Once I saw this opening with the mustache, and never saw it again. I almost wondered if I had dreamed it.
In Brazil, he is known as Inspetor Bugiganga. I used to watch it every single morning in my hometown. It was original aired on September 12, 1983, my birthday.
1983. Didn't realize it was quite that old. Remember watching reruns in Nickelodeon. I would've been three, almost four when this pilot aired.
For this second version, Jesse White voiced Gadget, this time in a style sounding much closer to the voice of Maxwell Smart (Don Adams) of Get Smart, one of the series' inspirational sources. The producers still weren't completely satisfied with the voice, though, and eventually decided to hire Don Adams himself rather than a sound-alike (Adams began voicing the character from #2, Monster Lake). This version of the pilot episode became the one that was used to sell the rest of the show, and as the first one it has a somewhat unique intro, with several scenes taken directly from the episode rather than being all-original (such as both the Gary Owens version's intro and the regular one). This version was first publicly seen when DiC repackaged the series in the early 1990s, and it carries the title "Winter Olympics" (originally, none of the episodes had their titles displayed onscreen). It can be found on the American DVD releases "Inspector Gadget - The Gadget Files" and "Inspector Gadget - The Original Series".
I love the mustache.
I still love this show so much. Good memories here
This was the First Episode of Inspector Gadget and was the only time we see the Mustache since MGM threatening to sue DIC due to Gadget's similar appearance to that of Inspector Cleaseau
It brings back so many memory when I was 6 year old left home alone and watching this 6 in the morning before going to my elemantary school. This cartoon brings back so many memory. I am crying at this moment thinking back about the past. Thank you for bring back all the memories ;-)
So nostalgic.
omg i miss this, i used to watch it as a little kid... thumbs up if ur a 90's kid
So many memories...
It should be known that all season 1 (1983-84) episodes used the customized DiC end logo. Any of those that have the 1984 DiC "Vortex" logo will be remastered prints.
I think "revised" or "changed" would be a better description than "remastered". The episodes certainly don't look better in terms of picture quality.
theres something about gadget that i like
Hahaha. i still remember this sequence in my head. Stop, stop my good man, just one step further my good man and you'd fallen into my secret gadget trap lol.
Secret being a carpet on the snow lol.
l swear there were more episodes with the mustached gadget but l heard that it had to go because he resembled too much of inspector clouseau (pink panther) but this is a french canadian cartoon and most inspectors (tv and real life) do/did sport trench coats, from clouseau to colombo
Watched the BEST cartoons when I was little!
He was originally voiced by Gary Owens
Yeah. I was going to ask about that. So would this one be Jesse's Gadget voice or Don's? I know it's not Gary's so I'm just curious about that.
I used to love this show and sill do!!!!
I’m very surprised this episode on aired on CBS in 1991-92 on Saturday Mornings in the early 90‘s on the CBS Kid TV block from November 9, 1991 to August 29, 1992, considering they obviously could not have aired every episodes (and I still know that some episodes of Inspector Gadget aired at least 2 times on CBS). It was the same reruns that originally played in syndication. I do seem to know this one airing on CBS, but I also know I did see it every week, because I was watching the show on cable‘s Nickelodeon channel at the same time.
When Inspector Gadget (the 1st season, anyhow) went into syndicated on weekdays Mon.-Fri. as a daily strip the following year in 1992, my local Fox station (WTAT-TV 24 (Cable Channel 6) in South Carolina) aired the show Monday through Friday, and since the same episodes always aired on the same day of the week, all 65 episodes were aired. I was in Germany at that point, before I came back to the United States in early 1993 in South Carolina when I watched this show when it did air Monday thru Friday, the 65 episodes were all aired. It was in off-first-run syndicated reruns as part of Bohbot Entertainment’s syndie package for 2 years during the early-mid 1990‘s (airing until the fall of 1993 on my Fox station) until the fall of 1994. The pilot was no dream. The final 21 episodes of the 2nd season was not distributed by Bohbot at all. At the same time, it was rerunning on The Family Channel (FAM).
when i first saw this I was like 'wait a minute, I dont remember Gadget having a mustache.'
Maaaaan, I haven't seen this show in years xD
Hell yeah, bring me back to childhood
se me caen las bolas locooooooooo grossooo gracias x el video
Inspector Cleseau (Pink Panther films) + Maxwell Smart (Get Smart TV series) with cybernetic implants = Inspector Gadget.
Here, John Stephenson voices Chief Quimby instead of Maurice LaMarche.
Who voiced Brain?
Liam Alexander Frank Welker, of course.
"This message will self-destruct." Has it ever occurred to anyone that Chief Quimby is in cahoots with Dr. Claw?
Wow, I guess this was gonna be called Inspector Luigi.
