"A walrus."
"Now what did I tell you about making up animals?"
RvB throwback. I love you
Ah the Goristro... one of the few beings I personally like when I desire to show my sadistic and horrible side as a DM when the players actually demand I give them a lethal challenge. So far... none survive and yet the players were excited to fight one again.
Impeccable upload timing! Demons that look like Nosferatu Zod while binge watching Berserk
I like how Vox Machina used Yenk. "We have a Goristro problem!"
"We have a White Dragon Problem!"
"Put them together and we have... two monsters trying to kill us at half health?"
Goristro could be effectively used for a terrifying Attack-On-Titan-like campaign set in the D&D multiverse.
Cast enlarge on Grazzt’s x10 sized Goristro.
*small village of demons come tumbling down, pain spike come sliding out*
The party come across a terrasque rampaging in the country side. The wizard (who made wisdom her dump stat) summons a Goristro...
That's not going to end well

Ha ha ha,my Warlock/Philosopher rode one of these through a fortress in the abyss trampling a ton of demons after id fortified it with fell magics! Good times! Great video man thanks lolx2
How cute and cuddly, Mom, I know what I want for Christmas...
The gentle piano music at the end of your video made me spit my coffee out hahahahaha. Your one of the few people i know who knows what a houda is! 😉
This is just in time for my Delving the Abyss campaign I've been making for my friends \'W'/
Every campaign needs an encounter with a horrific massive monster to instill terror in the party with its raw power
My favorite large demon. Wizkids put out an excellent prepainted mini a while back, just in time for my “occultist” wizard to learn to cast shapechange.
You said the abyss is like the wwe on crack and now all i can think of is any time a demon challenges another theres a whole wrestling match where they talk like hulk hogan.
Except it sounds WAY better in the original Abyssal.

These guys need some way to see through walls, so they can smash through walls to ambush.
I think the "silver adamantine" is from artists who confuse it with "adamantium", which is Marvel Comic's most well-known unobtainium.
I concur
Not to be confused with Adamant an old name for diamond.
@@marvalice3455 That's kind of why the word is used in fiction for very, very hard substances.
Is it just me or does Goristro sound more like something you'd get at Starbucks than a Tanar'ri bent on destruction?
He's a baristro
I can't see any demon lord needing more than two heavily armed and armored Goristro as bodyguards. With that much power all but the most vile Devil or divine Celestial would wilt under blows with 25 Strength. These are the behemoths that are the vanguard of any demon army with lesser demons waves swarming around their feet.
Greenscyth22 they are actually physically weaker than Solar angels, and can’t cast any magic. Besides, why have two titanic raging war machines when you can have thousands?
@@TheWonkster my reasoning, they will just eat each Other if no foe is presented
Orc Merchant that’s true for most demons, they have no respect for the hierarchy like devils.
Ya I like defeating demon lords it's easy, use that spell telekinesis to open up a hole in the ground and they fall in screaming, then close it up or stand over them and cast trap the soul, send it into a lich phylactery and they're dead forever in a day. Then reward the lich for helping you conquer the worst enemies in the dnd multiverse.
Fact: when you trap a demon lords soul inside of a phylactery it doesn't go back to his amulet. This makes the amulet of the demon lord worthless
Goristro: Tired of the lame AD&D Minotaurs not living up to actual Minotaur mythologies? Introducing the Goristro! They are as close to the mythological Minotaur as AD&D will get! Act now and your purchase will include all Minotaur and Goristro lore in one easy set of study encyclopedias. You will also find out about related monsters like the Yak Folk, Rhinotaurs, Gif, and other hulking humanoid beings in that theme. In logic terms when dealing with goristro: RUN THE HELL AWAY AND PRAY YOU ARENT IN ITS CROSS HAIRS AND IF YOUR DM MESS THE PLAYERS UP WITH ABYSSAL FURY😂😂😂
Always love demon, devil, or undead vids.
If these things had more intelligence they would probably be comparable to balor.
