Free Jukebox?!? will it work? Junk 1959 Wurlitzer revival

- I had an amazing opportunity to pick up a jukebox from a very nice gentleman today! The cost? My time and labour to move it from the basement of his house!
Can we make this classic rocker roll again?!
Watch and see as we fix a 1959 Wurlitzer model 2304 jukebox
On year the cafeteria where I worked we had a 1960s day and they rented a jukebox. I literally danced the whole day behind my cash register. I had so much fun that day.
Good lord! We had things like that in my misspent youth 🍿and this is century old ! I can accept getting old ⌛️! I’m only 73, so I can live another 27 years 🤪 .
"Put a new fang in the old tone arm cobra" Radar O'Reilly in MASH
"like a junior high kid at the prom, it got rejected"--so sad! 😋 Glad you've got it mostly fixed. 👍
He cracks me up. King of the Dad jokes
Alex, you have the prize!!! You have the ONLY intro that I actually don't mind sitting through each time I view one of your video's!!!
Alex, you should consider recording one of your own songs to put in there!
Great idea!
can you still get 45s pressed?
@@sherilynl4038 That's a good question! They do 33 rpm vinyl, but I haven't seen 45's Hmm. Maybe not so great an idea ;)
Let's do it. The "Alex" family in the juke box.
(Couldn't remember how to spell your last name. D------?)
@@sherilynl4038 I just checked with Precision Disc, it looks like they do make 45s
I love Wurlitzer’s they hold a lot of memories, The last one I used was in a café that as a teen me and my friends used to hang out in,It was the tall 50’s one with lighted tubes all ver the sides, It was the 70’s and we loved it, The old lady had a parrot on the counter (a no no today) and he’d bob along to some of the songs and we’d teach him to swear (bad boys) , That jukebox was great.
Karma rewards you for being a good guy! Great to see it. I follow your family on their UA-cam channels, in a non creepy way. My family is small and some members estranged thru no fault of mine, (divorce mess). It's nice to see a lovely extended family. Your newfound neice is so kind and sweet, I'm really glad you connected with your half sister and her wonderful family. I enjoy your wife's channel and your son's art and I watch Josh,Jakota too and Austin T too. Always enjoy the Hans updates as well as updates about the homeless man you helped. I have a little online community of UA-camrs to watch thanks to you and it helps me not to feel so isolated. It makes me feel happy when nice things happen for any of you. Thank you for letting us into some of your life. Good luck to you, your family and all the people you love and care about.
dont forget Bob the Bottle man
@@persebra Oh goodness, how did I forget Bob, bad me! Sorry Bob the Bottleman! I hope he can forgive my oversight. I also forgot the sign painter whose name escapes me at the moment, but he's a pretty cool guy too!
The perfect jukebox for UA-cam. It wont let you play any songs due to copyright infringement.
a whole bunch of mono Beatles 45s would disagree with you...
Score! That Wurlitzer couldnt have gone to a better home! Congrats!
I would not have minded it coming to my home. I have a large stack of 45s I'd love to use on it.
terri williams
Yeah. I also have lots of 45’a, but I have boxes of 78’s. Now I need a Wurlitzer to play them 👨🏽🦳
A lot like the one in the drugstore where I worked in 64 / 65. Soda jerk, delivery boy, short order cook, grill cleaner, spill cleanup, etc...
What a great free gift Every one needs a Jim in their life what a great guy, he looked so happy to be working on the machine, plus so happy to share the information with you. It will be soon up and working perfectly I’m quite sure and what fun folk are going to have when they come into the shop.
I'm sure Jim got paid.
Time to put the patient into the ambulance! lol Great jukebox! I hope you get it working!
Awesome - Wurlitzer Jukebox. 😃
There's a lesson in the way Alex approaches his work. Do what you do best and create a network of people that can help you do the things that you can't do well. Whether it's pinball machines and jukeboxes, watches or cars, he takes the same approach with all of them..
cool a Wurley 2304 or 2310...You're lucky as this model has hinge problems on the front glass due to weight. I sold one in NY and delivered up 2 narrow flights...not fun.
