there's something about playing only on the low strings that adds a lot of emotion to chords
Lower tunings are getting more and more recognition even in those genres. Baritone guitars are gaining popularity.
And leaves room for a leading voice
*I concur; they are quite a nice addition to forming a body of sound that seems to intertwine so well within songs and like you said- adds a lot of emotion to chords*
I’ve never really thought about that but it makes sense! Maybe because playing on low strings has a warmer tone.
@@mickael3274 squire bass VI, a couple pedals with that tremolo and it sounds pretty gaze’y
Love this video. Short, sweet, concise, to the point. No "put this finger on this string at this fret, this finger on the string on this fret, etc". And no detailing of your "musical journey".
What's crazy to me is how much shoegaze I hear in grunge. Loved grunge growing up, just discovered shoegaze and it's the most amazing thing I have ever heard.
“Grungegaze”
🔥👌
When I discovered "soft grunge" like Citizen's album Youth, I noticed this. Kind of like a mix of 90's emo and grunge with a touch of shoegaze.
I accidentally discovered shoegaze chords myself and I can’t stop playing with them 🗿
You should skip this shoegaze stage and go right to Jazz
It’s funny how no matter what genre I’m playing, as soon as I bring a sus2 chord and play downstrokes, the song enters a Shoegaze terrain.
The a string maj9 chord is my absolute favorite chord and shape it's so wonderful to play! Awesome video!
So helpful thank you! I just started a shoegaze band with my friends and I’m the rhythm guitarist I was very stuck on a progression as I couldn’t find a chord which flowed nicely with the previous. Luckily I found this video :) you literally helped me write my first ever song thank you
The blues influence in Shoegaze is kinda crazy!
Dang this video is awesome. I’m a rhythm guitarist and seeing these chords helps me find more chords to learn to play. Awesome job
For anyone wanting to learn more of these, they're called shell chords, used heavily in jazz
That vocabulary of "shell chords" alone legit opened up more than what this video offered. Now that I know what they are I don't need a "cheat" sheet to find them. Thanks. haha
My gf introduced me to shoegaze and I love it. As a jazz guitarist, the chord shapes are super similar
Awesome that so many ambient, jazz, neo-soul/r&b, math-rock, cuban son and bossa chord progressions are quite similar to shoegaze. The big difference lies in rhythms and metrics👌🏽
Darkwave and shoegaze is my pb and jam ❤
Esus2 is probably my favourite chord in all of music. it’s so everything
amazing tips. thanks for expanding my chord collection time and time again
That dom7sus4! I was crying for resolution! Beautiful. 😊
Trevor, you're the best dude.
Definitely adding this to my repertoire thank you so much for sharing this!
love it short and simple amazing quality great job man thank you
Didn't know the favourite chords I was playing all the time were Shoegaze chords
Such a beautiful tone you’ve dialed in!
sound amazing
this makes me to run at my grandpa's house and rock his old ass gibson.. nice video !
Yup! You are the right teacher at the right time!!!
🙏
Gorgeous! I absolutely love the open chords . Sus 2 chords are something I found from dream theater Contortionist and other prog music. I love those chords! I'm also a big fan of add 9 chords too!
I meant I really like major 7 and minor 7 chords. Rather than chords from the first three frets :)
Unbelievable.
Gracias por los acordes bro. Saludos desde Oaxaca México 🇲🇽
Really good video. New chord shapes always help to find new ways.
Thank you!
I just love the right to the point notes!! Thx you sm!
amazing, thank you for this! your videos are always either very helpful or very enjoyable :D
Wow! Genius !
lovely!
This is a friendly video. Thanks for posting.
good stuff definitely gave me more insight. i knew all these ways but still cool to see it play out especially when you need ideas
Esus2 is one of the most beautiful chords ive ever heard... woah...
*Excellent stuff here Trevor! Glad to see you got the powerchords and Sus2 chords in there too hahaha
This video was god sent 🙏🏾 thank you 👌🏾💯
great video!
thanks!
bro thank you for covering shoegaze ideas actually yuge
this is so fireeeeeee omg
holy shit ur the goat
Thank you for inspiring
Gotta love sus2 chords.
great video thanks
Esus2 on the A String is the epitome of shoegaze.
