Unpopular opinion, I love Moria. I love his ability( I'm biased because I'm a big horror fan) and tbh i love the fact that he basically fell into a deep depression that caused him to lose his former motivations. I feel as though this character is extremely redeemable. Seeing an in shape formidable Moria is one of my dreams for the series.
To think that this weirdo zombie obsessed guy used to be actually phisically strong and that he deeply cared for his crewmates is surprising, really makes you wonder how incredibly traumatising his fight with Kaido must have been
Luca Bertani kind of like Luffy losing his brother but gets convinced that he has more to live for (his crew) Moria never had that and with his new crew it does seem he cares for willing to fight a Yonkou to find him.
But big mom has Prometheus, Zeus (or Hera), and Napoleon though and her DF literally can affect nature (just like water, clouds, trees, flowers, fire, and even lightning) but Moria's DF only affects humans.
You know the more I think about Moria, the more I like him. He seemed really attached to his former crew and never got out of that depression of losing them. I even go so far and say he was a lot like Luffy back in his prime.

Than of course losing more times in the War and nearly dying but luckily escaping but tragedy struck again~ Spoilers from recent chapters. He lost one of his crew members to the Blackbeard pirates. It's so sad really~ he kind of acts like a reverse Luffy in a sense: lazy, a trickster, uses others and barely fights himself. I would what he was like before he fought Kaido~?😢

It might be a funny arc overall for Thriller Bark but Moria used to be just as strong as Kaido or at least on par with him. Kaido broke Moria. His entire crew was killed and he was left all alone. That would break most anyone. Imagine how Luffy would feel if his entire crew was killed? Could Luffy still become the Pirate King if he lost everyone?
Remember how much of a reck Luffy was with Ace's Death? Yeah... Imagine *That* to his entire crew with no survivors and no one to help him out, No Raleigh, No Kuma, No Jinbe, No Dragon... Rember, the only reason he stopped going on a rampage and nearly killing himself out of greif was because A: Jinbei talked him down. B: His crew.was still alive. Without both A or B, Luffy would be a lot worse off.
Yep, Moria, just like Crocodile, was the Luffy of his generation, but one who gave up on dreams. They are what Luffy would have been if he didn't have the Strawhats at his side.
I absolutely LOVE Moriah. He's lazy, he's a fat jerk, and he has layers of depression and trauma lmao HE KEEPS SURVIVING and I really hope we see him redeemed. I also really want him and Perona reunited. I adore that he raised her like his daughter.
When I got into one piece it was when the anime had just started the thriller bark arc and ever since then I have been a huge moria fan. Will forever be one of my favs
I love how gecko was so powerful that he rivaled kiado once in his life and survived. It’s a shame we didn’t get to see him fight Luffy while at his prime but still the character demonstrated the power that Luffy would face in the new world just multiplied.
Random theory. Moria never specifically said Kaido killed his crew. From what we know about his powers, it is entirely possbile that Moria offed his own crew. Now stay with me here, and I'll explain. Moria's shadows asgard form is what put him on equal footing with Kaidou. It would also stand to reason that his crew was quite numerous, and would give their shadows to aid their captain. Finally, this infamous clash happened during the daytime. The way i see this going down is that this crew had their shadows lifted for Moria's Shadows Asgard form and hid in the ship or other shady areas. The battle would have destroyed the crew's hiding places, dousing them in sunlight. It would have been this shock that gave Kaido the opening to decimate Moria.
His crew came up with the idea and forced Moria to go with it as he was most reluctant to condemn his crew to a cursed existence, denied from the warmth of sunlight. Moria tearfully agreed and fought Kaido, throwing everything he had. Sadly Kaido was too strong and he destroyed Moria beating him to an inch of his life. Moria's devil fruit acted and absorbed all the shadows into his body in a bid to save his life. Unfortunately, since Moria digested all the shadows, the bodies of his crew could live no more and vaporised before his eyes. Moria screamed his anguish as his crew vanished and cried for three days. After that he resolved to change his strategy and build a zombie army so that what happened with his crew would never be repeated again

To be fair, Kaido technically helped Luffy beat Moria since Moria had a mental breakdown from Kaido killing his crew when he used Shadow Asgard. Remember, Moria is smart and Tactical... he not only outsmarted people like Usopp and Robin mid-battle but is on a similar fighting level (tactics wise) as Luffy. So imagine if Moria chose to hide until time was up? Switching with Doppleman. Even if they Kill Moria, the shadows wouldn't return unless purified. All he needed to do was keep Luffy from getting his shadow back until morning.
I have a theory that gecko Moria will be teaming up with Warpol. He’s the only character who has direct contact with Dr Vegapunk. Because vegapunk is wants warpols metal from the new island he colonized

Gecko Moria is OP when he had a dark advantages for his shadows devil fruit, while he fought luffy in dusk (couple minutes before sunrise) and daylight in marineford, so he always looks like weak. And even in the lastest anime, he met Blackbeard in daylight too, so he is pretty f*cked up. He is pretty much OP when he fight in a full dark environment, and the chances are so low. He lost, pretty much his crew is dead before him, his df only gain advantages when its night, i dont know, i feels bad for him man...

