Beyoncé considers this her love letter to Africa. She has recreated her version of the Lion King, and she shed light on Africa and culture while doing so. Such a beautiful and extraordinary project.

The "Otherside" video represents a mother losing her child. She places her child in the water and then picks the baby up again, saying "I see you again on the other side," meaning she will see her baby when she dies. It’s touching because Beyoncé has had miscarriages and lost her children.

No! In this song she talks about the story of Moses, from Egypt. He was left in a basket in the Nile River by his mother and was found by Pharaoh's daughter. Christianity was also born in Africa, so she portrayed the story. The "otherside" is this.

I believe Beyoncés mission is to highlight the beauty within the African/Black diaspora. Due to the history of colonialism certain aspects of the African/black culture was either lost or overshadowed. Not many will witness or acknowledge the beauty that the African culture holds. I L O V E that you’re acknowledging that you’re not all informed, No one is perfect and it’s okay to not be entirely informed or wrong. Never be afraid to ask questions! Watching the News is stressing-watch documentaries or movies relating to African or black culture.

This is a retelling of the Lion King if they were people not animals. So you hear the voices of Black people across the African continent speaking and singing in their native languages. That's why you didn't understand them sometimes. Beyonce and her team worked on incredibly hard on this. And when you think about the time line she was working on Homecoming, the gift album, BIK, i Cowboy Carter, Renaissance, Act 3, the visual movie for that, and her hair care line Cecred all at the same time! The songs from this album that deserve a listen are The Otherside and Bigger. Bigger has a separate video but Otherside does not. Beyonce cowrote all the songs she was on. Great reaction.

She did a documentary of the making of the this album called "Making The Gift" where she speaks on how this album came about and her journey of learning more about different African cultures and her family's roots. You should react to it. It also shows behind the scenes footage of her and her collaborators recording the music in the studio so we get to hear her raw vocals.

Great reaction! I saw your reaction to the Lemonade album as well. While I can tell you don’t know a lot about Black History I feel like you do a good job catching a lot of the underlying meaning and themes. Some things you wouldn’t know unless you did a deep dive into Black History which we all know is lacking in our schools. Some themes Black people don’t catch for the same reason. I don’t believe that makes you racist, but that’s what open dialogue is for.

I love your content I just wish you did more research on things before recording so you’d be more informed.
This was made as Beyonces interpretation / soundtrack to the live action Lion King that came out a few years ago. She voiced Nala on that project. So the music is reflective of Lion King Theme but also Beyonce.

    • @insertDk
      @insertDk 5 місяців тому +4

There is no need for her to do a bunch of research before putting out content. Most people (including you probably) do not research the background behind a work before consuming it. Consuming it is what encourages them to find out more.

I watch a lot of reactioners so I agree taking a look at what a project is about before reacting to it can be helpful, especially an album or film. While some reactions prefer for their reaction to be completely raw and uninfluenced, I can understand why you feel the way that you do. On the other side of things, I think that her dive down the rabbit hole of Beyonce's work has a lot to do with the fact that she IS so unfamiliar with not only her discography/filmography, but Black culture as a whole. We are watching her learn along the way. And while we know who some or all of these artists are, because we either grew up with them or they're a part of our culture, she doesn't share that same experience. I actually had no idea that she has Native American heritage until this video and I've been watching her channel for almost a year. I'm willing to bet she's going to review the comments and go back to rewatch this movie and then we'll have a bunch of new content from her because she'll want to listen to the other artists on this project.