The Net Libram of Random Magical Effects man so good..thanks. so good...Lol
Add some cybernetics to a goristro, more intelligence, and a rocket launcher, and you've got a cyberdemon from Doom. ;)
That is uncanny!
Noticed it wasn't mentioned anywhere yet, but in the PC game Planescape: Torment the fiend Fhjull Forked-Tongue lives in the Outlands under a giant skeleton of a creature called Ul-Goris, who's said to be the father of the Goristro. Oddly there doesn't seem to be any mention of Ul-Goris anywhere else, and Baphomet or mazes aren't mentioned in relation to Goristro in any of the 2e material, so I'd assume that's a later edition change.
"This is the skeleton of Ul-Goris, the father of the goristro. They're living, bearlike siege-towers, juggernauts of chaos, huge, practically unstoppable, highly resistant to magic... and Ul-Goris' bones, in the crater where he fell to his death, radiate much enchantment that prevents magic to spy me, keeping this pitiful frame alive for a few more desperate years. Feh!"
This is interesting, hmm what world is it set, forgotten realms, Spelljammer, may help to find it. Different Crystal Spheres in the Infinite Sphere of DnD Multiverse is strange as is at least it is separate from most of the Omniverse.
@@Plokman040 Planescape: Torment is set in the AD&D setting Planescape, which is mostly set in the Outer Planes (2e Great Wheel Cosmology). The corpse of Ul-Goris is in the Outlands which is the neutral middle ground between the different Outer Planes. I don't know enough about Spelljammer rules to know if you can get to the other planes of existence through Spelljamming because they exist outside the Prime Material where Spelljamming and prime worlds exist.
@@AdamRickert I looked but found nothing. Best we ask AJ.
I’m playing the game right now and the line you quoted is what brought me to this video
Wow, this was one of those monsters that I just kind of gloss over in the manuals. “Oh look, there’s another horned vaguely humanoid demon/devil”. And, of course, you have completely changed my mind. Now I want my next campaign to involve a section in an ruined city that was destroyed by a summoned Goristro gone wrong. “Okay players, your level five, and if you make a loud noise, the Goristro notices. So fighter, how attached are you to your full plate?”
"Don't bother with the armor, it won't help much anyway"
I suspect they will find an alternative you didn't consider. One that will make you wonder why you got so pumped up for this xD
I commented on another post but here seems more relevant. If you want to use it as a impending doom type monster I would recommend skipping the fighting part of it. Use it in a forced chase. Encourage the players to run for their lives if they make a noise and as they have to make dex/str saving throws or skill checks to get around obstacles or avoid pit falls the monster just blast through it. Every time they fail they get closer to their doom. I like 5 passes or fails. You can kind of feed them checks they have skills in on the fly or have a random list of obstacles they can roll on.
Wow. I never thought you would bring back the transitioning images over music with no talking at the beginning of your videos from the past. Nice throwback.
These would be a terror on the Prime Material plane. They would destroy almost anything.
We need a bigger snicker bar.
Just walk forward slowly with a hand full of hay, it will be fine... well, it will be painless... well... it may be quick.
AJ Pickett you know it won’t be, it’s going to bite their arms off, eat their legs, break their ribs, and then sling the poor individual as close is it can get to the Styx like some sort of massive horned chad.
Man I love these videos so much! Some of the best stuff for me to listen to as I’m drifting off to bed
Siege demon.... but demons aren't really known for building stuff. Maybe Demogorgon made a sand castle once and it made Baphomet very angry.
Demons can cast spells over level 9, such as Create Volcano. Demons have a lot of elemental power, they can create fortifications out of jutting, chaotic spires of basalt with semi-organic parts causing the walls to ooze. Faces and clawing hands appear to be trying to force their way out of the rock. Demon lords sit on thrones made of piled-up corpses and bones, there a bubbling pools of slime, gore and magma randomly scattered around in crevices, craters and fissures. A demonic castle looks like a natural formation crafted by a crazed earth elemental.
the fortress of Pale Night begs to differ, Demons do build strongholds. Devils build & rebuild a lot, & siege monsters are quite useful against those structures.
