- I absolutely love Jon Burtt's 7.3 Turbo Diesel build, because it is so personal to him. I strive to be this organized, as we all should!

Bruh!! That dreadlock mullet! Really ties the rig together.
Thanks all for the great comments. I'm OCD as fuck and I don't think there's ever a moment I'm not thinking about how to better the rig for my needs. A few asked about gearing and suspension. Im running 4.88 gears from nitro with an auburn limited slip. Suspension is a 2.25" old man emu mix up with custom alcan leaf springs. Low and tucked on 40s. Only way to do it.
What wheels?
What was the website you got the patch’s on the ceiling from? Super cool design👌🏼
this guy is ORGANIZED ...wish i was half as prepared...
Haha I hear ya billy!
Sweet ride
So what you're getting at is this John fella is of the Down 2 Mob persuasion and lifestyle.
Also, "Closing is NOT management" might be the truest thing I've ever seen on any travel oriented channel.
i was gonna say the same thing. It's a fricken national park and in the middle of no where. How can you close them? We pay for them.
That's the unit you should have. Sweet!
Totally agree, this is the way
As an Old Guy, starting to look at overland truck,,,Thanks Again
Best setup I’ve seen. Going to model my build after this
After 3 different rigs he definitely knew how to set up this dream machine. It's Dakar legit. 🤘Good Vibes 👣
This is the best Overland rig I've seen so far after 4 years of following Overland and Van life realistic cost, love it good job 👍
i have allways seen the f250 as a monster but dam this is a game changer for sure !
Hands down, one of the best set ups I've ever seen. I love the organization this guy has. What an amazing rig, super jealous. I know your not looking into getting a different rig at this time, but if you ever do, this is the rig you should duplicate. Now he's down to mob.👍👍👍
First mullet dread locks I have seen.. nice!!
Lol
Let the tours begin! Thanks Phil!
The Adventure Tool Company gear is some of the best in the world. I’ve been using it for years and it’s bomb proof. Also, their warranty is supposed to excellent but I haven’t had to use it yet.
2:13 That light blue rig in the back!! That rig is an absolute beastttt! I think its like a 1960 F500 dump truck built out to a camper. I met that couple in Bend Oregon!!! They were getting gas and when I saw that monstrosity I was so excited I jumped out of my truck, ran over to them and hopped inside. ha! you gotta do an episode on them! Such a nice couple and the inside of that rig is like a absolute palace.
Wow that is one of the best outfitted rigs i have seen
Awesome to finally get a close up walkthrough of this thing. So rad. Thanks guys.
Awesome truck, I like how everything has a place and is so organized!
Very clean set up
That's the best flatbed/traditional slide in camper combo I've seen.
I have been impatiently waiting for this!! Just started a 7.3 camper rig this year and have taken so much inspiration from this gentleman 🤙🤙🤙
Any chance you are looking for a camper shell for that 7.3. I’m trying to sell mine as I just bought a Four Wheel Camper. It’s a Snug Top Outback. Short bed with roof rack, awnings, lights etc. turn key.
Dam that rig is well done…. Dude has everything on there
I'm not a Ford guy but Gramp Camp is the cats meow.
7.3 super duties are the best platform for this imo. They last forever
I saw this rig this summer in Oregon parking lot. Wonder if he got caught in the hail storm too. $2k in damages to my rig! Still, a fantastic trip & glad I went for ~6 months
Nope no hail. Hail no
We just called this camping years back .
This guy has thought of everything!! Well done...
Looking at both you guys the truck is the only thing getting the exercise.
Best set up I've seen ever so stoked to make something similar 🙌 love Jonburrt!!
Wow loving this one. Gives me so many ideas for when I'm finally ready to deck and build my dream superduty. My 05 f250 is a 8ft box 4 door with the 6.0L powerstroke.
One of my ideas is to build my deck to double as a extendable in width to 100 inch sled deck for winter.
Holy smokes! Nicely done and so frickin organized!
I have a '97 Heavy Duty with flatbed. Been thinking about something similar for years. This is way beyond any ideas I had! I shoukd get started.
Thanks.
