Just one minor detail: my father is a doctor, and whe he saw the scene when sherlock is shot,he was really surprised he survived. He told me that the shot was in a crucial point and that he should be *dead*. Guess love does actual miracouls.
I litterally made a friend today because I was watching this during English class and this guy says to me "Umm...is that TJLC?". I have a new friend now 😁
When Sherlock hands her a list of people who hate her.... like..... sherlock prepared that list for himself. He had to make new friends or at least find allies in the battlefield (the wedding)
I love how Amanda smiles every time she talk about the show. Her smiles screams tjlc and when she talked about Mary's pregnacy she called Mary an elephant. This women can't stop hinting.
It is scary how much this makes sense. Not even from a shipper's pov, but from the perspective of someone who likes a damn good/intelligent twist, I hope you are right!
I really love this series. You always seem so happy and genuine and the analysis makes so much sense. I'd say this is my favourite series on UA-cam right now.
'Mary' is probably the best villain I have encountered in any fictional story till date. And in regards to the show, she is better than Moriarty, Magnussen, and every villain combined, because she has managed to fool the characters themselves, of course, and nearly the entire audience for an entire season. And even after TAB, some people still believe she's a goodie. Lovely video, as always! :)
Also I don't know if someone's already said this but Irene was also introduced with her face hidden if I remember that correctly and she working for/with moriaty like every villain has. But the reason why I think that moriatys face was half hidden In the pool scene was because at first when you saw him he was 'good'. But then when you see him in the pool you realise that he was infact the villain. And that's why I think half of his face is showing
Rebekah TJLC Explained Thanks I thought that's how she was introduced. The fact that she was working for moriaty eliminates the possibility of her being a love interest for Sherlock. People are just to blind to see that I think
I'd like to point out that when John tells Mary that meeting her is the best thing that could possibly happen to him, he's shaking his head as he says it. A clear indication that he doesn't consider what he's saying to be true.
You know, a lot of people either refuse to believe "Mary" is evil, believe that John *actually" loves her or that the three of them do love eachother in some way or another, and her "sacrifice" was genuine. While I really, *really* doubt that, it would be quite interesting if "Mary" had an actual redemption near the big finale of the series. It's not impossible, since Irene started off as a villain, but she and Sherlock ended up in pretty good terms, and he ultimately saved her... Or, like Eurus, who did utterly horrible things, but sort of ended up being "forgiven", aparently. If at some point "Mary" actually did some legitimate redeeming acts at the moment of truth, in a believable way, instead of just dying (Stanger Things Style)... that would be really cool.
[JOHN, MARY AND SHERLOCK AT 221B DISCUSSING AGRA] We have a framework there where John is out of focus in the mirror and Mary is in focus but out of the mirror. She is looking at John but he has his back turned to her. To me, that framework is contrasting directly to an old one where John and Sherlock are both framed inside the mirror, with John out of focus and Sherlock looking at him, while they're both front faced to the mirror. They (production) could have chosen so many frameworks to work with in that AGRA scene, but they picked the one that makes a comparison between John and Sherlock's relationship to John and Mary's. John and Sherlock belong together at 221B, that's their place, so they're occupying that space. But Mary is purposely placed out of that place... She is the intruder. John's heart will always be at 221B and Mary can't function there. BTW, Bekah, I loved the video and I'm looking forward to TAB!!!!!! That's my favorite episode and with no doubts it will be my favorite video of yours. XOXO
You are a fucking saint, you know! You've undoubtedly inspired so many creators in the fandom, I know this because I felt compelled to create an entire podcast centered around TJLC. I feel kind of embarrassed that I haven't credited you yet on said podcast. I'm going to start doing that from now on. Your uploads make my day and I wait every week with bated breath for the next video. I applaud all the hard work you put into your videos. I know how hard it is, I'm juggling senior year of college with my creative outlets too. I feel like I owe you, and the TJLC fandom at large, so much. When s4 comes out and proves us all right, I'll be parading down the streets shouting your name! You rock, and have a lovely day.
and she lies about the memory stick as well. when she's asked in s3, she DOESN'T COME CLEAN. she only actually tells us what agra is after sherlock finds another member.
One of the weaker supports for TJLC. Mary's actions are very open to interpretation. She smiled when Sherlock berated Mycroft for not doing enough for him, because Mycroft was being raked over the coals. Her smile when she sees Sherlock has been reading John's blog about the day they first met seems sweet and genuine. SHE knows Sherlock loves John, while John is still suppressing his feelings (this is born out by S4E1-2). I never once thought she was mocking John's blog. That was a continuity error on the part of the blog writers and production. She acts in the series like she's never read them, when she is commenting on his blogs. Lying and betraying John's trust is the worst thing she could do to "I have trust issues" John Watson. But Sherlock did the same thing to him, lying about dying. I thought Mary was being VERY understanding when the special night planned by her BF, John to propose to her, was totally thrown off the rails. She knows John worships Sherlock, what else would a GF do but try to ally herself with him, befriend him. It's what John would want for the two people that John loves the most. Mary could totally try to calm John down by objecting to his outbursts, but remember, she's an assassin. To her, during the restaurant rows, Sherlock is trying to explain, and it makes sense to her. You have to limit how many people know a secret. And she knows John. John is very demonstrative about Sherlock. Killers and criminals are watching John's actions to be convinced of Sherlock's death. And John isn't that good an actor. He would give away the game if he knew Sherlock was alive, but the stakes are too high and Sherlock will not take that risk.
If Mary shot Sherlock in the head or heart, Moriarty would know that she was the only one who could make that good of a shot who also had motivation. She didn't shoot him in the center of his body/skull so the amount of people that killed him is larger and she is less likely to be killed by Moriarty.
