the real life people) have played the in-game canonical 'scott-stand in's' versions of FNAF, in fact, in Security Breach various Arcade designs depict a clearer picture that was painted by those games, the games we played are not recreations of real events, but those events themselves, if you actually believe that they would allow that indie developer to create FNAF 6, the game that incrimin ated them most and that also had a bunch of controversial information about them and their actions alongside afton's own creations under the fazbear brand, and so much fuckin g more, and also leave Henry's speech there alongside them saying Freddy's as a brand is shutting down, then I don't know what to tell you.
Yes, Scott made the mistake of not telling the plot to Steel Wool, but why didn't the guys working on SB pressed Scott to tell them more You're telling me Scott was cryptic and the folks at Steel Wool went like "Ight, fair enough" We can't blame one or the other, we need to blame both, Scott for being unclear and Steel Wool for just accepting things as they were
Scott's entire thing is that he's cryptic, literally everyone just goes with it because it hasn't failed until Security Breach where the poor communication just didn't work. Steel Wool not only understood that he was worried about leaks if he told everything, but also weren't communicating that much since Scott "retired" at the time. It takes a lot of reaching to blame Steel Wool whatsoever.
Everyone going to skip the stolen assets, bad use of dev time, bloat, all to d*ckride, coddle, and cope for grown adults and “experienced“ devs all because story was mentioned. People actively look to baby this studio and I’m not here for it.
@wolfietronic356J Top is an incompetent developer for his delusions of grandeur, he tries to be enigmatic and cool but idea of such is BIG, SHINY, it’s not interesting if you’ve been following the franchise, it’s jarring. I like Ruin more and even then why was that? Limited scope, Focused effort.
@wolfietronic356 AH YES a HOLE SFM MODEL being ported to their engine was just a mistake SUUUREEEE, its about fnaf 1 foxy in fnaf 2 minigame menu when they used old sfm fan model. Its one thing reusing wrong render, other just straight up stealing model from other sides and putting in your game
@@kubaxterg9994They used i6NiS. The OG model as a placeholder image. Omg. Worst thing ever. Also, their engine is unreal engine so it probably would have been VERY easy to do.
Security Breach was supposed to be the biggest milestone ever that also started the new era of the franchise, and they fumbled it. I'm just glad that they redeemed themselves with Help Wanted 2 and Into the Pit.
45:04 I honestly couldn't believe that they had a magnitude of arcade machines in this game. And NONE of them were playable. Like, what?! Arcade games have been a staple of the franchise since the second game. It's the top thing people look for in every sequel. So how could they have so many arcade machines, but NO arcade games to play?
I think Scott's decision to not tell SteelWool what Security Breach's story is supposed to be was really stupid. I mean, after all that they should've said that this game isn't canon, and fix everything in next games, but no. We still have the game with large amount of lore stuff, but we don't know what SteelWool got right and what wrong
It's still canon. SB, while being inaccurate to the vision, is still canon. The Tales exist to make sure of that. Ruin specifically was made to set things right. Like the Bonnie stuff is a Steel Wool original. He's only really mentioned in VIP, which leads into him being sidelined to Bonnie Bowl by the Storyteller. So we can assume all of Bonnie's lore is in the games.
"how does cassie's dad giving roxy a mask affect her appearance in ruin?" help wanted 2 takes place before ruin. simple. a huge part of fnaf lore is that its NOT in order of how the games were released. cassie's dad giving roxy the mask is steel wool TELLING YOU DIRECTLY WHEN THE GAME IS.
Same with you giving Cassie the Vanny mask, and Glitchtrap being burned onto the wall outside of PQ3 in Ruin. It's meant to say "Glitchtrap died before Ruin and Ruin is AFTER HW2"
I'm barely getting halfway through this video and I'm so annoyed 😭 The fact you wonder how an indie dev, who was hired by FAZBEAR ENTERTAINMENT the damn guys whod know any and eveyrthing in their companys history (they literally remade the animatronics for the funtime delivery service come on dude think!), knew of characters ennard just to go and complain about confusion lore is very frustrating to me There's also the filler in this near 2 hour long video, don't get me wrong your analysis of HW Curse of Dreadbead and SB are fantastic, but I'm here to see steel wools impact on fnaf I don't care about your feels about the plushbabies, I want to hear about minor details about textures, glitches, ACTUAL problems with the lore (not your misunderstanding or personal gripes) NOT how good the Danger Keep Out game was
