This is an arrangement for big band of Tom Jobim’s Desafinado (Off Key). The main recording influences for this arrangement are the 1981 live performance by Jobim and the 1994 live performance by Jobim and Joe Henderson.
There is an essential element of passing the material around, creating dynamic shifts in timbre throughout the arrangement. The arrangement focus exclusively in reusing the original material presented by Jobim, opposed to heavily introducing newly composed material to the work, thus, its focus is on preserving the original essence of the work by Jobim.