I am so happy to see you are 299K subscribers. I remember you reaching 100K. Your wonderful content and personality has made this happen so quickly. Thanks.
This would look cool in the new addition once you build it!
😎😎😎 Alex, you're the hardest working man in the antique business for sure.
You are a natural magnet for the most interesting and diverse range of personages.
It is one of many things about you that keeps your channel interesting!
We never know who or what is gonna be pulled in by your magnetism !
Love the older jukebox players. I am glad it could be salvaged.
The Fonz would get it going !
Alex should've slicked back his hair into a DA and donned a leather jacket. Lol
you beat me to the joke lol. i once pulled a Fonzie on a stuck elevator and it actually got the motor running again .
Aaaaaaaaay!!! 😉
Jukeboxes are always so sweet. Who would not want one for the Man Cave. SCORE. Another thing you should do as you acquire more stuff is post your inventory for PROPS to be used in movies. Am sure that stuff rents out for good money.
AWESOMELY COOL!!!
God is hearing and blessing you
I love you guys videos are always fun thank for taking us along😁
This kind of thign happens to you because you are good to others. Keep it up!
Wow! What a find!
I want to see more of Jim and his repairs of pinball machines etc. Super interesting. 😍👏👏👏
Wow! Serendipities in action! ....it is exciting just watching your videos! Thank you for sharing! God bless y’all and stay safe!
Neato Cheeto!!! A local diner in the New Orleans area still had the same jukebox from my childhood... on my 16th birthday I got to break the record Sixteen Candles by the Crests as the entire 9 months of 1987 up until my 16yh birthday was played multiple times when I would go with my dad to the diner. So on my birthday I got to distroy the record... lol.
My granddad used to fix these things, along with TVs, stereos , soda machines and amps in bars, bowling alleys, drive ins and the like. I would go along with him when I was little. I agree all new belts, and clean every contact (switch) and wire connector in it. Please post a video when its playing.Oil everything too.
Alex , there is a Wurlitzer Programme on a readable CD that allows you to input the artist/ song selection onto a myriad of card designs then just print them out and cut them to fit......it only works on Windows not Apple unfortunately.....well mine doesn’t.
Other wise you’ll have to use a typewriter if you buy the serrated “proper” cards for it
If you can’t find one I’ll burn one off for you
Really good looking machine! Great luck Alex! XXX
How cool to learn about something I played a lot as a kid, but never paid attention to how it works.
Manifestation, buddy! Your energy went out into the Universe and came back to you as a jukebox!
Love that jute box. I remember growing up and playing song on one. And in restruarnts you could play them at your table. Sure do miss play on the jute boxed.
Juke
@@kaseythomas9646 I think in different parts of the country it was either juke or jute depending on where you lived.
We always called it a jute box, right or wrong. We used to go to your host restaurant and play the table top one
@@jusmeinia7 it's odd because jute is a fiber to make rope. Just s mispronunciation that caught on, I guess.
Nice pickup! Thanks again for a great video.
You find the best stuff.
You seriously need a malt shop open on the weekends in your new building with that jukebox ready for play.
Elizabeth Stallings And all the pinball machines! With a counter that serves shakes and malts and ice cream cones. What a nice addition to the part of town.😄
A 1950's theme would be cool!
You should build a large shop on the back of the store, like a two car garage but only for one car, your delivery vehicle, the other half a can be for repairing and preparing antiques, and checking boxes that are donated or bought. Could be added to the summer expansion project. Hope that helps looking forward to seeing your shop this summer. 😊👍
he wants to build another building next door, trying to find the cash for it. he is leveraged to the hilt. if he could sell the potter's house or the old store, it would free up some cash. but now they are just renters.
It’s just some helpful advice. I know he’s leveraged but if he does build the other half of the store, it would cost less to build a garage/workshop at the same time then to do it separately. Just helping him out. Alex and Mellissa can use all of our advice to help the store. 😊👍
The jukebox looked good and sounded good ♥️♥️♥️🤗
WOW, it's gorgeous. It's possible that it's only a Canada only model too. Admittedly I don't work on jukeboxes, BUT I do work on vintage tube electronics, and "just plug it in" isn't always a good idea. Jukeboxes were rather high quality, but the amplifier should be looked at by a professional, anyway. It's a fire and shock risk if not checked out, and if not, you could've seriously damaged the power transformer, rendering it useless. Just a friendly warning. Your friend there seems knowledgeable on the mechanical part, and you can rely on him for at least that. Have fun with your new jukebox! You're the envy of many in the vintage electronics community, now. :)
Classy addition to the shop.
