Being I first went on Haunted Mansion in 1969 and have seen every iteration of the ride, I am with Tom that going back to closer what the original Bride was is great. As he said, it use to be that you, the guest, sort of filled in the story. Back then and really up until the 2000’s most attractions did not have a back-story unless they were based on a Disney movie.
If they get rid of the the hanging man, then the intro won't make sense. "There's always my way" refers to how the ghost host got out, he hanged himself.

For real. The whole ride is a dealing with death and what lies beyond. And most deaths are neither happy nor pretty. I personally like Constance’s back story. It is interesting and I think it was done in a clever way. And while I understand this new take harkens back to the old mysterious bride, the old Constance pictures do not match it and do not offer a congruent attic story. Lastly, the new bride is terrible looking, imo. It looks cheap and looks like something I would see in a knock off haunted house. While the Constance one has issues, this replacement certainly cannot be called an upgrade. It is so disappointing that this is the best Disney could pull off for her. The rest of the ride looks pretty good though.
I remember the year my father passed away. The Halloween that followed was awful. I had to work at a place that sold Halloween merchandise, as it was seasonal. I had to see tombstones, and skeletons, and so many other things to remind me of death… …but you know what? People die. I’m not going to tell my employer to knock it off. I’m not going to quit over it. I’m not going to judge people for celebrating the holiday. That’s silly. I mean, I freaking INHERITED his WDW trip! So I rode Haunted Mansion BECAUSE he died! If I don’t want to be reminded of death, guess what? I wouldn’t ride it!
MSEP was my first parade and seeing the Baroque Hoedown underliner reused in PTN was extremely special. I’d love to see Spectro’s used in this new parade and I can’t help but notice a few possible nods in the Starlight logo to the SpectroMagic logo, the S & g especially.
I think that it wasn’t the subject matter of Constance’s hatchaway that bothered me but more how out of place it felt compared to the rest of the mansion never really fit in makes sense when you realize it was not apart of the mansions original vision
Promising Tomorrows was such a great event! I had some emotional moments with the reminiscing. Please keep doing these events. They illustrate all of the reasons I love these Disney parks!! I know it is a large endeavor to put on and I appreciate all of that.
I'm sorry but a billion dollar company that spent months putting together a store couldn't hand make a bunch of props for it to be ready at opening? That's not an excuse, we shouldn't see any home goods materials anywhere when you're the largest multinational media corporation in the world with the most profitable theme park cartel on the planet. It's inexcusable. You've got thousands of thousands of creative employees and you couldn't assign two or three of them to make some drawings or paintings in a couple of months? Meanwhile, you can find thousands of videos of independent artists doing live streaming or speed paintings of concept, art and original art and drawings in a few hours or a few days which look pristine and professional and finalized, but Disney, the largest organization with the entire fleet of imagineers available couldn't put up a few framed drawings that they made themselves? What are they doing over there? Meanwhile, the exterior of the store itself is literally a prefab building. The complaint is not that it should look dirty, the complaint is that you can tell that it's a shed that you could buy online. It has no character, no. Attributes that would make it look like it's the carriage House of the haunted Mansion. No one is saying that it should be dirty like the haunted Mansion because the haunted Mansion itself isn't dirty. It should look like it fits within the period and the landscape and the aesthetic. The haunted Mansion is an old plantation building, and the carriage House should look like something of that time. It literally looks like a home Depot shed.
Tom, I agree with you 💯 % about the Haunted Mansion changes. I think the Ghost Host in the stretching room needs to stay the same. Having known people who have prematurely ended their life early, & myself attemped to prematurely do the same. Thankfully, one attempt failed & my mother intervened before the 2nd attempt. I don't see taking it away is that big of a deal, if it means a few people in the history of all of disney won't ever have to possibly have a really bad triggering experience at the most magical place on earth. And I don't mean being offended. I mean someone actually having their mind go into extreme anxiety/depression that they can't shake for the day because a memory comes back in a very visual way.

The fate of me following Disney Theme parks and videos is all on that stretching room. If they go forward and remove that corpse, that's it. I will save money every year by never going back to Disneyland or Disney Parks ever again. The decision making behind these changes are absolute garbage starting far back to the Jungle Cruise changes. Yes, there were super important racial things that have been addressed over the years but by appealing to people "offended" by playful death (hell, "Happy Haunts" is a part of the Haunted Mansion anyway), I don't want to follow Disney Park blogs anymore. There is no more magic at the parks. The Disney corporation will finally admit to the world "We are cowards."
It's the death of a thousand cuts. For me it wasn't any one big thing... It was a bunch of little things like getting rid of the Tower of Terror, vandalizing Pirates so much, vandalizing Jungle Cruise, taking away a lot of quiet areas to make Galaxy's Edge or a Club 33 lobby, and so on. It's a cumulative effect for which something seemingly small like removing the Ghost Host can be a last straw.
Besides the hangman, they also got rid of the classic ghost effect in the haunted mansion graveyard scene (many people love how that ghost looks actually scary). wish they could've added her without removing him.

