I just wanted to say that I think this is one of the best covers of a Nick song that I have ever heard. It's absolutely sublime, and entirely your own take on the song. Wonderful.
The guitar & vocal is very nice but personally I don't think the artist has been able to connect with the meaning & emotion of the song, hardly at all ... but then it's a tough act trying to follow the sublime Nick Drake & get anyway near the instant & total connection he made to the listener on everything he did ...
You have a point ; we can't compare this to the feeling accross Nick Drake's song. On a technical approach, Denison did not even invented something amazing on his guitar. Though there is this sweetness in sound... and as for emotions, I found, in totally other colors than in Nick Drake's, a genuine meaning of the song words through his version :)
Morgane I think I struggle to take anyone else's versions of Nick Drake songs on board .. he just delivered them effortlessly & genuinely from inside himself. I did like some of the artists on the BBC 4 concert night though like Lisa Hannigan. Feeling is down to the listener so if you hear it here then it must be there...
Lisa sang Chime of a City Clock & Black Eyed Dog, not sure who sang Northern Sky now. The concert is called "Way to Blue The Songs of Nick Drake". A BBC concert, nice if you are a Drake fan ?? Some artists were good, some struggled .. as I say tough to follow Nick. Thanks.
