    I'd like to replace my lawn with Ecoturf. Do I need to till the dirt first? Or can I plant it and little by little remove the vegetation around it to allow it to take over? I've seen people use a thick layer of mulch as well.

      You would need to remove all vegetation that might compete. Perennial Peanut establishes very slowly.

    Can it be used in plantations (rubber plantation) as ground cover to eliminate weeds.

    • @PanhandleAgExtension

      Perennial peanut has been used as a ground cover in citrus groves, so it could likely work for rubber trees too. But there is nothing you can plant that "eliminates weeds." Weed control is still an issue in perennial peanut. The benefit is a cover crop or ground cover that also adds nitrogen to the soil.

    Do you water them with fluoridated water? If so, does that affect the bacteria on the roots?

    Is UF Cowboy the Lowest growing Highest flowering variety ?

    • @PanhandleAgExtension
      @PanhandleAgExtension  4 роки тому +2

      They all produce a high volume of flowers after mowing. Waxy leaf is the lowest growing varieity, but UGA Cowboy is also a fairly low growing turf type variety.

      We are still evaluating the low growing varieties. Cowboy is one of the better options for turf, but the data is still being collected.

      @@PanhandleAgExtensionwhere can I buy cowboy or any of the low growing varieties? I’m located in central Florida 30 miles north of Orlando. Only found 1 nursery that had it and he had no idea what he had other than it was arachnis glabrata. Found a second place near Tampa (a little far) that had it but I think all the offered was ecoturf.

    Is it possible to grow from seeds?

    • @PanhandleAgExtension
      @PanhandleAgExtension  2 роки тому

      Only the Pintoi varieties can be planted from seed. All of the varieties in the video were planted from dug root spriggs.

    I am inquiring for the best variety for horses. Can I contact you via your website for this information?

    • @PanhandleAgExtension

      Ecoturf would be best for grazing, but there is not much difference as far as hay quality. Hay yield is better with the newer varieties due to disease resistance.

      @@PanhandleAgExtension do you know of any farmers that grow Bahia/Perennial Peanut pastures for equine grazing? How do the two species mix in? Is the Peanut too rich for grazing? Thx.

    Could this become an invasive species? In Colombia I see it only as monocultures. Could it invade our ecosystems?