Mary shot Sherlock in the pericardium, he flatlined, the doctors gave him up, he was really dead, and could restart his heart just because mind palace Moriarty said John Watson is definetly is in danger (from his wife).
can i ask you something? Do you have a bee tattoo at your wrist? Ah, and where are you from? because you said that you don't know so much about english media :)
I get almost as excited about a new TJLCE episode as I am about season 4 of Sherlock being a thing that will happen next year...and that is about as excited as I could possibly get...
yeah, it is really confusing in the books sometime. I don't know how it was exactlly but he meets her in the "Agra" story and then in the shortstories she is mentioned as his love interest and also as his wife(?) but he still lives with Sherlock and solve cases with him. But at the end of the "Agra" story he says: That will be our last case Sherlock. I will marry Mary and leave you." ???? later he leaves Sherlock, moves in with Mary but every Story begins with the fact that JOhn visit Sherlock and suddently Mary is (nearly) never mentioned again...
After just seeing the first episode of season 4, I had to go back and watch this. It took me forever to convince my mom that Mary is evil, since she's only seen the 2017 new years episode and the Victorian episode. They frame her as being so sweet with everyone sympathizing with her until the last two seconds. All the while, I was screaming "but the water!!!!!" Still confused why John is so upset that Sherlock "broke his vow." That woman was a demon, even without the Moriarty thing. Mental disorders diagnosis time! Sherlock is an undiagnosed high functioning autistic. Moriarty is the psychopath and Mary is the sociopath. Mary is a near perfect match the the DSM-5 definition of a sociopath: breaks the law, constantly lies, impulsive, can't plan ahead, little regulars for the safety of others unless it's part of her act, and doesn't feel remorse for her actions. (only thing left is being a really bad financial planner, which I don't know one way or another). She's not a sociopath because she's way more impulsive than Moriarty, and she doesn't see people as just pawns to get what she wants like Moriarty, (I mean she does see them as pawns, but she still cares about John and Rosey as her family.) Sociopaths like getting into relationships where they can control their partner, mostly through emotional manipulation and abuse resulting in sometimes Stockholm syndrome. Rather than pawns, their significant others are seen as more toys that they feel they have a right to treat however they wish. I wouldn't get near her with a ten foot pole!
Very good analysis and I fully agree with you. The only thing is that Sherlock knows the term "high functioning" as he claimed to be a so-called "high functioning sociopath". "High functioning" fits mostly into the autistic spectrum in connection with high intelligence, Asperger syndrome belongs to it, when you search for that term. May be Sherlock knows he is autistic, it's possible. Who knows. And that Mary is in fact a sociopath I believe without any doubt. You have characterized her so well and I have nothing to add. Her love for John was selfish from the beginning, Sherlock stood only in the way and he had to go out of the picture, because she didn't want to share John with anyone, even not with Sherlock. It's actually a good comparison to Eurus, who was obsessed with her brother since childhood, and for this reason had Victor to die. It is the same selfish and unhealthy love like Mary had for John. The only difference is that Eurus is a psychopath, but the features compare to a sociopath are of course similar. And Moriarty is so clearly a psychopath, also for me. Agree!
She's SO coming back in Season Five! Her "death" was too staged. Too gothic, too theatrical. Too unrealistically dramatic, for someone like her. Seemed only made that way (with the aggravating of the "affair" with Eurus, who also CASUALLY was working with Moriarty), only to make John feel worst, most guilty for "wanting more than Mary" (to leave her, most probably, for Sherlock), and ultimately, to force them apart. They both felt so responsible for it, even though it was only HER who literally jumped in front of a bullet, and who also made sure to name their daughter after herself, almost as if to make sure he'll never forget her. It all seemed a little too in place. Specially, those VERY Moriarty-like post mortem messages she "supposedly" left for them, MONTHS ahead. And we must remember that the A.G.R.A treasure was actually empty, so it's also probable that the whole episode, and that plot with those assassins was fake too. (Also, as a quick reminder, John's blog already has a case called The Six Thatchers, about an abusive guy who had faked a break in, to hide the fact that he had killed his boyfriend in a pottery room, and hid the knife inside one of six figures of Margaret Thatcher, with Devil horns, wich later had been sold, and he was breaking into the houses of those who bought them, trying to get it back, to get rid of it, because it had his INITIALS on. And the case had been brought to Sherlock by the victim's best friend, Sally, who was also in love with him, because the suspected that it had been his boyfriend... And it turned out to be true. Sherlock AND theimprobableone described the case as "Disappointingly simple". Do with that as you may.) ;)
Sorry, but Mary will not come back in a possible season 5. She is really dead. Did you not watch? It's like in the ACD storys, Mary died even here. The original canon was always just the two of them, Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson, not three, and Moffat and Gatiss are followed that and made the end of Tfp like this. And if Mary really will come back, can it happen only in flashbacks. Just saying.
Oh, there will be only John and Sherlock, of course. However, what really caught my eye is how... "staged" "Mary's death" was. Like, literally the way Molly descrived when saying: "It's not like you see in the movies. It's not like there's a big spurge of blood and you fly backwards." And her Death served so well to Moriarty's plans! It nearly ruined everything between Sherlock and John. And even 'Mary ' names her daughter after herself, as if to make sure that John "does not forget her", much like the Abominable Bride she is meant to represent. Not to mention all those "Miss me?"/"Miss you" bizarre dvds, so precisely timed. It's all very suspicious if you ask me...
@@wandanemer2630 Yes agree with your point of view. But I think Mary had this all very well planned. But also her death? I think no, that was a spontaneous reaction to save Sherlocks life, because she felt a kind of late remorse for shooting Sherlock nearly to death? Because of that sacrificed for him? I really don't know. Mary was always selfish in her love for John.