The HM was closed for a year - they needed to add something. The Constance effect never looked good, so I'm thrilled they replaced her. Kim is probably a little defensive about the gift shop, as it's a homage to her mother. The carriage house-it's not on the haunted mansion property it's next to it. The crypt behind is weathered, why not the carriage house ? I think they will do something amazing in the stretching room. Thanks as always Tom
WDW News.Tom, I don't know what Disney Imagineers have planned for the Stretching Room. But with all the ideas and effects they have available to them. With just a few crumbs from their table they should be able to pull off something of a "Wow" effect without getting out of bed in the morning. Cheers, Chris Perry.
I agree with you regarding the stretching room. Yes, it is suicide, but that is one of the ways one can become a ghost. Also,the initial narrative will have to change... How are they to justify ," There's always my way?" Love your shows.
I went on it Saturday and I loved the updated attic scene. She’s mysterious, beautiful and scary. That’s the kind of vibe she should have. I remember being terrified of the beating heart ghost as a kid. I thought Constance looked ridiculous and her storyline was too campy. The funny thing is with all the talk of the stretching room ghost, when I was a kid, I couldn’t really tell what it was and therefore it didn’t really scare me nearly as much as the bride. I hope that it stays, but I trust the imagineers with a new scene.
Ironically, in the new Phantom Manor it was made more clear that Melanie is the killer alongside the Phantom lol. The story in PM was far better before Tom Fitzgerald touched it though. They’ve moved closer to original PM in DL now, after Tom made PM more like ‘06 HM😂🤦🏻♂️ 20k Leagues walkthrough ruined by Tom too btw😭glad he’s no longer in charge in Paris! Just like Kim Irvine, these people are capable of good & bad work. We cant pretend theyre infallible. Sometimes the fans’ desires should be considered!
I’m not mad about the new bride, but the rationale for the change is insane. Serious how do you justify having a villains land (who I would put on the same level as Constance) and yet Constance is deemed too insensitive??
In regards to the physical hitchhiking ghosts, in 2023 when we had our last round of Classic mansion, the mechanism kept breaking. We went days and weeks without anything appearing in the mirrors (they simply covered them up on the reverse of the two way mirror) until it could be fixed. Then it would be fixed and a week later, something would happen again. The new projections are cost and energy efficient and we have had far fewer downtimes!
I will say it again. I think the carriage house would look better with MORE PLANTS. It's too blank currently. Some extra foliage to blend it better between Mansion and Tiana's would do wonders for it and would add the extra detail I think it's missing. The inside looks great! It's the outside that looks unfinished.
I went to Disneyland in 2021, and while I was eating lunch in Tomorrowland, their marching band appeared out of nowhere and started playing the theme to Spectromagic! I almost cried! How beautiful! And it was DisneyLAND, not Disney WORLD. How hard would it have been to have that at WDW?

