I switched from full frame to M43 and will never look back.
I’ve done exactly the same thing and feel the same 👍
I've done the same as well - I started with Micro 4/3s but got sucked into the sensor size trap. I went to aps-c and then full frame before realising I was much happier with my M4/3 gear. It's been a year back and I couldn't be happier!
I’ve also done the same 😆
I have panasonic full frame and micro four thirds, my favourite is M43 by far.
Best comment I’ve herd about micro 4/3rds computational settings it’s like having Lightroom in a camera.
And with the coming OM-3, and the added Creative Dial from the legendary PEN-F, it is really like having Lightroom in the camera.
Nice to see Dad out with the kids. Hope Mum has put her feet up for the day. Lovely images, Chris. No, MFT is certainly not dead.
As I said on the preview photo, Great Congratulations for the Recognition that OM System has given you by lending the OM-1mk2 and the 8-25.
You really deserve recognition for your excellent photography.
I hope you can afford to invest in a 8-25. I bought a refurbished one for about 560£, with full warranty. And I love love love it. I wish I had the GND function, so I might trade in my OM-1 for the OM-3. I love the creative dial too, so all in one beautiful camera is all I need.
Thanks for the kind words. I was rather surprised they had even seen me let alone wanted to do something together. I’m going to be saving some cash and buying the 8-25mm as it will be a shame to see it go!
What a lovely video. I'm in a hospital right now, it's sunday morning and bloody boring, so thanks a lot for these nice impressions. Looking forward to your next one and kind regards from Germany.
Hope it’s not too serious and your back up on your feet quickly. Glad my little road trip was able to bring you some entertainment.
Chris, dead chuffed that OMS have noticed you, you deserve it for the effort you put in! Also dead chuffed if you’ve still got all 4 kids after the adventure 🙈🤣. Great pics as per usual, I think my fave is the one over the pathway of the bridge with the mountain in the background. Keep up the excellent work, already looking forward to the next vid. 👍
Chris, love your videos. With the live GND turned on you can adjust the exposure settings by pressing the info button to switch views and display the controls. Press the info button again to return to the simulated view. You may have to press a couple of times to cycle through the views but that’s all you have to do. Much simpler than going back into the menu. It is actually written up in the manual but I had the same experience when I first started using it until I thought, if they’re smart enough to develop the feature surely they wouldn’t be dumb enough to make you turn it off, readjust your settings, turn it back on again, etc. so then I thought they use the info button to cycle through other features and bingo.
What a breath of fresh air - you’re a natural in front of a camera! I loved seeing the kids in this video, it feels more authentic and down-to-earth than so much photographic content. I got the 8-25 for Christmas - OM were doing some great deals at the time, so I got a good bargain.
Excellent Chris Nice to see OM system helping you out now after what u have done for the system since starting with the em1 mk2 great to see ur three kids and spider boy out in the fresh air loving life and being kids. 👍🏻👏🏻
Absolutely part for my parenting plan is doing what my parents did. Go and explore, get muddy, get a bruise, eat mud. Too many kids want a screen! Thanks for the kind words and following the journey.
I agree, coming from 1” sensors, to MFT and then to full frame Nikon Z, I am back with the MFT with its very advanced systems, like, the OM1 Mk 2 and the new OM3. It is far from being dead. Cheers
Glad you enjoyed!
You really hit the stride with your channel - and doing this video while flea herding... Mad respect.
Those computational features are so game changing for landscape photography.
Used correctly I agree. I just hope they don’t take over and replace some of the techniques from the real world. As much as I love them they can only do so much.
MFT isn't dead. It's just getting started!!😃😃
Good man! My thoughts exactly.
Thanks for the great videos. I always learn a lot😃
Thank you! FYI: I set the lens function button on my 8-25mm to Keystone Comp. With this lens and the 40-150mm Pro, I have all I need for outdoors (-I never miss the 26-39mm gap).
I moved from FF to MFT primarily because of the weight of the lenses. At my age it made a huge difference. And that led me to discover the great computational features on the OM System cameras. And this great video shows us what can be done.
14:20
Cracking video Chris, stunning photos, OM systems are knocking it out of the park, and you mate are showcasing them. Just moved to mft and picked up a cracking Em1x, loving it. Keep up the good work 👍🏻
Have fun with the EM1x. How do you find it?
MFT is now it it's peak actually... Great, tremendous cameras like OM1 MKII, OM3, G9 II, GH7, unbeatable lenses like Olympus 12-100, Olmypus 8-25, Panasonic Leica 50-200, Panasonic Leica 42.5, Olympus 45, Panasonic Leica 10-25/1.7 and 25-50/1.7 - all that is COMPLETELY lacking on any other system. So, as a system, MFT has now A LOT to offer for demanding photographers (like me). I switched to MFT in 2024 from a Full Frame system and I am happy using MFT, my G9 (the first one!), when paired with Pro lenses (like those i listed) gives great IQ, not worse then FF system I owned before that.
