Legends, Origins, Rayman 2 and 3 are all phenomenal and even the original is great if not a tad ridiculous. Such a shame how they left him to die.
He'll be back 😊 Someday, we'll get Rayman 4❤
@@gregorsamsa2271 we hope so :)
@@gregorsamsa2271honestly I'd rather have another legends type game
Why do you call the original ridiculous? Is it because of the difficulty?
The first was a groundbreaking game!
Ain't that the truth; they were _consistently_ smashing out some of the greatest platformers of all time and then they just... stopped?
I still remember the hype watching the first trailer for "Rayman 4" before they turned it into a party game, and wonder how the franchise would've fared in an alternate universe where that original concept got released
I love Rayman 3 for the amount of childhood nostalgia it carries. For some reason, the artistic choices for the maps, wacky plot, characters, and the repetitive intense music really stuck with me. I remember as a child, I used to really spend time admiring the design for the locations in the game.
Yes! The reason that Rayman holds such a special place in my heart is because it feels so unique. No other game franchise seems to come close to copying the style.
Land of The Livid dead always made me dreamy, loved the music and how it looked
You are right about Rayman 2. The oddness of that game was pretty unique. Probably only Tonic Trouble is the only similar game from the time. Wish they brought the weirdness back.
True. I heard Tonic Trouble was kind of a test for Ubisoft to see if a game like Rayman 2 would be possible. So that’s why they are so similar i guess 💪🏽
Oh man tonic trouble brings back a lot of memories. I think I had a CD with a beta on it which was better than the final game
@@frujoxp There's no evidence to support that claim if it's actually 100% factual.
@@Laynel8Tonic Trouble *was* a tech demo for Rayman 2 and it ended up getting it completed and published. It's an ok game, 6/10, I beat it last year.
@@64-Bit-Gamer But what I'm asking was Tonic Trouble created as a tech demo for Rayman 2's engine? Like is there multiple articles online that back this claim up or did you get it from a fan wiki? If you're getting this information from a fan wiki, then I wouldn't trust it, since they normally just jump to conclusions and they don't cite their sources.
Rayman Legends was so damn good the time trials and daily weekly challenges were intense and you could see ghosts of the other players to see if you’re going fast enough there’s a technique to go optimal speed using punch or something I need to download it again
Rayman 3 was the only Rayman game I properly played and it was awesome. It reminded me of another platformer I liked called Evil Twin: Cyprien's Chronicles. Tried playing Rayman 2 after but I couldn't get into it.
I like Rayman 2 and Rayman 3 Hoodlum Havoc Rayman 3 Hoodlum Havoc is my most favorite of The Rayman Series.
He needs remastered versions of his games including Rayman 3 Hoodlum Havoc.
You should try Rayman 3 for the GBA if you like 2D Rayman. It's actually pretty good, though I've yet to beat it myself. And it's a completely unique game that only has a few things in common with the actual Rayman 3. Despite the name, it's more like a 2D version of Rayman 2.
Also Rayman Raving Rabbids for the GBA. It’s the only RRR game that’s a traditional platformer instead of a minigame compilation, and so the only RRR that doesn’t suck.
Facts, I was about to comment this exactly. I actually just beat it last night, super fun and challenging. It feels like a direct continuation of Rayman 1. Also if you enjoyed that game you should check out Raving Rabbids on GBA! It's another 2D platformer, same mechanics as Rayman 3 GBA and pretty much entirely unrelated to the other Rabbids games
I think it was originally supposed to be a companion game to the unreleased Rayman 4 which is why it doesn't follow the Rabbids formula
Yes, finally! I was looking for this comment
Wow the nostalgia with ray man 2!!! Just sitting here trying to remember what title that was that I played so much back then. And here it is number one on the list haha let’s go!!
Always felt like Astal on the Saturn was kinda inspired by Rayman far as how the level designs were and the color patterns to a degree but it’s kinda hard to top Rayman I mean at the time the graphics were insane.
The rayman brain games actually taught me a lot of early english, the game looked pretty good and were fun to play
Origins was my first rayman and it was freaking awesome, I’m going back and playing and 100% them on Xbox with backwards compatibility now
I'd be interested seeing you rank the Starfox games. Rayman and Starfox are the two most overlooked series, and happen to be my two favorites.