The original story has always been that the Bride, who is still named Constance (her name is on a small plaque mounted on one of the photos in the attic) was pushed out of an attic window. That is called out as one's Doom Buggy turns backwards and you fall out into the graveyard! If one peeps long enough, one can see that the new bride is standing in front of a broken window. She is a MOST appropriate Haunt! Your other topics about the Mansion and Mdm. Liotta's Shop are also fair and in line with my opinions! I, too, adore Kim Irvine!
I agree with you about the hanging corpse Tom. I have lost someone close the same way and it doesn't affect me at all. Just change it to freindly spectre mansion and lose the larger fan base.🤷🏻♂️
The new bride certainly looks better but I always loved Constance's story more than the beating heart bride. There's just something very intimidating about being confronted by the ghost of an axe welding murderer. Seeing all the husband's head disappear and then seeing her holding the axe always gave me chills. Her cheesy lines kinda ruined the moment and her face projection didn't age well but I always felt like her unique story made up for it. The old beating heart bride obviously had the better design; her face cast dark in shadow with those piercing eyes and glowing red heart. There's no question that the old bride has the superior design, it was simple and effective. This new bride I feel is too brightly lit and would've been creepier if it had the blacked out face with glowing eyes & less of the 'mystical' projection effects. It looks really good but it just doesn't fit well with some of the older models which makes her feel out of place. I also would've liked if they kept the murder aspect to her story, the attic scene was always the scariest in my opinion because it was so intimate. All in all, it's not the worse change in the world and is a great improvement no doubt. It's certainly fun for us Disney fans to discuss about but I honestly wasn't expect this level of backlash over it.
i have to be so honest with the bride. i'm a massive fanatic of the history of the haunted mansion bride. always been a beating heart bride > constance person, even though i never got to see her myself. i do not think this version looks good. maybe it's just the videos messing the quality up, but i think it looks painfully fake and less ambiguous. with the original figures, they obscured her in a way where she was dimly lit and just ominously looming in the attic corner. but story wise and getting the beating heart bride back i'm thrilled. hopefully it looks better in person lol.
I think that before Disney takes things out they should apply "would a reasonable person find this objectionable" "we wants the redhead" was an often quoted line from POTC and that change caused some to stop enjoying the ride and skipping it. There is no reason to remove that hanging person. For the love of God it’s a haunted house. At that point you might as well just remove all the ghost. Because what if somebody who knew somebody that died, saw the ghost then it’ll make them sad.
And exactly same thing about the red head you’re not supposed to be looking up to these pirates. Their pirates. You’re not supposed to see yourself in this ride. It’s not supposed to be something you want to be. You might as well remove every pirate then. Get rid of all the alcohol and guns and then you truly have Boy Scouts of the Caribbean. Also, let’s just say this now. If you replace that hanging man. It is just going to be replaced by a projection of some sort and if there are true fan boys and fan girls in WDI they would know that it’s integral to the story and fight to keep it if they were true fans that is
I disagree with you. They need to remove that hanging corpse and add something new to replace it. Leave all the guns to the pirates because they used it in Pirates Of The Caribbean, as it's part of the classic attractions
I like the new bride because Haunted Mansion is (for me) about expectations. You think it's gonna be a terrifying ride among dead people and murders etc.. but it the end its just ghost chilling 😅. It's my favorite bit about this ride. It's like: you assume they're gonna be violent because they're ghost but really they are just having tea party. I mean: grim grinning ghost about to SOCIALIZE! So a random murderous women felt out of place. But the new bride is more about the sadness of a close one departure. So there's still emotion.
You know if you couldn’t have a hanging corpse, why not have a projection of him falling from the rafters? Still has some punch, more kinetic energy, still frightening.
I always enjoy the rants. I agree with you pretty much on this. I think if they kept the scene and removed the hanged man, I would be very mad... it's a crucial part of the story. If they find a different way to communicate a similar thing to the hanged man with a cool effect, there's no reason to complain. It feels like when the boulder crushed you at the end of Snow white's scary adventures... Not bad but it's of a different era... I loved it, but for most people you can modernize it and respect the original vision and push new boundaries. Thus, snow white's enchanted wish which turned out awesome. As for the bride, bring it to Florida! Some people here say, "I like the unique story." Well, it's not much of a story... the story is, "A woman chopped her husband's head off over and over again". If I told you that story, unless it's around the campfire, it's not a great story, and all the puzzle pieces are there. Even then, I don't think it's that creepy or scary... I'll just not marry her, and I'll be safe. The new bride, there's a lot more questions, which adds intrigue. Plus there's really good visual storytelling in that "she's" in the candelabra scene earlier. It reinforces that Madame Leota brings the spirits to life with the séance (unlike the hatbox ghost in Florida), as the same spirit is invisible earlier and then visible later. As for the AI art, even as a temporary thing, as a company founded by artists and loved by artists, they can't buy and display something that was created by stealing others artwork. I'm surprised they didn't see this coming and are still partially defending it.
I've never been the biggest fan of the Haunted Mansion but all these changes happening... especially to MY mansion at Disneyland make me upset and sad. The queue project was great. I think they did a wonderful job with it. No complaints there. This new bride is okay. I definitely think that the old one looked kind of weird and gross and like a mall cutout. The new one doesn't look THAT much better but it's fine for what it is. If that hanging corpse disappears from the stretching room... then Idk what Disney is on. If you remove it, you remove the reveal of the classic line by the Ghost Host. I mean, honestly, they would pretty much need to rewrite the entire Stretching Room because that reveal is the climax of the whole thing. What else are they even supposed to put there? How are they even going to convey HIS way out if the whole joke is that there is NO way out???? Bad move Disney, bad move. Now we get to the store. I hate this thing so much and it is easily one of the worst addition to Disneyland. Why? Not because there's a Haunted Mansion store. That's totally fine. It's not because of the decor inside. I really don't care that much. But the scale and ESPECIALLY the sightline is attrocious and someone aught to be ashamed of putting this monstrosity where it is. You used to be able to come out of Critter Country, climb that little hill over the drop, and you'd get an amazing reveal of the Mansion from the northern side. You'd get that nice picture perfect sight that drew you down towards New Orleans Square. Now you get this jumbled mess that honestly makes you want to turn around and go the other way. If I was to tell you that the Haunted Mansion was just behind Madame Leota's from that angle, you'd think I was joking. It's gross, it's awful, and it just makes absolutely no sense. I really thought that space would be okay for a shop but I was wrong and Disney proved that they really just don't care anymore

The LA Times article is not for the hardcore fanbase - its intended audience are the modern parents who read the LA times and are on the fence about Disney parks aligning with their values before they drop $3k in Anaheim. 47:35 I agree. Every time I walked by the trolley there was a long line and so I didn’t get to ride the trolley so I may not get to ride it before it closes. I wish they wouldn’t close it.