Nice that you know Jim, he is obviously a serious plus for someone who loves old arcade machines.
This channel is all „feel good“.20 years ago I spent a year in Canada and was totally in awe of the wonderful people who lived there. Mr.Archibold represents all these good Canadian people in the best way possible. BestRegards from Germany, Tobias.
Just what you needed💕💕💕💕
I smiled the whole time watching this video. Your content is always interesting, educational and fun! Thanks for making me smile !
You have a remarkable life.
That is such a great story...love it. The jukebox is awesome! Excited!
Nice find Alex, 1959 is a hot collector item and especially because Wurlitzer brand and open mechanism showing records playing with the huge glass.
You got very lucky !
I LOVE!!! the sound of the motor on the ambulance. That smooth rumbled sound makes me feel safe and secure.
WOW!!! How lucky are you and the thing has 45's in it I have a bunch of 45 's some worth big money with the sleeves and everything and all I need is a juke box to put them in. I will get one one day LOL!! My Aunt has a nice one that will most likely be mine one day but to get one for free is awesome even if it needs work it's still worth it.
Your right, it's funny how life works sometimes. Thanks for sharing
Awesome! CONGRATULATIONS on your free jukebox!
I drive by the Wurlitzer factory when I go to my daughters. It’s now used for weddings and holiday buffets. It is a really pretty building
It’s funny up until a few years ago I always thought a juke box was called a jute box. Wow it’s so cool to see the inside of that juke box its nice that you’ve got Jim to work on it.
What incredible timing. Good things happen to good people.
What a great addition to the store!
I Loved your video and am so jealous! I have loved Jukeboxes for years and still have one that was my parents owned when I was growing up that is non working and another one I bought a few years ago that needs work but is working. But that Wurlitzer you got for free is one of the models I would love to have! I hope you enjoy it!
I actually remember a juke box in my birth town , Libby, MT! It was a restaurant on one side with a bar on the other side. Families would go out to eat and end up dancing in bar area!
This is the best trash to treasure example ever
In 1959 the machines cost 10 cents per play, or three for twenty-five cents.
Do you remember the little juke boxes in the booths wherein you could pay and choose the songs you wanted to play? The good old days. I am officially my mother.
boy does this take me back - how cool. i remember these from when i was a child and i will be 65 this year
My grandpa had a similar jukebox in his basement bar when I was a little kid . 🍍💛🧡💜❤💚💙
There is a good way to fix the belts using polyurathane belt material available on eBay. You can make ANY size belt you need. Look for the diameter and you cut your own to length. Better than the original material used back then. Just for info. I use that material in my business all the time.
I remember the Wurlitzer jukebox. Always fun to pick out songs to play.
Magical! I hope you plan to keep it in the shop and load it up to the max with new/old records!
In the 1950's the Whelan Drug Store/soda fountain , telegraph office/Pharmacy in our town, Lakewood,NJ
had a juke box, not quite like that one. more glitch.
It was fun to listen to and buy a malt fo 25 or 35 cents.
Cheers,
Rik Spector
In my hometown there was a place called Jim's Pizza Shack and it had a 50 style juke box that took 45's and had all the good Rock & Roll from the 50's and 60's even some 70's and use to go there and shoot pool listen to music and eat pizza on the weekends it was lot's of fun
Awsome show ! allways nice to see your adventures !
If I owned a diner that’s what I would want. Millennials would be fascinated!
