    I picked up a copper EP1 from Refyne and it’s nice and all, the bolt action is nice, but then I discovered this Machine Era pen and just had to order one. I just got it today and I LOVE it! I think it’s the perfect edc pen that will last a lifetime. The nice thing about the Machine Era pen is that it takes virtually any g2 refill, the EP1 only takes specific types of g2 refills, not including the pilot g2, which is a bummer. Both are nice but I’m definitely going to be carrying the Machine Era for a long long time. No moving parts so it’ll be a tank forever!

      I absolutely love the g2 ink. I'm not sure if you have taken the full dive into fountain pens yet, but if you like a wet writing pen I highly encourage you to get the g2 bold refill. It's a massive difference from what comes with the pen. Enjoy your pen, hopefully they will patina nicely. I have not heard of that refyne pen but I could certainly see how bolt action could really entice. Something about durable mechanics, feels good to use.

      @@1598hi I do love me a thicker, bolder ink so I will definitely check those out! Only downfall for me is that I'm left handed, so smearing can sometimes be an issue. I've figured out how to mostly avoid it over the years though.

      @@thisiserich I am also left handed. Although only for writing and silverware. Which is why I do not use binders if I don't have to. Those metal rings get so in the way!

    I like my Machine Era Classic. I do appreciate the problem that you have described with risking stripping the threads when posting the cap. I try to post with care.
    One trick that helps me is to hold the cap steady in my left hand and then to insert the pen into the cap with my right hand, using my right hand to twisting the pen carefully into the cap. When I do that, the pen moves easily into the cap.
    I have more difficulty posting well when I hold the pen in my left hand and then try and twist the cap onto the pen with my right hand. (I hope that I have described the difference clearly!)
    The point is that posting works more smoothly when I twist the pen into the cap, and not the cap onto the pen.
    Would you be willing let me know if posing in the way that I have described - cap steady in non-dominant hand and twisting the pen into the cap with the dominant hand - makes it easier for you as well?

      Hi and thank you for the tip! I am right handed, however in kindergarten they pushed us to write with our left. I ended up a left dominant for writing and cutlery. This is why my handwriting is not good. They taught us how to write letters as a right handed person but using our left hand. Nevertheless I still have high end writing instruments that I enjoy.
      Your advice is something I am already doing, I have no trouble at all! Even when in a rush, I have never had a close call that I can remember. This is a fantastic pen. I am actually on a list to be notified when some more stuff becomes available from machine era. They are a great brand!
      Thanks again for the tip, you worded it well.

      Yes, I think that this is a great pen, too.

    For the Original pen, has anyone put O-rings in the grooves? I did that for my Hinderer Extreme Pen and would love to do the same for my Original. Just ca't find the correct O-ring or rubber band. Any suggestions?

    I picked up one of these pens recently and love it. It really is a perfect EDC pen. One question: I've noticed that the brass is picking up some of my handprints on it. Is this just part of the patina process?

    One more question. I noticed that if I'm using a Pilot g2 cartridge and I don't tighten the grip section down all the way there's a little bit of wiggle in the grip section that annoys me. I know you said that tightening it too much may cause the g2 cartridge to crack, but I'd the wiggle normal? Do you experience something similar?

    • @1598hi
      @1598hi  2 роки тому +2

      You can tighten it, just don't over tighten it. Once you feel resistance you're making contact with the cartridge so you don't want to continue tightening it much more. But the pen should feel tight with no wiggle. I have not had this issue. Try tightening it a little more, being mindful you're putting pressure on the plastic cartridge and see how it goes

      Thanks for the reply. Yeah, the only way my unit stops wiggling at the grip is if I tighten down to the point all the way until I can't anymore. I'm not sure if it did this brand new or not so I ordered another pen to compare to. We'll see what happens.

    Very tempted to pick one up. It seems like a real hidden gem, since it's solid brass, handmade in Virginia, but far less expensive than Karas Kustom, Tactile Turn, etc.-and yet I've been looking at "EDC" pens for a long time, I've been all over the web, and I literally had never heard of this pen until yesterday when I happened to see it in a Nick Shabazz UA-cam video. Question: since there is no o-ring on the cap threads, has it tended to loosen up on its own?

    • @1598hi
      @1598hi  3 роки тому +1

      I have not had the cap loosen up on me. I've used it for 2 weeks in college now. I'm sure you know this already, but definitely don't crank the cap down tight being brass

    I just find that it is useless, if you don't have someplace else to carry it besides your pocket. You need a dedicate apparatus to carry it in, or you will be like me where it falls to the bottom of my pants pocket, and ends up staying there when I wear different pants the next day...then I don't have it. Without a clip, it's worthless, the new model with the clip, doesn't have the beautiful engraved rings, that's why I did not get it. Wish it would fit into my knife sheath, because I always have it...

    • @1598hi
      @1598hi  2 роки тому

      I totally understand that. For me it hasn't been much of a problem at all but I can see how not having a clip could be an issue.