@@christinabeyer9298 Precisely. She has always been selfish about John. Why would she suddenly decide to sacrifice herself FOR SHERLOCK of all people? It makes much more sense if this was all part of The Plan. Think, also, that Eurus was working for Moriarty at the time, and that John's cheating was also staged. Of course "Mary" would know about it, and let it happen. Most probably to add on the guilt John would feel after her Death. It works really well as a way to make sure that John doesn't get together with Sherlock once Mary was out of the picture. (It actually works for both of them) If we know that Moriarty likes to use the strategy of giving some hope just to take it away and make it all more painful, this scenario fits just right!
@@wandanemer2630 Exactly! And Sherlocks and Marys friendship seems always so beautiful, but I think only Sherlock meant it honest with it. Mary always followed her own goals. She sacrificed her own life just for a good friend? And then tell him later he should go through hell in her video message? That makes actually no sense. It seems to me Mary wanted to blame both - and Sherlock and John bring apart. What I don't really understand why Sherlock could so easily forgave Mary for shooting him and still can be her friend, and Eurus for killing his childhood friend Victor. Both, Mary and Eurus seemed always psychopathic to me in their behavior. Psychopaths are selfish, they would never act so selfless to people like Sherlock does and their "love" is more obsession. Moriarty was obsessed with Sherlock, Mary with John, Eurus with Sherlock. And psychopaths are not able to show honest regret or guilt when they do something wrong, because they don't have real feelings.Neither Mary or Eurus apologized to Sherlock for that what they did to him. And Eurus was the actual head behind the "Miss me" campaign. She was part of the plan to "burn out the heart" out of Sherlock.
AAHHHHH I SQUEALED WHEN I SAW THIS NOTIFICATION!! Been waiting for a Mary video:D btw you are absolutly lovely and have given me a space to fangirl and not be judged ❤❤
omg I wish that you would make some videos on the 4th season too, it explains a lot too and it even adds more to your theories. I love your videos. Tho season 4 ruins some things and I understand why people hate it, it would be still great to see your opinions and theories on it.
Time to make myself a cuppa and draw some Johnlock stuff while watching this! Thanks for saving my evening and putting what I imagine to be an insane amount of time and effort into this series - it always cheers me up, especially when I feel like Johnlock might not actually be confirmed in the show after all... so thank you ♥
I am just watching hobbit on tv and I started fangirling when I saw the notification about your new video. I am soo so excited and I am just waiting for the ads to watch it
Ah when i see the notifications, i almost too happy to see you again rebekah! :D btw amanda such a great actress, she can makes the Mary, antagonist, lives, and make a great impression! she is also so beautiful!
You know, another thing I just noticed while being shown these snippets that I didn't think of on my other full viewings of that season? Sherlock says that he's deduced Mary's on the run from something, but in some ways that doesn't really make a lot of sense. Neither does what's said to her in this most recent season before she's killed. She's on the run from something, she just wanted a happy normal life. Then...she made an awfully curious choice in mate if she wanted to hide and wanted a normal, happy life. Nothing about John Watson and his lifestyle, the lifestyle he craves and needs and always seeks out one way or another eventually, is conducive to either of those goals. Nothing about the stuff happening with Mary in the latest season makes any sense and I keep thinking surely we'll /eventually/ get another season that will shed more light, despite the fact of what happened. We may have to wait a few years, since Martin and Ben's schedules are so packed but we're used to that anyway.
You're right on that one! So many things don't add up! I actually believe the whole thing was planned in advance. (The whole season, really) Starting with Eurus flirting with John on that bus, those cases, "Mary's backstory", her letter, her videos and her unlikely "death". I think it was all staged, to do the most possible damage to Sherlock and John's relationship, and to their hearts. We know Eurus was working for Moriarty, we know Culverton was working with Eurus (how else did she get Faith's original note, if not from him), and by extention, also Mycroft and "Mary". And before that, also Magnussen, Irene, etc. Why not also the secretary that shot her? "Mary" herself gave Sherlock the clue to get to her! If Mrs Norbury was also colaborating with Moriarty, "Mary" could have very well have faked her own death. (Probably at Moriarty's orders) And doing so, she made utterly sure of nearly ruining Sherlock and John's chances for ever! The guilt that John (with his high morals) felt already about his thing with Eurus, was only *worsened*, after "Mary's Sacrifice". And it left him so disgusted with himself that the very thought of wanting "more" (wanting Sherlock) became shameful to him. He pushed Sherlock away out of guilt, and probably thought that if he didn't even deserve "Mary", how could he possibly deserve Sherlock? And keep in mind that he still believes what Sherlock said to him before going into cardiac arrest: that he's a sociopath, and that it's all "his fault". And now even more, for "wanting Sherlock", and not being the man his wife wanting him to be. So he took it out on Sherlock (while furious with himself), so he would leave him alone and John doesn't get to have any chance with him again. Mary, in the meantime, effectively screwed up their chances of passing the point they were at in season 2 (if not even worse). Made sure John will always have a reminder of her, by naming Baby Rosie after herself, made them suffer unspeakably, individually, and cemented it all with a video about how "It doesn't matter who they truly are. All that matters is the legend." I think her whole story was fake, just presented to get John and Sherlock to get invested (distracted) and ultimately watched her "die". Just so she can go away without fear of them ever getting together in the meantime. She'll *quite* probably be back like The Bride, for Season 5, whenever that happens.