Luffy's Belief is opposite of Moriah . Luffy wanted to be stronger to protect his crew and become the Pirate King . While Moriah wanted to build a Zombie crew/ soldiers for them not to die because he don't want to experience again the Same fate his crew suffered from Kaido . He wanted to get a strong Shadow and a Strong Zombie Body and be Pirate King by that Method . Probably before , Moriah was much stronger back then when in his early pirate days but he stopped training because he thought that no matter how strong he is , his crew was still annihilated . I think that maybe Moriah was not a Devil fruit user back then .
Shadow shadow fruit the ability given to this guy moria it takes shadows and then gives bodies the personality of an alternative person and the shadow. When i saw luffys changes i had wondered what happened did 900 have similarities or you know so on come to find out it was a shadow duel of which was people vs themselves and another i didnt know he was a grand scale type no wonder im peaked
So, if I remember correctly Luffy got a Shadow(s? I dunno) inserted from the rebels and equipment to make him to nightmare Luffy. That means that Moria could be a great support, buffing allies by giving them Shadows of strong beaten enemies.

"Smarts" are a variety of things. I think that Moriah is the best battle strategist, while Crocodile is the best schemer. Doflamingo's schemes may have been more successful, but he had far more resources than Crocky. Mihawk might possess the most technical facts about the world of OP among the Warlords, and Jimbei might be the most emotionally mature. Even Luffy is the "smartest", he has better instinct than most wild animals.
Eh that's debatable. Jinbei is a former Warlord of the Sea whereas the Straw Hats were not. Yes Luffy had defeated Crocodile in Alabasta but it took him three attempts to do so, and against Moria he had the help of not only his crew but also the shadows of others for his Nightmare Luffy form as well. It's also important to note that Moria didn't/couldn't make full use of his Devil Fruit power in the fight against Jinbei. Not saying that Moria is the strongest or even the best villain in the One Piece universe but just that it's not that surprising to see Jinbei easily best Moria when you compare the power levels of the three (Luffy, Moria and Jinbei) at the time.
To be fair, in most places can Moria one shot everyone else. If Moria (somehow) managed to cut off kaido’s Shadow... would he die when he met sunlight.
We don't know if he had his fruit by that poiint in the story. So it is unclear if he did use it against Kaido. Also, the fact that he didn't use it in marineford might just come down to the fact that the writers realised its power and decided he didn't use it. that is the issue with deduction and assumption, we have no idea if it is real or not. For now is it just theories.

The anime just sort of glosses it over, with a pair of vague statements at different points in the Thriller Bark arc about Moria having both lost to Kaido and having lost the crew he had before he created Thriller Bark.

Crocodiles outlook on life came about when Whitbeard nearly slashed his face in half(and probably took his hand too). Doflamingo's outlook came first with his extremely traumatic childhood, and then the learning of truth's very few other people know about and would pay huge sum's, or kill to acquire. Moria's outlook came from getting severely wounded, and watching all of his friend's and crewmates getting slaughtered probably brutally thus causing such internal pain as to never wanting a "living" crew ever again. Boa's outlook is a common "all men are evil" point of view especially since most tenryubito are male and are indifferent to human life, and specifically brutal to slaves. Mihawk's just Mihawk and want's to do thing's that interest Mihawk. Buggy's got "god luck" syndrome. Kuma's a big old ?.
This video is missing stuff. You glossed over the best part about his devil fruit. Using what he calls "Doppelman" he can fight you with his shadow. The shadow cannot be killed and can change shape in various ways. If you go after his main body, he can instantaneously change positions with his shadow, effectively making him invincible if you cannot attack both him and Doppelman at the same time. He could defeat you from a far range with you being unable to do anything. He only lost to Luffy because he was too caught up on using zombies and 1-uping Luffy when it came to absorbing shadows. I wanted to know if Moria retains his shadow when he uses Doppelman. Like if he'd be destroyed in sunlight if he separated his shadow from himself. Though it'd have to just be speculation. It would explain why there wasn't much use of Doppelman in Marineford.

While I dont think that he and Moriah would come along well, probably less than with Sir Crocodile, it would be totally badass to see Nightmare Luffy back in actiom!

