To explain the confusion regarding the meteorological opposites this does happen here in Scotland, the joke was about the unpredictability of Scottish weather.
I always remember Stephen Fry pointing out the strange British habit of talking about hot weather in summer in Fahrenheit and cold weather in winter in centigrade. So then it's "My God it must be in the nineties today" or "Oh it's so cold it must be minus five" Just another quirky British way of looking at things😀
I agree with Squirrel tho, I always thought it made zero sense to make it snow at the end. Ford Kiernan and Greg Hemphill totally missed a trick here, both of them would be well accustomed to the fact that its constantly raining in Scotland, it's so confusing why they chose not use that stereotype to their advantage. It just makes so much sense and would have came off as a much more believable and better punchline.
It’s true Squirrel we do often get bizarre weather in Scotland. I have a photograph of my 10th birthday . I’m on a swing and it’s snowing….. My birthday is in June! 😂👏🐿🏴
The most common measurement of temperature in Scotland & the U.K. is celsius but on an occasion the weather forecaster will also drop in the temperature in fahrenheit . I’m 54 and our generation grew up with fahrenheit before they started to change it to celsius to match up with the rest of the EU but like most my age we can still use both scales of measurement but the U.K. still uses a lot of the old imperial system like MPH , MPG(miles per gallon) even though our petrol stations are per litre , feet & inches , stones & pounds etc . Even in my work in Rolls Royce we build aero engines and we still use the imperial system of measurement like a thou(thousand of an inch) 👍🏻
You need to watch that again the guy on the TV says its the coldest front since 1972 -12 in most parts of Scotland he doesn't say Celsius or Fahrenheit ....
This is 20 years old, and they're supposed to be 75. Temperature was one of the hold overs. Hasn't lasted as long as pints, for some things, feet and inches for height, or miles in general. Yes we do use Celsius now for everything in daily life. I think TV weather had changed over by the time this was filmed though.
Two factors at play with the temperature here. Firsty, our tendancy to express hot weather in Farenheit. Secondly, up until about the mid seventies, we more commonly used Farenheit before switching to using Centigrade, but older people are more used to using Farenheit.
It's quite simple to know when to use metric and imperial in the UK: •°Celsius for low temperatures and °Farenheit for high temperatures. •Litres for paint and petrol, pints for milk and beer. • Grams and kilograms for objects, pounds and stones for people. • Metres for the height of mountains, feet for the height of structures. • Kilometres for the distance you ran and miles for the distance you drove. Except when we decide to make an exception
I can remember we got snow in the middle of May one year over the weekend. It was gone by the Monday ~ lovely sunshine and around 15 degC . Yes we do use Celcius in Scotland and have done for umm.. 50+ years. I think quite a few North Americanisms come from Greg's writing eg gurney for trolley etc. However it all adds to the fun. Thanks again for another great video. Always worth the wait 😊
Even though the UK went metric upon joining the EEC, we've never gone fully over. We still measure distance in Miles and speed in Miles per Hour and drink Beer in Pints. Old people like pensioners Jack and Victor still think wholly in Fahrenheit
My brother appeared in many episodes of Still Game, as well as Rab C. Nesbitt, as an extra. He never had a talking part, but he really enjoyed his time doing both of these shows.
being from England I heard that the real Scottish summer is usually one day of sunshine, not surprising that by the time they reached the bench it started snowing
It depends what age you are whether you use fahrenheit or celcius, us over our 70's tend to use fahrenheit as that's what we grew up with, I do not have a clue what celsius means.
Hi squirrel, the hot seat in this episode was in a place called Victoria Park in Whiteinch Glasgow, my pals and I played there as boys. Happy days. Love your reactions keep them going big man. 👍👍🏴
The snow thing was a bit odd even with UK’s changeable weather. Heatwaves in the UK are often broken by thunderstorms and it would have made more sense for them to have ended the episode that way. Glad Isa’s husband isn’t coming back but sad for her when she went out on the pull. Great fun as always though.
Summer hail is a very much thing here in the UK, when hot damp air rises so far that it freezes. Though the hail stones are usually very small by the time they reach the ground.