Wanda Nemer how do you think she faked her death in front of John and Sherlock? The are, of course, tons of parallels between TAB and Mary’s demise and her staging her suicide could be one of them....but in front of a doctor aaaaand Sherlock Holmes? It’s like anticipating Moriarty being brought back to life, but he was actually sacrificing himself for the bigger picture. I believe Mary, like moriarty, obviously planned her death and like moriarty has done her bit. I’m open to being convinced otherwise tho soo....anyways, I agree s4 also has the element of wacky fakeness that was definitely intentional. However the inconsistency’s in Mary’s death scene only make sense if the scene itself is fake and not someone in it. Like her jumping in front of a bullet faster than possible.....sorry for the ramble
I am at work and cannot watch this yet. But know that I have been waiting for this and I will get some popcorn and enjoy this tonight! I love this series so much. Thank you for all the work and love you put into it.
I love the comment about the Clarence House cannibal: "quite a gambler, that woman" and twist our preconceptions and make the cannibal a woman... especially interesting for this scene.
@@wandanemer2630 Right, nothing in this series happened by accidence. Short time before was this client who said in this sense: "My wife spoke with satan." Sherlock threw him out of the flat because it was too boring for him. Right after that he found hints Eurus was the real head behind the " Miss me" campaign. And meanwhile John spoke with satan in human form who pretended to be his therapist, Sherlocks sister.
"Because you chose her" and "why is everything my fault" is too real... They're blaming John for Mary's manipulation. It makes sense for John to be so upset. I just want him to be happy :(
I get so excited with these episodes that I start squealing. It's the same squealing that happened when the S4 trailer dropped XD. Rebekah, you're amazing! These videos are my life tbh. Oh, and those air quotes are gold ;).
Hi Rebekah, I just wanted to say that I just started watching your videos yesterday, but I am already in LOVE! You answer every question that I ever had and make me go "Oh my God! How did I not see that before?!?!?!?!" Long story short, you're amazing and are one of my favorites!
Rebekah! You should totally do an episode at some point about locations if you haven't already (maybe I just didn't notice, I don't exactly watch these in order to be honest) or if you haven't planned one yet. I think the locations in which certain events and conversations take place are very central to TJLC, such as staircases. Primarily the one in 221B where lots of Johnlock stuff happens, and also the staircase in ASIP at Jennifer's crime scene and the staircase in HLV that Sherlock climbs when he's coming back to life for John. Just a thought! I'm sure you could do a much better analysis than I can!
I am so looking forward to the videos of the season 4 episodes because frankly, I don't get it anymore and i am hella confused about what they're trying to do! Especially regarding "Mary" and Johnlock. They seem to throw everything away and start forcing heterosexual... feelings onto John and also Sherlock. I'm starting to get scared, that they might not go for Johnlock in the end anyway, because... "reasons". And that would not only break my heart but also my faith that we might actually be at a point were just can two male main characters have a god damn relationship!
Trust me, I flet the same. But, on a second viewing, it seems really clear to me that the whole thing with "Mary" was planned. If John's "cheating" with Eurus was planned, and we know it was, why wouldn't "Mary's Death"? Think about it, it all seems too forced, doesn't it? If Moriarty planted Mary to marry John, to keep him form going back to Sherlock, and to make them both suffer, planting Eurus, and a "noble, redeeming" death, doesn't seem too unthinkable. John was so broken after 'Mary's Death', not out of grief, but out of guilt, just like Sherlock. He was so disgusted with himself that he shut Sherlock away, took his anger on him and then punished himslef, "for wanting more". It was all too well crafted, to rip them both apart, even after "Mary" was gone. Seemed to me like the whole thing was part of Moriarty's scheme. (through Eurus, Culberton, "Mary" and even Mycroft, all of who WE KNOW are connected to Moriarty) And Baby Rosie as well, having "Mary"'s name, is a constant reminder of her. No matter what they do, even if they're back living together, she's not gone from their lives. And that, while terrifying, makes much more sense that some random "straight love all along" scenario.
This the first time I've disagreed with a character analysis you've done. Which is fine. It was still fun to watch. I do think that Sherlock bascially turned off his brain when it came to Mary, out of his guilt over making John sad due to the fake suicide. And led to all this mess.
Literally screamed when I saw the notification! I've been waiting for this video forever :D Your videos are amazing and you are amazing and Johnlock is amazing and life is good! Thank you for making these :)
But John said that they had a scan & think it's a girl. & even though he is not Sherlock,John is not dull & he's a doctor. So... it seems a bit hard to believe that Mary is faking the pregnancy. Even though I'd really really REALLY like that
Rebekah TJLC Explained hey :) John is too caring not to go to the scan of his kid. I'm 100% sure of it. & I'm pretty sure that he didn't literally not speak to her for 6 months.
If I hadn't been in the fandom during the airing of season 3 some of the arguments of johnlockers hating Mary just because would have some (very flimsy) basis. But during the airing and before HLV there was a HUGE chunk of johnlockers who LOVED Mary and started shipping OT3. It's part of what makes the reveal in HLV so wonderful as a plot twist. The writers took a character that we were predisposed to disliking. Made us LOVE her (the way I think Sherlock honestly liked Mary before HLV even if it was killing him) and then pulled the rug out from under us the same way as the twist did for the characters.
I always found it hard to understand how anyone could like Mary. I knew nothing about theories and speculations when I first watched all 3 seasons, and even though I believed in Johnlock, I wasn't against Mary. For, like, 30 seconds :D She acts awfully in that restaurant, and she keeps acting like that all the time. She shows John no support, even laughs at his pain and anger, diminishes him and is very controlling. I was confused why they made her so unlikable until she was revealed as a villain.
True! I've read many comments saying that making her evil would "simplify her", but it's actually the oposite! I love 'Mary' as a character, and I am CERTAIN that she's a villain. Her wickedness does not take away form her charisma or complexity, at all.
Ahh I love you and your videos so much, please keep making them! They are so thoughtful and deep and you make me notice all the details I haven't previously seen :)
Yay! These are always so great and I can't wait for TAB episodes. Your little ramble at the end is adorable and I love seeing somebody so passionate about something. Don't overwork yourself okay? Remember; Don't do school, drink your sleep, and get eight hours of drugs.