These are literally the only chords I've been playing for the last 10 years and I had no idea what their names were lmao
nuhun tips na a ka angge pisan
Thank
thank you! ive learned more on you channel than i did in the 5+ years in of lessons i took. lol. youre the best, dude
ps; do you have a video in ALL G or All D tuning? apparently dudes like Thurston Moore and Kevin Sheilds would tune all their strings to the same note in order to get their drone-y shoegaze sounds. (thurston said he learned it from old blues guitarists, so you could maybe even do a blues video if you want)
when those tunings are used, it's usually open. meaning they just strum all the strings as they are to do 1 big drone. This is known as ostrich tuning first done by Lou Reed and the velvet underground. If any chords are played, all the notes are probably going to be the same. They'd probably fret down multiple strings on the same frets. You can look up Sonic Youth tabs and such too to see how these artists use them
I just love the sound of those sus 2's
wave to earth core
ty
G maj 7th reminds me of the first chord I hear in Parkway Drives song The river, sounds so cool
Reminds me of akira yamaoka!!
Slowdive type ❤
Nice!
Though i play less shoegazing than psychedelic, the only chord missing in my repertoire is the major…
Who are your favorite shoe gaze artists Trevor?
Sus2 will always remind me of everlong
Tried making a song with some sus2s, accidentally copied the second chord of everlong with the same strum pattern pretty much
Damn those half barre chords kill me how do people even do them like D7sus4 one
i never realized the first 2 chords aCTUALLY was m7th!!!
Sounds like sales
More plzz
❤
Sounds like the underwater levels in Super Mario 64
0:39 pain. (no like i have smaller hands and it HURTS)
Yesss trying to do this on acoustic it’s TOUGH
i love you i love you
Shoegaze chords? You’re special.
So it’s jazz with reverb fuzz and delay
Chords kind of sus.
How do you get that sound? Can you share us the amp settings? Thank you.
The 4th type of chords shown in the video are added9 chords not sus2. 🙂
Your neck is beautiful, what type of frets are those?
What makes the sus 2 chords sus 2 rather than add 9 chords? Feel bad for misnaming my favorite chord
Is there a link to the tabs that were shown ?
Can I use this position for other guitar keys
Thanks for the vid, very simple yet informative! :)
What Tele is the one u're using? I like mine, but need to change the pickups due to production error.
found out yet?
@@mirrorlightsprod nope, unfortunately not yet :/
Are Telecaster guitars good for Shoegaze?
How are all of these chords in the key of g major
That last chord looks really hard to play
Thanks for all your videos man! Do you have any with this tuning: CGCEGC. This is the used by Elliot Smith and Joni Mitchell.
what’s guitar model is that?
telecaster
a jazz chord right?
I need these chords so I can be mysterious to other girls
Sus chords are beautiful
Can someone pleaseee tell me what kind of guitar that is?😭Im trying to go for something indie, dreamy tune. No rock tune. The song called „can i call you tonight by Dayglow“ that’s the kind of guitar im looking for !! I would really appreciate the help bec i don’t want to buy the wrong guitar since they are already so expensive
have you found out 😭
@@mirrorlightsprod yes! you need a pedal if you want your guitar to have a different tone
what's the music in the end?
what guitar is that?
That’s a lot of sus dominants
Wait, how can it be a 7 chord if there are only 3 notes?
sometimes you can omit other notes like the 5th,
you can make a chord sounding a 7th by just pressing the root, 3rd, and 7th or minor 3rd or min 7 if you want minor
@@reumur yeah but then it becomes a triad, not a 7th chord, it's an omit5 chord then if I understand it correctly
SUS chords 💀
What is shoegaze?
Sounds like shoelace.
Or Deftones.
Or so.
Sus
I feel like this is just the tab sheet to a My Bloody Valentine song which is cheating and I am reporting.
You lookin pretty sussy bruh.
Crazy that these are being called shoegaze chords they’re just jazz voicings
I don’t think any of these chords are in a single MBV song. Shoe gaze is a vibe not a theory. It’s a blend of unknowing, youth, chaos, and destructive harmony.
Bro are you aware MBV have weird guitar tunings? Those are the nearest shape so that you can still play in standard mode.
Sample of their guitar tunings
E-B-E-E-B-e
E-E-E-E-A-e
F-A#-D#-G#-C-f
They literally change their tuning so they can create 6 string extended chords. This video showcases that chords in standard tuning.
Certainly not unique to shoe gaze! Sounded like Johnny Marr chords to me.
It's a trick title. Nobody needs shoegaze
???
i do
Not only blind but deaf.
Shoegaze has become part of my life now.
