Roger Carter = 🐐 I remember auditioning for Freelancers when he was caption head. He was playing with the most chewed up sticks I have ever seen, and he still had the best quality I have ever heard in my life. LIVING LEGEND.
Initially Sean auditioned for snare for the 94 season. He played snare at John North High School in Riverside, Ca. He wasn't cutting it with BD snare line. Because Matt Hansen (who marched Tenors for BD in 93) and Sean went to High school together, he asked Scott Johnson (Caption Head) if he can take Sean aside for 2 weeks on tenors. Two weeks later Sean made the tenor line and took his GED to for go his senior year in H.S.
These cats didn't play games in 94 a year before I was born....They marked time and gave it to you...Those basses my GOD....snares...My God...I wish someone would publish the 94 bluedevils entire book..I would be the first to buy it.....However released this footage or any other footage of the 94 bluedevils...I owe it to you....Thank You Thank You Thank You
LOL. The first half is Robbie Bux (named after Rob Sirat) and (including the tap-off) had been part of BD's on-the-field warm up since the early 80s. We hated the Ditty when Kevin (Murray) first wrote it for us b/c it felt like sacrilege and we liked being part of that tradition. I suppose this marked the transition into a new tradition.
the dynasty snares sound like tin cans. i think it was a combo of the yamaha snares, all off the dudes not choking the sticks and all playing the exact same way, and roger's snareline being a bunch of a badasses that make them sound so good.
This video rules i wish i had my old Vids Sean Vega runnin things he was still in HS makin the quad line drivin back n forth all the time from so cal gangsta...
RE: Tenors - Good ole Matt Hansen on center, peice of trvia, that was Sean Vega's first year tenors ever, let me know if you want more to the story....
No, we respected them. They were great BD alumni themselves. They had rings, individual championships and had produced a line that won high percussion in '91. But, we were a tough group to teach. I said this on another video but there was one day when we were learning the book where the snareline almost revolted against the staff over how "simple" it was. We felt like we had all this talent and it wasn't being showcased. LOL. We were being egotistical little kids basically.
They are so much better....really. look at BD now, and back then. Stick heights are perfect then, and now, the sound the same, but heights are different!
Snares and Basses sounded great, but I thought the tenor tuning could have been better. Either way, Roger Carter is a BEAST! His technique was flawless. Hopefully I will get to march under him if I make the Bluecoats in the near future.
Yeah the Dynasty's sounded pretty good, but I have to Say now that they switched to the Pearls they sound a bit cleaner, probably because the sound is a little bit more tight... I'm not a fan of Yamaha's
how? i'm not bad mouthing roger and that snare line i know roger very well and hes an amazing player but iv herd cleaner beats from BDs snare line things change... the way people write change. and usually its for the best. no dont get me wrong i LOVE old school. its just hard to compare the two.
@MrSnareplaya Dynasty offered them free horns in 2000 if they switched to Dynasty drums. Yamaha didn't. Hence, they went with Dynasty. Dynasty was junk, but they agreed to let Scott design the drums. Now all the cool kids think DyNASTY is the tits. I still prefer both Yamaha and Pearl.
Yamaha drums sound like you’re hitting steel beams. I don’t like their drums. Dynasty wasn’t that good back in 2000. But now that Rennick has his hands on them they sound amazing. Pearl is amazing too but right now I think Dynasty sounds the best. (7 years later)

Roger’s vertical left. Legendary.
This never gets old! ❤️

They co-wrote. I don't know how much each of them took on but you can definitely feel the combination of their styles.
I remember looking up to these cats. Saw them live a few times.

i wish i had my old Vids

gangsta...
holy crap! a group snare pop at 1:58 at the end! freaking amazing!
The tenors don't play that part. The center tenor was playing snare parts to fill in.
i love that top bass lick at the end
damn, I wish I could play the singles at that height!
haha, i love the last tenor hit ^_^
Muscle shirt!
If I'm not mistaken this was the first year they played ditty.
I think this was recorded at my high school when BD stayed there the summer before my senior year.
RE: Tenors - Good ole Matt Hansen on center, peice of trvia, that was Sean Vega's first year tenors ever, let me know if you want more to the story....
What about the guy who missed the last hit after ditty. Jason Williams.
damn i remember havin this video in HS and watchin it daily
Roger Carter! The center snare is our tech.
They were so clean!
This is my inspiration
i think you might be right im comparing this to a more recent BD video i have and they are both sick but these guys sound a bit cleaner.
i didn't know that buckethead was the center snare in 1994...
@mcqDrumsFTW i agree... now days it seems like 90% of drummers out there are cocky as shit. Everyones got to criticize everyone.
must have been fun to go through the summer with all that hair
What happened to the other '94 ditty video? You know, the one where they're in the lot in Wisconson and they're in their under-garment uniforms.
Derek DeFields (Freelancers 92, BD 93-94)
!wish I could have been there!
Is that Chandler Hallow next to Roger Carter
@Trapmaker677 true that man 95 was a sweet year
I want to hear the story! I want to hear it all!
Remo falam heads top and bottom. Maybe falam 2s on top?
What are the accents on the beginning part of the video? The cadence thing I suppose?
our high school can play this... this is some hard shit
my god how do they play like that?!?! All wrist... nothing but wrist... Disagree with that, but I cannot disagree with the results!!!! WOW!!

are those beyond vertical heights i see? =D
@cosmodrum1 amen I love Yamaha and I recently bought a pearl snare what heads/head do you prefer?
whats that first part they play? And does anyone know how it goes and maybe write it out?
14 years later almost older than me but it’s an accent tap

that's cold man.
The guy with the long hair was center. And pretty much the whole line had the same problem of matching his left hand. Haha.
Is that Ike Jackson on bass ?
Hella clean
Amazing
i agree
@Mafiaboy45
well they have pearl this year :D
Snares and Basses sounded great, but I thought the tenor tuning could have been better. Either way, Roger Carter is a BEAST! His technique was flawless. Hopefully I will get to march under him if I make the Bluecoats in the near future.
are those double stroke rolls like RR LL RR LL about 1:50?
i think the dynasty snares sound the best but playing on a set of yamaha quads is sweet
OMG. awesomeeeee.
@Mafiaboy45 It's not the drums.
does anyone have the quad music for this?
who's on rogers right?
they should bring back the Robbie box
they are six tuplets
What song is this
lets go basses!
chiken wing right arm, but what ever gets the job done, obviously major chops
lol. they have the biggest drums too
Yeah the Dynasty's sounded pretty good, but I have to Say now that they switched to the Pearls they sound a bit cleaner, probably because the sound is a little bit more tight... I'm not a fan of Yamaha's
lol, only time the snares use arm is on the shots. beast...haha
roger looks so young lol...
i would go with evans heads!
damn..damn.................damn
thanks
uhhhhh yeah lol... i'll go with that
Is your High school in Ohio?
how? i'm not bad mouthing roger and that snare line i know roger very well and hes an amazing player but iv herd cleaner beats from BDs snare line things change... the way people write change. and usually its for the best. no dont get me wrong i LOVE old school. its just hard to compare the two.

lol my unlce was a good friend of Roger..lol they called him Jesus Christ
hahaha. fersho dough bluhd
Why? Cuz he looks like Jesus? XD
they should have stuck with yamaha
Gosh, they should bring back yamaha, I don't like their dynasty drums.