I am so damned excited for the videos on TAB. On top of that, I had an absolutely horrible day/evening and coming home to this upload made everything worth it. As I say with each comment, thank you for your hard work and enthusiasm.
I actually gasped when I saw this video in my feed. I've been looking forward to it for awhile now. Thanks so much for doing this series Rebecca, we all appreciate it. :)
It all continues to be true. I actually believe she pulled of an Actual Abominable Bride and faked her death. Those dvds are the most Staged shit since Sherlock's proposal to Janine!
Peeking in closer at that unpublished blog entry at 16:56, it says "Sherlock was convinced Julia (John?) had been murdered in some way. He didn't believe that a SNAKE could get into someone's BEDROOM..." i mean...foreshadowing much
Something interesting I noticed, while listening to the shouting while John is in the bonfire, is that it sounds like Mary is screaming "Get up John!" and it sounds condescending and mocking almost? Not sure if it's just me, but I just thought it was interesting.
@@wandanemer2630 Yes, that's a very good question. Would only makes sense when she was herself involved in this plan. She knew immediately it was a skip code. How would she know that when she was just a normal nurse in a medical practice?
You have singlehandedly convinced me of Johnlock more than I thought possible, I've been marathoning your entire series and all the props, but for once I disagree. I don't think Mary is this evil. I don't think after all the things she said when she died (like why lie then) and all the things she said in 3x3 that she didn't love John and Sherlock. She died for Sherlock, and while a pregnancy may have been shortsighted if she planned it, her whole plan kind of shortsighted if she did, I don't think she'd cheat on John to get pregnant. Besides Sherlock threatened David, and he didn't seem like he was getting anything from Mary. He seemed as unfulfilled and doe eyes as Molly was in season 1. I genuinely liked Mary. She's complex and dark, yet witty and almost charming, and I don't doubt she cares, and I don't doubt she really does love John and Sherlock in her own bizarre way. Often I feel like characters such as Mary (other shows have had similar characters) are overly hated on because they pose a threat to the ship, but she's been shown to not be a true threat to the boys relationship, they're too close for that, so I don't understand the heavy vilification. We know from Mycroft that good people can get wrapped up in bad things, just look at him and Moriarty, so I don't think it's fair to view her so coldly and diminish her complexity. I don't even doubt that John loved her in a way. He just will never love anyone more than Sherlock, but that doesn't mean Mary isn't important to him.
You are right, Mary for sure wasn't that evil. And she didn't work for Moriarty. She loved John and Sherlock. And both of them obviously loved her. Mary wasn't a part of a demon's war against Sherlock and this is just great) I liked Mary too. Also, I think Moriarty is really dead (well, I hope so, because faking his death wouldn't make any sense), and I doubt that Moriarty was in love with Sherlock and tried to destroy him just because Sherlock didn't want to be his boyfriend or something - this is a childish idea and I do hope it's not what Mofftiss are trying to tell us. Moriarty is dead which means, I believe, there is something more complex behind the game. Actually, there are a lot of things in these videos to be disagree with. But Rebekah's done an interesting and great job anyway and it's cool. Before Series 4 it was possible to see Sherlock as a gay man, but in S4E2 we can see that he is a kinda interested in Irene Adler. And John is still strongly interested in women. John and Sherlock love each other, sure, but at the moment there is no any evidence that there is a sexual love between our Baker Street Boys and I think it is not what is this show about. Even if we will see them being a couple tonight (well, I doubt that), it is definitely not the main plot of the show. 'All roads lead back to Baker Street' but it doesn't necessarily mean they have to be a romantic couple to be there together.
@@hettyherz You are wrong is these points: There weren't any signs in Tld that John is interested in women here. Where come you up on this idea? And to the relationship between Sherlock and Irene I say only this: Irene Adler was never the alleged "love interest' to Sherlock. That's stated. He didn't want anything from her personally, he is an avid puzzle solver and was only obsessed to decipher her phone code. And Irene played the whole time with him, beated and drugged him and openly flirted with him. But Sherlock never wanted "dinner" with Irene, because he wasn't hungry for her. In Tld texted Irene Sherlock because it was his birthday. And it was only texting, not more, in his words a bad idea. Irene is only a nice memory to him since he saved her, so that she could start in a new life, and this probably not alone, she took certainly Kate with her, her personal assistant and girlfriend. But when you have attentionally watched the whole series, you would have noticed that Sherlock never had a serious relationship with a woman, even not with Irene. Final statement: Girlfriends are not really Sherlocks area. That is canon, actually since the time of Conan Doyle. It's a Sherlock and John story, not more but even not less. And at the end they are a family who raise Johns child together. More I don't need.
@@christinabeyer9298 How on Earth have you managed to start with "There weren't any signs in Tld that John is interested in women, there aren't signs of it" and then end up with "Final statement: Girlfriends are not really Sherlock's area"?) John has always been into girls. He loved dating women. He loved his wife. He genuinely wanted more with Sherlock's sister before he knew who she was. Through the whole BBC series, there are tons of obvious signs of John's sexual interest in women. For an adult person, there is a great difference between a love interest and a romance in general "to be a kinda interested in". Irene likes Sherlock and he likes her otherwise he would never stay in touch. They've flirted, maintain contact, but this doesn't mean he or she wants to be a couple and love each other "till death them do part". Sherlock, being more likely an Aspergers guy as John had mentioned once, learns to appreciate the care of others and to give the care back, to show it. It is a story about John and Sherlock, but it's not a romantic love story - it is much more and better than that: it's a very close and endless friendship story, the friendship you would hardly frequently meet in real life.
