The best part of getting older is seeing your childhood memories unfiltered. I tried to watch the OG lion King recently and it just couldn't hold my interest. Why would I bother with something more controversial because it's new?
The swings Disney has made during the years has gone from one extreme to another. Back in the 90's the Swedish version of the Disney Club rejected the band Erasure, that was supposed to perform on the show, when they realized the singer was gay!
They won’t abandon “THE MESSAGE”. It’s Disney’s shareholders like Vanguard and Blackrock that invest in DEI initiatives. The shareholders is where the money is at for Disney, not box office performance. As long as Disney crosses off DEI checkboxes in their movies and shows, the money will keep flowing. For Disney investors it’s all about the Disney+ subscriptions and the Disney park’s revenue. It’s clear that Disney doesn’t care about making good movies anymore
Disney is doing the Bridge thing: being less overt but still going to push the "progressive" message. Case and point: the team in the show's co-ed. What are the chances that they're going to properly show the differences in physicality between the boys and the girls? And how many times are we going to see the girls out play the boys in terms of that physicality? Or have the boys be dumb while the girls are shown to be the smart ones?
The message targets everyone. This is not and has never been about producing content for an LGBT audience. It's about forcing LGBT content on the wider population.
Lucas : “The force is female” Men : “The force use to be of all identities, i am canceling this noninclusive bigotry” Woman : ”What’s the force? ……. Ah, i don’t like sci-fi”

DarkHour is totally right - that community would never be ok with a separate brand specifically for their content because they want it shoehorned into everything. Disney used to exemplify what was so great about capitalism. Now it exemplifies what is so crap about capitalism. Disney needs to be broken up into its various entities... which will probably all be managed by BlackRock and Vanguard anyway.

@@niriopthey are an investment management firm, which means they control funds for the vast majority of corporations in the US. They are essentially a 4th, unelected branch of the US govt that regulates the economy and promotes corporatist centralization.
I think there needs to be a shift at the corporate level, regarding the attitude toward actors. More and more actors are coming in with the attitude of "I am all that matters" and "this is MY movie and MY character and I can do with it as I want" and "I will use MY movie as a platform to push my beliefs". They need to be told, in no uncertain terms, "your job is to play OUR character in OUR movie, THAT is what we are paying you exorbitant amounts of money to do, and you are not to do anything that will threaten our profits of the film". I think that needs to be started at the contract level: add a clause that they can be released from the contract if they do anything to harm the image of the film, ie get overly political, say anything controversial, be Rachel Zegler, insult fans, anything like that. They're allowed to get away with far more than any regular employee can, and that honestly needs to change.
Chris, they will never do this because THEY KNOW the fully gay content would be disastrous financially. Also it's not that they want gay content, they want to SNEAK IT IN!
I actually made a comment on one of Drinker videos about 2 years ago, saying that we would eventually see Disney change course, but it would be done incrementally and only start in about 2-3 years (so right about now). The reason being, they aren't idiots in the C-suite, they can see they were losing money, but they also had the simultaneous problem of having invested TOO much into this crap and there were too many projects underway, with too much sunk costs. Production pipelines for movies and shows is counted in years. If they had stopped and immediately reversed course, and admitting yeah we fucked up, and we are going to have A LOT of losses in the next few years it would have been received way more negatively in the stock market than what was already happening. Trying to spin things PR wise, and recoup some money was essentinally there best course of action, while they finished out projects already announced and in the pipe, and slowly shift focus on new projects .
I've been trying to make sense of all this, and I have only one explanation: - Big investment firm habitually makes loans to Disney - Suddenly they require Disney to meet DEI targets before getting more loans - Disney hires "diverse" writers and produces "diverse" scripts, which cause multiple commercial failures - Disney's share price drops dramatically - Big investment firm snaps up the cheap shares - Disney eventually halts the DEI policy and slowly works its way back to profitability, and the share price is restored, therefore the investment firm makes a HUGE profit. Could I be right about this? I realise it sounds like a conspiracy theory. I realise it's a very long-term plan.... but then, the difference between rich and poor people is that rich people make long-term plans.
Blackrock's CEO is on record as saying he wants to change the way people think. It's insane but this isn't about money. It is intentionally and specifically about reprogramming the way people think
"Disney Sparkle" will never happen because it would completely defeat the purpose. The goal was never to create content for a particular audience. The goal was to force everyone to BE that audience.
Don't know why they ever thought this route would be a smart one to take, they've lost over a billion dollars because of it. They should've quit it not a week after Lightyear's debut.
@ Yeah, it started out as woke, now it’s just annoying and in a way subconsciously invokes woke ideology (lack of detail, ugly, childish, tumblr, anime, minorities)
Unlike most of the comments here, i actually think the corner has turned. I don't Disney ceo's or board members ever fully believed in "the message"; it was simply driven because they thought it was profitable. Now there has been a resounding rejection, the jumped up rainbow waiving minions will be replaced by those who actually have artist creative talents and we are slowly returning to normal.
They better, unless they want to downsize huge to meet the tiny percentage of woek audiences that actually support them with real money, not thoughts and prayers.
About the whole concept of acting = pretending Ideally yes but I've noticed since maybe the 70s a lot of trendy jibber jabber of actors - mostly UK ones - bragging how they like picking roles that are "literally me". I mean for a good pop culture example, Patrick Stewart plays himself in every role. Picard was supposed to be a Frenchman in TNG but he spoke an English accent, he drank Earl Grey instead of wine, and so on. That's literally just him. The only difference is he's not a bald-headed actor, but a bald-headed peacock in red pyjamas strutting around a spaceship having temper tantrums until someone in his crew solves the Problem of the Week.
After seeing the outline of what they were going to put in, I think it would make a great independent short. It was well-written. There is value to stories like that... they just don't need to be crow-barred into mass-market media, especially for kids. Think of how much worse The Jungle Book (1967) would have been if they had squeezed in a message about Vietnam? But that doesn't mean stories about 'Nam are invalid - you just don't cram it into The Jungle Book. If you want to make a movie about that topic, you make a movie ABOUT that topic. Political stories are fine, self-inserting political activism is bad writing.

