Arvid knew exactly what was going on. To publicly give an anti Nazi speech in 1939 would have been extremely bold. There were many who felt as he did, but many Germans did nothing as their country eventually became rubble.
The thing that struck me about this scene is that the German officers are almost relatable. They are all 2nd lieutenants right out of flight school, probably about as "innocent' as one could be at that point, most likely around the same age as the Swing Kids, a few years older.
And then all they would've asked you to do is do the Heil salute. That's all. Then align with the Nazi party. That's just one tiny thing. Oh, and the next step will be to turn a blind eye to all the antisemitism the party and the media pushed. No big deal. Then just stand aside as they drag all your Jewish neighbors away for the crime of being Jewish. Just be a good citizen and go along with it. *Please think harder about why he reacted the way he did. And how things could've turned out much different in Nazi Germany if more people had had that kind of bravery.*
That paper didn't read "You can make up a song about anything .Even a song about people being peaceful.,Sing it in German"???? If the big band did that, and everyone would dance to a "German" song about that they might become kinder and not be so hateful. The song could have been titled "Please Be Peacefu & kind."What exactly was written on the paper.???😞😲😀
The Nazis despised blues, jazz, swing, & etc. They argued it was the downfall of German Society. In fact they would say the same thing for any song after the 1940s. Ur George Strait, prince, Michael Jackson, Nicki Minaj, 50 cent, Tina Turner, and most singers would find themselves in a gas chamber.
@@frankdeleon4209 It was because he was wise that he *did* speak out. He knew he was putting himself in danger, but he hoped to inspire others who felt the same way to speak out, too. If more had been brave like he was, maybe the nazi's wouldn't have gotten away with things as easily as they did.

@@BelleMort6true. But here's the terrifying truth. He should've been wiser being so outspoken. He leaves him exposed
