I love to see you expanding into cleats! I have a suggestion though: can you come up with a test to see how grippy a cleat is? Something like how long the ball sticks on or how many rotations the ball goes through with the same strike somehow? I trust your brain 😅
The with analysing Messi's football boots and what they say about him as a player is that his own personal pairs are very much custom and not the ones you can buy in stores. His own boots have a burrito tongue, and the upper of his shoes is made of different, more leather(-like) material. Not only that, the studs pattern is different too, I think he uses a pattern called "Gambatrax" on pretty much all of his personal shoes. From what I can tell, his insoles are also slightly thicker than usual, and of course the shape and sizing of the shoe is also customized for his feet, his personal boots are actually quite a bit wider than the retail ones, especially in the forefoot. The heel counter and heel cushioning is apparently also quite different. The heel counter itself is said to be much stiffer and stronger, and the cushioning inside much thicker than on the retail models. A few people on UA-cam have done it with some of his previous models, but if you could get your hands on some of his actual (match worn) shoes, you'll notice some interesting changes. That, or you could spin up one of your frankenshoe projects to try to recreate them, of course.
Please review the Nike Phantom GX, probably the hottest football cleat in the market right now and I'm looking to buy it and I would like a review like this one for them.
Hey Zach, the version that messi wears is actually very different to the retail version, you can search up to see the differences- most notable though is his personal editions use a “burrito” style tongue where the upper isn’t entirely one piece. As a football boot nerd, seeing you review boots has made me so happy, I love this channel so much, keep it up!
Best example was in the mid 2000s when instead of wearing the top of the line adidas f50s, he wore the cheaper f30s. Please review boots from diadora and lotto. It would be interesting to see what tech from their running and tennis shoes transfer to their soccer line.
The part you talk about Messi’s feet. I think you are having some kind of misunderstanding. This is not Messi’s signature boots. Just Adidas boots with Messi’s signature colorway. His own boots obviously are made specifically to his foot shape. But the fit on what us consumers are buying has nothing to do with his feet.
Glad you made a football boots review. Hopefully you make a review on the Asics Gel-Nimbus 25/Gel-Cumulus 25 or the Gel-Kayano 30. Really curious about the PureGEL in those 😅
Actually he wears a completely different shoes, it’s a more padded upper (I believe leather) and a burrito-style tongue and a different soleplate! Completely different shoe!!
Ironically the Nike Zooms are really forgiving with the mesh uppers - I coached my kids soccer team for 8 weeks in them an never had a smidge of pain or cramping - was shocked
@@FootDoctorZachI also think you’d find the material science behind the phantom gx(high cut or low cut) very interesting. The Nike gripknit is a really cool flyknit material.
You have wide feet yet never did a video (that I can find) about PEAK hoop shoes. Is there a reason for this or a coincidence? A lot of their models are wide, cheap (minus the new Wiggins model), and durable.
YES FOOTY BOOTS. Just a heads up Messi’s boots are always heavilllllyyyyyyyyy modified and never truly plays in the retail model. His boots are also usually leather and not synthetic
Great review Dr Zach 💪🏿🧠 Cannot wait for the review one the most popular in China by far many other shoes the Li-Ning (Edge Sharp 3) V2 heard those are 🔥💯
Hi Zach! What are your thoughts on using thick socks to fill the space inside the tennis shoes? I saw a youtube vid suggesting this to mainly prevent blisters or black toenails, and to provide better lockdown. Would you recommend that? Or using regular running socks which may be thin acceptable as long as the heel area is secured using the different heel lock lacing techniques. Thank you
And that Nike is the Mercurial Superfly 😅 The Vapor is the low cut one. Yeah the difference is just the knit collar which basically is a sock. It’s weird but it is what it is 🫠

Glad youre expanding your reviews to other sports like football!
Glad you like them!
That’s not football. That’s handball.🤫
Love your football review. Could you please review more football boots from other brands, such as Puma and Nike?
On it
Been watching your channel as a second opinion, glad to see you reviewing football boots now. Keep it up!!

Natural progression for this channel. Excited to see what tests you come up with for cleats!

Maybe one day ill do a custom boot- ive got my hands full with the basketball and tennis shoe parts laying around everywhere as it is

There's no secret in the boot the goat 🐐 is just built different
I Love this chanel
Love your reviews., just wanna ask which is lighter and more springy? The WOW 10 or Jordan 36?
I can’t find your review of the Nike Mercurials?
Not up yet- will be on the performance podiatry UA-cam channel so make sure you’re subbed to that
I suggest investing in a better soccer ball. Any Select brand ball in the $50-$70 range should be durable enough for the kicking drills you are doing.

Hi Zach, can u review shoes from And 1 and crossover culture?
YES! the content I´ve always wanted, a true teardown

Do these Have Carbon Fibre?
Found these at Burlington for $30
This was great, getting back into indoor and pickup footie myself. Do you know of any boots that are a little more forgiving for a wider foot?
Ironically the Nike Zooms are really forgiving with the mesh uppers - I coached my kids soccer team for 8 weeks in them an never had a smidge of pain or cramping - was shocked
Unfortunate the older speed portal color ways actually had a carbon fiber shank in them, that black plastic used to be entirely carbon fiber.
May have been too stiff for most

It’s personal preference- I love thicker socks or wearing double but it’s not for everyone