Wow what a awesome set up everything is so organized 👌👌
I think I’ve watch this 48 times
WOW HE HAS A WELL THOUGHT OUT RIG,VERY NICE SET UP, HOPEFULLY IN 2021 I'LL BE DRIVING A GLADIATOR TOO
Love it. I have an 02 Super Duty. Seems like a strong platform to build from. Already got the ambulance package
Loved this video, maybe a little partial to this rig though. Can't understand the negative stuff though, what's up guys? These guys are living the life they choose, and are killing it, would think that anyone on here could appreciate this. Peace.
Super nice setup! I think it just convinced me to convert my truck to a flat bed. Love all the storage boxes. Too bad he had a bad experience with the fab guy but unfortunately, not uncommon when doing custom stuff. I'll build boxes myself because of that as well as the cost savings.
Seems like a cool dude as well. I noticed he ignored your occasional childish outbursts :). I imagine after being on the road with you for a while it gets tiring. You're probably a fun guy but might want to tone it down a couple notches in your videos.
Other than that, your content most of the time is very good and you have great photo/video/editing skills. I just think the whole "overlanding" audience is probably a bit older crowd is all (I, myself am an old fart).
I'm looking forward to seeing the other rigs too. Unlike some commenters here, I don't have a problem with these truck review videos. Maybe because I'm building one and love to get great ideas from others but I also think it is cool to see how others do things that might differ from my personal needs. Even doing them in two parts is no big deal.
I stumbled across the tour video by the original owner of "Big Blue", the F650 before the current owner bought it. It is an amazing rig! Way cooler than an EarthRoamer at a fraction of the cost.
Are you still planning to go with a custom box on your Glad at some point or sticking with the RRT?
What an amazing truck, look forward to the interior
Love a good 7.3. Not the most powerful or quietest diesel but it’s damn reliable and easy on fuel
Love this rig. I wouldn't know where to start to plan and build something like this but it would be fun figuring it out.
Love Jon Burt! His Grampcamp truck is badass! Love how organized he is! A man after my own heart! Can not wait too see the inside! Phil your out doing yourself on this Mobbing trip! Phil upgrade to something like this! I worry about you and Coda girl getting stuck if your ladder blows away and no one is there to help you out! ❤🎄Much love and Happy Holidays🐾🐾❤ I just have 1 question "Are YOU down to MOB!!"
So many ideas for my f250! I’m really digging the flat bed
Great rig. Thanks for sharing.
By far my favorite rig, I hope my 7.3 comes out half as good as this.
I have f350 4x4 crew cab 7.3 with an old sun lite pop up. I was thinking about a service bed with all those side boxes would work
I have a Snug Top Outback for sale for a short bed. Comes with roof rack, awnings, lights, light bar etc. turn key f your interested ?
@@butternut741 ya, hopefully one i get my ADV paid off i can start on mine. We also have a 6.0 and definitely want to do the axle swap.
Such a sick build.
best equipped storage and storage cabinets for flat bed on the internet i've seen and i watched alot of vides
Amazing!! Definitely going to build something similar in the future. Thanks for the video, keep it up!🤘🤘
The weight of this bad boy has to be astronomical! I love this rig!
I got a ton of inspiration here for my build! This build is sick!
That rig is dialed, really like his set up 👍
Man! That truck is Epic!
My camper is heavy and stock. Comfortable but its not great off road. Im thinking about getting something lighter and lower profile. That popup might be just the thing.
I bought a 1994 Sun Lite pop up for my f350 dry weight is around 1200 #. Its just under 8ft long so I can close my tail gate as well. Love it
Sweet prime mover under that pop top camper!
sweet rig, love the boxes.
Definitely the coolest rig yet..
That’s awesome dude, I really like the boxes on it, sounds like he had a bad time with whoever built them though lol, I’m trying to figure out the box situation for my new flatbed right now
Hey Timmy! 🙂
@@jfhistand7245 wasssssssaaaahhhhhhp
Um me too. Valuable intel.
Damn. The front light set up alone cost more than my rig. Attention to detail is great.
Have a safe blessed weekend! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Amazing project!
Greetings from Brazil!
I’ve seen that Blue Beast down at Spanish Bank’s in Vancouver BC this year or last not sure but I thought it looked supper cool and well done can’t wait till you put video up.
Buddy dialed in no fuvking around there nice job thanks for vid
Love the gramp camp ⛺️
Badass setup!!
Nice rig great setup thanks Phil
Of course thank you for the comment and watching! Glad you liked it
Best setup and great overview
Nice looking rig, Jon.