Yeah this video is far less factual and a LOT more emotional. It would be fine if he titled/ framed it as the reasons HE doesn't enjoy the games made by SteelWool, but he frames it like it's all legitimate reasons why the games are some kind of "downfall" or "ruining the franchise". A lot of the story elements being weird and fucky are literally Scott's fault, since he's never thought about the future of the story for a SECOND while making each individual game, and is far too precious about his storytelling to actually tell SteelWool enough to figure out what the hell is going on, so they can actually implement it into the games properly. This video with a title like that should've talked about the more technical side of the rushed and unfinished products, instead of all of the personal gripes he has with the story of the entire series.
THIS IS NOT A HATE COMMENT but please read I deleated my old comment since it got a lot of backflash after I said that I don't like Security Breach and prefered the og games.Though I do think I've should've explained why I personlly felt that these games fell flat (If you like Steel Wool FNAF go ahead all I wanted to do was give my two cents about one of my favorite franchises) 1: All I did was simply say " I wounder what this game would be like if it wasn't rushed" since there is A LOT about this game that I did like like The graphics Gregory and Glamrock Freddy ESPECIALLY An official free-rom FNAF game I love the concept of a kid and his friend snooping around a closed location overnight I KNOW Scott didn't give them the full scope and it's not really a reboot but the game looked like it was gonna be a new era of FNAF kinda like a soft reboot like how in Sonic Fronteirs the characters felt like how they were rather than being characatures like in Sonic Forces)after the og story ended in FNAF 6 and I think that if given another year it could be the best one because I REALLY WANTED TO LIKE THIS GAME AND I SEE POTENTIAL 2: I just don't like the new villains Vanny BARLEY exist Mimic sucks The glitch dude isn't even a threat just take the mask off 3: I just think Ruin is mid simple as that 4: I don't care for the books because they don't interest me hel I didn't even like the original novel trilogy All I said was I wanted a reboot to give this franchise a nice make over because even back then the lore was hard to follow and we've already delt with The Afton Family in FNAF 6 so I though we needed a new villain with a new story but this one simply just didn't do it for me Sorry if you like these games and that I'm not a big fan of this era but i'll stick to the first seven and Help Wanted one and two being the best
Weighing in about the tracing thing as an artist: Tracing is fine. It can be a way to learn how another artist does something you like (how they handle line weight, as an example.) Posting it is another thing. If you do, you want permission, and to explicitly lay out what happened ("I traced (x)'s lineart and then colored it all in my coloring style," as an example.) When it comes to 3D modeling, "tracing" is super common. You usually will "trace" 2D art of the character at various angles in this scenario. NOT other people's models. I don't do 3D things nearly as often as 2D, but I assume in *non-commercial circumstances,* the same applies. If you were to post it, you would want permission, and to specify which parts are derivative, and which parts aren't. In commercial products: you don't trace. That's a scummy no-no.
With all due respect, and I dont usually do this, but I would just like to analyse some of ur points about Steel Wool, now, I know usually, u do very well-researched videos, seeing ur PVZ video long ago, and how well-researched it was, I would like to say that I dont think Steel Wool is as bad as u make them out to be, they aren't perfect, but they are no triple A studio levels of dickbags, and im not sugar coating it, lets be real, as much as I liked Security Breach, its a bad game, period. But I wouldn't say they're souless and terrible at their job, u can tell that they have a passion for this series, which is very hard to find nowdays in studios, I think we shouldn't paint Steel Wool as they're villains, and start to criticise them from an actual constructive view point. I think the biggest fuck-up Steel Wool did, was in the release of Security Breach, the game came out way more expensive here in Brazil for one day, but it felt more like an accident than a scam. I think Steel Wool isin't a bad studio, they are just...new...which isin't necessarilly bad, you also seemed to have miss-interpreted some of the interviews. I really am not coming out as someone who hates this video, I just want to tell u what I think is wrong. And for the people saying: Blaah blaaah blaaaaah, we cant be nice to them either cuz they need to learn!!11!!!!11 I agree, a 100%, but theres a clear difference between saying things that are accusatory at best and actual criticism. FNaF comunity has been in a pretty divisive spot, and I honestly feel like we all just need to start being more critical about Steel Wool rather than explosive.
Everything goes wrong in discussions when Steel Wool is placed into lore discussions and not about game design, stability, etc. When clearly it was Scott who screwed up the lore which apparently did the same thing with Mega Cat Studios on Into the Pit. Parece que tu é BR conhece o Toy Core?