Gecko Moria is OP when he had a dark advantages for his shadows devil fruit, while he fought luffy in dusk (couple minutes before sunrise) and daylight in marineford, so he always looks like weak. And even in the lastest anime, he met Blackbeard in daylight too, so he is pretty f*cked up. He is pretty much OP when he fight in a full dark environment, and the chances are so low. He lost, pretty much his crew is dead before him, his df only gain advantages when its night, i dont know, i feels bad for him man...

Luffy's Belief is opposite of Moriah . Luffy wanted to be stronger to protect his crew and become the Pirate King .
While Moriah wanted to build a Zombie crew/ soldiers for them not to die because he don't want to experience again the Same fate his crew suffered from Kaido . He wanted to get a strong Shadow and a Strong Zombie Body and be Pirate King by that Method .
Probably before , Moriah was much stronger back then when in his early pirate days but he stopped training because he thought that no matter how strong he is , his crew was still annihilated . I think that maybe Moriah was not a Devil fruit user back then .
Shadow shadow fruit the ability given to this guy moria it takes shadows and then gives bodies the personality of an alternative person and the shadow. When i saw luffys changes i had wondered what happened did 900 have similarities or you know so on come to find out it was a shadow duel of which was people vs themselves and another i didnt know he was a grand scale type no wonder im peaked

I felt bad for him when DoFlamingo was ordered to kill him, poor guy.
So, if I remember correctly Luffy got a Shadow(s? I dunno) inserted from the rebels and equipment to make him to nightmare Luffy.
That means that Moria could be a great support, buffing allies by giving them Shadows of strong beaten enemies.
That is if the shadow can be contained and doesn't die from sunlight

"Smarts" are a variety of things. I think that Moriah is the best battle strategist, while Crocodile is the best schemer. Doflamingo's schemes may have been more successful, but he had far more resources than Crocky. Mihawk might possess the most technical facts about the world of OP among the Warlords, and Jimbei might be the most emotionally mature. Even Luffy is the "smartest", he has better instinct than most wild animals.
Mystery Personthing Moriah is the smartest overall.

The fact Jinbei could one shot Moria makes Thriller Bark essentially worthless.
Eh that's debatable. Jinbei is a former Warlord of the Sea whereas the Straw Hats were not. Yes Luffy had defeated Crocodile in Alabasta but it took him three attempts to do so, and against Moria he had the help of not only his crew but also the shadows of others for his Nightmare Luffy form as well. It's also important to note that Moria didn't/couldn't make full use of his Devil Fruit power in the fight against Jinbei. Not saying that Moria is the strongest or even the best villain in the One Piece universe but just that it's not that surprising to see Jinbei easily best Moria when you compare the power levels of the three (Luffy, Moria and Jinbei) at the time.

We don't know if he had his fruit by that poiint in the story. So it is unclear if he did use it against Kaido.
Also, the fact that he didn't use it in marineford might just come down to the fact that the writers realised its power and decided he didn't use it.
that is the issue with deduction and assumption, we have no idea if it is real or not. For now is it just theories.

So, I keep hearing that Moria's crew was killed by Kaido, but can anyone tell me where this is explicitly stated? The anime just sort of glosses it over, with a pair of vague statements at different points in the Thriller Bark arc about Moria having both lost to Kaido and having lost the crew he had before he created Thriller Bark.

My Favorite Villain
Crocodiles outlook on life came about when Whitbeard nearly slashed his face in half(and probably took his hand too). Doflamingo's outlook came first with his extremely traumatic childhood, and then the learning of truth's very few other people know about and would pay huge sum's, or kill to acquire. Moria's outlook came from getting severely wounded, and watching all of his friend's and crewmates getting slaughtered probably brutally thus causing such internal pain as to never wanting a "living" crew ever again. Boa's outlook is a common "all men are evil" point of view especially since most tenryubito are male and are indifferent to human life, and specifically brutal to slaves. Mihawk's just Mihawk and want's to do thing's that interest Mihawk. Buggy's got "god luck" syndrome. Kuma's a big old ?.
Maybe Gekko Moria is going to be cool in the future...or relegated to comic relief.

You glossed over the best part about his devil fruit. Using what he calls "Doppelman" he can fight you with his shadow. The shadow cannot be killed and can change shape in various ways. If you go after his main body, he can instantaneously change positions with his shadow, effectively making him invincible if you cannot attack both him and Doppelman at the same time. He could defeat you from a far range with you being unable to do anything. He only lost to Luffy because he was too caught up on using zombies and 1-uping Luffy when it came to absorbing shadows.
I wanted to know if Moria retains his shadow when he uses Doppelman. Like if he'd be destroyed in sunlight if he separated his shadow from himself. Though it'd have to just be speculation. It would explain why there wasn't much use of Doppelman in Marineford.
