The state faced constant threats from northern invaders, culminating in the Mongol conquest led by Kublai Khan, which ended the dynasty in 1279 CE. Despite these challenges, the Song dynasty left a lasting legacy on Chinese culture, science, and economic practices, influencing subsequent dynasties and contributing to China's historical prestige.