1:34:18 from what ive come to understand, cassies dad is some kind of fazbear ent. superfan who ended up working for them. Its unknown how old he is, but given that the bonnie mask is given significance to his character, most likely he is the bonnie mask kid from fnaf 4's bite scene. If that is the case, and he was the same age as Michael, then that makes him the perfect age to have lived through every minigame seen in HW 2. Given that HW 2 says we are a Faz Technician, and Cassies dad is also one in ruin, then it can be reasonably assumed that all of the technician adjacent jobs we see in HW 2 were actually lived through by Cassies Dad, which specifically includes the funtime freddy and yendo minigame, meaning cassies dad likely worked at Circus Baby's Entertainment and Rentals, hence its prominence in HW 2. You cant exactly be friends with Michael, be present at the bite of 83, experience and work at fall fest, work at CB's Ent and Rent, then later at the pizza plex, without figuring out pretty much ALL of what there is to know about everything that happened, so likely he was possessed by glitchtrap while uncovering even more secrets, hence why he wasnt fired from the pizza plex while every other employee was, and probably exactly why he was able to have access to the pizza plex just before and possibly during the events of Ruin, he would have easy access as a glitchtrap follower. As for what is happening in the endings, i think its kind of simple despite its convoluted appearance. In the mask bot ending, cassies dad is killed and somehow put into mask bot, where he isnt in control of his actions, and in the vanny ending he is guided by vanny under the guise of glitchtrap (the purple spray paint is a staple of vanny) to collect the dolls, play princess quest 4 (where this time he is the princess in need of saving from glitchtrap instead of vannesa), unlock his memories (the children that died, his bonnie mask that he seems to struggle to remember well, and the sister location elevator he likely rode many times), then get freed by vanny, who crushes glitchtrap, symbolizing his freedom from glitchtrap. A very important key detail from ruin that it seems like you missed is that the V.A.N.N.I. mask is able to directly control exactly what you see, which is used in ruin to make obstacles that arent really there, hide entire rooms from view, and give cassie collectibles made from her memories, all to make her trust helpi (mimic1) more, and to increase her reliance on the mask as something she *needs* in order to survive. As we see in HW 2, the room we were in is a complete facade, and thus likely so is the presentation we see explaining that this is a "training program", when it is not very subtly hinted at simply being a compilation of memories, likely either the mimic1 'glitchtrap' trying to learn more about the past, or vanny trying to give us our memories back by making us live through them again. If you think that the illusion is simply too strong for it to be the mask/glitchtrap affecting what we percieve as the real world, then keep in mind that the AR emails showed Glitchtrap (in Vanessa's body,) looking up online manipulation techniques, torture methods, and "how to induce compliance in human subjects", so it doesnt seem far fetched to believe it was able to manipulate us in these ways when it is literally inside our brain and directly tells us it has control over what we see and hear. Anyway back on point, the only thing about HW 2 that *doesn't* have an extremely reasonable explanation currently is Moon's appearance in the vanny ending, and the prize ball machine we seem to be inside. The Moon thing will likely be explained in the fall fest game (possibly secret of the mimic), but the prize machine is harder to explain. My main guesses are: 1, its a reference to HW 1, where you retrieve the glitchtrap plush from the prize corner while wearing the V.A.N.N.I mask in order to talk to him as vannessa, except this time she crushes him instead of talking to him, or its just meant to be the latest of cassies dad's memories, HW 2 or HW 1, which the prize machine seems to be from one of the two, though its unclear which. Anyway thats the end of this comment now, bye.
It's definitely 100% scott's fault for security breach's story. Any of those issues in SB I can excuse steel wool for, however they were directly responsible for making the game "10x" their original idea, therefore stretching themselves thin. The bugs and the overall sucky gameplay are on steel wool in my opinion.
Im sorry, did you say you think HW2 says PQ wasnt canon, when you have to play Princess Quest 4. And the whole thing with PQ is you have to play them in order? ...did you even try,.man?
There one slight thing you got wrong that isn’t too important, but it should be known. The person that made the FNAF games only made FNAF 1, 2, 3 and 4. Meaning the bigger scale games (i.e. Sister Location and FNAF 6) were not actually games in the lore.
Dude, talking about how tracing fan art for a game teaser is bad and then showing fan art with no credit that you couldn't find the artist for is so hypocritical. If you don't know the artist or they deleted their account, don't show it, show any other example WITH credit.

