Arcos de Valdevez is a town in the north of Portugal at the border with Galicia (Spain). It is part of the National Park of Peneda-Geres. The town has approximately 25,000 citizens. Arcos de Valdevez played an important role in the independence of Portugal. It was fortified in the Middle Ages with a castle Paco da Giela to protect the area against a Spanish invasion.