We purchased a 1961 (Same model) Wurlitzer with the exception, it's color on the sides are a blonde formica. We had it serviced and cleaned and the guy had a set of external box speakers in his shop. We inquired if he'd consider selling them. We bought them for $300...a steal. What a sound they added to the Juke Box, omygosh! (note: always have at least 2 replacement needles as they do wear quicker than most) Allow me to add, I worked in the 80's as a "Melody Girl" for a national vending machine company then and my job was collecting from many models of the dying vinyl juke box industry. I bought the records from a warehouse and kept the lowest played records as new releases...we have many old labeled original 45's in our collection, last counted to be approximately 1300 and various genres. The counter is on the spinner, tells that info *wink *wink. The only cleaner that's ever been used on the chrome is vinegar water. This is one prized item that will always be cherished by hubs and myself. Enjoy yours!! xo
What an awesome find! So glad that you were able to bring such a treasure back to working condition. It will be nice to see the youth of today respond to something that we all grew up with and were lucky to be able to play 3 songs for a quarter! Thanks for sharing this beautiful '59 Wurlitzer with us and giving us a chance to do some reminiscing!!!
So cool! What a lucky break! Thanks for sharing
The first 45 I owned was “I get around” by the Beach Boys ordered off of a cereal box. It was only a couple dollars, paid just the shipping and handling I believe.😊
It's because good things happen to good people Alex, you and your family are always helping other people and so that comes back to you, bravo Jim for getting it going
What a great satisfaction to clean up something old and make it look amazing again!
MaxiHMS
Wish there was something that would work for me 🧨.
@@michaelwiebers9656 LOL yeah I'm 60s vintage... spit and polish dont work any more!
What a wonderful treasure you got! Plus you got all those great 45 rock & roll records!!! All for the cost of a few parts! This is the universe returning your good deeds Alex :D
Hi Alex 🖐🏼.I just wanted to say (1959) it was A very good year ‼️‼️‼️‼️ LOL 😆 🤣🤪 😜🤭 Werk.
Looks fab. What a find!
How cool is this juke box! Perfect for your store!
I remember you getting the jukebox labels with the 45s in a box. Hopefully they are aged in looks like the ones in the jukebox. I have to say, you are one blessed man!
I am not Neil , Amazing , priceless
Alex, it is great that you know the right person to help you out with the jukebox. I live in San Diego & a few years ago I bought my son an old typewriter & it was very difficult to find the right person who wanted to fix it. We found someone who was by appointment only & was never available. My 20 year old looked up on yt & figured out how to replace the string, which luckily worked out. The jukebox is nice to have in your store. The kids & adults will make it a habit to play a song! Take care & God Bless.
Another fascinating production! thanks, Jim!
Cool beans! Exactly the right price too.
My Dad was a locksmith and he would often make night calls to get someone into their car or home who lost their keys. Or the keys would be locked inside.
So often I would hold the flashlight for him as he tried to pick the lock open. I would have to keep the light on the cylinder and I can still hear him saying "keep it steady...kept the light steady"!
So cool ! Takes me back to the good ole days.
Holy Nuts! That's awesome! You have a juke box in your store!
What a great addition to your store! I notice you are almost at 300,000 subs! How exciting !
What an awesome piece to add to your store! Love it.
Alex, you're a walking talking poster child for good karma☺♥!
Nice find, and you sure seem to have people with all the right skills at hand.🖤🇨🇦
I luv that jukebox! What a score, and for Free! Just another example of your good heart Alex....what goes around, comes around.
I had a that same frog-pattern blanket when I was a child.
What a great freebie love me jukeboxes hope to see a video when it’s all fixed up
Beautiful! You'll be rocking and rolling in no time! Would love to redo my house and get one of these and a 60's/70's soda machine. Knick-nacks get in the way!
My brother bought a jukebox and he plugged it in and it looked really good until the arm picked up a record and threw it up against the side the inside of the jukebox and did that to several records until he could unplug it and stop it was very exciting
Phenomenal. Brings to mind the 4-part harmonies the boys sang in my high school. I was in ♥️ with them.
I would suggest listening closely if you hear a hum when you power it up. If so, then look at your amp and replace your filter capacitor. Remember your components are over 50 years old. Replacing it will protect your amp's transformer. Good luck and enjoy!
very cool, looking forward to seeing the 'completed' jukebox...nice
You are so blessed.
