- An overview of the record breaking 2005 Atlantic Hurricane Season.
Video contains satellite animation of all 31 named and unnamed storms with information listed: storm name and strength rating, date of formation and dissipation, maximum wind speed, minimum central pressure, number of deaths and damage reported. (If no deaths or damage occurred then nothing will be displayed.)
Following that, a brief overview of the massive amounts of records set.
I like how the music gets all tense and dramatic near the end of the season. Really fits it.
Yeah and Passage by Ugonna Onyekwe can fit too
Ophelia in 2005: I'LL BE STRONGER NEXT TIME
Ophelia in 2017: PREPARE YOURSELF IRELAND
LOL
Ophelia 2011: BEWARE CANADA!!!
p r e p a r e y o u r a n u s
Yaah lets just ignore the strongest Ophelia, 2011
Its rare
Everyone forgets about Stan. It killed almost as many people as Katrina and wiped towns off the map
Tommy Gourman The People threw Stan under the bus.
And Emily, and Rita. Especially Emily.
Seriously why is Emily still a name
But my parents where lucky they were in the tropical storm part on there honeymoon in Mexico
And Maria kills more tha Stan and Katrina
3:49 Ophelia is like, “I WILL NOT DIE!”
O-O phelia
2:48
Katrina: Omae wa mou... shindeiru
New Orleans: NANI?!
OOF
5:10 Gets yeeted out of the Caribbean by the jet stream
2005
Texas: Hah! Harvey ur weak XD
Harvey: I will get my revenge...eventually...
2017
Harvey: Hello there
Texas: General Kenobi
How about Harvey in 2011?
lol
2005: we reached Zeta
2020 Eta and Theta: evil laughter
2005:i’m the most active hurricane season ever!
2020:Hold my storms
Harvey 2005: I’m nothing
Harvey 2017: BYE TEXAS
2005 was basically the solid definition of "terrible" regarding an Atlantic hurricane season; pretty much every atmospheric and oceanic condition allowed it to spit out so many nasty storms (and storms in general). However, it is only a matter of time before we get a season that rivals 2005 or (hopefully not) is even worse.
2020 may do it. Earliest E named storm on July 5 formed. Earliest F and G named storm is also possible. Wind shear is starting to lower with little Saharan dust.
@@michaelguerrero3684 yep. Some people think that we could get up to 30 storms
That's what I am thinking at it's max.
@@unitgamex2972 already have F named storm few days ago.
@@unitgamex2972 wouldn't be surprised about more named storms in July.
Notice
Hurricane Harvey, Jose, and Maria all came back after 12 years
Brenton Taylor Harvey, and Maria will be retired...maybe Jose because of how close it came to hit the already affected islands.
Names are reused every 6 years
Norway Tracking it's a joke m8 just go with it.
Norway Tracking they didn’t get retired til 2017
And also emily
2005 : chilling with 28 storms
2020 : let me have a try
I have a bad feeling that 2020 will surpass 2005. 80% sure it will happen.
Was looking for this sort of comment. It's late August and Tropical Storm Laura is a ragged, disorganized mess next to Puerto Rico. TD14 looks like an old cold front. Most of the storms this year barely registered as storms. One of them was literally named, and became extra-tropical by the time I went to lunch.
2005 wasn't just infamous for the quantity of storms. It was that it kept producing monsters, and storms that didn't behave "normally."
@h u r r i c a n e s Isaias and Laura so far would be retired named storm for 2020.
Michael Guerrero, nah Isaias won’t get retired.
Hewhiz Well, It costed about 4 billion dollars of damage total from its impacts in the Greater Antilles, and the Tri-state region in the United States.
Lmfao as we watch alphas track Wilma ate it 😂😂😂
XDDDDDDDDD
Alpha: forms
Wilma: sees alpha *nom nom*

5:11 Wilma: I’m here and I will destroy you.
Florida: sad anyone want a beer
2020 is now most active in history. I called it since May.
Harvey is still lingering over Texas...
We got Imelda now
Oh yeah I forgot about Harvey
We also got beta
@@Ender_Warden now Delta
(Kind of hit Texas)
We should be in another season like this in about 2-5 years from 2017
I would love that
It's 2020 and you're kind of right

Harvey (2017): Hahahahahaha Destruction Time
Vince:I formed more north than any other Atlantic storm
Alpha(2020):I’m about to end this whole mans career
I went through Irene and it was a nightmare. We had to evacuate to a shelter and it was very uncomfortable at that place. We got flooding and power outages along with damage to trees and power lines. Could it have been worse? Absolutely. Irene could have hit us as a Category 4 or 5 hurricane, causing catastrophic flooding and widespread damage. But, as is, she has caused enough problems and headaches.