The “siege beast” tag really doesn’t have much to do with knowing about fortifications or masonry, or even if the creature has encountered them before. It’s about if the creature is strong enough to shatter stone and warp metal when it hits it. A Goristro doesn’t know what type of stone was used to build it or what culture built a thing, but it knows that if it lowers its head and rams it, that wall or building is gunna have a Goristro sized hole in it.
@@Im-Not-a-Dog I loved this answer!
Not a Dog. Agreed. Structures get damage thresholds so if you don’t do X amount of damage, no damage is done. Siege tags means that creature isn’t going to just bounce off. Not that it’s only used in sieges. I see siege tags as a great indicator of a great “chase monster”. Players have to run for their lives and jump over or duck under obstacles that the chase monster just blast through. Every time they fail a roll, the monster gets closer. It’s a fun way to implement older save or die type rolls but with more rolls and longer suspension.
I love the allusion of the Abyss to WWE on crack. Who's demon Hulk Hogan?
Demogorgon!
@@AJPickett Of course! Though I'd have mistaken him for McMahon.
Great... I’m picturing an entirely more aggressive version of Ganon from Zelda Ocarina of Time with control over its weapons like Thor... Now here’s an interesting question, if someone or a group manages to kill this thing does it drop its weapons when it disappears? @@michaelkelligan7931 glad to hear you're doing well.
I always enjoy a solid bit of creature lore. Especially demons. They're just fun
The NLRME is _so_ fun. A mildy-homebrewed wizard (basically, he leaked random magic effects whenever his d20 roll matched my hidden one) at my table both vomited unpeeled bananas for a full round and rendered a random teammate immune to all terrestrial poisons but deathly allergic to meat in the same fight! This was days after he'd had his legs switch positions in a previous fight, as well!
The pc's needed more magical power for the last leg of thier journey. So the wizards they wanted help from where too busy themselves but they walked them through how to get theough the wards to thier vault where they have secluded many magic items from the world.
One of the trials included a portioned off segment off baphomets layer of the abyss, and the players needed the assisstance of a goristro to reach the adamantine doors of the vault.
So my wizard loaded up on charm monster spells. As they made thier way through the maze, they felt shakes in the ground and heard thunderous blows. Then i had them roll initiative, they all hid.
The goristro charged a rutterkin and rammed it into the wall, the one directly in front of the players. I rolled a natural 20, the rutterkin took 166dmg, the wall took 332dmg. Shattering the whole corner into rubble. Short battle ensued, and part of it was my warforged eldritch knight. He cast shield while concentrating on haste, raising his ac to 29!
I described as it slammed one fist into the magical barrier smashing
Him int a crater 1ft deep into abyssal stone, . The second came down and struck true w/ natural 18 and the players saw for the first time the impervious shield bends under the force smashing into the head of the fighter and he lost concentration.
Then they had to cast several charm monsters, as it was an 8hr travel to the destination while they held on for dear life. The whole thing left my players super tense.
It was awesome ^_^ and honestly some of the best fun i have had running any monster. Highly recomend it!
That was masterfully DMed!
sometime's i think that demon's think to much like the demon lord's but then i hear about this and think hulk smash.
i always found the immediate brutality of the Goristroi to be very effective. When you are a living siege weapon, there's no need for cleverness
What would happen if someone put a circlet of intelligence on a goristro??
Now there's a nasty prospect.
I'm gonna try to use this

I'm starting to think Baphomet is your favorite demon lord. Hahah.
Well, he is the horned lord of the greatest dungeon in the multiverse, but... I just have a slightly OCD need for completeness and I did mention the Goristro a lot.. the truth is though, this was simply the next demon on my to-do list, which is organized by the chronological appearance of the demons in the literary history of the game.. so, pure coincidence really.

Your videos are my happy place, sooo good
Some games still use electrum coins yay old editions
In my world i use it as like foreign currency
Well now. We definitely need to see these things against the tarrasque. It'd be hilarious.