P.S. Yes, yes, i don't have THAT shallow DOF I could get from FF system, but shallow DOF is not very important to me as I rarely shoot portraits.
You could get same shallow dof in MFT portraiting, you just have to get a more tele lens. And stand a bit further away. Ok, not the super shallow that a 0.95 lens gives, but as shallow as they have to be.
@@sweden_ove2074 I have 45/1.2, that's perfectly enough for me. DOF is like 85mm/2.2 on FF.
Beautiful photos! And kids having fun, a perfect day!
Brilliant work! I would love to see a video on how you processed these in post-production.
I could make one, sure.
Hopefully someone from OM Systems will watch this and lend you the new OM-3 to try out. And if anyone from OM reads this comment, you could lend one to me too please. Great pics, great video. I'm investing in this system with new glass and a new body as use it professionally. M4 3 is far from dead.
I love the retro vibe of the new camera, but aren’t the internals just the OM-1 Mark ii?
@@ChrisBaitsonPhoto Slightly reduced function internals of the MKII so only 1 card slot , lower spec EVF etc. The reason I like it is it's small, discreet and less professional looking if you want to do street photography. Love the OM 1 MKII but the OM3 ticks almost all the boxes. They just need to drop the price by £200-£300. Also have you seen the new 25mm F1.8 and 17mm F1.8 weather sealed lenses? Very useful and when I can afford I'll upgrade mine.
Beautiful time with your family in a sublime landscape. Great work.
Hi Chris, a fantastic video, buddy! Ahh, I like that racking light in the very beginning of your video. It makes me want to be out with my camera there 😊 Unfortunately, that is not possible in the moment. But times will get better, hopefully.
Wasn't MFT called dead for quite a long time? Seems like a long and lasting death 😆
Thank you for the video and enjoy your Sunday,
Christian
Thanks for stopping by Chris(tian) and how come you’re unable to get out at the moment? The format has been called dead since its inception I think.
@ChrisBaitsonPhoto I got ill last summer. Since then I was not able to leave my house anymore. I went a bit more in detail in my latest video, which is also about how important it is to appreciate everything we love, as long as that is possible. Quite a difficult situation for me in the moment, but I'm looking forward.
Lovely pictures!!
Dude your first image is FIRE (using the parlance of the times). Also the editing was on point.
Loving my Om-1 journey and to watch how you were using it. Now I'm debating the new om-3. Much excitement around this one. I wonder if OM Systems will allow you to test that against the om1 mk2?
I hope they will let Chris test the OM-3 soon. He deserve it.
And I will have to buy that camera too. It's the destiny. It is.
At least! My favourite system by far, the difference is on the lenses!!!
Terrific photos! Hi to the kids!!
Great pictures Chris! Looking forward to seeing how you get on with the OM-1 - MKII in the coming weeks. I have the Leica 8mm-18mm F2.8 Panasonic lens and the image quality is amazing…but it won’t have the quality weather sealing (some) compared to the OM 8mm-25mm Lens. I don’t understand why there is such negative press over M4/3rds. Every camera has its pros and cons. I simply get lots of enjoyment using my OM-1 and have learnt to get the best out of the camera optimising the settings to get the best dynamic range and detail. I would be interested to see what you think of the Hi Res 14 Bit RAW settings with the MKII.
As soon as we can get tiny m43 cameras with pdaf we're off to the races. Oh, and the new OM-3 is not tiny. I'm dying for an e-p7 with pdaf.
I think the OM5 has phase detect but please double check
I recently bought the e-p7 and have trouble viewing the monitor as bright sun in Australia. Monitor not as good as an iPhone. Since it has some of the creative stuff in the OM-3, and more, have pre-ordered that. At least it has a viewfinder, and one that works with spec wearers!
I loved this video. I like hearing about your thought processes when you take a photo. You are an amazing photographer.
PS - your kids are very cute!
Great Video! and very good pictures! Greetings from Germany. Thanks for taking with you. I hope my english is not too bad.
Great video, loved your ability to herd children AND take photographs 😆
I can only take two at once 😂
12:52 is my off limit.
Thank you! 😀 the stress was real haha.
Great Vid & location Chris.
📸
Chris,
Great video. I was wondering if you had a link for the L-bracket you are using?
It’s on my storefront link on my channel.
