@@Dulcimerist because you just hired a brand-new front office staff who had to see what they had first. The new GM is not under pressure to win so a rebuild is possible given the start so yes trade now that you see what the team is.

I don't see the Luzardo deal happening. From the Yankees point of view they're not taking on 17M in salary which will be close to 40 mil with taxes after they passed on Montgomery and Snell. From the Marlins point of view, trading a SP 7 days in is plain dumb. He'll be worth more at the deadline.
I suggested the Arraez trade months ago. Arraez and an outfielder for Manoah , Biggio , White and 2 or 3 minor leaguers (excluding Tiedeman). Thats a blockbuster trade the Jays need.

No on Arias. I trade Pereira, Rice no problem. I would rather include Warren plus another mid tier guy than trade Arias.
Now if we include Arraez and Luzardo... Then I trade Pereira, Rice, Arias, Warren PLUS. I might trade Spencer Jones to get both of them.
Getting those two instantly make the Yankees the odds on favorite in the AL. They would have the best 1-2-3 in baseball, and the best baseball has seen in quite some time. Cumulative OBP of .400+. Whoever was batting cleanup would be given so many opportunities to drive in runs. Judge would have someone on base in front of him in probably 60%+ of his ABs where he wasn't leading off an inning.
And Luzardo would be a welcome addition to the rotation. Top three of Cole, Rodon and Luzardo would be nice.
I would love Arraez as a Jays fan, if we can find a way to offload either IKF or Biggio as well due to salary implications of bringing Luis in.

You are ridiculous. So in every trade the main guy the Marlins get is a SS? If they start trading guys it will be to rebuild their farm system. They will not attach Garcia to their top guy and take back less prospect capital.
MIA need much more on each trade. With Alcantra & Perez they aren't going to rebuild. They aren't in a hurry, they'll trade but it won't be cheap.

I dont see the fish looking to trade major pieces at this point of the season. You wait for the deadline, when teams interested are looking to outbid one another. You are going to get as much for Luzardo, if not more, if you wait til the deadline...and you still have him for now. Yeah, things arent looking good for MIA this season but you move Luzardo now for a package, they are gonna tank even harder IMO. Btw, the Os have the pieces, I see them going after Luzardo, especially if Bradish is still iffy by then.

My problems with the Luzardo deal:
1. Luzardo making 5 mil and Garcia making 12 mil this season. That's 17 mil added to the payroll, which is already over the highest tax threshold. That would be effectively taking on 36 million to add these two, only one of which would be contributing to their roster spot. Yanks didnt want to pay Snell more than 27/28 (30 if you believe initial reports), and that's without giving up their trade chips. I don't think they're gonna do that.
2. Luzardo fits perfectly into a problem the Yankees already have; starters with questionable injury histories. We just lived this when signing Rodon. He had been healthy and effective for the same timeframe as Luzardo has been at this point. Adding Luzardo doesn't fix the amount of question marks in the rotation. It adds one.
3. Arias is in no way untouchable, and I'm well aware you need to give to get and it has to hurt. But as far as pieces Yankees are willing to deal, Arias is close to arriving at the point of being a crown jewel (because Dominguez and Jones aren't going anywhere, they're not chips to consider at all). I don't believe Cashman would use that chip on a starter with Luzardo's injury history. Again, we just learned this lesson with Rodon. The "he's finally healthy" narrative is a flimsy one. It proves nothing. And while any pitcher is an injury risk regardless of their history, as Cole just proved, some guys are just greater risks. Like Luzardo.
I'm not making that deal as it is. I don't think the front office is willing to take on that salary+tax. And if they were willing to, I would rather try to overwhelm MIA with volume instead of using Arias here. If they say no, no harm done. Luzardo and Garcia is at 41.4 on the simulator. Pereira, Peraza, Mayea and Rice is at 42.1. Yes, Peraza is injured, but he'll be back soon, and MIA isn't contending this year anyway. I'm good if they don't want it. I'd rather find an option that doesn't have as much risk. And yes, Luzardo is a major risk. I used to own him in fantasy every year anticipating his promotion and breakout. He's more likely to break your heart than break out. There isn't just a floor, there is a basement, and a ditch dug in the basement.
Well said. They will put Volpe and second Arias at short. I don't see them signing Torres to a contract. This way you improve on defense and offense. From what I saw from Arias he is a year away.
