I love how in the later songs you might think Russell's voice has changed and he can't sing how he used to (because the vocals are so different) but in reality he can still sing the older stuff almost the same as the day he recorded it. What's also incredible is that even without the rest of the band, the piano/keyboard that Ron wrote is strong enough to carry the vocals and make the song sound complete. Two truly talented people. Nothing wrong with their humour either! :)
So many rock and pop stars fall totally flat when played acoustically in a pared down version. This sounds great, which shows what a solid piece of songcraft this is.
What an astouding acoustic pared down version of my favourite Sparks song. I've never seen this. Ron's accompaniment and persona is great and Russell's voice is fantastic. That incredible vocal ending matches the original IMHO. I could listen to all their songs in this acoustic format.
This is from the BBC Late Review or Late Show. They had a load of other artists doing acoustic versions of some absolutely classic songs, really hard to locate these tracks on UA-cam, if anyone can locate others then please share!
It was an offshoot of The Late Show called "Words And Music" presented by Tracey Macleod. It was on BBC around 1997. Suzanne Vega, Rickie Lee Jones, Jimmy Webb were also on it if i remember correctly. I taped the series and have it somewhere in the attic. I'll have to look for it!
@Bodebodango You knew him back in the day, n who are you? lol. N yer I agree steve perry was an amzing vocalist but still dont think russell is all your making him out to be, and you dont give freddy enough credit, I may not have seen him live myself but live videos like this one show how they can sing n after looking at some I think freddy could belt it out, just coz he didnt go as high pitch doesnt make him worse :/
These brothers are genius. But Russel doesn't quite hit the high notes here, sorry. Well, we all have our bad days. And the song itself is my absolute favourite.
I think he hits those high notes just fine. This is an *awesome* version of the song, I LOVE this! The lyrics are easy to understand. Thanks for posting!
@@jokingpants, the last, at "leave" isn't perfect. It hurts me to admit, but no, sorry. But he hit it perfectly in Stockholm, Sweden in June 2018, what I can hear in original key. 44 years later.
@Bodebodango This is an amazing performance but can you really this its as vocally demanding as most queen songs? I really dont think so, I think freddy mercury is much better tbh

his voice only got better and interesting until maybe 10 years ago
Amazing. Everybody loves Queen but I always preferred Sparks. They were weirder and better!!!💞🔥🎊😿
"I wrote this song in A, and by God it's going to be sung in A"

I've never seen ron use a grand piano its so cool!!
Such a voice... Amazing
Brilliant. I love Russell's 'sheesh' at the end 😁

God bless the makers of "Kick ass" movie that put this song to the soundtrack. I already forgot it, but now I can enjoy it once again! :D
I've never heard the piano player speak and I thought they were German. Great song from my child hood.

Yep, it was Later with Jools Holland, I had this on video and watched it relentlessly. My introduction to an amazing band, changed my life.

MAGISTRAL
F*ck me Ron and Russell. Thank you for the 1970's :-)
If Mike Patton sings this, have to be good
I swear I saw this as part of an Open University programme - am I going mad?
When did this air?
around '93
Doesn't this vocalist appear as the announcer, in Justin Hawkins' video; for his rendition of this song.
#JustinHawkinsRidesAgain
They both do.

I beg to differ, I feel Russell really does manage to hit the high notes! Give them a break - it's twenty years later!

Many thanks for uploading. I taped it back in the 90's but lost the tape not long after. Great performance!