@@hettyherz Yes, I agree with the most what you have said, but when you have attentionally watched Tld, after Marys death wasn't anymore a woman in Johns life, til the end of the last episode. Yes, John dated many women before ThoB, but he had never a seriously relationship with one of them. Tons of obvious signs of Johns sexual interest in women? When? I saw nothing like this. And everyone who has eyes in his head, saw that his marriage with Mary was anything but happy. You have watched this video and still think that this was a happy marriage between them? Yes, I think that Mary really loved John, but never this way in return from John. He was so clearly unsatisfied. By the way, John only was satisfied und fulfilled when he was together with Sherlock at one of her common adventures. His normal life was so boring to him. And when Mary died and she said to John that he was her whole world, he didn't give an answer to her. Yes, John always said that he is not gay but he never said he is straight. Excuse me please, but girlfriends aren't really Sherlocks area, and his "love" for Irene was more admiration, respect and caring about someone than real love. And he saved her life only for the reason, because noone could have do that, he was the only one. The only one who has flirted was Irene with Sherlock, and you don't have to forget, that she get their orders from Moriarty how to treat him, she worked for him. But Sherlock had at no point any "romantic" interest in Irene. Yes, and in his own autistic way (I think too, he has the Asperger syndrome) he really loves John, he has in fact always deeply cared for him. Noone can deny it, and this possibly since the beginning when he took John to their first common case. Of course I agree with all what you said about Mary. I saw her never as a "villain." And I liked her right from start. It was sad when she died, but it was her own decision. She didn't want to get in the way of the boys, because three are always one too many. And with the last words in your comment I agree. Have a good day. Bye.
the thing is, john couldn't have seen it, he never suspected it which proves that john never truly loved mary bc she didn't come across as the type of person he likes
Absolutely! In fact, by the time she "died", John felt horrible BECAUSE he didn't love her, and (much like Sherlock, after Irene's "death") he wondered if he *should* have loved her. After all, he still believes Sherlock is "his best friend, who is a sociopath and solves crimes not to get high", like he told him in HLV. And if he had actually loved "Mary", instead of "wanting more", none if that would have happened. But in the end "it's always his fault", and that's what caused all that suffering and rage and hurt, when she "died". John wasn't "grieving", he was guilt-ridden and furious with himself, and not *with* Sherlock, but rather *for* Sherlock. It felt easier to blame Sherlock out loud, push him away so he doesn't *have to* love him anymore, and imagining Mary, punishing him. But, after TLD and the real danger Sherlock had been in, he was finally able to reach out to him again. But he's still consumed with guilt (more even now, after what he did to Sherlock himself), so he's in the same place Sherlock was in during Season 3: Utterly remorsefull, convinced that he doesn't *deserve to even be* in his life anymore, silently devoted and thankfull. It sucks. Apparently, he moved past the guilt of "Mary's death" by now, but he's still deeply affected by his guilt over Sherlock. He has no idea about Sherlock's feelings, and now, thanks to all that mess, he's not even gonna *try* with him any time soon. Even while living together again, and without "Mary" around.
I think she knows who Sherlock is because shes laughing when Sherlock is talking to John like "Oh look Johns friends back" and says "Well I like him". Like she knew the whole time and isnt the least bit phased. Despite wanting John though she seems to love Sherlock and want those two together.
Have I mentioned how much I love these videos? Well.... I love these videos! Rebekah, you've helped me so much with looking deeper into literature and analyzing the information I've taken in. In fact, I'm currently working on collecting research for a meta I'm writing that I don't think many people in the Sherlock fandom have noticed/know about! So, thank you! I'll be sure to link either the video link or meta link when I'm done!
Well I've thought since Mofitiss are such ACD fanboys, that Mary would somehow would be eliminated. In the canon Mary dies but no reason for her death is given, but the baby is another matter. I just can't see Mofitiss killing a baby. But both have said all bets are off for this next series and John did have a baby with him during setlock. True we do not know the context, but I'm really curious of what they will do with the baby if Mary is indeed killed off.
rewatching this after the six thatchers aired... trying to understand what happened... her story cannot possibly be over. There's more to what she is than just what was revealed.
Oh, there WILL be more. Sje made herself look *too good* in Season 4. Note to remember that Eurus' fling with John was planned, and that both her and 'Mary' were working for Moriarty at the time! John already wanted to leave her the moment Sherlock came back into his life, and the pregnency was only a temporary safe. If she needed to "disapear", as part of the Plan, what better way to make sure John doesn't run back to Sherlock, than staging an infidelity (with someone who Looks like Sherlock) and a "noble, selfless" death? Thus making Good, Honorable John feel so disgusted with himself that he'll push Sherlock away "for good". Making Sherlock suffer as well in the process (let's add in Baby Watson being named after her, too) , with some specific post-mortem message to make it all worse. And, speaking of wich, those dvds CANNOT be sincere. At all.
real quick. i love John's mini Sherlock coat in The Empty House. But ye, im super curious about the whole baby thing. Apparently, the baby will actually be there cuz of Ben and Martin strutting around with the kiddo a kangaroo pouch in setlock. very adorable, but what in the world are they planning? especially since Mary could possibly play as a villain. WhAt Is EvEn GoInG oN!? btw I'm totally gonna draw Connie and Steven as Sherlock and John.
I was in class when i got the notification and started freaking out, sadly i had 3 more lectures until i had free time, im so excited to watch this one
you missed something! I can't believe this but… the criminal discovered at the end of canon story, The Adventure of the Golden Pince-Nez was definitely a representation of Mary. The proof? She was short-sighted, and a villain. It's really perfect, and I think Moftiss will probably do something with her that they did in this story.
I think John´s face in the final moment of the forgiving scene means that he actually read the content of the flash drive and might be planing something. Just my opinion, of course.