You learn something new everyday. I like backstories to characters like The Bride aka Constance Hatchaway and when I saw the ride of Haunted mansion before the change. I didn't notice the portraits of husbands up in the attic. Then came the reopening of the ride, I saw the portraits of the husbands each without their heads and I do like the new Bride look and great effects.
As a kid I did not understand that the stretching room crescendo was a hanging corpse. It was just something creepy and scary. Taking away the original element that drives the storyline is another example of Disney sanitation.
As sad as I would be if they got rid of the hanging man, I won't lie- I've always been shocked that they included it in the first place. Even as far as changes go for like, Jungle Cruise w/ the natives, the skulls in Adventureland, etc....suicide by hanging was still dark by any standards. I don't want them to remove it, but I'm surprised that wasn't the first thing they went after...
You know, I'm hopeful that the change to the stretch room will be good. I don't WANT it to change, but I like the change with the bride. I thought the original bride was MUCH much spookier, and looked MUCH much better. The NEW one isn't exactly what the OG was, but it's DEFININATELY a welcome return! I never liked Constance compared to our lovely Beating Heart Bride! And hey, we got a great new working Hatbox ghost from Imagineers! Something we thought would NEVER return! Kinda sad that the hitchhiking ghost animatronics are gone at the exit, but the new projections look MILES better that the Magic Kingdom and pretty dang close to the actual animatronics you encounter at the end of the graveyard! The AI situation though isn't okay plain and simple. My love for the Haunted Mansion has rematerialized tenfold!
Not sure what is exactly back there aside from space used for a meet and greet during Oogie Boogie Bash, but I still feel like the space on the side of Soarin’ in DCA could’ve been used as the new home for the trolley instead of closing it permanently. Don’t know the logistics of adding track to go back there, but it’s better than losing it.
Tom, I’m really hoping and praying that Disney’s Starlight Parade will be as good or possibly even better than SpectroMagic, or my all-time personal favorite, The Main Street Electrical Parade, but they’ve got two hugely successful parades to look up to. I really hope they can pull it off, because those two nighttime spectaculars were LEGENDARY.
They moved the Manatees to the Gulfarium…located on a barrier island (near Destin, FL) just in time for that area to experience snowfall on Tuesday, yeah, snowfall between Pensacola and Tallahassee.
i have had lots of issues with self harm and suicidal idealization, i had a really rough time when my friend stole my life savings under the guise of going to disney. so i finally got to go 3 years after she scammed me and when i went in 2018 i was still haveing issues but i was so happy i was finally on the haunted after not being since 04. when the voice said "theres always my way out" i started to giggle and out loud said I'VE BEEN TRYING, but then again im also a haunt actor for a living so i have a sick sense of humor
For years I have felt it is odd that Universal Studios has HHN with actual scenes of murder and dismemberment and evil acts and yet it is wildly popular and anticipated by thousands every year. That glorification of horrendous acts humans commit against each other is highly disturbing and insensitive to people have experienced such trauma in their real lives. And yet it exists. But the corpse in the stretching room is too much for the public? I understand the parks have different audiences but it’s the same humanity that visits both. How do we determine what is insensitive? I just don’t get what is ok and what is not.
What is okay and what is not is determined by the will of the people doing it to stand up for their own creative integrity. Universal is, Disney is not. And that's not saying that every choice Universal makes is good and every choice Disney makes is bad (though the latter is mostly true). But Disney caves and Universal doesn't.

can you book 1 day on a 3 day ticket ? this eliminates the need to stay on property. you stay off property, buy a date based ticket for 1 day for all the rides. then buy a seperate date based ticket with no extras for the vibes. you will still come out ahead vs the inflated disney hotel costs.

No they are people who enjoy the ride as is and are not sensitive weaklings who are afraid of a fake hanging corpse and can’t enjoy what it adds to the ride.
I would disagree. If you had a loved one commit suicide recently, and you're family is going to disney to escape that sad reality for a bit. It could be very triggering to see that depiction in a Live kind of way. Obviously that is a small chance of happening. But a chance none the less that could really emotionally and mentally devastate someone for a day. It's not about offending people. It's about taking care of people in situations that could happen.

I wanna ask. Why the hell would a ride would a ride named the "Haunted Mansion" remove the scary elements. They might as well make it into "The Mansion" if we are removing the scare factor
They used to have a sign out front of "Snow White's Scary Adventures" that basically said, "hey - there's a witch. It's scary." That seems like a fair solution for the Mansion, rather than alter a part of the attraction that many people genuinely enjoy. Otherwise, I don't see how they can take out the effect, and still have the Ghost Host narration make sense. What exactly will "his way" be if you change it, Kim? Explain that to us first, and then we'll let you know if it's worth figuring out how to remove the prop.
Speaking of Snow White I really do love what they did when they changed it. They kept some of the "scary" scenes but they added so much more "wow" factor.
That’s my main request. If the hanging ghost host scene disappears, yeah I hope whatever replaces it will be something amazing. Because you still need that opening jump scare to help set the mood. The folks at WDI, especially the Mansion fans, can surely come up with something more creative than a flying bat effect, at least one rumor suggests.
Maybe they could do a similar route to phantom manor, where a “figure” is shown showing a noose while laughing maniacally (ghost host laughter). The monologue before would likely need to be slightly reworked to where the laughter is edited to be part of the new “climax” of the scene.
You cant just rip out the hanging corpse and replace it with something better. The Ghost Host gettibg out "my way" is part of the story. Uslnless they're going to use AI thry can't get Pail Frees to record new lines.
Disney just keeps working hard to ensure I never find a reason to go back. My all time favorite rides: Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Splash Mountain. 1 down, sure seems 2 to go. I dropped my pass back after covid and haven't returned to the park once. I used to go often. Disney working on ensuring there is no nostalgic reason for me to ever return.

