The thing I love most about John Mayer is the fact that his music connects so many hearts across the world , and over time.
It transcends borders & time.
People are here from over 9 years ago till today, and people will keep coming back a decade later too.
Thank you, John! You've changed all of our lives :)
Damn, almost 8 years since I uploaded this. And I still can relate to every single word..
This is one of my favorite songs in the world, so powerful.
This is easily one of his best tunes...and, by far, his best performance of this song.
it’s 2023 and he just played this live. all is not lost
This is the type of song that needs to be repeated over and over again. You just can't hear this song once and be content, you have to hear repeatedly and only then do you appreciate more. Thanks J.M., this one needs to in one of your next albums.
It's the most soothing way to say/sing the word "hummingbird", I've ever heard. Love his voice.
John Mayor is truly one of todays true legends.Awesome ,guitarist, songwriter, and musican , # 3 on my favorite artists of today.
there isnt a artist in the world who has more random youtube performances video's you stumble upon after years than John
This is such a beautiful song, It literally brings you in another world.
This a beautiful well crafted tune! Very different! Loved it the first time I heard it!
i literally started crying during this. I love John mayer soo much :)
My very favorite John mayer song. The whistle! I remember seeing this on channel 11 (Chicago) in the evening on the kitchen tv ❤️ time sure flies
He picked up a guitar when he was 12 or 13 but he always loved pop music, then he heard SRV and decided he wanted to play guitar.. but really do you blame him? SRV is the bomb. my favorite song live by jm every time he does it.. everyone just sits there quietly and listens. great thing to witness.
I don't get how he comes up with great song after great song after great song. his technical skill combined with his endless creativity produces such genuinely good songs that he just blows my mind!
I stumbled over this song in a downloading frenzy one day and have not stopped listening to it since. Thanks for posting!

The passion, the meaning, the song is truly beautiful and this is one of the best versions….
There’s a live disc,,, with band, I believe on as/is. But still would be great to have an album version.

Such a beautiful song, and takes an intermediate guitarist to play it. (Just learned it) Thanks John for such wonderful and beautiful music to inspire our lives...
I could listen to that main guitar playing during the song forever...
I watched this special when it aired on our PBS station. I called in and payed for the program and they never sent it. So many years later, I am able to find this. So grateful. Thanks for putting it up.
it's just... beautiful.
his voice has given the new meaning to my interest in music ...he taught me that music is a love and religious ...where there is no god but a motive to live for and that is love and love and be expressive of what anyone want to say ....
gorgeous song....casts a spell on me every time I watch it...
john is just wonderful! love this song!
he is my drug to cure all my problems in my life ....he helped to re-begin my life again and in any problematic scenario ,his voice and singing provides me a great support ....love u JM....m not a gay :P but a true fan of JM from INDIA

