@@charleschudley4661 I watched it enjoying it for the fact that it was only five episodes but I'm also concurrently watching the 2002 series. I'm hoping they just made He-Man take the l so that he could come back stronger in the second season this show actually made me like orko more. The only thing I wanted was more He-Man. I think the press about it where Kevin Smith insisted it was 100% a he man show, watching it and having him be there for like 15 whole minutes that's the only part that I have a problem with but maybe that was just for the first batch fingers crossed

@@charleschudley4661 yeah since my comment I watched it the day after. I don't think it was bad at all like I said I just wanted more He-Man because the show is supposed to be about He-Man. I really didn't like how it was marketed because he's barely in there. It was still an enjoyable watch to me anyway but I'm hoping with the next five episodes there's a lot more He-Man. The way they ended it too it's like are you kidding me now we have to wait he's finally back in the game and we have to wait.
Reviewers have already made it clear that this show is a bait & switch. He-man is put into the background so that Teela & her girfriend will be the main hero instead. Kevin Smith admits they're killing off Orko for shock value. They race swapped King Grayskull because they thought there were too many buff blonde dudes...why even make a classic show if you hate it so much you want to change everything about it? Show runner Kevin Smith claims to be a super of the series but has been exposed to have said in the past he wasn't a fan & has no love for the character. These people have no love for the franchise or the fans.
Voice actors did a fine job, it's the scripts that were awful.
Wait, isn't the show called Teela and the Mistresses of the Universe?
Shame He-Man wasn't in the new show.

Hmm....strangely enough Bonnie and Kai are now well known for playing a rebooted cartoon characters from the 80s. That every fanboys love and hate. Except when the tradegy strike when Kai went down unsuccessfully and Bonnie has been a success.

you dont need to know the origins of he-man for this show, he isnt even in it much. watch 15 minutes of the first episode. there you got it, great show. everything after that is just an insult to the fans.
It's like watching first episode saying... What.... No way... You must be kidding... This must be the wrong show... And it gets worse and worse by every episode. What happened to HE-MAN... Grew up with HE-MAN in the 80s... Was curious to see what's coming up... Being completely disappointed after half of episode one... but took it till the end... Just one word... Sad.

Well this show's not called "He-man and the Masters of the Universe", it's simply "Masters of the Universe". Obviously it won't be like the series I grew up with in the 80s, but this will be something different and I can respect that. My kids and I enjoyed that recent She-Ra reboot. It was also completely different from the one I grew up watching, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. If ever I wanna reminisce, I can always go back and watch the originals.

In the original show It is revealed that Adams Mom does know he is He-man. I think it’s in ‘The Rainbow Warrior’ episode at the end.

Mon el, was actually Lar gand , his ship crashed on earth and had short term amnesia so super.boy seeing his powers though he had to be a cousin of his and named him Mon el, later his memory returned and remembered his name was Lar Gand

@@dirceusantos7308 I always thought it should be obvious for her. She's from Earth, the whole super hero secret identity concept is pretty ingrained into popular culture. I always imagined that when Adam wanted to hear tales of Earth as a child, she would tell him about super heroes, thus ingraining the concept with him.

Can we talk about the fact that FINALLY Price Adam is this little skinny guy who gets super buff when turning into HeMan? I always hated in the orginal series that Adam was literally just as buff, and looked the exact same as HeMan, just with clothes on. How did NO ONE figure it out.

Um, no. That differentiation originated from the 2002 reboot of Masters of the Universe. In the pilot episode of the tie-in cartoon series that was produced by Mike Young Productions, we see Prince Adam being told of his destiny to wield the Sword of Power to transform into He-Man by the Sorceress of Castle Grayskull... on his 16th birthday. He was visually portrayed as an average-built teenaged boy who, upon invoking the power, is transformed into a larger, older version of himself (much like the DC Comics character SHAZAM!).
@David Blyth you know, that is a very interesting theory. Teela was no dummy! She had to have been quite intelligent and capable in order to be the Captain of the Royal Guards of Eternos. Personally, I believe that if she ever had a quiet suspicion as to Adam's dual identity... that it had to have been cemented by the sudden appearance of She-Ra when she accompanied He-Man to Snake Mountain to rescue the Princess Adora.