Sherlock loves John so much that it hurts him and it physically hurts *me*
This series is longer than the Sherlock series itself. And by a long shot
Peperle St-Jacques its impressive how much content is in the show...
it's the series while i'm waiting the series

Just one minor detail: my father is a doctor, and whe he saw the scene when sherlock is shot,he was really surprised he survived. He told me that the shot was in a crucial point and that he should be *dead*.

And i don't think that was a mistake.

I litterally made a friend today because I was watching this during English class and this guy says to me "Umm...is that TJLC?". I have a new friend now 😁
Nicole Guth omg that's so see some!!!
Nick Guth awwwwwww
When Sherlock hands her a list of people who hate her.... like..... sherlock prepared that list for himself. He had to make new friends or at least find allies in the battlefield (the wedding)
I love how Amanda smiles every time she talk about the show. Her smiles screams tjlc and when she talked about Mary's pregnacy she called Mary an elephant. This women can't stop hinting.
I love how you move things in the back in each episode. Like, now you have a sign that reads ''liar''😂

Sam R been binge watching over the past week
'Mary' is probably the best villain I have encountered in any fictional story till date. And in regards to the show, she is better than Moriarty, Magnussen, and every villain combined, because she has managed to fool the characters themselves, of course, and nearly the entire audience for an entire season. And even after TAB, some people still believe she's a goodie. Lovely video, as always! :)
Jᴜɴɢʟɪ Mᴏɴᴋᴇʏ season 4 just proved you wrong.
Isolation party Are you sure?
Jᴜɴɢʟɪ Mᴏɴᴋᴇʏ it's pretty clear at this moment, mary thankfully wasn't a villain.
Isolation party Whatever you say, your lordship.
Jᴜɴɢʟɪ Mᴏɴᴋᴇʏ It's not that hard admitting you were wrong. Not that i care tho.
Rebekah TJLC Explained
Rebekah TJLC Explained Thanks I thought that's how she was introduced. The fact that she was working for moriaty eliminates the possibility of her being a love interest for Sherlock. People are just to blind to see that I think
Amanda loves play the villains so she is so happy for a series 4. Of course, 'Mary' is the devil, how people can not see this ?!
Ewa Jezierska she probably had to watch her husband make out with Ben many times.....
and applauded him
Yeah. She probably did! HahahaXD
XOXO
excellent catch! the cinematography alone confirms TJLC, over and over. :)
No wonder Mary's real name's initials are AGRA because she is AGRAVATING HAHAHahaha...
I'll see myself out...

That whole thing might even be fake as well, for all we know!! We only saw what 'Mary' showed us, and we all should know by now not to trust her.
If Mary is his crutch then John's heterosexuality is his psychosomatic limp!! 😂
Oh my god!
Sabrina White or it was to make him suffer that lil while longer. I mean, a head shot would of been instant death...
Mary shot Sherlock in the pericardium, he flatlined, the doctors gave him up, he was really dead, and could restart his heart just because mind palace Moriarty said John Watson is definetly is in danger (from his wife).
The liar sign in the back... I see what you did there
she had more fun filming season 4... reminder: She said that is was fun to shoot Benedict. So what will happen in S4? ;)
can i ask you something? Do you have a bee tattoo at your wrist? Ah, and where are you from? because you said that you don't know so much about english media :)
Oh my god the game is on
I get almost as excited about a new TJLCE episode as I am about season 4 of Sherlock being a thing that will happen next year...and that is about as excited as I could possibly get...
I mean Mary's technically introduced 3 times with her face hidden if you count TAB
"For some reason, people always give up after three..."
yeah, it is really confusing in the books sometime.
NoHomo Plot device is a Plot Device.
Agree!
Oh My God, you're so very right! I absolutely agree!
You again, make my day a little better :)
Been waiting for a Mary video:D

i missed your videos so much i literally started rewatching them.
Thank you Rebekah, you made my day x.
Paula Nuñez i think im on my sixth round of watching them...
omg I wish that you would make some videos on the 4th season too, it explains a lot too and it even adds more to your theories.
btw amanda such a great actress, she can makes the Mary, antagonist, lives, and make a great impression! she is also so beautiful!
All that matters is the legend."
I think her whole story was fake, just presented to get John and Sherlock to get invested (distracted) and ultimately watched her "die".
@@rachelmcgahey6302
Mary is really dead, even in Conan Doyle's stories she died.
The happy end: Sherlock, John and Rosie as happy family.
I am at work and cannot watch this yet. But know that I have been waiting for this and I will get some popcorn and enjoy this tonight! I love this series so much. Thank you for all the work and love you put into it.
Oooooo. Been waiting for this for so long.

@@christinabeyer9298 You're right!
@@wandanemer2630 Thank you.
"Because you chose her" and "why is everything my fault" is too real... They're blaming John for Mary's manipulation. It makes sense for John to be so upset. I just want him to be happy :(
Man my entire perspective changed after I watched this video. Thanks, Rebekah!!
Holy heck, I love literary analysis. These just make me so happy.
Thank you, THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH! I am waiting this for AGES!
Rebekah TJLC Explained Thanks so much for your response! I'll definitely check it out! :)
And that, while terrifying, makes much more sense that some random "straight love all along" scenario.
i was having such a hard week and seeing you uploaded just made everything so much better so thank you
This the first time I've disagreed with a character analysis you've done. Which is fine. It was still fun to watch. I do think that Sherlock bascially turned off his brain when it came to Mary, out of his guilt over making John sad due to the fake suicide. And led to all this mess.
it was worth the wait
Literally screamed when I saw the notification! I've been waiting for this video forever :D Your videos are amazing and you are amazing and Johnlock is amazing and life is good! Thank you for making these :)
But John said that they had a scan & think it's a girl. & even though he is not Sherlock,John is not dull & he's a doctor. So... it seems a bit hard to believe that Mary is faking the pregnancy. Even though I'd really really REALLY like that
She could always get fake results :p
Kayla Burney while he is there ?
