It's for multiplayer balancing. You can mod OP lasers back in for the single player campaign if you want.

@@Bruh-td7ex It's not a superweapon in AC7 is the thing, it's a strange but more normal weapon now considering normal planes can have the TLS. The only thing that's different is the fact the Falken and Morgan's TLS isn't doing the damage it's supposed to.

IMO they went too far with it, especially given the skill level required to battle and win with it. I never see TLS players winning matches. I think it should get a longer range, the rest of the attributes are okay. Maybe give the ADFX some kind of micro-self-adjust because the mounting struts imply that it can be aimed
edit: kinda like the GUN part where it aims itself. it should be balanced such that it's a hinderance for high level players :)
I would say that the nerf was kinda necessary, given the fact that back in the ps2 games overpowered planes like the Morgan and Falken require some real effort to get, even having players play and complete multiple walkthroughs just to unlock it, not to mention the credits/money grind as well. So the way I see it, PA had to tweak or nerf these planes in AC7 because if they were to have the same power as before and have them locked behind a pay wall, it would've been absolutely scummy.
The nerf was carried over from INFINITY due to balance reasons... now why they kept that for 7 and they didnt nerf the EML is beyond me.
It's mostly a technological development thing. A giant orbital laser (or highly experimental weapon in the ADFX-02's case) is naturally going to deal more damage than the smaller lasers that most aircraft pack, and the ADFX-01 being a more "standard issue" version.
AC3 is so far ahead they've managed to recover from that drawback.

The Super planes & special weapons in AC Joint Assault were also God tier & I loved how pretty much every Super Plane was available to earn & the way they implemented aircraft upgrades/mods was so good & done right with them feeling powerful & very meaningful with a huge noticeable boost.
Ac7 had to have a that bad so they seemed like another weapon, not a super weapon.

Also, I think the placement of the TLS on the Morgan isn't great for the pilot- imagine all the radiation coming out of that thing, it would certainly give the pilot cancer
edit: one last thing- I think the "clouds blocking energy weapons" critique is actually good for balance reasons. I like being able to hide from people using energy weapons, I think they would overtake the meta and be considered overpowered if not for that mechanic. Maybe, they should have reduced damage when shot thru clouds instead of full damage negation though.
No they fcking wouldnt, the TLS does piss tier DMG, it's not even good when there is no cloud, and the range and precision needed isn't worth the rist of using It over say QAAMs or SASM, Project aces ruined the TLS.

I think the first one is like a lock on laser and the second one is a sort of one shot laser.
First laser weapon is OSL which locks onto a target, never misses and instantly destroys anything it hits.
It's an orbital satellite cannon, you unlock it once you get A rank in all mission

I say the TLS in older games acted like prototypes. The ones in AC7 were balanced and more refined, with longer irradiation time at the cost of power.
Electrosphere was where TLS based weapons got their power back.
As always AC3 takes the prize.
After the Arsenal Birds shield loses power. The laser will lock on to you and kill you if you fly far in front of it or head on with the cannon.
Well AC3 is in the future, so laser could be more powerfull than the other games

Because the physical planes with the AIs in them are still there in the real world. If you don't pay attention you can smack into the ground whilst 'in' the Electrosphere.

While yes tge TLS is nerfed from INFINITY (for some reason, multyplayer probs) the PLS is ok in my book. Heck used it more than the TLS and EML. 😶🌫️

@@TheGlassMan exactly like it makes 0 sense and im pretty sure the plsl has the old ace combat tls damage as when i was going against another player that has the plsl and it shredded me from a long range when we were both flying straight head on each other(also we traded as we both fired plsl at each other)

Actually it's the ADFX-01 vs ADFX-02, the ADFX-02 is the one with multiple SP weapons at once(TLS zoisite, ECM morganite and the MPBM), the player ver is the ADFX-01

Ace combat 7 pissed me off a little bit . I had mixed feelings. I love that they brought back stone henge and the arsenal bird is a bad ass super weapon. However, the dialog is pure BS and the special weapons are underpowered.
Why oh why did Bandai Namco have to nerf our favourite fantasy sci-fi superweapons? I used to love the TLS back in Ace Combat 5 and Zero now I only use it just to unlock any nicknames associated with it! yeah yeah I know I know they did it for multiplayer balance reasons! But why not just disallow those weapons in multiplayer? Yes I know there's a mod for increased TLS damage but we shouldn't have to rely on that.
In my view, retaining the TLS behavior would easily turn the tide in our favor even in Ace mode. For instance, defeating Mihaly or the AI ADF's would require only a flick with the TLS lol

Zero: Despite being in an experimental stage, the high energy output utterly annihilates everything.
Skies Unknown: TLS has had some changes to make it usable on stuff outside of experimental planes, but drawbacks are apparent in terms of firepower and usability. PLSL does have some of the drawbacks of the TLS, but not only can they be used more often in combat, but also carry more longevity on account of how it works.