Whomever said you were any level of racists definitely never saw your content before. They must have been absolutely up in their feelings and not LISTENING to what you say.
People sometimes hear what they want to hear but don't bother to hear it in context. And maybe you don't know the details and get some guesses wrong, that's the whole point of making the channel of exploration for..to build a community of people to connect with, learn with, and have a good time.
But anyways...I loved this project. I thought it was beautiful and very underrated. She did it for the culture and I feel like the culture let it down.
I think maybe to be less over stimulated by both the visual and the soundtrack, that maybe you could have just listened to the soundtrack first. Get a feel for the style and the weight of the words.
Or better yet, the making of the gift (soundtrack). That is beautifully done too.
It gives you a total feel for the idea behind the project. She's so good at documentaries. This one and Homecoming are my top 2 faves.
The movie Black is King is basically a retelling of the Lion King but with an all black cast and cultured African elements in it. I think it was very helpful that Disney let her add snippets of dialogue from the live action movie to present the storytelling that followed next.
I think the costuming and styling is Award worthy and stunning.
Beyonce has different roles in it. When she's all in white or all gold, she is the African Goddess Oshun who is a protector of children and helps with fertility.
SIDE NOTE: The captured enslaved Africans were stripped of their different languages and religious beliefs...which included deities. Forced to speak english and follow only christianity as their religion...and a lot of slave owners altered what was said to make the enslaved believe they had to do what their owners said or else they'd go to hell.
    SIDE NOTE END
But I digress. In the song ALREADY, she sits on top of a horse with a horn like headpiece, you can find ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphics like that, but historians and text books wouldn't call them demonic, yet if they see it on a black person demonstrating the entities of their culture then it's demonic.
When Bey is in the Teal outfit she was the Goddess Yemaye (Goddess of Water).
I loved the creative way they made the ground look like it was a still stream of water she was walking on.
In the song, OTHERSIDE, she is doing a scene from the bible of baby moses being put in a basket and set down stream.
I personally believe it is a song for the child Bey miscarried some years back, to say that she will someday see that child again.
When Bey came to the quiet rivers of heaven, with all the little children in face paint and white clothes...she appeared all in white as the Goddess Oshun receiving the child in heaven.
(The scene when the baby basket flips under water and a grown Simba surfaces scene)
Simba was a child, who became a man who did his job, and was blessed by a Rafeeke character and sent to heaven where he found his father (Mufassa) and was welcomed proudly by him.
James Earl Jones plays the voice of Mufassa in both the animated and live action versions.
He is also the voice of Darth Vadder. I wish that he could be the person to do my eulogy when it's my time. I LOVE HIS VOICE💜💜
I tell people who talk bad about his voice to put some respect on DARTH MUFASSA!!!😅
The second guy singing with Bey in the song WATER is Pharrell Williams.
She used barely any American black artists, choosing to shine more light on other Afrobeats genre singers, who were well known in their parts of the African diaspora.
In BROWN SKIN GIRL, she added in the beauty of a darked skinned debutante from India (South Asian), for representation of some of the women there who get less appreciation because of their darker complexion.
I know its asking for a lot, but could you please react to The Making of The Gift?
The song she was singing during the rolling credits was her song called Black Parade.
MY POWER is the scene where Simba comes home to fight Scar and the rest of the pride gather to do combat and have his back.
The song is such an anthem about never letting other people steal your self worth, dignity and inner strength as a woman...as a black woman.
It seems to be the social media trendy these days to bash us, meanwhile we seem to get expected to do the most for every and anybody else, and should expect no respect in return.
Sadly, a lot of that toxic mentality is coming from our male counterparts.
When Beyonce added the snippet of Malcolm X's speech about Black women being the most disrepected and unprotected, in her Lemonade album....how hauntingly more true that is today...
I loved that at the end of the movie, you see her hugging and dancing with her son, and it read "I dedicate this movie to my son, Sir". *Paraphrasing.
All she was trying to do was give us a powerful visual of seeing us enriched and rich in our lives and culture. As she said, basically that if you can see it, you can imagine it for yourself and make it a reality.
American society has so much influence from black culture, but so many of us don't know that, because the American history books only go as much as "We were slaves". That's also one of the reasons for her Cowboy Carter albums. She researched and used examples of facts to put her album together.
I say this to any and everyone...Know who you are, before someone else tells you.
They may not tell it all or even truthfully, if they even know.
Knowledge is power...NEVER LET OTHERS TAKE YOURS.

It shouldn’t be the job of black people toceducate yt people on these things yes music can be enjoyed by everyone however there is still a gap in the understanding and respect when it comes to black artist do to yt people not caring to educate themselves.

Hi! Love your videos and I hope you to continue to spread joy with them. However, I think as a grownup person, you do yourself and your platform a disservice by choosing ignorance over information. You don’t need to know everything, but confidentiality admitting that you don’t know Black history besides slavery was disheartening to hear. With this video and many others, you’re profiting off of Black history and ignoring it at the same time. Hope this comment sparks a bit of introspection and encourages you to learn more about us. 🖤