Completed Rayman 2 recently on ps1,to make sure I did beat it when I was a kid, because I kept getting flashbacks of 3rd boss fight not knowing if it was a dream or a faint memory 😂
Are you familiar with Rayman Gold/Rayman by his Fans? I know it's not really a "story" game and it's more of a level-pack, but it was from Ubi Soft and it actually has some mechanics unique to it that were not in the first game and kind of set it apart as its own unique thing, so I feel like it should have been mentioned - especially if the educational one was.
Rayman Legends has the best gameplay, Rayman 2 has the best plot and atmosphere. It has a lot of soul.
All my memories of playing Rayman 2 on my N64 as a kid came back. It was a great experience (although, as a child, some dificult parts made me angry)
I loved many rayman games as a kid but honestly that worst one was so good to me as a kid as it counted as school work when I was like 6-8 not sure how old but it was so refreshing to play a game for learning rather than game then have to study
Rayman 2 for sure so memorable and advanced for it’s time. Also some love for EARTHWORM JIM and Super Mario games Awesome old games nothing comes close these days.
This might be because I grew up with the Playstation version, but I'm actually surprised to see Rayman 2 first as it was my least favorite. That being said I did recently play the GOG version which really showed me what I was missing out on all these years and how dumbed down that game was on PS.
That being said... still doesn't quite move it up.
I realize it might be hard to do, but I recently realized how the 2D Raymans have their set of gimmicky worlds and environments like Band Land and Picture City, as well as in Origins/Legends - while the 3D ones have a more consistent nature environment. What I'd like to see is a 3D Rayman with gimmicks like the former.
i love rayman 3d so much like it’s actually so good, it was my first rayman ever and is so funny like im actually 17 and im having fun on this game. thanks for this really good video btw
The RL soundtrack is also _legendary._ I've transcribed quite a number of the tracks if anyone's interested in reading sheet music, especially a few piano arrangements.
Never played any rayman games. didnt even know rayman was in 3d until now. so, im excited to start playing my first rayman game, rayman brain games 😎
I wish they would remake/remaster the original Rayman, it’s just perfection
@skankhunt4215This, I was literally researching just the other day if there was a possibility of this happening

9:49 the game isn’t Rayman’s origin story, it’s called origins because it’s going back to 2D platformers which are the roots of the series, thus the origins
In rayman legends you could also unlock tons - TONS of characters. By far the best 2d game ever made
Wonder has some Legends vibes, this game is the goat for being so ahead of its time
Ubisoft's current mascot is a soulless void, to represent the games they make!
Nice vid, btw!
games like ray man 2, the legend of zelda ocarina of time, mario 64, and aiden cronicals the first mage really blew my mind with how massive they felt even on such a limited game like the nintendo 64, which i only realized in hindsight since as a kid i was experiancing that new world of 3d for the first time, and a lot shocked me. i still remember all my firsts, my firts game ever was sonic the hedgehog 2 on sega genisus, it was like playing a cartoon. then games like mario 64 banjo kazooie and zelda on the 64 showed me the worlds id imagined up to that point but then games like star fox adventures, and fable 1, truly showed me theres no limit except time, seeing the individual blades of grass, and leaves on tress blow in the wind was eye opening to the potential of games... i knew then that there was no limit, and in the decades that followed i saw the evolution of the term photo real from a humble start with projects like the spirits within, and now every game has in game graphics surpassing that level... to the point where reality has started to pale in comparesince to the lush colorful and flawlessly detailed worlds being created with games like red dead redemption 2, and god of war ragnerock... if there is an end to gamings advancment... i dont think ill live long enough to see it!.
Hoodlum Havoc was a HELL of a rental from Hollywood Video
The demake for rayman area was on the gamecube. The PS2 one was the full featured one
I only clicked on the Video to check if Rayman 2 is #1. Approved!
100% agree with what you said about rayman legends and donkey kong tropical freeze being some of the best 2d platformers ever made
I’m glad rayman 2 is on the top of the list since I grew up loving this game and it’s great seeing others love it too
All I know is Rayman 3 is the best game in the series.
Me too and the first 2 are not far behind.