What a trip down memory lane
2:14 By accident. Cringer didn't know about Adams secret identity until he found out during one of the many crises that he man is needed to put down. Adam had just completed the transformation, was startled by cringer and accidentally blasted him with residual energy from the sword and he became battle cat for the first time.
I am watching this as soon as it drops. I will keep my expectations low and just roll with it. I have to support this...it's what I grew up with and cherish.

Things that make me worry:
You don't know how many TV shows there were and they sent you out to hype the show? Ugh.
Queen Marlena DID in FACT know Adam was He-Man. In one episode she told him "a mother knows these things" and told him that while others don't know... she was proud of him.
Told me to go watch the show and I got excited.... looked at the day and clearly Netflix released this too soon.
Things that make me hope:
Nostalgia.
Ignoring the overly reactionary people who are rightly worries.. yet too pessimistic.
(NO, Teela is NOT going to be He-Man. She's the next Sorceress. That's cannon)
I see the connection between Teela and the sorceress too and I have my hunch about why it exists, but I don't want to spoil it for anyone. All they've got to do is watch the episode about Subeternia😏.

The rights when it comes to Masters of the Universe have kind of been a clusterfuck for some time which means different sects and brands in the overall franchise are okay to use in some sects while others may not be legally allowed in T.V. shows or movies. In this reboot it's actually a spiritual successor to the original rather than a full on sequel. IE the events of the original will be implied and visible, but it's not one-hundred percent part of the original because of legal issues. This reboot is basing the designs more off of the original toys (the action figure line came before the show premiered) than the 80's cartoon which changed some things. That's why you see the H emblem instead of the Iron Cross. Same thing happened in the 2002 reboot on Toonami. Legal issues regarding the trademark are also why the movie has been in production hell for over a decade and why the She-Ra reboot wasn't allowed to crossover with He-Man or other more specific stuff seen in Castle Greyskull, etc.
@@pacman5698 Hmmm... I think you have some of this right. Yes, Revelation is a spiritual successor to the 80s era (and some say, the Filmation show). The toy rights are owned by Mattel, and the Filmation show rights (including She-Ra) are with Universal. Mattel has been trying to change the emblem for a very long time, including the original toys and 200x reboot, but not because of rights, but because the iron cross has other associations. The movie has been in production in hell for a very long time, not because of the rights, but because the studio and Mattel can't agree on a direction; although, a writer of an early script was chewed out for including She-Ra because she's under a different set of rights. Yes, that is why Netflix's She-Ra reboot could not reference He-Man.
@@ehenyor I am fully aware of the new meaning the Iron Cross has, but even then from what little I've been able to find, word is other characters actually look more similar to their original toyline and less like the Filmation crew because of issues regarding using the likeness of the original show vs. what they can do what the toys. Even Skeletor looks noticeably different from his original more tame design in the 80's ontop of other creative changes. Also, while it is true that it's mostly creative differences regarding Sony now, a lot of this came about because Warner Brothers and Sony swapped and actually had discussions regarding the rights to the property. Scripts had to be thrown at as a result. Eventually, Sony won. Which also means that it's quite possible that unless everybody involved can clear everything, Sony, Netflix, and Universal, then 2018 She-Ra and Revelation He-Man won't be able to cross together even if Kevin Smith and Noelle Stevenson want to do something together. With that being said, in 2019 Stevenson did say she wouldn't mind doing a new He-Man/She-Ra Christmas special with Smith's He-Man reboot.
@@pacman5698 She did say that. I can also share that Dean Stefan (RIP) told me that She-Ra was never in the cards for 200x; although he wasn't sure why, it was likely due to rights. This was disappointing to hear considering that I thought there were She-Ra hints peppered throughout, including a scene with Marlena telling Orko that he arrived when the family was experiencing sadness. I assumed this was losing Adora.

@@thev5546I'll reserve judgement until actually seeing it. I'm not particularly concerned about the character ratio. The original series had full episodes dedicated to all kinds of characters, including Teela. If it's worth my time, i'll enjoy it. If it's not, i'll do something else besides bitching and moaning about a cartoon.

Seriously cannot wait for this new movie! I absolutely loved the original show growing up as a kid as well as the original she-ra show too. But the new reboot show from dreamworks was very good as well.
I'm willing to bet good money that Wood didn't watch the original show either and somebody just gave him a quick synopsis like he just did.