Not particularly. One Goristro is a CR 17, while the Terrasque is 30. You'd need at least 2 V. 1 for them to stand a chance.
What you need is a living demon base entity, the whole fortress is alive, immobile, but able to defend itself against siege attacks.
Considering how The Abyss works, I wouldn't be surprised if something like that already exists.
Isnt that called a dungeon?
They have a sentient core and use monsters to defend themselves, luring adventures using loot to feed those monsters

Green by natural light, purple by artificial? So alexandrite metal.
Dungeons and Dragons borrows stuff from folklore, myth, stories and occasionally, actual historic fact.
@@AJPickett i am a big fan of alexandrite.

Aj, you want to challenge your players not annihilate the players by giving a goristro adamantine weapons
You have not met my players! 😆
I'm sure I haven't. My players like thier characters to survive the encounter, not become smashed hamburger on the bottom of a goristros foot lol. Creative though, if you get in the party it's a good way to kill them. I just make them fight the tarasque. Best ok ever was a balor against a first level party
@@kevinchristiansen4348 After gaming with my group for a number of years, the Goristro would end up becoming their trained mount, or they would simply fly over it and cut it down with radiant damage.
I'd like to game with your group or one like it
Ya the worst way I ever killed my team is they went to fireball Kevin and asked for 5 million gold pieces with a wish spell. He cast wish and 5 million gp fell on his head and slew him. Then another guy tried it, and he did again except this guy got pinned by the gold, then fireball Kevin summoned mammon and made a deal with mammon and used charm spell make the poor player sell his soul to mammon In exchange for fireball Kevin's soul
Something that’s always confused me about demons and devils, both of their main damage types are fire and poison. They are at war with each other and both are usually immune to fire and poison, so do they just have special types that bypass resistances or do things like horned devils just chuck fire at demons with fire immunity
I know that in the nine hell's the devil's are working on pumping their fire with soul power which bypasses any fire immunity called hellfire. There is a video on this channel that aj did that covers some of this topic. I believe it's the Mephistopheles video but don't quote me.
@@brettonalwood4173 so do both demons and devils use souls in their fire
@@alexruiz4468 I'd flavour it as Devils using the soul-powered Hellfire while demons with the capacity to do so use more of an Abyssal fire (kinda like the Fire vs. Chaos damage in FromSoftware's Souls series), each of which make regular fire laughable by comparison... I have no idea if there's anything in the official lore, though.
@@alexruiz4468 As far as I'm aware no. It's a technique still in development in the nine hell's only though I'm sure some spellcaster are working on it. I believe that it literally Burns away at ones soul eating up their vitae. So it's a dangerous practice especially for mortals. I do know that the nine hell's actually have a red dragon that breathes hellfire such is it's mastery, but whether they have yet to replicate this success in similar ways is up to the DM. I do now that both sides have utilized certain poisons that can bypass immunity to poison. I like to think of it as their immunity to poison is due to the environment they are created in and thus while they have been exposed to a variety of lethal poisons (making most poisons by mortal standards weak in comparison like how we can consume alcohol even though it is technically a poison) they have not adapted to everything. Plus in a world of magic and cure poison spells being of such low tier why wouldn't some assassin's or alchemist guild sprinkle in some magic to make their spells and poisons bypass such immunity or be so strong that the poison won't be completely removed even with such restoration spells. I actually flavored it once in my campaign when one of my dedicated poison build characters kept pelting a demon with poison tip bolts that the demon became drunk even though it should have died.
Please do a video on half orcs
Yaaaass
We all know they're all born from random bards, what's there to tell! Lol
What if it had a adamantine horn cap? Damage dealt to structures would both be doubled and an automatic critical hit and with a charge that does 14d10+7 damage for a crit average of 161 what could a Goristro with such a horn cap just be able to just run through? We’ll have you seen the art of the tarasque breaking off a tower as easily as we lift a can soda? Well the goristro’s charge does thrice the damage to structures as a tarasques claw. Siege monster as a trait doesn’t do justice to the ability to destroy towers ships and walls that siege monsters have. Double damage? You mean to tell me a tarasque can’t pick up a sailing ship by both its claws and snap it in half to pour the sailors down its mouth? It would be reasonable to rule every object it steps on in its path is damaged and destroyed as if hit with a stomp and every wall as if hit with a gore, it can topple a demon sized hole in stone wood and concrete. It wades through splinters of ship walls wooden houses and siege towers as we would wade through water and needs a bit of a charge up to go through stone or concrete but it doesn’t even require the action it plans to use to murder the people on the other side unless it’s running through more than 5 feet of solid stone.