This is the only episode that Inspector Gadget has a mustache.
anyone else notice inspector gadget flipping us all off from 00:20- 00:24 just NOW noticed and it is clear as day lol
Docjhon so true
I had the toy of this guy and Claw's transforming Car/Jet too. XD
Oh. He did have a mustache at one point. I thought I imagined that
It's like gadget is the bad guy
♪Do re me la si do re me la si♪ thank you ♪doooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo♪
MEMORIES
Mustached gadget looks like an evil twin.
So basically he's Inspector Clouseau lol
@Davisrullzs: No. I'm saying IG ran in the 80s (see the year date of the pilot [1983]) first & was reran into the 90s. The same with Fraggle Rock (1983-1987), The Disney Afternoon (particularly, Gummi Bears, Ducktales, Chip & Dale's Rescue Rangers, & Talespin), The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, & others.
09:10 - 12 - "bow wow woof woof woof!" XD
ThisTV put it back on M-F at 7am EST
ahh the old bomb in the message trick
@Zurround100 I think every guy that watched the show had a crush on Penny at some point. Still a great show with one hell of a catchy theme song.
SOAB, 360p in the 80's, that's like 720p today!
i love madcat !!!!
It's funny to see Inspector Gadget with a moustache. I wish that it would have showed how Inspector John Brown became Inspector Gadget. I mean origins are nice.
September of 1983. I was 59
i like this
Hey, at least he has 5 fingers, unlike most cartoons
Do we ever see any of her other family members? Maybe Gadget is the only relative she has, but I haven't seen every ep, so I'm just guessing on that.
I'm glad they got rid of the 'stache. He looks a lot older with it.
I forgot Inspector Gadget had a moustache...
@kyawmawthu I don't know why they gave him a moustache in the first place, but I do know they removed it due to his resemblance to Inspector Cluseau from the Pink Panther films.
I don't know. That looks more like a Luigi-type mustache.
Daffyfan2006 It's 1983. Almost nobody would've compared to Luigi until years later.
I love the music at: 2:35
@HollywoodStudios100 From tvtropes: "Di C Entertainment had to remove the mustache for the rest of the series after MGM threatened to sue them for Gadget looking too much like Inspector Clouseau."
I wonder why they took away Gadget's moustache? It actually makes him look kind of cool
Inspector freakin' Gadget!!
Where yo curley mustache at?!?
1 person is Dr. Claw!
9:39 The Gadget Snowgun is a lightsaber!
@superfox89 I say it's because the show couldn't be taken seriously in any way, shape, or form, if Inspector Gadget kept that funky mustache. That's probably not the reason, but that's the reason in my head. Sounds good enough to me. lol
like a sir
I like the mustache wish they would of kept it.
@superfox89 Exactly, and think about that through an entire tv show series. It'd be so weird!
Why not? Mustaches are awesome.
*BROWN BRICKS WITH MINECRAP*
@MsOneiroi77 It's the pilot episode, I guess they removed it later.
@SinclairDelux This the only episode where he has a mustache. Strange, ins't it?
That yodler is the Mad Hatters son
Moustach ? No way
@Alaadein1 Hell yeah 90s fuckin ruled!
@Zurround100 I know, in real time, shed probably be 37-39 now.
looks better without the stash
"ur so gay" Yep, definitely a 5 year old.
@CrackSom3 They scraped it cause he looked too much like Inspector Cluser...which was the main idea around gadget...!
@Alaadein1 me 2 i loved this show
who doing gadget's voice?
Don adams in this version
cool
I mean in the ORIGINAL pilot
@MsOneiroi77 it was the original idea, but it got scrapped as they thought he looked better without it. A wise move - i didn't like the idea anyway. :P
I can see why they ditch the mustach. its TO much like Cluesau
Is the Mad Yodeler crazy or what
Why did this show only last 2 seasons?
8:16 wtf?! he's just a head!
Gadget seems slightly more competent in this one.
He kinda looks a bit like 70s Neil Peart!
@alishashaan Sooo true..
3:00. Random sound effects.
Well, this show weas from the 80s, so technically 80s kids xD
DiC doe'snt like Gadget with a Mustache. that's why they removed the Mustache in later episodes.
Also, I'm a little confused here...Gadget is trying to get rid of the dynamite, but Brain keeps grabbing it to bring it back to him...why? isn't Gadget TRYING to get rid of it?
when did he get a beard and also he charcters sound differient
dont he say "go go gadgeto -whatever gadget it is"? =(
Or doesnt he say that in the english version at all?
Personally, I think Gadget with a moustache looks a lot like Dick Dastardly. Especially in one part of the opening, when he's apparently talking, he looks far too much like Dick Dastardly.
Laser Time?
out of curiosity, why does penny care about gadget so much and try to protect him? is it just cause hes her uncle?
1984 I belive
Girl shows? What do you watch, Disney Channel?
I LOVED his cartoons. I cried when Don Adams passed away. I felt like I knew him when i watched his cartoons and Get Smart. His legacy still lives on though. :)
@SinclairDelux This the only episode where he has a mustache. Strange, ins't it?
I still remember watching a few of Inspector gadget episodes, even though I was born in '97 :)