I’ve been waiting for them to go back to the heartbeat bride for so long, and while I’m really glad to see it happen I don’t really get why they had to rely so heavily on projection, specifically the face, I don’t get why they opted for it when she doesn’t move or emote, at that point just make it a sculpt. That really would have pulled her together. Overall I still think the Tokyo bride is the best out of the current bride. (Not counting Melanie since she is in the ride in multiple scenes as a full figure/animatronic.)
So once again Disney craps on their own legacy, and not only that the only ride that I literally themed my room after, so this one REALLY pisses me off.

While the Constance one has issues, this replacement certainly cannot be called an upgrade. It is so disappointing that this is the best Disney could pull off for her. The rest of the ride looks pretty good though.

I remember the year my father passed away. The Halloween that followed was awful. I had to work at a place that sold Halloween merchandise, as it was seasonal. I had to see tombstones, and skeletons, and so many other things to remind me of death… …but you know what? People die. I’m not going to tell my employer to knock it off. I’m not going to quit over it. I’m not going to judge people for celebrating the holiday. That’s silly. I mean, I freaking INHERITED his WDW trip! So I rode Haunted Mansion BECAUSE he died! If I don’t want to be reminded of death, guess what? I wouldn’t ride it!
MSEP was my first parade and seeing the Baroque Hoedown underliner reused in PTN was extremely special. I’d love to see Spectro’s used in this new parade and I can’t help but notice a few possible nods in the Starlight logo to the SpectroMagic logo, the S & g especially.
I think that it wasn’t the subject matter of Constance’s hatchaway that bothered me but more how out of place it felt compared to the rest of the mansion never really fit in makes sense when you realize it was not apart of the mansions original vision
Promising Tomorrows was such a great event! I had some emotional moments with the reminiscing. Please keep doing these events. They illustrate all of the reasons I love these Disney parks!! I know it is a large endeavor to put on and I appreciate all of that.
I'm sorry but a billion dollar company that spent months putting together a store couldn't hand make a bunch of props for it to be ready at opening? That's not an excuse, we shouldn't see any home goods materials anywhere when you're the largest multinational media corporation in the world with the most profitable theme park cartel on the planet. It's inexcusable. You've got thousands of thousands of creative employees and you couldn't assign two or three of them to make some drawings or paintings in a couple of months? Meanwhile, you can find thousands of videos of independent artists doing live streaming or speed paintings of concept, art and original art and drawings in a few hours or a few days which look pristine and professional and finalized, but Disney, the largest organization with the entire fleet of imagineers available couldn't put up a few framed drawings that they made themselves? What are they doing over there? Meanwhile, the exterior of the store itself is literally a prefab building. The complaint is not that it should look dirty, the complaint is that you can tell that it's a shed that you could buy online. It has no character, no. Attributes that would make it look like it's the carriage House of the haunted Mansion. No one is saying that it should be dirty like the haunted Mansion because the haunted Mansion itself isn't dirty. It should look like it fits within the period and the landscape and the aesthetic. The haunted Mansion is an old plantation building, and the carriage House should look like something of that time. It literally looks like a home Depot shed.
Tom, I agree with you 💯 % about the Haunted Mansion changes. I think the Ghost Host in the stretching room needs to stay the same. Having known people who have prematurely ended their life early, & myself attemped to prematurely do the same. Thankfully, one attempt failed & my mother intervened before the 2nd attempt. I IN NO WAY AM OFFENDED BY THE GHOST HOST IN THE STRETCHING ROOM! That part is original from 1969 Disneyland, & needs to stay!

The fate of me following Disney Theme parks and videos is all on that stretching room. If they go forward and remove that corpse, that's it. I will save money every year by never going back to Disneyland or Disney Parks ever again. The decision making behind these changes are absolute garbage starting far back to the Jungle Cruise changes. Yes, there were super important racial things that have been addressed over the years but by appealing to people "offended" by playful death (hell, "Happy Haunts" is a part of the Haunted Mansion anyway), I don't want to follow Disney Park blogs anymore. There is no more magic at the parks. The Disney corporation will finally admit to the world "We are cowards."
It's the death of a thousand cuts. For me it wasn't any one big thing... It was a bunch of little things like getting rid of the Tower of Terror, vandalizing Pirates so much, vandalizing Jungle Cruise, taking away a lot of quiet areas to make Galaxy's Edge or a Club 33 lobby, and so on. It's a cumulative effect for which something seemingly small like removing the Ghost Host can be a last straw.
Besides the hangman, they also got rid of the classic ghost effect in the haunted mansion graveyard scene (many people love how that ghost looks actually scary). wish they could've added her without removing him.