Ehh, it’s overrated imo

BTW from where I'm from, Rayman 3 was so ingeniously localized, it was way more loved than in any other place in the world. Seriously the dub is way better than the English one, hence the game has way better atmosphere.
Dubbing in R3 (Polish ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ) makes this game a masterpiece.
Prawda, polski dubbing Raymana 3 był genialny. Możnabyło się dużo pośmiać kiedy uwalniało się "Teensinów" z klatek :D

Rayman legends is 10x better then 1
actually, I didn't really like origin and legend. I agree the dinamysm of the world is great, but the ennemies where pretty lame (bosses included). I also remember I always was desapointed by the endings. they just never fealt right (This is also a problem I had with Rayman one, but thank you rayman redemption, you corrected that).
Talking about Rayman one, I know people are really mixed about it. Some call it a master peace while some complaines about some crappy design. For my part, I feel like it's a master peace with crappy design , I had a lot of fun but I agree with the complains. I really liked redemption for that. Plus it corrected the story a little being the weak point of the game
Rayman 3 is probably my Secound favourite Rayman since it has a lot of cool actions, fun plateforming, variety in the levels and cool music but ... like for the 3 other games I've mentionned so far, the story line is messed up. It was supposed to be the end of the world and a world domination but it just feels like we put ennemies on your way to see the doctor and then we remember about the world domination.
Howaver, Rayman 2 was really great (mostly the revolution version), this one was probably one of the best game in mixing the adventurous part with a solide story line. the landscape and the challenges are rich and diversified, the music is greate, and like I said, you feel the real impact of the pirates.
I think the real point is that in rayman 2 is the only game where you are helped by NPC's who also suffer the crises: Ly is sealed, Clark is gravely injured, Globox and a lot of other friends are emprissoned and help you once you save them. I feel less lonely than in the other games.
I strongly disagree with Legends being better then Origins. I think Origins is overall the better game as its very focused on being a 2D platformer with no game altering gimmicks which makes for a consistently great experience with really great and creative level design. Legends on the other hand is a bit bogged down with gimmicks that where designed for the Wii U and as someone who's played both the original Wii U game and the other console ports the biggest difference is theres a bit less of it on the other ports because all you do is press a button for murphy to do a thing which is less involved then the Wii U version. This also has the knock on effect of having the game end right when it was getting challenging which left me unsatisfied and I don't like to include the Origins levels in Legends because its literally the same levels but in an artstyle I personally think is inferior to the original. Origins was great because after the halfway point you had all of your abilities and the second half of the game has levels that test you with each world's central gimmicks and Legends doesn't really do the same thing except for the water world with the spy themes that was genuinely one of the best parts of that game because every level built from what came before in some way. As for the music levels they don't impress me that much because I've played the bit trip runner games which came out before this game did so it didn't have the novelty factor that had on other people.
Overall Legends is still a fantastic game that people should play but I find it to be a tad overrated compared to Origins and don't see many talking about Origins much which is disheartening for me. Good video and generally good list despite my feelings towards that one aspect of the list!
I agree, Legends has a lot of content and it kind of makes it overwhelming, while origins has less content but its more fine tuned
The gbc rayman game is similar to the ps1 version however you don't need to unlock the final boss (meaning you can skip all the cages and can still finish it) however there is 1 drawback... you save with a password system.
So close to beating the original, even that 3d animation at the start was impressive on a gameboy color. But that save system....
Rayman 3 was my SHIT back in the day. But Rayman legends is the best. The way it looks and plays, the multiplayer option and the nod to the og rayman is just perfect
Played Rayman 2 on the 64. Have to agree that it is still one of the best, as I frequently come back to play it. The atmosphere and levels are phenomenal.
I've only played Rayman Legends.
I really liked it, even though I haven't finished it yet.
I wouldn't mind a Rayman game collection.
Rayman 2 on Dreamcast blew me away
its really rare to find someone who reviews rayman games these days, thx for this great video,
btw what do you think is the best way to play rayman 2?
Rayman Revolution for sure.
Rayman Origins is my favorite game in the franchise.
It looks gorgeous, has the best controls in any platformer I’ve played (aside from Legends), has an excellent soundtrack, beautiful level design, a good difficulty curve, unique level themes, plenty of content, fun multiplayer, and the Xbox 360 version is only 15 bucks!