We feel more like Alex. We enjoyed our time until some suit said we couldn't anymore and made it untenable. Then pushed us out into the world which then proceeded to beat us down for our past enjoyments. Remove the examples used and see the experience for what it is. The ending Alex is us, finally removing the shackles imposed by woke society.

DEI is now part of corporate business registration and strategy all over the world. DEI is also now part of auditing where if you don't have enough DEI points your company audit fails. There are DEI initiatives in countries like Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Indonesia, and Bangladesh for god sake.

Iger claimed this in the past and was epically mocked when the same reporter published exactly the same quote (because he used the same lie twice) exactly one year apart, right before the fall quarterly report to investors. He did not live up to that claim either time, and I strongly doubt he will do it this time either.
I've given up on new American movies, T.V shows and games, with a few exceptions. Thankfully we have old movie and series to go back to. Also, Asia is really picking up the slack.
I only worry they will look at trends in sales which would appear to grow as parts of the message were being introduced while not realizing the increased sales are only due to product recognition and new customers not realizing they were being led away from the familiar at that point.
The problem with Chris’s suggestion is that these activists don’t want to be in charge of a spin off division of Disney. They want to be in charge of the main divisions.
Yep. Their target audience is not the rainbow-flag wavers. Their mission is to preach to the unwashed normies.
Communists never change. They won’t give up self destructive ideas.
You think Disney is controlled by communists?
So Disney is controlled by communists?
neither do religious zealots... and the house of the Rat falls into both categories.. Cheers!