The HM was closed for a year - they needed to add something. The Constance effect never looked good, so I'm thrilled they replaced her. Kim is probably a little defensive about the gift shop, as it's a homage to her mother. The carriage house-it's not on the haunted mansion property it's next to it. The crypt behind is weathered, why not the carriage house ? I think they will do something amazing in the stretching room. Thanks as always Tom

WDW News.Tom, I don't know what Disney Imagineers have planned for the Stretching Room. But with all the ideas and effects they have available to them. I went on it Saturday and I loved the updated attic scene. She’s mysterious, beautiful and scary. That’s the kind of vibe she should have. I remember being terrified of the beating heart ghost as a kid. I thought Constance looked ridiculous and her storyline was too campy. The funny thing is with all the talk of the stretching room ghost, when I was a kid, I couldn’t really tell what it was and therefore it didn’t really scare me nearly as much as the bride. I hope that it stays, but I trust the imagineers with a new scene.

Ironically, in the new Phantom Manor it was made more clear that Melanie is the killer alongside the Phantom lol. The story in PM was far better before Tom Fitzgerald touched it though. They’ve moved closer to original PM in DL now, after Tom made PM more like ‘06 HM😂🤦🏻♂️

I’m not mad about the new bride, but the rationale for the change is insane. Serious how do you justify having a villains land (who I would put on the same level as Constance) and yet Constance is deemed too insensitive??
In regards to the physical hitchhiking ghosts, in 2023 when we had our last round of Classic mansion, the mechanism kept breaking. We went days and weeks without anything appearing in the mirrors (they simply covered them up on the reverse of the two way mirror) until it could be fixed. Then it would be fixed and a week later, something would happen again. The new projections are cost and energy efficient and we have had far fewer downtimes!
I will say it again. I think the carriage house would look better with MORE PLANTS. It's too blank currently. Some extra foliage to blend it better between Mansion and Tiana's would do wonders for it and would add the extra detail I think it's missing. The inside looks great! It's the outside that looks unfinished.

I went to Disneyland in 2021, and while I was eating lunch in Tomorrowland, their marching band appeared out of nowhere and started playing the theme to Spectromagic! I almost cried! How beautiful! And it was DisneyLAND, not Disney WORLD. How hard would it have been to have that at WDW?

Tom, I fully honor and agree with your D-Land Haunted Mansion Rant! The original story has always been that the Bride, who is still named Constance (her name is on a small plaque mounted on one of the photos in the attic) was pushed out of an attic window. That is called out as one's Doom Buggy turns backwards and you fall out into the graveyard! If one peeps long enough, one can see that the new bride is standing in front of a broken window. She is a MOST appropriate Haunt! Your other topics about the Mansion and Mdm. Liotta's Shop are also fair and in line with my opinions!

The new bride certainly looks better but I always loved Constance's story more than the beating heart bride. There's just something very intimidating about being confronted by the ghost of an axe welding murderer. Seeing all the husband's head disappear and then seeing her holding the axe always gave me chills. Her cheesy lines kinda ruined the moment and her face projection didn't age well but I always felt like her unique story made up for it. The old beating heart bride obviously had the better design; her face cast dark in shadow with those piercing eyes and glowing red heart. There's no question that the old bride has the superior design, it was simple and effective. This new bride I feel is too brightly lit and would've been creepier if it had the blacked out face with glowing eyes & less of the 'mystical' projection effects. It looks really good but it just doesn't fit well with some of the older models which makes her feel out of place. I also would've liked if they kept the murder aspect to her story, the attic scene was always the scariest in my opinion because it was so intimate. All in all, it's not the worse change in the world and is a great improvement no doubt. It's certainly fun for us Disney fans to discuss about but I honestly wasn't expect this level of backlash over it.
i have to be so honest with the bride. i'm a massive fanatic of the history of the haunted mansion bride. always been a beating heart bride > constance person, even though i never got to see her myself. i do not think this version looks good. maybe it's just the videos messing the quality up, but i think it looks painfully fake and less ambiguous. with the original figures, they obscured her in a way where she was dimly lit and just ominously looming in the attic corner. but story wise and getting the beating heart bride back i'm thrilled. hopefully it looks better in person lol.

I think that before Disney takes things out they should apply "would a reasonable person find this objectionable" "we wants the redhead" was an often quoted line from POTC and that change caused some to stop enjoying the ride and skipping it. There is no reason to remove that hanging person. For the love of God it’s a haunted house. At that point you might as well just remove all the ghost. Because what if somebody who knew somebody that died, saw the ghost then it’ll make them sad.