Rebekah TJLC Explained hey :) John is too caring not to go to the scan of his kid. I'm 100% sure of it. & I'm pretty sure that he didn't literally not speak to her for 6 months.
I wouldn't count on it Phi, he *really* hated "Mary".
Kayla Burney I know that. But he doesn't hate the baby
I really like seeing your ecstatic face, it's- contagious. Thankyou for making us smiling along with you.
I been waiting so long for this, THANKS
YESSS IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS VIDEOOO!! amazing job as always!!!
i've been waiting for another of your videos with so much excitement!!! thank you so much for your amazing work and for making my day! 💕
oh fuck now i REALLY don't want to go out tonight
Celeste Blu dont.
As I say with each comment, thank you for your hard work and enthusiasm.
off topic but your fashion sense is perfect omg!!
I actually gasped when I saw this video in my feed. I've been looking forward to it for awhile now. Thanks so much for doing this series Rebecca, we all appreciate it. :)
*Rebekah, sorry about that.
Arghhh I really need a new episode on Mary, given everything we know by now
It all continues to be true. I actually believe she pulled of an Actual Abominable Bride and faked her death. Those dvds are the most Staged shit since Sherlock's proposal to Janine!
Take a look at Shakespeare's sonnet 12. I think it can describe Mary's motivations behind staying with John.
Peeking in closer at that unpublished blog entry at 16:56, it says "Sherlock was convinced Julia (John?) had been murdered in some way. He didn't believe that a SNAKE could get into someone's BEDROOM..." i mean...foreshadowing much
Damn.
Oh girl, you're a savage. Thanks for cheering up my day!
Something interesting I noticed, while listening to the shouting while John is in the bonfire, is that it sounds like Mary is screaming "Get up John!" and it sounds condescending and mocking almost? Not sure if it's just me, but I just thought it was interesting.
And how did she know he was lying down and not, like, say, sitting, or tied up?
@@wandanemer2630 Yes, that's a very good question. Would only makes sense when she was herself involved in
this plan.
@@christinabeyer9298 How on Earth have you managed to start with "There weren't any signs in Tld that John is interested in women, there aren't signs of it" and then end up with "Final statement: Girlfriends are not really Sherlock's area"?)
John has always been into girls.
Bye.
Thank you Rebekah ! You always give us hope !
the thing is, john couldn't have seen it, he never suspected it which proves that john never truly loved mary bc she didn't come across as the type of person he likes
But he's still consumed with guilt (more even now, after what he did to Sherlock himself), so he's in the same place Sherlock was in during Season 3:
Utterly remorsefull, convinced that he doesn't *deserve to even be* in his life anymore, silently devoted and thankfull.
Watching these post season 4 hits different. You were all so hopeful😭
I AM READY TO BELIEVE gosh i think i am just as excited as you are~ thank you for your great work rebekah ;;;w;;;
I think she knows who Sherlock is because shes laughing when Sherlock is talking to John like "Oh look Johns friends back" and says "Well I like him". Like she knew the whole time and isnt the least bit phased. Despite wanting John though she seems to love Sherlock and want those two together.
Sheeee did kill Sherlock tho. He kinda was literally dead.
I literally screamed when i saw this. I have been looking forward to this!
I love your videos, and I'm really excited about the TAB episode *-*
omg yassssssssss! you just made my day and I haven't even watched the video yet
I watch all yours episode in one day 😂 You're so fabulous!!! Thank you so much for all 😍
(sorry if I speak weird I'm French)
Thank you So much for this video, I've been wanting for it the whoke week!!!
I haven't watched yet but I'm sure it's great, as always😆😆😆😊😉
Well I've thought since Mofitiss are such ACD fanboys, that Mary would somehow would be eliminated. In the canon Mary dies but no reason for her death is given, but the baby is another matter. I just can't see Mofitiss killing a baby. But both have said all bets are off for this next series and John did have a baby with him during setlock. True we do not know the context, but I'm really curious of what they will do with the baby if Mary is indeed killed off.
I love this like every video of yours❤️❤️
I can't wait for season 4 omggggg
rewatching this after the six thatchers aired... trying to understand what happened... her story cannot possibly be over.
At all.
One of my favourite episodes so far...thank you for your videos!! Kisses from Italy
i was already overwhelmed by this brilliant episode..., BUT REBAKAH SAYING 'FUCKING'??? Ended. Me.
Another fantastic episode! Thank you!
real quick. i love John's mini Sherlock coat in The Empty House.
It was sooo good
Thank you so much for this series!!! Absolutely love it, keep up the amazing work! xxx
YAY!! I've been looking forward to this! I love you videos!
hahahah the end was cute
Do your fingers hurt from all the airquotes? :)
you missed something! I can't believe this but… the criminal discovered at the end of canon story, The Adventure of the Golden Pince-Nez was definitely a representation of Mary. The proof? She was short-sighted, and a villain. It's really perfect, and I think Moftiss will probably do something with her that they did in this story.
YES! I've been looking forward to this episode :)
I think John´s face in the final moment of the forgiving scene means that he actually read the content of the flash drive and might be planing something. Just my opinion, of course.
I think he'll rehuse that phrase when "Mary" comes back and they finally confront her.
I just wanna say that you're amazing 😁I could listen to you for hours, not kidding
Great video again💕😁
also, oooo!!! my friend's question to Amanda appeared yay!!! (Helena love, you're famous ❤)
I love your excitement, Rebekah, you BE excited! This was great, thanks so much for sharing it with us. ^5