10:50 probably one of the best points you've ever made Drinker. Sean Schemmel knows for a fact he's not actually Goku, hes just happy to be the voice of him. Being an actor is a job literally millions if not billions dream of, and the entitlement from this current round we have, is quite simply staggering.
Sean Schemmel, aside from being one of the usual corrupt left-leaning stooges, has enough problems with his own ego due to voicing Goku that he's not a great person to make this point with.
@ alright then, Bryce Papenbrook with Meliodas and Kirito. Or (even from db) Chris Sabat with Vegeta and Piccolo
Honestly, I lost faith in Disney after the
Mediocre Lion King 2019 and after how mediocre Frozen 2 was. They’re not as good as they used to be.
That's what did it, huh?
Yeah, but they were kinda not Doing well before that with their remakes in 2017!-2018 other bad stuff like Wreck It Ralph 2.
Frozen the story about how you do not need a man to build a castle of ice on top of a mountain with the coldness of your heart.
The best part of getting older is seeing your childhood memories unfiltered. I tried to watch the OG lion King recently and it just couldn't hold my interest. Why would I bother with something more controversial because it's new?
These type of people can't stop. They can only BE stopped by others exiling them from avenues and opportunities.
Don't care if they do a complete 180 from here on. Not until ALL executives are replaced will I ever give them another dime. My anti-FOMO is stronk.
The swings Disney has made during the years has gone from one extreme to another. Back in the 90's the Swedish version of the Disney Club rejected the band Erasure, that was supposed to perform on the show, when they realized the singer was gay!
You have to fire everybody in the corporation.
Remember Kids! If you don't buy it, it goes away!
I read that in Christopher Walken's voice
They won’t abandon “THE MESSAGE”. It’s Disney’s shareholders like Vanguard and Blackrock that invest in DEI initiatives. The shareholders is where the money is at for Disney, not box office performance. As long as Disney crosses off DEI checkboxes in their movies and shows, the money will keep flowing. For Disney investors it’s all about the Disney+ subscriptions and the Disney park’s revenue. It’s clear that Disney doesn’t care about making good movies anymore
They'll rename it, they'll be more subversive with it, but they'll never abandon it.
They can’t & they won’t, blackrock controls and funds them.
Don't worry, that's the kind of messaging we've had for decades that, while still incredibly poisonous, a lot of people can't see and totally ignore.
The message, targets a very small audience. You would think a multi billion dollar industry would know that.
The message targets everyone. This is not and has never been about producing content for an LGBT audience. It's about forcing LGBT content on the wider population.
Lucas : “The force is female”
Men : “The force use to be of all identities, i am canceling this noninclusive bigotry”
Woman : ”What’s the force? ……. Ah, i don’t like sci-fi”
While men are the predominant fans of Star Wars, there are many women (including myself) who also love Star Wars (the way it used to be). And Star Wars is one of the most famous franchises ever, even women who don't care about it have likely heard of the Force.
It's time for a live action Song of the South!
There's already been a live-action Song of the South. Song of the South WAS live-action except for a couple of animated interludes.
@@FumbleAIBO Of course it was, but there's nothing like a (modern) Disney live action redo to put a franchise in the grave. Why, it could be their very own Springtime For Hitler!
Considering the parks aren't doing good Disney has to make some choices. Disney parks in America, Shanghai and I believe Hong Kong are really in a bad way. The Chinese theme parks won't get better for at least a decade due to economics and politics.
I’d love to know how many Disney ‘creators’ have children? No concept of ‘actual’ family life. It’s not until women raise boys that they start thinking “yeah they ARE different from girls 😂

DarkHour is totally right - that community would never be ok with a separate brand specifically for their content because they want it shoehorned into everything. They’ll shriek that they’re being further marginalized and this is exactly why they need greater representation across all media.
Disney isn’t abandoning the message. They’re just going back to the drawing board to try again.
Disney used to exemplify what was so great about capitalism. Now it exemplifies what is so crap about capitalism. Disney needs to be broken up into its various entities... which will probably all be managed by BlackRock and Vanguard anyway.
Why is BlackRock bad?
@niriop do you know anything about Blackrock and the fact that they are the reason housing prices have skyrocketed? Imagine bootlegging billion dollar evil coporations

Odd how they went with a co-ed baseball team. I wonder if they'll acknowledge that the boys are stronger than the girls?
You mean the girls stronger than the boys right? Because that's what " modern audiences" are expecting
Chris doesn't seem to understand that the entire point of adding this stuff into the films is to drive agendas to impressionable kids.

Inside Out 2 was salvaged by the partnership of Peter Doctor and Less Gay.
The message was present in 80s and 90s movies too but you didn't notice.

I've been trying to make sense of all this, and I have only one explanation:
- Big investment firm habitually makes loans to Disney
- Suddenly they require Disney to meet DEI targets before getting more loans
- Disney hires "diverse" writers and produces "diverse" scripts, which cause multiple commercial failures
- Disney's share price drops dramatically
- Big investment firm snaps up the cheap shares
- Disney eventually halts the DEI policy and slowly works its way back to profitability, and the share price is restored, therefore the investment firm makes a HUGE profit.
They'll just scrub it from the marketing.
What will really end woke is when money rolls in after rejecting it.
Don't know why they ever thought this route would be a smart one to take, they've lost over a billion dollars because of it. They should've quit it not a week after Lightyear's debut.
Because black rock forces them
I thought they'd bring in the transmission kid as a ringer to help win the championship. Back in my days, we'd call that a comedy

They won’t have to cut a separate Middle Eastern or Chinese version now.

Nope, people are so easily led.
They better, unless they want to downsize huge to meet the tiny percentage of woek audiences that actually support them with real money, not thoughts and prayers.
About the whole concept of acting = pretending
Ideally yes but I've noticed since maybe the 70s a lot of trendy jibber jabber of actors - mostly UK ones - bragging how they like picking roles that are "literally me".
Pure damage control.
what's the difference between disney and the cia?
The spelling.
The concept of Disney: Sparkle made me lose it.
I doubt it, but we’ll see.
