The old goat is hanging off the shelf behind Mamma Hoss on top of the get dirty bag. 10 things to grow Potatoes Onions Garlic Brassicas Peppers Tomatoes Green beans Cucumbers Carrots Herbs
Truthfully we cannot give you our top ten picks as far as growing in our garden. Thanks to you (?) we have delved into many new varieties of vegsatables in our garden. We are definite foodies and yes we love all the delicious "spices" that come from our garden! THEE Old Goat well he seems to be enjnoying the comfort of the mesh bag. Going to seriously consider planting some Luffah Gourds. VERY much on the fence in regartds to the Stevia though!
I just love y'all's channel! I learn something new every time I watch. HOSS is the fasting shipping seed company I know. I also appreciate the stickers and extra little things y'all add to my package. Mrs. Hoss, Would you mind sharing your soap making recipe? Thank you, Val from the MS Delta
So glad you guys are okay! Received my order from y'all very quickly and I appreciate that! Can't wait to grow more of that good corn! Old goat is in the ladle over Ms. Hoss's head. I can't believe y'all left OKRA off your top ten!!!
Love growing Stevia for using in my teas. Will have to try the candy Stevia, sounds interesting. Old goat is behind Sheila hanging in front of the bag.
Hey y'all! And I don't say that because y'all say it. I say it becauseI say it. Momma Hoss, so sounds stuffy. Hope you get well soon. Can't wait for new seeds. Old goat, in the ladle above Momma Hoss.
Greg, Meagan just got so tickled when you started with your list.. she said you sound just like me my list would be pretty much the same as yours in just about the same order. Except I’d replace winter squash with cowpeas and carrots with cranberry beans
We want to try some Jimmy red this year and absolutely love cream corn here in this house. PS..Old goat is just hanging out in front of the new mesh bag!
We're supposed to get down to 18°, here in Verbena, AL. I hope y'all's gardens make it. I had a lot of stuff planted, but the freak frost, in October, killed everything, except for collards, rutabagas, beets and turnips. 🙏🏻❤️
Garlic, tomatoes, green beans, cabbage, cauliflower, winter squash, potatoes, sweet potatoes, onions and peppers. Got a ways to go before we can start planting here in Maine, but I can’t wait!! The old goat 🐐 is in front of the get dirty bag that’s hanging. Going to have to check out those stevia seeds.
Hey Y’all! The old goat is standing in the ladle hanging in front of the new storage bag which I’m going to order to store my onions. I’m growing Hoss onion plants. This is my first time growing onions and I’m excited to see how I do. Thanks!
Well, the Ole' Goat is getting ready to "ladle" out some info today. Standing in the ladle hanging in front of the "Git Dirty" mesh bag behind Mama Hoss. We had 5.25" inches of rain out of the storm earlier this week, but also did not loose power. Not so sure about tomorrow's weather (Friday 1/12/2024). Our weather is predicted to be 15* next week for 2 night. I was hoping the last of the broccoli heads would get a little bigger, but I'll take what I can get. Our onions will probably be the only thing I need to keep going and cover for two nights next week. Greg, give some yellow and gold tomatoes a try. Much less acid and still have great taste. We have had good results with Carolina Gold and Lemon Boy, but I want to give Beauty King a try also. I've been amazed at how well the Carolina Gold keep. We still have a few in the fridge from the 2023 crop. Good to see the new additions to the Hoss seed lineup. It's getting close to time for us to start our seedlings indoors too! I would also love to see Mama Hoss post a video on making the Stevia drops at some point. I've used the liquid splenda (sucralose) for my coffee, but never seen home made liquid stevia.
Hello from Tampa Bay FL. Excellent episode, made me think seriously about what my top 10 items to grow would be. Haven’t gotten to 10 but tomatoes, jalapeños, mustard greens, ginger, radishes, lettuce, okra, snow peas and cilantro.
Old school guy here but heres min favorites for eating: sweet corn, okra, lady finger peas, butterpeas, butterbeans, potatoes, peppers, tomatoes, green beans and lettuce
Mama Hoss, how do you dry stevia? Can you just hang it, like some of the other herbs? I only have a dehydrator otherwise. Although it probably is better made in a liquid huh? ..... Ok, I just watched a video, and answered my question, but, do you think making your own without the preservatives gets rid of that off flavor you get in sugar replacement products? I never could get past that taste in diet sodas. Thanks. I'm going to start some herbs in grow bags this spring. This one is a must try. Oh yeah, she soaked her leaves in Vodka (pleasant surprise), for 36 to 48 hours then cooked it down.
Just as I typed this you said straw was okay. But is my garlic going to be okay? I have a good layer of straw and under it I have a light covering of leaves. We’ve have plenty of rain, but this year I planted garlic around my fruit trees(I saw somewhere, that it may keep Deer and other animals away),but my garlic out there had popped up through my straw! I did put more straw down. I don’t need to cut some of that growth do I? Just let it be right? Thanks y’all! Oh! That ole goat I think is hanging at the shelf right behind your beautiful wife 😬😁😊 Stay warm y’all!
