- We're back exploring small towns of Montana in "4K City Walks - Big Timber Montana - Small Rail Road Town - Virtual Walking Trails for Treadmill" this week. Big Timber, MT is a town of about 1600 people and lies about 35 miles east of Livingston. The highway (Interstate 90), the Railway, and the Yellowstone River all flow through. There's a small downtown with some historic buildings and the Grand Hotel and Restaurant as well as a couple other places to eat and shop. We start their and make our way over the tracks to the Yellowstone and then back through the residential area with some grand old houses. We had a bit of rain this morning but not too heavy. We hope you enjoy this walk as I take a few minutes to explain why and how I started the channel in the first place. Please feel free to put your questions in the comments below.

From Wikipedia:
Big Timber is a city in, and the county seat of Sweet Grass County, Montana, United States. The population was 1,641 at the 2010 census.
Big Timber takes its name from Big Timber Creek, which was named by William Clark because of the large cottonwood trees. The post office was established in 1880, closed, then reopened in 1882 with Ella Burns as postmaster. As a stop on the Northern Pacific Railroad, Big Timber became a major wool-shipping depot. It became the county seat in 1895. A fire in 1908 destroyed half the commercial buildings and a third of the residential homes
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.95 square miles (2.46 km2), of which, 0.92 square miles (2.38 km2) is land and 0.03 square miles (0.08 km2) is water.

Glad you enjoyed it -H
My family and grandparents lived out their years in this town. Used to visit and go to the hall downtown where people would gather and eat, play pinnacle and bridge and congregate w each other.
I remember a beautiful big park, where we had a family reunion too.
Can’t wait to go back.
My grandfather used to attend meetings at many of the buildings you passed by.
Really good feelings from this video.
Thanks!!!!

Thank you for sharing your story about starting your channel; it was interesting. “From Small Things (Big Things One Day Come)”. I laughed out loud at the “Montana Dog Walk.” That & learning about the conflict between APR and local ranchers, & access to BLM Lands was interesting & is exactly the kind of commentary about local life I really appreciate. Keep up the GREAT work, Henry.
Thanks so much Ken. All the best -H
It was a peaceful and pleasant walk. I feel refreshed after walking with you. Thank you :)

Wow, filmed only yesterday, another great walkthrough, an interesting town, always interesting to listen to your narration! As well as a walkthrough you are creating an important visual record of where you are, creating tomorrow's history!😎👍
Glad you enjoyed it -H
What a curious place, I could imagine rooting around the garden centre at 21:18. Love the weatherboard houses too at 30:57.
Yeah, it's a real mix. -H
I had to leave it just a bit early because while you are walking in the cool air, I am sweating in humidity although I am in air conditioning and have a fan directly pointed at me. I did not get to vote on the talk/no talk et al, but I like the talking. This is a pretty little town with nice neighborhoods. I like to go 'tiquing" too. I did not see anything I needed though (ha). That down town area was done very very nicely. Thank you for another fine walk.
Thanks for your wonderful comments. Keep on stepping. -H
City Walks, my fellow walker, there is simply no way to escape the sheer success of each one of your video works. I will always return in the future in order to reap benefits from the successful techniques you always employ.
Well said! -H
I love the town so much. It reminded me the summer that I spent in Greenville, South Caronila. Thanks a lot for the great walk. Glad that I can be friend with you :)

Good morning my friend

Montana super place, original American style👍
It sure is! -H
Thank you Henry for getting me through the lockdown! Next to my husband, your voice is the one I heard the most over the last few months. I found your channel in mid-March, right when I began working from home. I needed to find a way to stay active, I was walking on my lunch every day pre-lockdown, and your videos kept me engaged while working out on my elliptical. Monday, I have to go back to the office, so no more working from home. This will give me the opportunity to watch some of your shorter walks, which I intentionally haven’t watch in anticipation of having less time in the evenings, once I am commuting to work again. Thank you again, and Melinda, for keeping me active, I’ve managed to drop 15 lbs with your help over the last 3 months. I look forward to watching more videos. BTW my favorite video is your walk through Zion canyon, just beautiful. Keep talking in your videos, to many of us hearing you is keeping us sane during these crazy times.
Thanks so much for your lovely message. 15lbs!!! Wow! That's fantastic. Good for you. Stay safe at work and keep walking! -H
Awesome video .... Looks so peaceful & beautiful in big timber... What made you move 2 montana?
The lack of people and the access to nature. I've stayed because the people are real, mostly. Not a lot of image based activity. Definitely can be gritty. -H
im glad you can visit my home town
Me too. Thanks Brendan. -H
no problom@@CityWalks
I just see you did virtual walk video in london few minutes ago.

@@CityWalks Thanks!!!! I see your videos and i think, i hope one day can walk too for that street.
Lovely town.. and super quite.. must be because of the covid still
Actually, it's usually like this. Lots of ranches and not many jobs in town. It will pick up in July as tourists arrive. -H

new friend here, hope to be friends
Thanks and sure -H
In between where I stopped and finishing the end a couple of days later, I found out that Mountain View Cemetery in Big Timber in Sweet Grass County is where my brother was buried. I just remembered driving for a long time on a highway to get there. Is that the same Big Timber? Also, I thought my nephew's mother's ski lodge may have been in Whitefish, MT but my sister said the name was Red Lodge. She remarried an older man from that area.
Fascinating connection. -H

Beautiful trees! I enjoy the narration; please continue it. People can always turn the volume down if they want. And are you a native Montanan?
Thank you, I will. Not born here, no. But I love it. I moved to Montana when I was a baby then away at 7 for 15 years but I've been back since 2003. -H
6th video walk!! 👟👟👍😀
Great! Keep going! -H

*Hi Henry!* your videos are much more stable right now! Are you using a gimbal? Or is it an update of the Gopro? Thanks for sharing this good quality content. By the way, it is nice to see you walking on a rainy day.Narel TV here.
Thanks so much. I'm using a vertical axis stabilizer made for the the DJI Osmo Pocket but I've taped a GoPro 8 on it. Mainly just to keep it level. The stabilizer is made by Scotty Makes out of Australia. -H
Big Timber Creek is North of Big Timber, in the Crazy Mountains. The railroad storage building is the Wool House, where wool from the county and surrounding areas is processed and stored.
Edit: I grew up there, and watch this now when I am feeling homesick.
It's a great little town. Hard to beat small town Montana. -H
Like ❤️🎹😊✨
Thanks for listening -H
👍
Thanks -H
Henry if someone invade a abandoned house and rehabilitate it as new one what would happen?
Uh, not sure. Thanks -H
I like Montana dog walk!
Nice. Yeah, it's not special to here but it's a fun name. -H
@City Walks By the way, can I ask you when you shot these video with GoPro Hero 8, which mount do you use? Handheld shorty, chesty, head strap or else? Thanks
@@mayancho21 Hi there. I shot this on Monday. I use a Scotty Makes z-axis stabilizer that is designed for a DJI Osmo Pocket but I rubber band it on. I mainly use it to keep the camera more level. An older version of this one: scottymakesstuff.com/products/osmo-pocket-micro-4th-axis-in-case
You can find cheaper versions on Amazon too like this one that I suspect is just a knock off of the Scotty Makes version: amzn.to/3g5vtwl
. Hope that helps. -H
@@CityWalks Thank you very much, Henry. I will try it out.
🙆👍🔔👌👏👏👏
