For starting a new island\game, I also used 'Cooked Quandong' as its great because it provides both Health and Stamina and importantly during the early game this only takes a single inventory slot. (You have to upgrade your inventory so will often find this get filled with everything else you want to collect). Later game, when Cooking Table is available then this opens far more options and buffs. Thanks guys.
Fruitsalad is my goto food. I spend a good part of day one hunting fruit, planting some of them and then making fruitsalad. I guess cooked quandongs mathematically are better, but I like the full staminabar.