Wicked rig!
Nice build..I got a 99 250 7.3 with 250000 mi..hope to travel and camp in a couple years when I retire from the oil patch
Wow, so prepared! Just the weight of the cargo in the outside compartments alone would exceed the entire payload of the Jeep, lol!
Great video would love a more detailed look at how he set up his tablet, phone, diesel management unit, etc.
RUdwn2Mob - Nice big rig , lovin the massive storage , HAPPY HOLIDAYS ~PEACE~
How are you liking Utah weather right now? I went off the road driving from Escalante to Panguitch today (12/12/20). Roads were clear and dry in Escalante, and 50 miles down the road snow was 2 inches deep. I lost it and ended up down a 35 foot embankment. No damage and I managed to drive out.
The only thing I dislike about the 7.3 (and I own one) is that it’s just so freaking loud! It sounds cool at first. But after a few hundred miles I’m like “get me the fck out of this thing”
FAFO door mat👍🏼
I need to do this to my 01' 7.3 flatbed.
Will see your next mob.
That a pretty cool truck 👍🏻💪🏻
Superb video. What companies would Jon recommend for building an aluminum flatbed and side boxes?
Love that ford its awesome he has some talent
I really enjoyed the walk around of Jons rig. Cant wait for the second part. P.S. Does Jon Burtts have a UA-cam channel ?
Love your site! Totally cool, and provides insight to all kinds of overland setup/applications. Could you make contact with John Burtt for a complete listing of the mods that he has made to his F250? There is so much that is stated in the video, but remains difficult to track down. For example, and perhaps the most important question of all -- the shop that made his aluminum flat bed? The aluminum boxes both topside and underneath the flatbed. The cool gear stored all over the truck. A bit of hassle for John, but I'm sure that a list would be a big help to the viewing audience. Thanks for the video - it opened my eyes to what is possible with a base F250.
Awesome rig
Thats about perfect for my needs. I might prefeer a 4 door super cab and id prob run smaller tires. Ware I go roof/truck height matter a bit more. Lower is better to a point a couple inchs higher than factory on my f150 is a bout right. I also want some of those tool bags
Cool rig, could use another couple inches of suspension lift IMO😅 I definitely like the 7.3l Powerstroke they're a solid platform. I wish one of my supercrew cab F250's had a turbo diesel. I plan to flatbed my '94 Aeronose for a flatbed camper for an overland rig. I do love my '85 F250 4x4 4 speed 6.9l diesel but it's a standard cab, like my two other Bullnose F250's. I wish my Supercrews had the opening rear doors. I like the build, I'll definitely take some pointers on my future build.
Sweet set up! I am having my flatbed and boxes built by the same place. I had heard of some issues as he mentioned but mostly in customer service and not so much the build. Have talked to a couple who are extremely happy with the build quality but did have some issues with customer service and communication. Is that kinda what Jon experienced? I took the gamble and very excited and hopeful for a great set up once complete!
BEER!!!!!..up front..SWEET!!!...Organization..Flatbed Really Expands 'Storage'!!...but are you 'Set up' for COLD AC ( Generator..).??...'Gramp -CAMP'...that could be ME...in next few years!!?? Over-landing..Keeps yah YOUNG!!...Down to moab...Cheers from Canada!
Badass camper dude badass
Amazing
I would really enjoy a review of an off-road trailer from "Colorado Trailers". Through the perspective of someone who has been living in one for a while. That would make a great video. A cold weather review would be especially interesting.
Lv it all. Good job..
Bad ass.
Wish I could afford something like this.
This guy has the best one lol
Wonderful
The whole rear setup is nice and those boxes are slick
Do you know where i can get boxes like that
John rig is so dialed in so set up.👍you two going to go to king of the hammers this year ?
Ya it is! I’m not sure if Jon will be there but I definitely will be! I’ll be sharing coordinates of my camp site on Instagram so stay tuned and let’s meet up!
Love to know more about the coil conversion assuming it was to a 2005 - 2007 type. Did he go with with 450 or 550 coil setup with the wide track Dana front and matching rear or just go with 250 or 350 normal 60? Doing this conversion on a 2001 450 this month. Bought an 07 550 donor truck.
so wish you would have opened the hood and showed us the engine. great rig!!!
Nice!
Wondering if you could get some more information on his front axel swap?