No matter what time of year it is in Scotland we get all 4 seasons in a day most of the year
It's Scotland mate, we can have 4 seasons in one day over here.
two seasons in Scotland ,,,,,,,, ,winter and July
Snow here in Scotland in summer isn't so outlandish, it's not uncommon to get all four seasons within the space of an hour 😂
Angered the hell out of me as kid. By the time you dug out your sledge it was pissing it down and humid as fcuk.
That's true! Hehe!
The change of weather isn't even unrealistic in Scotland, could be raining one minute then hot and sunny the next, then out of nowhere snow

They do use Celsius over in Scotland, in the Cauld episode the guy on tv said -12 Celsius but then in a couple of other episodes they used Fahrenheit.

AM HIP SQUIRREL ..

It is usually °Celsius in Scotland but some of us know both temperature forms. I expect it could be Greg Hempil Canadian so they used his way.
In Scotland we talk Celsius. They’ve do the Fahrenheit thing to emphasise the old ways and pensioners sticking to it.
ah makes sense thank you

Haha, no. You can easily get all weather in one day at any time of the year in Scotland, so defo not weird.

We use both m8. Fahrenheit, Celsius, miles, kilos, ounces, stones, millimetres grams and bawhairs.
We don’t use Fahrenheit in Scotland. I’ve never seen it used, I have no idea why it was used here.. always Celsius😂
My brother appeared in many episodes of Still Game, as well as Rab C. Nesbitt, as an extra. He never had a talking part, but he really enjoyed his time doing both of these shows.

I’ve been here all my life (63 years) and I’ve NEVER known Fahrenheit to be used. Strange.
That's strange because I have been in Scotland for 47 years and have heard both Celsius and Fahrenheit used both on the TV and by the general public.
@@markwither796
Well, for all of my life I’ve obviously been fortunate enough to miss those odd occasions when Fahrenheit was used 🤷🏻♂️
@@markwither796I’m 25 and never seen Fahrenheit used either. This is so weird.
Scotland is celsius. Don't know why they are using fahrenheit here other than to try and use large numbers so it sounds hotter.
Loved it when Navid knocked back the melted chocolate mini eggs. 🍫🥚

That was indeed Fahrenheit but we have largely let go of that now thankfully
Great reaction again buddy It’s great to laugh along with someone watching this. It’s like watching with a m8 Keep em coming 😂😂👍👍
Thanks for watching with me :)
You are ploughing through all the series squirrel.
Good summer themed episode
Great video one of my favourite Still Game episodes.
Quite frankly, I'm amazed that you can enjoy this. I can't understand everything they say, and I'm English.
Brush-up on different British dialects , then you maybe able to enjoy the genius 🏴😉
It’s not that difficult.
Hi squirrel, the hot seat in this episode was in a place called Victoria Park in Whiteinch Glasgow, my pals and I played there as boys. Happy days. Love your reactions keep them going big man. 👍👍🏴
Tu Brian
Oooh olive the still game buddy
The gag, is 4 seasons in 1 day. A bit of a stereotype for Scottish weather.
It’s definitely Celsius we use here, I do not know why they said Fahrenheit.
How did she get the letter when she wasn't at the home address. Previously the Postie wouldn't deliver a letter to Victor when he was in the Pub.
Yes good call!
Hey squirrel 👋🏴🖤 Scotland used to count Fahrenheit but now it’s celcius love your content ✨
Ahh the beginning of the downward spiral
We use celsius and fahrenheit
It doesn't matter whether we use Celsius or Fahrenheit because it's always bloody cold here in Scotland.
Try Canada in the winter, you’ll be thankful for the temps in Scotland.
Once you have run out of series of Still Game you ought to give Early Doors a go. Very similar humour, would go down well here 👍
I don’t know why the didn’t use Celsius here

It's not that far fetched. It's not unusual to have 4 seasons in one day here.
Summer hail is a very much thing here in the UK, when hot damp air rises so far that it freezes. Though the hail stones are usually very small by the time they reach the ground.
It’s a thing called… “comedy”, for God’s sake! 🤷🏻♂️
Auld yins F, young yins C. 🙂
😂😂😂😂
😂🤣👍
We use both temperature measurements .