I love your images, with that personal style. Without a doubt you are using one of my favorite configurations, my OM1II+M.ZUIKO8-25MM. This focal length is unique, there is no other equivalent lens in other systems... having a 16-50mm equivalent is simply great! The MFT system with current technology is what makes sense for consistency... returning to the classic 35mm format is only explained by spending more money and going more loaded to get sick...😂
PS: By the way, you can have the GND filter activated and compensate the exposure (once you have chosen the GND filter by pressing the OK button you can make adjustments to speed, aperture, exposure...).
Awesome, thank you! I had a feeling there must have been a way but by the A82 with 4 kids running wild time wasn’t a luxury. Big help, thank you.
Thanks for your videos, Chris - I appreciate your casual approach to explaining things, with great results. I have an OM-1 Mark 1 and am considering the Mark II or the OM-3, both with the GND you mentioned. Sorry for the extended comment, but a question: I just spent some time taking pics of a frozen Great Lake, here in the states. I used the Hi Res functionality on a tripod, without filters, and was suprised to see blue sky come out dark blue, as if I used a polarizing filter. Then it dawned on me - the camera was adjusting down, based on the white ice surface. I was happy how the ice turned out and wondered - could I use a GND flipped upside down? Does the Mark II allow for that? Thanks, again.
Amazing photos Chris
Thank you Alex.
Fab captures. I got 8-25 at the Birmingham photo show last year and haven't used it yet. I'm thinking of getting an OM-1 mk 2 or the new OM3 to pair it with.
Super shots
Some cracking photos Chris. I have the 12-40 II & thinking of an ultra wide but the cost of the 8-25mm a little prohibitive atm even 2nd hand. Pana 9mm 1.7 prob the way to go for me.
Yeah I agree even the used price of the 8-25mm is a bit much but it’s one that I feel will be useful. Be a shame to send this one back so I had best start saving. I own the Laowa 6mm but it’s a bit too wide at times.
Pana 9mm is my favorit lens... Is extremely useful with ability to go very close and give you dramatic perspective. Just love it.
Nice to have a personal location scout with you … ;-) I'm not so sure about m43, I'm underwhelmed by the latest announcements of OM Systems (even though all "influencers" seem to be so impressed by the OM-3), but it's my system of choice - so I'm all for promoting it! ;-) Good shots, btw.
Beautiful photos! Would to see your editing workflow!
Noted! But a lot of folks argue with me when I upload editing videos. Do something different and…. Ooft shouldn’t do it like that.
these are excellent shots sir
can this camera be used for professional work ? ive heard so much regarding micro 4/3
why it shoud lbe dead? :D it is an excellent system, I'm using m43 in parallel with FF ... frankly 98% of the time is m43 system I select. Excellent IQ, portability, lenses quality ...
Couldn’t agree more. I think the format was marked dead on inception but it’s persistent and thriving with innovation.
I still own 3 Olympus cameras one from 2010 and 2 from 2012 the Omd Em5 just returned from 3 months in the humid tropical Philippines. And I am outside in the cold right now with my pocketable Epl 5 and a pancake manual focus lens, oh what fun. Sure I have the newest Lumix full frame and a Sony 1 inch that I dont enjoy much but my Olympus cameras are so good that I am considering selling my FF for the new OM 3. I know Olympus cameras are built like tanks and MFT make me so happy.
R nice to meet your feral children. 4 !? I can barely handle my one. Great video. Where can I vote for you to become an OM ambassador? Keep um coming bud. Hope they let you keep the kit
For the ultra wide angle lenses with the convex fronts making the use of filters veryvexpensive or difficult. Thr computational ND filters are awesome.
Nice one mate .... 👍
Depending on what you shoot ?
Call it the "Buckle Etive More"
Buckle as in belt? I shall remember that one!
Nice photos I have been shooting MFT since it came out love the system would love the OM 1 mkii when it gets a bit cheaper 😮
MFT dead? no. they are not having an easy time. that's because they still stick to their 20 mg pixels. 20 mg pixels is more than enough for 90% of all photography. If Om-system were to release a camera with 25 mega pixels they would break all sales records. only Full frame internet celebrities today and their Trolls wish MFT dead, but mft is alive and well, and will not die. Very Nice photo’s
Very enjoyable and informative. Love the kids being kids. Turns out I have a SpiderMan grand son as well.😃
Get these lens's:
- TTArtisan 25mm f2 APS-C, yes manual and you will love it!
- Panasonic LUMIX G 14mm F/2.5 II ASPH
- Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 40-150mm F/4-5.6 R
Four kids as well!
Feel for me.
@@ChrisBaitsonPhotoHappy for you.
AWESOME ! AND AWESOME VIDEO . SUBSCRIBED .