My favourite is legends or origins the graphics are great, I love the art style and also I love the 2d Rayman games I think they are much better than the 3d games and also they fast paced and the land of the livid dead and tricky treasures in origins and the music levels in legends are great and I think they are a great difficulty as well as king foot is great with friends and also it is just so incredibly fun and I still play both
I played a PS2 remake of Rayman 2 called “Rayman Revolution”, that’s my favourite one.
Unpopular Opinion: I think Rayman: Revolution is the best Rayman game next to Rayman 3! So many QoL improvements made to RR and the hub area made the world feel interconnected and believable.
What about jungle run and fiesta run?
Wish Rayman 3 was playable for ps4
Among what I have played, order is pretty much the same, except I would rate Rayman Legends as the best one. I don't remember Rayman 2 that fondly. But it is a good game with great villain and all, but Legends was better in overall gameplay. I do hate the amount of stuff you have to do for the platinum, but this is absolutely my favorite Rayman game.
First Rayman, the worst of what I have played and easily, for one reason; It is way too difficult and you have 100% it to fight Mr. Dark.
My own list:
9. Hoodlums Revenge (GBA)
The only one I haven't played, but looks pretty bad from this footage.
8. Brain Games (PSX)
Ignore the label of edutainment, it plays like Rayman 1 too much. No, the problem is that this version, unlike the PC, goofed on the hitboxes, making it far harder (and in cases impossible) to avoid damage.
7. Arena (PS2)
Essentially a pack of speedrun challenges for Rayman 2. No better or worse than that sounds.
6. Hoodlum Havoc (GBA)
This is NOT the earlier THE game, not the PS2 version. THIS is a game with 1's game style, 2's story style, and just enough of 3's elements to justify the name. Controls are decent, but not in the level of the remaining games.
5. Hoodlum Havoc (PS2)
As a casual game, this is perfectly fine, but the completion aspect is... well, it simply fails to feel like you've mastered it. One can easily reach all the score goals without really perfecting any of the levels.
4. Origins (Wii)
Can drag at points, but pretty well-made all around.
3. Legends (PS3)
Contains most of Origins as unlockables, and has good levels of its own... but speedruns are no longer rewarded, and the Challenges section is no longer working. Since that is required for max Awesomeness, you technically cannot complete the game anymore... not that you're missing much.
Now, deciding between 1 and 2 is odd, since each has a "deluxe remake" (though 1's is a fangame).
The original of each has 2 on top, both remakes improved their base, but 1's remake is much better. In other words, 1 is better if a fan remake counts, but 2 is otherwise. Both are a cut above the rest though.
My Favorite Rayman Games:
Rayman 2 Revolution/The Great Escape (PS2/Dreamcast)
Rayman Legends (Switch/PS4)
Rayman 3 Hoodlum Havoc (PS3Xbox 360)
Rayman Origins (Xbox 360)
😃
Rayman 1 is also on Sega Saturn for a deep cut
Rayman 2 vibes are alike Tim Burtons Classic movies
Rayman 3 and origins for me
Rayman M/Arena was awesome!
Rayman 3 forever in my hearth
I only played rayman 2 and 3 a couple of years back and they are decent games. I don’t have the nostalgia for it like most do so probably why it didn’t click as much for me.
But Origins and Legends, my god they are some of the best 2D platformers I’ve ever played. Up there with best of the best for me
Ray man in gba the collection version has both the first one from ps1
There’s kinda one thing that you missed on why brain games is the worst of the worst when it comes to Rayman
The level design is surprisingly sadistic and unfair for an educational game, I’d argue it’s even worse the standard rayman 1
What version of Rayman 2 is it? I played PS 1 version and its different
What about rayman 3 on the GBA??
I played the original Rayman as a kid. Got to the music levels and... yeah, I'm not beating that at 6-7 years old. I loved it, and loved Rayman ever since. And I love Assassin's Creed, decently like R6, but man... Ubisoft... Rayman is such a gem. Please... please go back to your roots with not just Rayman but Assassin's Creed, too. You don't have to be known as the crappy company that releases buggy, unfinished games... you used to have so much charm and care in your levels, music (Assassin's Creed 2 OST is out of this WORLD, same for Rayman Origins!), and it's just sad to see how lazy they've become. I hope Rayman finds a new home or Ubisoft get it together...
