Legend but had poor trainer and no discipline but if he had proper trainer and forced discipline he would have been one of the greatest boxers of all time!
Errrr not sure about that.... Amazing left hook but lacked size, footwork and sheer physicality to mix it with the big boys of the division in Bowe & Lewis
Yeah, and Lewis was 250+ and Bowe even more. Plus, Lewis was nearer 2meteres in height to Tommy’s 188.... so not sure what point you’re making as I’ve clearly made mine: Tommy was not a big man compared to those guys
He got a job as a commentator and he did a good job but he ended up getting arrested and lost that job. Its is a shame what happened to him. He seemed like a nice guy who just lost his way. He needed good people around him.
He was a true warrior in the ring . He’s pretty much forgotten about .ge was a work horse had a great chin and an awesome left hook .hecould have been the white Tyson . He fukd up lived life to the max and it caught up with him . I think he could have been mentored better and looked after . Either way great shame could have been an all time great in my opinion . And half the heavy weights nowadays he would walk all over . RIP Tommy gone but not forgotten .
Great fighter. Yes. But def had a glass jaw.. this is why he could not get pass a lot of top fighters.. check his knockouts and who against. All mostly bums.. he was an attraction back then. Because he was a white boy that fought like the likes of mike Tyson..so yes super attraction..but was mostly hype when it came to top tier contenders for him.. George foreman was his glory. Old super slowww. Made tommy look like Tyson.. After that foreman fight he was pretty much back to fighting bums...
It takes guts to go up and admit something in your life he was one of the greatest heavyweight of all time I met him got a chance to eat breakfast with him he is a very sweet guy because my uncle played Matt elder and the sons of Katie elder with John Wayne let's not remember how they passed but how they touched people in their hearts that is the best thing you could ever do is remember the best cuz that's what they did for you rest in peace
Exactly, so when he comes out and says he didn’t have aids why wont people believe him then? There is actually proof several more aids test that were negative. Who is this person talking on here. Who is this woman she doesn’t know anything
Tommy was one of my favorite fighters.but the scariest and most neglected things in this interview is who was allowing him to fight knowing he was positive.boxing is corrupt.
True. BUT he had tests before almost every fight. He only tested positive in 95/6. There have been rumours that he actually tested positive in 89 but I don't believe that. He would've been only months out of high school as he missed a year where he had to work due to certain issues. Also if you're not taking any medication for it then you can get by for a few years sure but 7?? Whilst knocking hundreds off people out and becoming heavyweight world Champion? I dunno. I reckon he probably contracted it after the Foreman fight. We know for certain(as certain as we can be!) he didn't have it pre Foreman as he passed supervised tests.
@Baldie Da Beast He said several times that's how he got HIV,but I am not sure.I read something a long time ago that he said he was doing steroids as a teenager. Here is something from an interview with him: SN: Tommy, you have always been very open about the fact that during much of your professional boxing career, you used steroids. Can you tell us when you started using them? TM:I can tell you when, but I won't say how (laughs). Actually, I got into them a little bit in high school, but it was more in the pills, the oral stuff. The injections and stuff wasn't until later. As far as my professional career, probably around 1991. I used them not while I was training, but in between bouts. I just want to make sure that is clear. SN: What kind of steroids did you stack and in what dosages? TM:Usually a CC of whatever I was taking. A lot of times they were oral, some of them weren't, in the off time. The benefits were that it made me more aggressive, like I needed that (laughs). It made me more aggressive in every area of my life. I never went over the edge, though, like some guys you hear about. I want everyone to know though, and I learned early, that if you're going to do it, you have to keep a cool head.
@Baldie Da Beast He was on meds and took a test right after stopping his meds and he was undetectable. That is why he passed the test. Either that or he rigged the test with paying off the doctor that tested him.
Tommy was ill. It may well have been HIV, it's very likely, or it could've been other issues with his blood and add to his situation that he was using heavy drugs that will make a real mess of you. That being said, I've yet to hear Elizabeth Merrill say anything positive about Tommy. She comes across as condescending in the 30 for 30 and considering the amount of ratings that Tommy brought in for ESPN, maybe she should've spent more journalistic time on showing his good side in stead of bashing the poor dead guy.
He never tested positive for HIV. His widow has proof of this. It seems someone with power wanted him out of boxing by 1996, maybe he slept with a NSA Commissioners daughter, who knows? Tommy’s wife is making progress with his case. Last I heard she had a date for the supreme court.
I'm so sick of everyone trashing Rocky V. It was a great movie. Everyone has different taste but I loved the movie.
I liked it, too.
the woman seems like a heartless broad and she doesnt offer much insight

It's funny that you have this segment I only watched a documentary on him on youtube a couple of weeks back
Yeah ,the same here.wtf

May you please explain that quote?

Great chin? LOL. He had a lethal left hook - that's it. He was also juiced to the gills post 1993.
All heavyweights were juiced to the gills back in the 90s.
Tyson Holyfield, Lewis, all of them
@@elbertbass6610 No doubt. But Tyson, Lewis, Holyfield, Bowe had elite-level talent. Morrison had a monster left hook and that's it.

Exactly!
Marion Morrison was his uncle, which is why he picked up the nickname "Duke".
He got the nickname from being the great nephew of John Wayne, which his nickname was “the duke”
Seriously, how long did he know he had HIV? Blood exchange can occur during boxing. 😬
RIP 🥊🥊
I actually know his brother personally
Did he really die from aids ?