@@dyspunktional
When did Scot say he had any oroblem with this specific game?

Heck call me too positive and trusting, but I actually feel confident about FNAF being in the hands of Steel Wool now that I know from countless accounts just how sweet and dedicated the staff really seems to be.
from what i've heard from people who've played the demo at pax west Steel Wool was specifically asking on how to make it scarier
those games pop off because they're not overscope like security breach
I don’t like how they showcased the demo though online a bit. It would be better to get online feedback

If they learned at least something from SB (which they most likely did, Ruin and HW2 are a proof of that), then SOTM and whatever comes next looks quite promising.
THIS
The lore was handled terribly by Scott, but that doesn't excuse Steel Wool's handling of general storytelling.
Both steel wool and scott should be held accountable for the state of series now.
Yea i stopped watching the video with that.
FNAF HW and HW2 are like 2 of the best games in the entire frahcnhise what does he even mean by 'they are bad and terrible games'
This whole video comes off as him praising the orginal and hating the steel wool era for no real reason
Scott thinks they are going to spoil the lore for MatPat's sake 💀💀 Never heard of NDA's 💀💀
An hour long FNAF video?
Oh, how you spoil us, Danerade.
It's actually closer to two hours my fine feathered friend 🤓🤓🤓
I see you everywhere.
And you have good taste I'll tell you that.
@Duffymuffy Heh... thanks bro 😼
I feel like people are to harsh on steel wool. like didnt scott just not give them the story he had in mind? Just made them make their own
They have alright to be, they play their part in this as well not just Scott

To be fair, I don’t think Nightmarionne being in HW is them incorporating non canon stuff (at least not now) since it feels like they’re kinda retconning Nightmarionne into Nightmare’s original spot, which I don’t really mind.
They are very talented people and sorta helped fnaf get as far as it has in recent years
I agree mostly but you're pushing it towards the end

I know nothing about fnaf, but I’m pretty sure this video is solely putting steel wool down to put mega cat up and campaign for them to be in charge of every single fnaf game onwards. And I mean, from what I’ve seen the vast majority of people enjoyed security breach and some of the most popular characters from the series (glamrock freddy, sun and moon) are from SB. And also, why do so many UA-camrs put steam reviews with changed text in their thumbnails? Probably a weird tactic to gain traction
omg this, like steel wool has messed up but it does feel like this creator just hates them
danerade has always been very skeptical about steel wool and a hater of security breach since the beginning. i dont think he's the best source for an unbiased analysis of steel wool's actions, as he's been negative towards them since day one it seems. while certainly an entertaining video, not the most accurate by a longshot. again, *scott openly admitted to barely communicating to SW.* if the man with all the answers in his mind didn't give the answers to the developers, how are they supposed to write the right directions? while it is true steel wool made these inaccurate games, the lack of communication from scott is the most prominent problem, NOT steel wool themselves.