It’s not supposed to be something you want to be. You might as well remove every pirate then. Get rid of all the alcohol and guns and then you truly have Boy Scouts of the Caribbean. I like the new bride because Haunted Mansion is (for me) about expectations. You think it's gonna be a terrifying ride among dead people and murders etc.. but it the end its just ghost chilling 😅. It's my favorite bit about this ride. It's like: you assume they're gonna be violent because they're ghost but really they are just having tea party. I mean: grim grinning ghost about to SOCIALIZE! So a random murderous women felt out of place. But the new bride is more about the sadness of a close one departure. So there's still emotion.
You know if you couldn’t have a hanging corpse, why not have a projection of him falling from the rafters? Still has some punch, more kinetic energy, still frightening.
I always enjoy the rants. I agree with you pretty much on this. I think if they kept the scene and removed the hanged man, I would be very mad... it's a crucial part of the story. If they find a different way to communicate a similar thing to the hanged man with a cool effect, there's no reason to complain. It feels like when the boulder crushed you at the end of Snow white's scary adventures... Not bad but it's of a different era... I loved it, but for most people you can modernize it and respect the original vision and push new boundaries. Thus, snow white's enchanted wish which turned out awesome. As for the bride, bring it to Florida! Some people here say, "I like the unique story." Well, it's not much of a story... the story is, "A woman chopped her husband's head off over and over again". If I told you that story, unless it's around the campfire, it's not a great story, and all the puzzle pieces are there. Even then, I don't think it's that creepy or scary... I'll just not marry her, and I'll be safe. The new bride, there's a lot more questions, which adds intrigue. Plus there's really good visual storytelling in that "she's" in the candelabra scene earlier. It reinforces that Madame Leota brings the spirits to life with the séance (unlike the hatbox ghost in Florida), as the same spirit is invisible earlier and then visible later. As for the AI art, even as a temporary thing, as a company founded by artists and loved by artists, they can't buy and display something that was created by stealing others artwork. I'm surprised they didn't see this coming and are still partially defending it.
I've never been the biggest fan of the Haunted Mansion but all these changes happening... especially to MY mansion at Disneyland make me upset and sad. The queue project was great. I think they did a wonderful job with it. No complaints there. This new bride is okay. I definitely think that the old one looked kind of weird and gross and like a mall cutout. The new one doesn't look THAT much better but it's fine for what it is. If that hanging corpse disappears from the stretching room... then Idk what Disney is on. If you remove it, you remove the reveal of the classic line by the Ghost Host. I mean, honestly, they would pretty much need to rewrite the entire Stretching Room because that reveal is the climax of the whole thing. What else are they even supposed to put there? How are they even going to convey HIS way out if the whole joke is that there is NO way out???? Bad move Disney, bad move.
Now we get to the store. I hate this thing so much and it is easily one of the worst addition to Disneyland. Why? Not because there's a Haunted Mansion store. That's totally fine. It's not because of the decor inside. I really don't care that much. But the scale and ESPECIALLY the sightline is attrocious and someone aught to be ashamed of putting this monstrosity where it is. You used to be able to come out of Critter Country, climb that little hill over the drop, and you'd get an amazing reveal of the Mansion from the northern side. You'd get that nice picture perfect sight that drew you down towards New Orleans Square. Now you get this jumbled mess that honestly makes you want to turn around and go the other way. If I was to tell you that the Haunted Mansion was just behind Madame Leota's from that angle, you'd think I was joking. It's gross, it's awful, and it just makes absolutely no sense. I really thought that space would be okay for a shop but I was wrong and Disney proved that they really just don't care anymore

I am a vibes over rides person, & explains why the Peoplemover is still my favorite attraction of all time. Unfortunately, the last time I have been to Disneyland was in 1998. You learn something new everyday. I like backstories to characters like The Bride aka Constance Hatchaway and when I saw the ride of Haunted mansion before the change. I didn't notice the portraits of husbands up in the attic. Then came the reopening of the ride, I saw the portraits of the husbands each without their heads and I do like the new Bride look and great effects.
As a kid I did not understand that the stretching room crescendo was a hanging corpse. It was just something creepy and scary. Taking away the original element that drives the storyline is another example of Disney sanitation.
The new bride looks like shitty CGI in all the videos l’ve seen. But I can’t tell if it’s Disney’s fault or poor quality UA-camrs. 😂

You know, I'm hopeful that the change to the stretch room will be good. I don't WANT it to change, but I like the change with the bride. I never liked Constance compared to our lovely Beating Heart Bride! And hey, we got a great new working Hatbox ghost from Imagineers! Something we thought would NEVER return! Kinda sad that the hitchhiking ghost animatronics are gone at the exit, but the new projections look MILES better that the Magic Kingdom and pretty dang close to the actual animatronics you encounter at the end of the graveyard! The AI situation though isn't okay plain and simple. My love for the Haunted Mansion has rematerialized tenfold!
Not sure what is exactly back there aside from space used for a meet and greet during Oogie Boogie Bash, but I still feel like the space on the side of Soarin’ in DCA could’ve been used as the new home for the trolley instead of closing it permanently. Don’t know the logistics of adding track to go back there, but it’s better than losing it.
Tom, I’m really hoping and praying that Disney’s Starlight Parade will be as good or possibly even better than SpectroMagic, or my all-time personal favorite, The Main Street Electrical Parade, but they’ve got two hugely successful parades to look up to. I really hope they can pull it off, because those two nighttime spectaculars were LEGENDARY.