On another youtube channel they said they could not connect the polygons from hands and neck, so it was invincible, such rayman was Born, how come ? Raymen 1 platformer was first ?
Rayman 2 on Dreamcast is the best in the series. Origins and Legends round out the top 3 best games.
wtf I loved learning games with Rayman
Unpopular opinion: I think 3 is actually the best Rayman game. 2 is very very close though.

It’s just a shame that Ubisoft moved away from 3D Rayman, because if nothing else I’d LOVE for that game to get a remaster. Or just release the HD version on PS5 already!
Rayman Arena is goated
You totally hit the nail on the head with why Rayman 2 is the best. One of my favorite aspects of the game is the use of gibberish language in the cut scenes which add to the strange, whimsical atmosphere. The game is also SPOOOKY. I had nightmares about the Cave of Bad Dreams and the cave hands snatching me up. The aesthetic achievement of Rayman 2 is precisely why Rayman 3 is actually a shitty game.
I was so disappointed being constantly bombarded with shitty humor one-liners from Murphy, which even as an 8-9 year old, I could tell I was being pandered to. Some dipshit in a Ubisoft boardroom destroyed Rayman 3 in an attempt to market to kids. The introduction of English voice-acting (and god awful dialogue) instead of the mystical gibberish used in the Great Escape deflated the entire vibe of the game, and regardless of good mechanics, etc. made me feel gross and betrayed. Its insulting voice acting also destroys any replay value of the game. Who, in the year 2023 Anno Domini, wants to hear stupid aughts pop-cultural references blared into your ears when you're just trying to collect some fucking lums. Rayman 3 is a mockery of the universe that made such an impact on my little kid brain.
I also disagree with your ranking of Rayman Arena, which was one of my favorite childhood games. First, this is the only game (which you correctly noted) using the same aesthetics as Rayman 2. However, this game absolutely was not meant to be played singleplayer. I imagine the game would not be very good if you played alone, but this is a party game. I only had a PS2 as a young kid, so we had no other party games (i.e. Melee, Fusion Frenzy, Mario Party, Double-Dash). For its time, having a FFA battle mode and racing mode gave you a lot to work with, and even more if you liked the combat of Rayman 2. I'm pretty sure I bought the PS2 Multitap specifically for Rayman Arena, and playing 4-player with my neighbors and brother, or having a sleepover tournament are some of my best childhood memories. I guess Rayman Arena is really a "you had to be there" game.
Rayman arena is a masterpiece idgaf, ill always love that game
I jst love the detail and jokes in Rayman 3. For example if you hit globox a few times he sometimes says "Quit it! The manual says you're my best friend!" I hit him on accident the first time and it came out of nowhere and I still think this is one of the funniest things in a game ever.
I love Rayman 3 so much, I probably played through it like 50 times by now.
This year I finally played through Rayman 2 and as weird as it was, expecting something similar as Rayman 3, it was it's own unique experience with interesting strategies and techniques to use.
Sometimes I felt like Rayman 3 improved alot on the gameplay of Rayman 2 but sometimes it also felt better than 3.
As people already pointed out, it's probably dependend on what game you played first as a child.
righttttt right
I feel like the world building and story is better in 2 but combat is better in 3

Me too. And I remember that for like one year, I couldn't beat the level where you ride on the purple peach on lava. Once I beat it, I was so overwhelmed, and the finale was also nerve wrecking. All the characters had personalities and it was really enjoyable
Agree with you 100%. Rayman 2 is the legend of them all.
0:42 the new icon of Ubisoft is a dollar sign
2 things worth mentioning:
1. In rayman 3, you get to ride your shoe as a race car vs the other shoe. Can't get much better than that.
2. Rayman Legends would be 10/10 just for the first music map, featuring the song Ram Jam - Black Betty, but they also put an entire video game there too, entirely for free. Now thats a bargain.
Frr bro, I've always loved that they put this song in Rayman Legends and the level was so good too. I played the demo, and this is what made me want to play the full game
and also, everytime i hear this song now i always think of this level from Rayman Legends ahah 😆🔥
Fun fact: Rayman Origins was actually going to be about how Rayman and his adventures came to be (his creation is even described in a guide book), but the idea was scrapped for whatever reason.