"I am willing to say Steel Wool may not be the right fit for this series"
You can think what you want, but that doesn't matter.
The new era is about the consequences of the Afton family's actions, the Mimic, the greed of Fazbear Entertainment, and the agony of the past.

for the beginning about tracing models i think it is very important to point out that artist often use 3d models as direct reference and it isnt as easy as dropping it into blender and tracing it. you normally need to do a specific pose, joints, etc etc to get the image you want. it all comes down to preference i suppose, some see it as lazy but personally i understand especially for much more complicated designs with different moving parts.

Dude you need to rework that last section of the video. The misinterpretation and the arrogance (ironic considering what you said about SW) is crazy
you should watch design frame's video on security breach, that video shines bright light on steel wool
You did not cook with this
I would like to start with saying I'm dyslexic.
Yes, Scott made the mistake of not telling the plot to Steel Wool, but why didn't the guys working on SB pressed Scott to tell them more
You're telling me Scott was cryptic and the folks at Steel Wool went like "Ight, fair enough"
We can't blame one or the other, we need to blame both, Scott for being unclear and Steel Wool for just accepting things as they were
Scott's entire thing is that he's cryptic, literally everyone just goes with it because it hasn't failed until Security Breach where the poor communication just didn't work. Steel Wool not only understood that he was worried about leaks if he told everything, but also weren't communicating that much since Scott "retired" at the time.
It takes a lot of reaching to blame Steel Wool whatsoever.
>but why didn't the guys working on SB pressed Scott to tell them more
Why doesnt the community press Scott to tell them more? :V
Everyone going to skip the stolen assets, bad use of dev time, bloat, all to d*ckride, coddle, and cope for grown adults and “experienced“ devs all because story was mentioned. People actively look to baby this studio and I’m not here for it.
"Stolen assets" and it's like 5 people mistaking fan content for being official and immediately replacing it upon finding out
@wolfietronic356J Top is an incompetent developer for his delusions of grandeur, he tries to be enigmatic and cool but idea of such is BIG, SHINY, it’s not interesting if you’ve been following the franchise, it’s jarring. I like Ruin more and even then why was that? Limited scope, Focused effort.
@oj397 k
Steel wool didn't make into the pit
@wolfietronic356Well, I speak mostly for the franchise. I'm sure Steelwool didn't make the story for security breach either?