i have had lots of issues with self harm and suicidal idealization, i had a really rough time when my friend stole my life savings under the guise of going to disney. so i finally got to go 3 years after she scammed me and when i went in 2018 i was still haveing issues but i was so happy i was finally on the haunted after not being since 04. when the voice said "theres always my way out" i started to giggle and out loud said I'VE BEEN TRYING, but then again im also a haunt actor for a living so i have a sick sense of humor

For years I have felt it is odd that Universal Studios has HHN with actual scenes of murder and dismemberment and evil acts and yet it is wildly popular and anticipated by thousands every year. That glorification of horrendous acts humans commit against each other is highly disturbing and insensitive to people have experienced such trauma in their real lives. And yet it exists. But the corpse in the stretching room is too much for the public? I understand the parks have different audiences but it’s the same humanity that visits both. How do we determine what is insensitive? I just don’t get what is ok and what is not.

What is okay and what is not is determined by the will of the people doing it to stand up for their own creative integrity. Universal is, Disney is not. And that's not saying that every choice Universal makes is good and every choice Disney makes is bad (though the latter is mostly true). But Disney caves and Universal doesn't.

I would disagree. If you had a loved one commit suicide recently, and you're family is going to disney to escape that sad reality for a bit. It could be very triggering to see that depiction in a Live kind of way. Obviously that is a small chance of happening. But a chance none the less that could really emotionally and mentally devastate someone for a day. It's not about offending people. It's about taking care of people in situations that could happen.

Its not the corpse itself. Its that the ghost host suggesting you do it. So i would think the audio would change too.
And they could give the whole thing a new audio with the bride as the voice.
They used to have a sign out front of "Snow White's Scary Adventures" that basically said, "hey - there's a witch. It's scary." That seems like a fair solution for the Mansion, rather than alter a part of the attraction that many people genuinely enjoy. Otherwise, I don't see how they can take out the effect, and still have the Ghost Host narration make sense. What exactly will "his way" be if you change it, Kim? Explain that to us first, and then we'll let you know if it's worth figuring out how to remove the prop.
That's probably the real problem. They're not sure how to remove the scene and keep the narration.
Speaking of Snow White I really do love what they did when they changed it. They kept some of the "scary" scenes but they added so much more "wow" factor.
What ball pit at Space Mountain? Never seen or heard about that. Primary have ridden the DLR mountain, only done WDW one once in 2017.
That’s my main request. If the hanging ghost host scene disappears, yeah I hope whatever replaces it will be something amazing. Because you still need that opening jump scare to help set the mood. The folks at WDI, especially the Mansion fans, can surely come up with something more creative than a flying bat effect, at least one rumor suggests.
Maybe they could do a similar route to phantom manor, where a “figure” is shown showing a noose while laughing maniacally (ghost host laughter). The monologue before would likely need to be slightly reworked to where the laughter is edited to be part of the new “climax” of the scene.
@ I like the sound of that. Maybe the Ghost Host can still be the figure, or actually show him as his “Hatchet Man” version.

You cant just rip out the hanging corpse and replace it with something better. The Ghost Host gettibg out "my way" is part of the story. Uslnless they're going to use AI thry can't get Pail Frees to record new lines.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but as I’ve pointed out before Disney has said “There are NO sacred cows !”
Disney just keeps working hard to ensure I never find a reason to go back. My all time favorite rides: Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Splash Mountain. 1 down, sure seems 2 to go. I dropped my pass back after covid and haven't returned to the park once. I used to go often. Disney working on ensuring there is no nostalgic reason for me to ever return.
I’m glad you plan on visiting Little Joe. Please let us know how he’s doing. I am fearful of a Tom Rant, as I’ve been to the Gulfarium. It’s not a very “magical” place. Supposed to snow there tomorrow. Oh, but as a Jaws fan, you’re aware that they filmed Jaws 2 near there, right?
I’ve been waiting for them to go back to the heartbeat bride for so long, and while I’m really glad to see it happen I don’t really get why they had to rely so heavily on projection, specifically the face, I don’t get why they opted for it when she doesn’t move or emote, at that point just make it a sculpt. That really would have pulled her together. Overall I still think the Tokyo bride is the best out of the current bride. (Not counting Melanie since she is in the ride in multiple scenes as a full figure/animatronic.)
So once again Disney craps on their own legacy, and not only that the only ride that I literally themed my room after, so this one REALLY pisses me off.
I was a mansion cast member for 10 years… the corpse hanging has nothing to do with the structural integrity … it can be easily removed I have been up there many times.. not that technical
