  • There are a lot of great videos and other resources about how to properly gunfight in the air. Many are hard to apply for new players. These 6 tips are practical things I've picked up over the past few years and should be easier to apply.

    Thank you. As a new player struggling to learn to dogfight in the F-5E, this is the most on-my-level video I've found on the subject. And it was very encouraging. I appreciate that.

    One really flashy but almost useless move I have learned is that if they are on your tail full throttle up stall watch them fly by you also going up and then just do a fancy spin and run away lol

    Flanker training that’s a blast from the past helpful concepts there. Great basic tutorial thanks.

      Yeah, for the first 6 months of my DCS fighter experience I got all of my good information from Ironhand/Flankertraining. He personally answered some questions for me on the forums and did it with a lot of patience and respect. I have nothing but good things to say about him and his content. Thanks!

    Great video. These are some great starter tips. The only thing I would add is in the gunning portion of the video in the F-16 you need to tms up or right to get rid of the “No Rad” so you can get a lock and ballistic solution. Also that the aiming point is the line going across the “net”. This took me forever to figure out 😂.

    • @311Gryphon
      @311Gryphon  Рік тому

      I was a little confused about the aim point on the Viper at first. I could get close but I think I was using the wrong indicator.

    I’m not even a new player but this was very helpful for some things I need to keep in mind: primarily patience and trust my plane. I still pull too hard and that one is important because it’s such a hard habit to break. Only a couple weeks ago I found myself not doing it for the first time I was aware of and it really paid off. The shorter burst thing is something I think this video has made me aware of so I’m going to have to watch that as well.

    • @311Gryphon
      @311Gryphon  2 роки тому

      I think most of us have an instinct to pull really hard, as if we can will the plane to break the laws of physics. It's so hard to break that habit. I'm glad this was helpful. I don't know that I'll ever be a great virtual pilot but maybe I can fail forward a bit. LOL.

    you reverse to force a one circule or two circle fight, specially for the F-16 in a dog fight we have to force a one circule fight

    • @311Gryphon
      @311Gryphon  2 роки тому

      True. You still have to be careful with the timing I think. A poorly timed reversal is a death sentence.

    I've used the Cobra in combat a grand total of twice..... It didn't end well for me either time.

      I have to give you credit for trying it. I've never had the mental capacity to even think about it when I'm trying to turn with someone.

      When doing ground attack in the su33, ive been using cobras to get a better alignment to targets when doing banking Strafes It has been working pretty well for me. I can see how if you bleed too much speed on the targets, you can be shot down, but i haven’t been punished enough while doing it to think its a bad maneuver

    • @311Gryphon
      @311Gryphon  2 роки тому +1

      @@Exandria So you're doing a Cobra Turn? I assume so if you're not perfectly vertical. Is it just so you can turn sharply and get around on target faster for subsequent passes? If so I can kind of see that as an option. If it's your first pass you'd be better off taking the time to come in on a vector closer to your intended attack. But having said that, however you want to fly to get the best bang for your buck works for me. That's what I love about this game.

      @@311Gryphon thats exactly what im doing! ive been doing cobras but not bleeding all my speed. hypermaneuverability seems to be super useful in getting snapshots in inopportune strafes or to get a massive edge on the dive bombing!

      In the F-16C there's an HMD knob just in front of the throttle. Rotate that clockwise to turn it on and adjust brightness.

      1) left panel near throttle you see HMCS max it out 2) get into dogfight mode 3) click tms up and you will get that circle

    Just pop the speed brakes and pull the stick hard. It works in Top Gun so I don't see why it wouldn't work in simulators.

      @311Gryphon  Рік тому

      That's not a bad idea. That way you can practice but then still have some fun after you've given it a go. And employing AIM-9s takes a certain skill as well so you're still practicing. Another note, it seems they've cranked up the AI again recently. Last time I tried to dogfight I got owned and I'm not sure why. It was almost like the AI was even less interested in real world physics than they had been.