24:45, most of those critics are valid, except for the critic that he'd be dead.
Springtrap is literally a thing in this universe
And Springtrap has a beating heart in FFPS at that!
I'm barely getting halfway through this video and I'm so annoyed 😭
The fact you wonder how an indie dev, who was hired by FAZBEAR ENTERTAINMENT the damn guys whod know any and eveyrthing in their companys history (they literally remade the animatronics for the funtime delivery service come on dude think!), knew of characters ennard just to go and complain about confusion lore is very frustrating to me
There's also the filler in this near 2 hour long video, don't get me wrong your analysis of HW Curse of Dreadbead and SB are fantastic, but I'm here to see steel wools impact on fnaf I don't care about your feels about the plushbabies, I want to hear about minor details about textures, glitches, ACTUAL problems with the lore (not your misunderstanding or personal gripes) NOT how good the
Danger Keep Out game was
Yeah this video is far less factual and a LOT more emotional.
You're kind of an ass for this, ngl.
THIS IS NOT A HATE COMMENT but please read
I deleated my old comment since it got a lot of backflash after I said that I don't like Security Breach and prefered the og games.Though I do think I've should've explained why I personlly felt that these games fell flat (If you like Steel Wool FNAF go ahead all I wanted to do was give my two cents about one of my favorite franchises)
1: All I did was simply say " I wounder what this game would be like if it wasn't rushed" since there is A LOT about this game that I did like like
The graphics
Gregory and Glamrock Freddy ESPECIALLY
An official free-rom FNAF game
I love the concept of a kid and his friend snooping around a closed location overnight
I KNOW Scott didn't give them the full scope and it's not really a reboot but the game looked like it was gonna be a new era of FNAF kinda like a soft reboot like how in Sonic Fronteirs the characters felt like how they were rather than being characatures like in Sonic Forces)after the og story ended in FNAF 6 and I think that if given another year it could be the best one because I REALLY WANTED TO LIKE THIS GAME AND I SEE POTENTIAL
2: I just don't like the new villains
Vanny BARLEY exist
Mimic sucks
The glitch dude isn't even a threat just take the mask off
3: I just think Ruin is mid simple as that
4: I don't care for the books because they don't interest me hel I didn't even like the original novel trilogy
All I said was I wanted a reboot to give this franchise a nice make over because even back then the lore was hard to follow and we've already delt with The Afton Family in FNAF 6 so I though we needed a new villain with a new story but this one simply just didn't do it for me
Sorry if you like these games and that I'm not a big fan of this era but i'll stick to the first seven and Help Wanted one and two being the best
I honestly thought glitchtrap was gonna be William but as something more terrifying than he once was…. And not what we got (glares at the mimic)
Weighing in about the tracing thing as an artist:
Tracing is fine. It can be a way to learn how another artist does something you like (how they handle line weight, as an example.) Posting it is another thing. If you do, you want permission, and to explicitly lay out what happened ("I traced (x)'s lineart and then colored it all in my coloring style," as an example.)
When it comes to 3D modeling, "tracing" is super common.
@TheHENOOB I agree, Scott WAS responsibile for the lore fuckups.
Sim, sou BR mané, kkkkkk, e sim, conheço o Corinho, kkkkkkkkk.

Wow this is REALLY nitpicky
Glad you woke up from hibernation to upload.
There one slight thing you got wrong that isn’t too important, but it should be known. The person that made the FNAF games only made FNAF 1, 2, 3 and 4. Meaning the bigger scale games (i.e. Sister Location and FNAF 6) were not actually games in the lore.
Besides Ennard being in Help Wanted that just doesn’t make sense

Dude, talking about how tracing fan art for a game teaser is bad and then showing fan art with no credit that you couldn't find the artist for is so hypocritical. If you don't know the artist or they deleted their account, don't show it, show any other example WITH credit. Especially in the section speaking about fairness towards artists, it's such a weird decision.
EDIT: it's at 3:31 sorry for not explaining for anyone confused!
first can you show me when? Cuz maybe i missed it but he was showing or telling who make those arts ALSO its just one guy vs whole studio yeah its a bit hypocritical if thats true but what they did is much worse seeing how many times it happend in just one game ALSO dont you think it was a mistake if he missed it once? Cuz he always credited in the video, maybe i missed one when he didnt idk
@@kubaxterg9994 it's at 3:31, and yes it's very similar because he's probably making money off of the video just like steel wool was presenting the teaser. It's not to the same level, but when he put "i don't know the artist >.

It's kinda funny how Dane worked for months on a video, with one of the points being the lore is confusing. Then, Steel Wool with the steel chair comes in with a HW2 updates that metaphorically stares you in the face and confirms Tales is cannon.
But but but...books non canon. I can't read!!!
Just like what a wise lorist once said
"why would I need to go to a second source just to understand the story you're trying to tell?"
@SonicSensationYT because that second source is also a primary source? Like...the most recent FNaF books are LITERALLY games and the next set are ARG In Universe stuff. Scott literally is making the books how y'all wanted this whole time and you're still complaining.
@@at_witts_end3470 I haven't read any of the books besides the original trilogy because the newer ones don't interest me. It's not a good idea to stray to books just to answer people's questions, it'll cause more problems and plot holes in the story.
