    Thank you very much for uploading this video. It was very informative and helpful to understand the requirement of PWHT. Can you also post a video in which can be shown, the effects of PWHT on the microstructure of the base and weld metal, especially the effect of PWHT on the Residual Stress? This would help in visualization of the process and its effects.

    Good video. And nice explanation

    We make CA6NM castings and while performing NDT test on finish machined casting if some minor defects are found of the size 5mm x 3mm x 2mm , we generally grind them out and weld them using same metal's electrode, basically we do a temper bead welding. I need to know if PWHT is required in that case or not ? Answer is no but i need some evidences , i have read asme code 9 , but unable to find the prrof. can you help ?

    Is the haz considered part of the base metal or is there a code specific area which is 'part' of the base metal but measured from a certain point

    • @weldinginspection7239
      @weldinginspection7239  4 роки тому

      Hello Buddy
      HAZ is nothing but the heat affected zone based on the heat transfer from the hot weld metal to less hot base metal.
      because of the conduction heat transfer between the different lyres of the metal , grain structure changes
      so answering your question in brief: it is the part of the base metal only. and it changes based on the heat input and also based on the thickness of the base metal.
      it is not part of any code
      simply: more heat you put: more heat affected zone and less heat you put less heat affected zone.
      for the welding of an alloy steel: sometimes we do not give enough time to cool down for the heat affected zone and because of that hardness changes of that area. that is why HAZ for alloy steel is important in terms of proper cooling down..
      let me know if you have more questions

      @weldinginspection7239  4 роки тому

      Hello , If I understand your question correct then you want to know the general rule if you want to post heat low carbon steel (p1)
      example: if you refer iron carbon diagram: for 0.8% of carbon. you have to heat it to 728 C to austenic range. thenslowy cool that to disolve the carbon

    Sir, minimum how much thickness does it require for preheat or pwht?

    • @weldinginspection7239
      @weldinginspection7239  4 роки тому +1

      it depends on the code and type of metal.
      for example for low carbon steel anything more than 1.5" requires pre heat
      if you have any specific case: I can explain based on that

      well, for critically post weld heat treated parts not possible because cooling shall be slow and uniform. and it will be tough to hold certain temp with the torch

    Can dpt be done after pwht? And if there comes delayed stresses or cracks then welding is going to be done again? And again we have to do pwht?

    • @weldinginspection7239
      @weldinginspection7239  4 роки тому +1

      Hello Hasan Azam, DPT shall be done after PWHT once the metal reach to the ambient temperature. some metals like A514 shows delay cracking, in this case code specifies which metals/welding shall be tested after 24 to 48 hours.

      @@weldinginspection7239 what will happen to 25 mm plate, if 25 mm thick plate and 60 mm thick plate soaked (pwht) simultaneously in furnace according to 60mm plate requirement

    • @weldinginspection7239
      @weldinginspection7239  4 роки тому +1

      @@Ajin0077 good questions : heat transfer works based on the conduction heat transfer phenomenon , so it does not over heat or over soaked: hear transfer happens uniformly per cross section of both plates. so you can say more length will be heated for 25 mm plates vs 60 mm plate.
      if you review iron carbon phase diagram: there is a large temperature range for the heating condition which will cover both metal thickness under same phase.
      also , design/welding engineer do consider this fact and provide heating requirement according to the thickness.