You're talking about 2011 Irene
I'm pretty sure it was a cat 2-3
Not anymore. 2020 is now the new record setter.
Wilma had a pressure of 882 mb and a eye of around 2 miles wide which shows how powerful it was!! 2005 was the worst hurricane season and broke many records.
I hate how people don't remember it though. All they do is say ," Oh yEaH kAtRiNa wAs ThE wOrSt"
Also people forgot Michael, Stan, Irene, Nate, and others
@@unitgamex2972 Micheal wasnt in this season?????
@@Dabayaba7273 duh
Yeah, and the fact it survived in early January is truly amazing. The whole season was fascinating, despite Katrina and Rita.
And stan.
And Emily, Dennis, Wilma
Guys, the account owner of these videos is not dead, he simply can't access these channels, (Other one being mesocyclonic.)
2005: I'm very active
2020: cute
@Trainking922 Landfall on the Canary Islands resulted in the 19 deaths. 18 died when a boat sank, and a person died when he was blown from a ladder while attempting to fix his roof during the storm.
The $364 million in damage was also from the Canary Islands.
15 years later:
2020 is now the most active year on record
Who still watching this in 2020 although Force Thirteen gonna premiere the fifth iteration of 2005 Atlantic hurricane season animation this Saturday?
As well as the epic music playing during Gamma's epic battle against wind shear, which it may have lost due to upwelling working with the shear
And like clockwork, history prepares to repeat itself again
It’s been a really long time since I last watched anything with a tropical cyclone in it
Also there an error 13th was by 11th (NOT 1th)
Alpha 2005 :oh my goodness im so excited today is going to be so much fun
Wilma: *eats Alpha*
Alpha 2020:oh hell no im out of here *makes landfall in portugal*
Maria of 2005: Meh.. I give up...
Maria of 2017: hahahahaha
@ Trainking92
I didn't know that these storms formed until I looked at the Internet in '08 on my iPod touch.
This year (2005) is now the second most active in NS. 2020 has 30 so far.
It’s me manly gimme hug
@@theyes647 🤗 Come here!
Well you never know it might keep it record for 1 year
4:39 XD
yeah wtf lol
I Realised that. Proberly the MET OFFICE or the Guys naming the storms forgot to name the specific tropical cyclone at 4:39. but they also don't name STDs that often
That storm was missed operationally, and was only discovered in post-season analysis. Thus, it remained unnamed. Although, I'm not sure why this video refers to it as "None" instead of just "unnamed".
@@supertornadogun1690 it's because it was a subtropical storm in at the time they didn't name those. Still weird and funny though
@@unitgamex2972 They started naming Subtropical storms in 2002, the storm was missed during the main season and was discovered during the Routine NHC post analysis.
5:19 Poor Alpha was eaten by Wilma
i love the music
Wilma:iam gonna eat you
Alpha:ahhhhhh
Alpha:ugh
2020 is now tied with 2005 with 31 total depressions. Meaning, this video is technically not outdated. Woot!
Harvey made a cat 4 9 months ago
Are you going to do one of these for 2010? Hope so! I've been tracking these things for 4 years now!
brian hes dead and im assuming you are too
@@imr991 he is not dead, the original poster stated that he is alive and he still loves hurricanes, he just can't access the accounts.
@@imr991 hes not dead he cant access this acc (mesocyclonic included) he now uploads on a channel named "Doug's Hurricane Shack"
What website did you use for satellite
Look up “NRL Monterey Tropical Cyclones” and it’ll come up
What song is being played in this video. I’ve been trying to Shazam it and it isn’t working.
What is the song title
Irene was nice to us in 2005. But, six years later, she made a devastating impact to the United States.
It's interesting how each part of the music seemed to suit the storm shown at the time, like Lee pretty much separating and the music sounding like a spectacular magic trick took place lol
You probably wont respond to this, but I agree.
Great video!
Greek alphabet wow almost like 4-27-11 tornado outbreak damn
@MW2fan452 I plan to make one eventually for all the years back to 1998.