My top 10 are tomatoes, okra, butterbeans, field peas, green beans, cucumbers, winter squash, summer squash, potatoes and some kind of green. I wish I had more room for corn.
Another great show ole goat is hanging out in a spoon behind Mrs. Hoss. For those interested in apothecary I'd seriously recommend 'She is of the Woods' unlike Honeystead April makes it simple and easy to understand plus it's free for those who might be tight on money. I've tried Honeystead and she tends to over complicate the simple things. To each his own I guess
Gonna have to try Irish taters this year. My onions are doing well. Ol goat is in he dipper hanging with the Get Dirty bag over Sheila's right shoulder.
Most popular summer veg is fruit including squash, pepper, eggplant, tomato, okra, cucumber, melon, and watermelon. And yes, the argument is often it's considered a veg.
Here in TN I've actually parred down what I garden now that the focus is on sustainability and self sufficiency and limit myself to high nutrition veg that we actually eat regularly - my vital dozen for the past two years are: Irish (spring/fall) and Sweet Potatoes, Green Beans, Carrots, Beets, Sweet Corn, Tomatoes, Peas (spring/fall), Broccoli (spring/fall), onions and shallots, a few cucumbers for pickles, melons for hot summer days and just a couple annual herbs. I've learned by limiting my garden focus, I have more time/energy to tend what I call my vital dozen veg. I suppose I could take beets/cucumbers but I'll keep my vital dozen. We raise our own layer and broiler chickens and have fruit/berries planted. And since buying our freeze dryer a couple years ago, I freeze dry most of my veg and really only can tomatoes, soups, and chicken from processing culls/organs/carcass for the dogs. It sure cuts down on my grocery bills and my trips to grocery is primarily dairy. Not trusting what's being put into production beef, pork I'm now switching over to the Menonites who maintain several small stores where they offer their surplus beef/pork.
We are getting single ...if minus digits. I have pine shavings on my onions, garlic,. I can completely cover my strawberries. Anything else i can do. My onions and garlic have stems above the ground. Any ideals? I am in hollysprings, ms ....near Memphis, tn.
The ol goat is over Mrs Hoss head! I got a faulty dramm waterer for Christmas but it doesn’t work. I was told you all sent me out a new one but I still haven’t gotten it. Could you check on it for me?
So my collards in my greenhouse that’s un heated will be ok if it gets down to 18 or lower for us in NC . My collards will me having the 3 year Birthday come spring. I hope they down bolt this year so they can grow grow grow . I guess I be taking my sides down by Tuesday because we go down hill from there till the following Monday. Burrrrr it’s gonna be Cold at night.
I'm with you my garden is controlled by my pantry needs. This year I'm on my last jar of pickles, so I will grow cucumbers but that's usually an every other year event for me..
I'd have to plant tomatoes, onions, garlic, carrots, beets, green beans, butternut squash, cabbage, and okra. The old goat is in the laddle hanging behind mama hoss.
Thank y'all for the great show. Not looking forward to this cold have a while field of onions started here in deep south Louisiana. Supposed to be 16 overnight. Mr old goat is hanging out in the laddle behind Ms Hoss. Wishing y'all a blessed evening.
Been watching your show for years now.Only twice i have seen the old goat. It's hanging off the shelf above Sheilas head on the get dirty mesh bag!Love you guys and putting on an order now.
We are going to be in the single digits next week. I harvested my carrots and beets today in my raised beds. What about my elephant garlic? Should I cover those? 😭🥶 I see the old goat hanging out above Mr. Hoss.♥️ I would add microgreens and bean sprouts to my top 10.
Greg's list is exactly what I thought of when he asked what ten things would we grow if we could only grow ten things. I have Seminole pumpkins from last season and I don't have to worry about preserving them, although I did can some. If you couldn't get anything else to eat and you have salt you could live off the ten things on Greg's list. Onions and garlic makes so many dishes taste better. Cubed pumpkin, cubed potatoes, chopped onions and garlic, carrots and celery baked in the oven is delicious. You can drizzle some olive oil or butter over it before you stick it in the oven and it makes you hungry to smell it cooking.
I just received an order from y’all, and candy Stevia was one of them. Can I go on and start some in a pot inside? I’ve got a nice area off my kitchen, that gets the morning sun, or I’ve got grow lights set up as well. I’m in TN. Im pretty excited about this one,I wasn’t sure if it will be okay. Thanks y’all!
Got my seeds from y'all quickly. Thanks so much. Waiting on the potatoes. I am on my 10th cutting of the just top turnips. Thanks for all the wonderful information

HA! Took me a minute to find the old goat. He’s hanging right above Mrs. Shiela’s head near the new Hoss bags.

Great video.
Thanks, Lisa! Glad you enjoyed it!
Greg, I somehow think you're gonna find room for watermellon, even if it's out in the grass somewhere.😂
🤣 You’re right!

Gonna have to try Irish taters this year. My onions are doing well. Ol goat is in he dipper hanging with the Get Dirty bag over Sheila's right shoulder.
Parthenocarpic cucs are the only way I got any harvest due to grasshopper cloud the last two years. I grow under agribon.
