This playing, leaning into the tone like your head is inside the sound box and looking into all the vibrations in each nook and cranny, is why I love the DB. What a player.
A very beautiful sound made by the top player and amazing historical instrument. Warm, tight, robust, bright...and sophisticated wooden sound. John, thank you from Japan
When I was a young lad my Mom used to always say about a great musician, "Wow, they really can make that instrument talk." That always stuck with me. To make your music speak to an audience. After all, it is a language. John is the epitome of an exceptional musician. He most certainly spiritually communicates to us with his music and his bass playing. Especially, as displayed here. What an incredible voice. Beautiful note choices and feel. He truly can make his instrument talk. Great music.
I'm taking a picture of this video and will use it to turn my shed space into something the looks exactly like this space. The wood panel walls are reflecting and kicking the bottom of the bass back up to his ears. The effect is intimate.... like wearing headphones. Thanks Uncle John.
I've never played upright, but I see much of the physicality that is described with the instrument. It seems like a dance with the instrument as much as a song.
So true. I’ve been playing six months upright after years of bass and the pain is excruciating. I know it’s just bad technique but still not easy to fix.
Does John put his soul into this piece or what? For a left handed man, he surely has strong and coordinated right fingers. Beautiful work John Patitucci. I can't even recall what I was thinking about before I heard this. Had to play it twice. Thank you for sharing your work so freely.
@@douglasdiggins8296 Not implied. He has a strong right hand for a born lefty. It is physically challenging for some left handed players to pick well. Especially so when first learning the instrument. I'm strongly left handed and play right handed basses. It was hard work building my left had up. I play well but it did not come easily.
@@charlesmcgehee3227 there is no evidence supporting what you are saying. Left handed players may have same adaptation required in their early months of learning, but the difference ia negligible.
I attended a clinic you gave in Miam Dade College back around 1992. You've been a great influence on my playing since. You are the bassist encyclopedias should have a picture of when describing what it means to be one. Your technique is flawless on both electric and acoustic but your tone and your melodic phrasing is what I still strive to achieve. You are a great influence. Thank you!
So much soul and feeling and mastery of style! My mind went to the bluesy original music from New Orleans. Thank you my friend for this inspirational and great tune! Lovely!
It's funny, the very first "rig" my parents bought me when I started playing bass in 1974 was a used Gibson EB-3 bass and a used Ampeg B-15 amp from our local music store. Of course, when I went off to college in 1981, stupid me thought "I want all new fancy gear", so I sold both and bought an Ibanez bass and a Music man amp. Now 41 years later I would KILL to get that first rig back! 🤣
Thank you for sharing this video! So nice to see you playing at your home studio! 🙂 Hope to see many more videos in the future! I wish you all the best!
What a beautiful, soul stirring, groove bomb of a powerful tune. Wow! I love you Mr. Patitucci and love your music that has inspired me for decades since my teenage years. Thank you!
Picked up on your sound back in '86. I'd come home from performing with the symphony and take my mind off of that music, and listen to yours. You were with Chick a long time, buddy. You paid your dues. I pray all is well these days. The glissandos are cool tool of artistry, man. My favorite moments were the contra G's with that cool sawtooth. What a sound! That one lingers in my ear for awhile.
Amazing - the intonation is man! Lol I’ll get to this level soon. John, Brian and Christian are my motivation to master the upright as an electric bass player.
I am so grateful for you. I have always loved seeing you live, watching your instructional videos and taking in all of your great music. It takes a true New Yorker to write a great tune like this about Gridlock. Thank you for everything.
This playing, leaning into the tone like your head is inside the sound box and looking into all the vibrations in each nook and cranny, is why I love the DB. What a player.
The soul of the blues on the double bass, magnificent sound.
that tone is incredible. magical touch .
I love that room.
I could live in that room. Imagine his collection of basses and the history that live amongst.
“Practicing bass lines alone in my room is boring” yeah sure… thanks for this inspiring one.
A very beautiful sound made by the top player and amazing historical instrument. Warm, tight, robust, bright...and sophisticated wooden sound. John, thank you from Japan
I love you John , you are an inspiration yesterday, today and forever.... god bless you and your family
Oh John! That’s just like chocolate mate… love the glissando doubles and the excellently weighted pauses…
Is this place your home room studio? I envy you~~ ,, what ,a great performance !! john. thank you x100 % from japan,

Excellent Mr
I watch that vid from japan with John, Chick, and Vinnie about once a week. These guys are on a level I can't even consider, really.
I am left speechless. That bass literally sings the blues. The tone, the dynamics. Who needs a guitar 😝
Great John, un abbraccio from Italy
Mr.Patitucci, you have been my bass hero since I was a highschool boy. Always thank you for your videos and playing.
♥️from Japan.
beautiful John. Always in awe of your playing, even when you were a mudshark. Always loved you and your family, regards, John X.
That had me hooked from the get go

Very observant comment. And obviously true, watching and hearing John here.
So true. I’ve been playing six months upright after years of bass and the pain is excruciating. I know it’s just bad technique but still not easy to fix.
Man, the feels on this one. Your work has inspired me for decades, John. Thank you. ❤
For me it started with "Mistura Fina" ('95), so much great music throughout the years ...
You can hear every decade of the blues in that. Love it!
Tone, Timing and Taste executed beautifully. Inspiring to listen to. Thanks!
Thank you for sharing. Your blues playing is always on point.
Strong in John Patitucci the intergalactic blues is. -Y.
Wowzer! That TONE!😘😘
Such a correct bass lines and solos maker... I've learned so much from you, sir... Great salute from Spain...
Keep creating, please...

Handedness does not translate to skill or coordination with an instrument.

@@nunyabidnez7857 Thank you. I thought I payed a nice compliment to a great bassist. In fact I'm sure I did.
I'm looking forward to an ensemble version of this. But it is indeed a great solo piece.
and then you listen to N.I.B. just after the end of this video and enjoy the eargasm 👹👌
Great song and performance! Love the Ampeg Portaflex sitting in the corner listening..
Wonderful! And what a nice room.

Damn this bass sounds good.
Nice space, very nice bass, and of course a soulful performance.....thanks

I am going to be transcribing this one for sure.
Freaking awesome dude!
Beautiful! What a sound, what a musician, what a composer...
Fantastic as always, John. I love seeing that vintage B-15 in the corner too.

So-so fine feeling
Love it John! The blues is strong in so many ways and you’re bringing it such a great voice here.
Wow what a sound!
Great tune, John. Thanks for sharing and for your contribution to bass players and jazz overall. May God bless you!

Such great playing. I studied with your guitarist, Steve Cardenas for a while years ago. Can’t wait to see you live again
What tone and the top wood is gorgeous.
Un velouté musical 💤✨👌

Sounds amazing!! I stopped everything I was doing to listen to this!
I really❤ur playing and total command of ur instrument!! Inspiring
I saw him playing a gig one time and his picking fingers were bandaged. Yet he just kept playing and playing.
Amazing - the intonation is man! Lol I’ll get to this level soon. John, Brian and Christian are my motivation to master the upright as an electric bass player.
What a sound and dynamics!!!
That sounds awesome!

The absolute master!! 🤩🫡❤️💯
BRAVO!!!
Incredible. Absolutely incredible. 🙌
😀🤩Maravilha John
To me, this sounds a lot like deep, deep southern swamp blues. Reminds me of Justin Johnsons Bottleneck playin. Very soulful. Thank you!
