  • There is a Japanese Silk Road in Japan. Unknown, that's why I would like to introduce it.
After "the opening of the country" to the world at the end of the Edo period (1603-1867) and after the Meiji Restoration, the textile industry flourished. Hachioji developed around an inn town that had existed since the Edo period . The raw silk and silk fabrics were not only produced in the town, but also came from Gunma, Chichibu, Yamanashi and Nagano prefectures. Hachioji served as a transit point for transporting goods to Yokohama port for export. "The Kanagawa Oukan" 神奈川往還, which connected Hachioji and Yokohama, was later called the “Silk Road” by researchers of folk and local history. The Silk Road Museum tells the history of this route.
