    With all that you grow I was surprised you bought tomato plants, but then you said some failed 😣. That happens.
    The bird netting works great and I don’t like working with it. It can be frustrating as it catches on everything-Hint-do not wear buttons or anything that will get tangled in it 😂. Also do check for birds and snakes that could get tangled in it. I haven’t had a bird yet, but we had a snake get caught-not poisonous thankfully.
    Nice overcast day to get out and finish sowing and planting. Also tweaking irrigation and I have an end section that has a few clogged emitters so I will try using air compressor to see if that unclogs the line. Otherwise I love my irrigation!! I need to be mindful about where it is as we had a few repairs from last year’s harvest😂.

    Love your videos... and your gardens! FYI Fennel should be kept at least 5 feet AWAY from other veggies, annuals, and herbs.. Fennel is Allelopathic which means it releases toxic chemicals from their roots, leaf tissue and seeds which stunt the growth of most other plants especially members of the nightshade family (tomatoes, peppers, and eggplant). Fennel roots also secrete chemicals that inhibit seed germination of most other plants including beans and peas. I keep Fennel and Dill in their own patch away from main veggies and herbs.

    An idea for future netting- this is my second year using mosquito bed netting. It works great, is durable, soft, and pretty inexpensive. Order in twin, fulll, queen or king, etc. lol

    Suggestion on the plant markers. I have the same ones from Green Stalk. Rather than write directly on them, I use my label maker (black label, white print) and add to the marker. This method allows for reuse and the labels will not fade.

    I think it is a brilliant idea to cover the strawberries. I lost all the strawberries in my raised beds last year to squirrels and chipmunks. They ate through the plastic mesh I used. And the birds got those in my Greenstalk planter. One question i have is how will you be picking your strawberries. Will you have to remove the mesh each time?

    • @SoilandMargaritas
      @SoilandMargaritas 5 місяців тому

      The way I attached the mesh I can easily grab them from the side where the mesh overlaps or from the top where I made the know, there is plenty of mesh on top, I am sure it will be a bit of trial and error but maybe it will be a good clip to show in a future video. I took my morning walk today and I noticed some birds trying to fly into it but it was impossible for them... I felt a sense of accomplishment then lol

    I did the lean system for my tomatoes last year and it worked great even though we had so much rain my tomatoes were just ok. I made a video of it. I don't know if you are going to use the little plastic clamps that hold the tomato to the cord but I highly recommend them. They pinch the cord and hold in place then wrap around the stem of the tomato keeping them in place. If you just wrap the cord around the tomatoes it can damage that stem especially if its windy. Just my two cents:). Your garden looks amazing! Its still pretty cold here 50's and 60's. so different from last year we were in the 80's. Love the video Roxana!

    • @capecodcottagegarden
      @capecodcottagegarden 5 місяців тому

      @@SoilandMargaritas Yes i will definitely do it again this year! My tomatoes just weren't great last year. We got too much rain and the tomatoes didn't have that really good tomato taste and the fruit split a lot. I attributed it all to the massive amounts of rain we got.

    I’ve planted my Roma tomatoes in my GreenStalk already. But I’ve just learned that determinant tomatoes give their fruit all at once and are done. Do you think it makes sense to start a succession batch of Roma tomato plants? I’ve got space in the garden