To players the battlefield is a complex maze with varying heights walls of cover, to the Goristro it’s a plane angled at best, with some obscurement that is destroyed as they pass through it to get to the players.
good video AJ

Unholy greatsword in hells goristros
is it a remake? I though you already had a Goristro vid, as it's listed in the MM.
Nope, the demon list is HUGE
The funniest death I ever seen in dnd is a party of average 8th level characters goes walking into an inn to get thier rest and recover thier hp and spells, they walk though the front door and all of a sudden they're in baator in minauros, and they're devils all around them holding shackles and spears, holding out a contract that tells them they are now the property of baator and ordered to sign it or else they'll be killed and born again as a lemure, but if they sign it they can be legion devils instead
Whaaa? How did that happen? 😆
It's called planar gate to hell placed in the local tavern entrance followed up by an invisibility spell on the holgate. I got the idea from one of the demon souls games
What had happened is they were messing with an old character I played called fireball Kevin who was a level 20 wizard.
They blamed him for starting the battle of hellgate keep and then tried to get him imprisoned and killed by the town guard, so fireball Kevin sent them to hell for it
@@AJPickett the way you send people to hell as a wizard is to open up a gate to hell with that summon devil spell, then you cast reflect magic on it to invert the direction and make it go to hell instead of bring devils from it, then cast invisibility on it to hide it. Ya when I was younger I loved sending enemies of the party to hell.. until my gm took stopped giving me xp for it. Just charm the enemies, open a portal to hell then send em through. Bye bye, not 1 hp of damage

Faerzress
It's an ambient magical radiation that pervades the underdark, said to be left over from its creation (I think?) it messes with spells, and can cause wild magic, or effects similar to that. I think it does other stuff too, but mostly just sitting around glowing all pretty and mutating magic. (Pff, just realized he went over it in the video)
Ya I want to create a multi class wizard priest, he has all the mage and priest spells, and then goes to the lower planes and become the lord and saviour of hell. He goes to the prime material plane and makes deals with mortal men, and promises he will resurrect them from the dead and become their personal lord and savior. STORY TIME: One of my recent D&D groups went up against one of these as the final boss for the first arc of a campaign. We had a Paladin, a Rogue, a Monk, an Artificer, and me, the Ranger (Also a werebear). This thing kicked our shit up and down a sandy beach for about two hours solid, with the asshole that summoned it playing merry hell on our attempts at tactical combat by using magic to temporarily take control of our Paladin. The rogue and I managed to hold our own against it there towards the end, but then she went down and I was on my last legs. I had been avoiding using the werebear form because it comes with some significant risks (namely there's a chance I might go wild and kill my friends), but we were out of cards to play at this point, so I fucking went for it.
Spat out a mouthful of blood (fuckin' anime tier wounds here, I was *dead* on my feet), looked the demon in the eye, dug deep and found the untapped fury of a grizzly who woke up early from his hibernation *hangry*. Transform, end up standing eye to eye with the Goristro. Can't spout any witty one liners, since I'm a bear now, so I do what any apex predator does to announce the fact that shit is about to get *wrecked*: I growl. Not roar, not snarl, just a low, long, jowl-rippling growl. I dunno how much damage we had done to the thing by this point, I don't really care. We didn't start the fight, but I sure as shit finished it. That fucker got shredded! We managed to stop the warlock king, killed him. I took the Goristro's head back to our employer as proof the job got done, and kept a nice thick patch of its hair for my scalp cloak.