I’m fully vested in MFT but unless they somehow combine a IPhone with a camera for the computational photography I see no reason to upgrade from my em1-mkIII. The prices on used market for full frame mirrorless is dropping fast. I have good collection of EF and vintage lens. I probably get a 7 III soon with a couple good primes and adapt the rest of my lenses. I will still use my em1-mkIII as my E.D.C. most comfortable, ergonomic camera I’ve used and I love the advance features and use most of them.
Hey Chris, I’m using EM1 Mark ii. Im into landscape and street photography. Should i upgrade?
Upgrade to the OM-3. That's the state of the art street camera. And if you need a grip, soon the 3rd party manufacturers will make excellent ones.
You can't get better camera for street photography.
And for landscape too.
The EM1ii is a great all rounder but the new OM-3 would be epic for street photography.
I liked most of the photos except for the first one: you really overdid it with the contrast and HDR or whatnot and the composition is way too busy. May be that I'm not feeling well today but that photo just felt like an acid trip, I'd tone it down a good 50%. 3:29 and 7:28 - now that's way better.
Thanks for the input.
Great video and beautiful images. I do have to say though that your calling that camera the OM2 multiple times made me cringe.
that oversaturated HDR look has been out of fashion for about twenty years now ... cool location though
Sorry, 20 years ago I was mid teens. Bringing back a trend I missed out on!
VIVA MFT !
Viva!
Can someone tell me ... are the computational features that OM build into their cameras possible in FF cameras and its just that manufacturers choose not to and nothing to do with being MFT or FF ? Hope that makes sense 🤣
It is possible in FF cameras too, but the body's will have to grow in size and weight. That is the problem with tech. Much tech of big size makes weight.
It's a compromise, that it looks the FF manufacturers are not willing to take it seems.
And that's the previlege of MFT. They could put more electronics into their bodies, since the sensor is smaller physically. And smaller sensors benefit everything except for price, pixel density, and the things that bring. The price of making smaller but still fully capable sensors are actually higher than not having to miniature it. People forget that and demands too low prices.
It is possible yes but due to the smaller sensor and less data to handle, the MFT cameras are able to process at a rate which makes it usable.
Again an amazing location and a very jealous viewer. Let me know when you're in the New Forest!
I could head there in a week or two actually. How is it for macro?
@@ChrisBaitsonPhoto Well, there is plenty of woodland, so insects etc are plentiful.
guilty too!
very dangerous. If Olympus OM doesn't improve its target market correctly, it could be like Nokia or BlackBerry. the price is still relatively expensive because the market still considers the FF to be better than the M43
The market will never fully see that big is not always beautiful. Unfortunately. But OM System and Lumix should be better in marketing the advantages in tech that FF can't meet.
@sweden_ove2074 lumix yes good.. GH7, G9ii and have FF S9, S5ii.. And lumix price Better.. I have OMD EM1 mark 2 (second 90% like new).. Because cheap in my country just $690..
What are the advantages of OM3 compared to Nikon ZF? or lumix S9? besides the lens being lighter... because the OM3 is more expensive. And same price with OM1 ii.
I'm just having an opinion.. don't be like Nokia.. Die because wrong strategi.. ✌️😆
Micro Four Thirds isn’t dead. It’s just the same price as full frame now.
Some of the best features in all photography packed into a compact weather sealed metal body with some of the best IBIS, not sure why it wouldn't be expensive. I feel bad for people who judge cameras based on sensor size.
@@WaterfallJoewas going to say the exact same thing. I wonder who uses the toilets rather than the urinals when in public 😅
i have the 7-14 and use the internal ND to deal with artifacts from thesun and it works well. i assume it would be the same with this lens
@@ifell3 notice how your comment still doesn’t have likes. Not one person agrees with you or wants to bully with you. You’re on your own here and in life.
Olympus most expensive lens 5-6 thousand pounds and superb quality. Canon l series tens of thousands. No better quality. I rest my case and I loved my canon. Too.
Wonderful photos but Daddies are really bad baby sisters. Well that is what my wife says.
😂😂😂
The whole topic is BORiNg
1:53 overedited picture . Totally destroyed. Its not a picture anymore
Thanks for the input.
It’s a matter of taste. I like some saturation.
It's slowly dying. No new lenses from major producers like Sigma or Tamron, few from chinese brands. Even Panasonic and OM just adding some shit like seals to the lens. Where's new optical designs?
Don’t change what isn’t broken?
I think Sigma and Tamron always looks for gaps in a manufacturers lens range, so they can add budget or specialist lenses that the main brand doesn't offer. I guess the thing is, Oly & Panny between them, have covered just about everything at every focal lens from super budget lenses to fast primes and little but powerful zooms. I don't think Tamron could bring anything to the range that isn't there at a price that's any lower.