First time I've heard this! This is brilliant!
i can tell ya when u start singing and playing with a real feel and deepness for the song your playing, facial expressions and all that shit go out the window. for those 4 minutes or more you are at complete harmony
I linger on his every note and every word...hummingbird
This is my favorite John Mayer song🐦🕊️
Man this brings back fucking memories back in the summer of '09 when his concert would always come on the "Palladia" channel on DirecTV. Shit always make me smile yet teary eyed lol.
*John Mayer is a legend. No denying that.*
Beautiful & legendary talent
LYRICS:
Once upon most every morning
I woke up to find her flying there
Hummingbird was making blurs of
Blowing rings of purple in the air
All the while, I was trying to keep her there
Now I'm man enough to leave,
But man enough to always care (always care)
Hummingbird, hummingbird
That's all I heard, that's my hummingbird
Just because I said I didn't want her
Doesn't mean I want her to go
In fact, I quite depended on her
But that I didn't want her to know
And now that's she's gone I know, all the while
I was trying to keep her there, yeah, yeah, yeah
Now I'm man enough to leave
But man enough to always care (always care)
Hummingbird, hummingbird
That's all I heard (I heard), that's my hummingbird
That's my --
i agree full on, u really have to dig deep for his best songs
this is the first time i've heard this song.... i love it!
One of Johns top 3 songs!
this song is amazing
i forgot how much i loved this song
go straight to my heart
switching from flat picking to finger picking is freaking flawless.
what u talking about? the whistling part is amazing, its what makes this song so unique
@capoman1 I understand skepticism, but you have to remember he honed that ability doing tons of coffee house type gigs. I have a recording of him at a record store appearance and he was pondering what to play next and someone yelled N'Sync to be funny. He launched into Pop and didn't miss a beat or a word. He also used to play stump the musician occasionally online and I've yet to see him stumped. He really is just that adept and he listens to everything. He's a true lover of music as a whole.
Love this song.
Eerie beautiful
I saw this live on pbs, ufff a long time ago.
If you are reading this and looking at my koala, you know who I am and what this song means to me about a special woman I was blessed to have in my life!!
exactly. It's a perfect chill song.
john mayer > everything else in life
how did i just discover this song!??!?! This is probably the only one I've never heard and it's amazing
his music gives me peace and I am really relaxed when I lissen to it.. ( sorry for my bad englisch)
He gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "OH MY GOD!"
'ive never played it acoustic by myself' = the greatest lie ever told
Rich Barnes How is it a lie? I thought he meant that he never played it live without any accompaniment(pianos and such).
I like the whistling part :) so hummingbird-ish :)
my favorite version this one here
Such talent
Thanks! I was going nuts trying to figure it out!
I just listened to it, first time :) Your right, very likeable. J.M does cover Hummingbird with BB though on a greatest hits album (assumption on my part that this was the "Hummingbird" song...)
My heart still pulls at this song thou...
I love these not-well-known JCM songs!
so cute when he whistles. ,3
If you get where I'm coming from, this song is serendipity.
no words
great vibe
i love this song...i want to really figure out the lyrics but i still love the sound of it.
fret buzz is something that can be almost completely eliminated, but he obviously chose to keep it. it adds something really raw to an acoustic sound.
You'll notice that when he uses his fingers, it's his thumb, index and middle finger. His pinky looks open, so I'd guess that he's holding it in the back of his ring finger knuckle. At least that's how a lot of people do it and how I was taught... He could just have some sort of Mayer magic. You never know!
2019 :(
Thumbs up if you miss the double popped collar.
I hate when this song ends :(
totally unrelated to Jon Mayer, but my band was being interviewed by a magazine and when asked who writes our songs. We explained "A nerdy white guy and 3 black female soul singers write everything" The guy kept nodding and writing saying "that's interesting" I'm still convinced he wasn't listening to anything being said.
relaxing song :)
damn you know how hard it is to whistle and play guitar at the same time! lol i love you john mayer
I'll Like this just for him whistling in it ;)
@capoman1 He said he'd never played it ACOUSTIC. He was playing an electric version of the song quite a bit at the time. There are vids of him all over youtube where people have thrown out song titles to him (of other artists) and he's played them on the fly with barely a missed note. Just because most people can't do that doesn't mean there aren't musicians out there that can. If he can do that with other people's songs, doing one of his own that he knows intimately would be relatively easy.
lol john mayer man that dudes a great singer he had every girl in the room wett
This song is a BB King original. You can get this song on his greatest hits CD, it is a performance of JM and BB King. I love this song by JM also...I have looked for a recording available to the general public, but have found nothing! He should come out with a rarities, oddities CD or something. He is great :)
the audience is mesmirized
Thank you Irene Vos
same here man.
Thanx dude :)
I believe he says 'ive never played this acoustic, so i'm gonna give it a try' or something along those lines!
You can find this song on as/is album.
this is the first time i heard one of his songs

Is it too late
I wish I knew that too.
He holds the pick in between his pinky and ring finger when he goes into the chorus, cause you only need your thumb, index, and middle to play the chorus the way he does. give that a shot, its the way i do it when i play this song and it seems to work fairly well.
same here...
How can you argue with this?
Arigatou Niketaz-san
This is amazing! I think he does it by sliding it between his index and middle finger. Well thats the way I find quickest and most comfortable. He is such a legend though. Might be some ninja trick he learned at Berklee
He said the next album would be raw acoustic, I hope he sticks with that and includes this. This and "In Your Atmosphere" aka LA song.
Anyone know where I can find decent tabs on this....beginner and would love to learn this....one of my many favorites of his.....thx in advance!
i agree.
I do not own the copyrights,
Well I just borrowed them for a while
OK as a guitar player I'm wondering where he puts the flat pick at 0:43 when he switches from hybrid flat picking to pure thumb and finger style? And then how does he pick it back up again so quick? It's a good trick whatever it is!
naaahh.... it´s magic ! ;-)
He actually says: "This is a song called Hummingbird, I've never played it accoustic but I'ma try it."
I just refuse to understand why this wouldn't make it on an album.
Brandon Joshua i know right? but at least you still can find it on spotify
Yeah but I think that's what's kinda beautiful about it
There’s no explanation
He rewrote it, it’s called do you know me at all. Sale with taking on water.. that’s now Walt grace
@@TheRyanHeffner this is hardly similar at all to Do You Know Me, probably same with Walt.
