  • From Wikipedia:
Tales of Mystery and Imagination is the debut album by the progressive rock group The Alan Parsons Project, released in 1976. The album's avant-garde soundscapes kept it from being a blockbuster, but the interesting lyrical and musical themes - retellings of horror stories and poetry by Edgar Allan Poe - attracted a small audience. The title of the album is taken from a popular title for Poe's macabre tales of the same name, Tales of Mystery & Imagination, first published in 1908 and many times since under this name. Critical reaction to the album was often mixed; for example, Rolling Stone's Billy Altman concluded that it mostly failed at reproducing Poe's tension and macabre fear, ending by claiming that "devotees of Gothic literature will have to wait for someone with more of the macabre in their blood for a truer musical reading of Poe's often terrifying works".
This album was released in the UK originally with a different name. Simply called The Alan Parsons Project, it was successful enough to achieve gold status but later that year the same album was released under the name of Tales of Mystery and Imagination.
    Lyrics:
    The clock struck midnight
    And through my sleeping
I heard a tapping at my door
I looked but nothing lay in the darkness
And so I turned inside once more
    To my amazement
    There stood a raven
Whose shadow hung above my door
    Then through the silence
    It spoke that one word
that I shall hear forever more
    Nevermore
    Thus quoth the raven, nevermore
And still the raven remains in my room
No matter how much I implore
    No words can soothe him
    No prayer remove him
And I must hear for evermore
    Quoth the raven, nevermore
    Thus quoth the raven
    Nevermore

During my military days, a fellow grunt and smoking partner (RIP) ended up at a party of older people (still don't know why we were there) but the owner and his wife a history professor, as it turned out) of the party put this album on, he rolled a couple, passed it around and we all just laid back and listened, no one spoke, now close to the end of 60, I have followed The Alan Parsons Project ever since, thank you for those memories Alan:)

The Raven was a ground breaker in it’s day being one of the first rock songs to feature the newly developed (by EMI) of a device called a vocoder, a voice changer used to distort the vocals to great effect in this track. Love Love Love The Alan Parsons Project!

Yep, we were 14 year old stoners and rockers when Alan Parsons was introduced to us. Loved all his work including the next album "I Robot" ..For some reason I also think of Pink Floyd "Wish You Were Here" around this same period in my life. Both high influential albums.

WIKIPEDIA: It was one of the first rock songs to use a Vocoder, developed by EMS, to distort vocals (see UA-cam video EMS Vocoder). It is also one of the few songs by the band featuring the vocals of Alan Parsons, who sings the first verse through a Digital EMI Vocoder (liner notes). Actor Leonard Whiting performs the lead vocals for the remainder of the song, with Eric Woolfson and a choir as backing vocals. /// For Techies (see Wiki Vocoder). Military / Industrial apps began in the late 1930s.

I miss the experience of going to the record store the day a new album from my favorite bands was released. I loved that smell of fresh vinyl that wafted from the cardboard sleeve when I carefully cut the shrink wrap. Albums often came with extra goodies, like booklets and posters. I had a Stones album that had a real working zipper on the front! Our larger record stores had free concerts sometimes to promote new bands and albums.
But I love music of all eras. There are many excellent modern day artists I love, such as Michael Kiwanuka, Calexico, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, and even some Japanese pop music my son turned me on to.
I was a teenager in the 1970s, and there was good music, but it's not my favorite era. The 80s music was so different and new (I'm still a punk fan).

    We walked the narrow path
    Beneath the smoking skies
    Sometimes barely tell the difference
    Between darkness and light
Do we have faith in what we believe?
The truest test is when we cannot see
I hear pounding feet in the streets below
And the women crying and the children know
    That there's something wrong
It's hard to believe that love will prevail
It won't rain all the time
    The sky won't fall forever
And though the night seems long
    your tears won't fall forever

    The best ❤
    The clock struck midnight
    And through my sleeping
I heard a tapping at my door
I looked but nothing lay in the darkness
And so I turned inside once more
    To my amazement
    There stood a raven
Whose shadow hung above my door
    Then through the darkness
    It spoke that one word
That I shall hear forever more
    Nevermore
    Thus quoth the raven, nevermore
And still the raven remains in my room
No matter how much I implore
    No words can soothe him
    No prayer remove him
And I must hear for evermore
    Quoth the raven, nevermore
    Thus quoth the raven
    Nevermore