Atlantic Hurricanes there is a spelling mistake at 7:40. It should say "Of those 26 weeks in 2005, only two HAD (not hand) no tropical activity."
also at 8:01 there is an error. it should say 11th not 1th
+WNY SEVERE WEATHER yeah
though weaker, ike was much bigger than rita, which is why it had a more devastating impact, just as subtropical storms allison and lee had big impact compared to smaller tropical storms and even hurricanes
Of course,Irene hit New York as a category 1 hurricane at night and tropical storm in the morning.
I'm watching this as Tropical Eta is forming which will tie the 2020 season with the 2005 season
The storms to affect Georgia in 2005 were Cindy, Dennis, Ophelia, and Tammy
And then 2020 came along.
Irene 2005: I will be back!!!
Irene 2011: Hello New York! Time to die
0:55 this reminds me when the Hurricane Emily destroyed lots of cities. Including Campeche (19th July 2005). I survived THAT hurricane!.
What will happen if return?.
Kumon de Graaf then it will be retired for good
Alpha: Forms
Wilma: haha I eat u nom
@Dac719 although 1954 wasnt as active
I was in the middle of hurricane Rita when I lived in Houston, but I slept through the whole storm.
Johnathan Hill I hope you are fine after Hurricane Harvey.
A alguien le recomendó esto UA-cam en 2020?
Did someone recommend this to UA-cam in 2020?
Another one of these comments
Yo lo busqué we
well it is kind of hard to find that fact since it was a long time ago
Never underestimate the strength of Depressions and Storms
Definitely!
They ran of names well before the season was supposed to end on November 30th! (Then they went onto the Greek alphabet)
I no longer have access to this account (or another one I also posted videos to, Mesocyclonic). Now that my kids have grown older and I have pandemic free time, I've been uploading videos as "Doug's Hurricane Shack"
Wait what music is this?
From what I've seen, did Harvey do a comeback?
Edit: Also Jose and other storms that have been named two years?
Thats because the list cycles yearly (6 years). After 2005 the same list was used in 2011 and then 6 years later it was used again in 2017, so you wont see another arlene until 2023
Also before 2005 the list was used in 1999, 1993, 1988 and so on
THIS SEASON AINT MOST ACTIVE 2020 IS
Here after 2020?
@Dac719 a hurricane in 1954 went into 1955
As of writing this, we are currently tied with 2005. Zeta formed early this morning.
We need Eta to form to officially tie 2005. Remember the unnamed subtropical storm in 2005.
Probably it will surpass 2005. Most named storms in November wouldn't surprise me at all. It needs 4 or more to happen and there is a good chance that it will happen.
Theres an invest on the carribean it had 80% chance to form
Eta formed, hit Honduras, its a tropical rn. Theta is developing.
And that's a point for prenaming a system. That disturbance currently has a 10/20% chance of developing. I wouldn't call it Theta, yet.
Dennis was a bad start :(
And 175 MPH
@MW2fan452 Haha, so have I. Ever since the end of 2005, I've been tracking them.
Baby Vince 4:54
I don't think all the information is accurate but anyway it's indeed a very good video!
And now in 2020 9/18/20 already on Bata.
Me seeing the thumbnail: *wait that’s not what happened-*
3:50 a hurricane’s circulation doesn’t go that fast.
Well it did!
And just because it looks like it is going fast doesn’t mean it is
how did Vince formed over land WHATTTTTTTTTTTTTTT !
Most hurricanes in a season.
4:54 that Hurricane was so small
@cookie1749 Oh. I didn't know that.
Why do I feel like the recent seasons that contain these names (even though some are retired) are always the most _violent?_
The name list in this vid apparently is cursed
List 3 used to be pathetic. It didn’t have a retired name in the first 3 seasons List 3 was used, but then 1999 (Floyd, Lenny), 2005 (Dennis, Katrina, Rita, Stan, Wilma), 2011 (Irene), and 2017 (Harvey, Irma, Maria, Nate) happened.
2023 had none, first time on list 3 since 1993
San Diego had a hurricane that cost I think one billion dollars (1934)
Maribel Sanchez Great Hurricane San Diego.
Something like that.
The most active until this year.
July twenty firth?

2005: Worst beach season to swim in since these hurricanes kept coming and coming near most of the east coast and gulf coast
2004: Worst year for Florida
2018: Lots of long lived storms
2020: Worst year for beach season too
2008: Worst year for the Gulf coast
@cookie1749 well it is still a record
0:02 at the bottom that might change this year
@MW2fan452 in 2011 maybe for him
Just wait till 2020.
