She even helped to revive Weight Watchers after she invested nearly $44 million and became a spokesperson for the weight loss company. She did sell some of her stocks, but her initial investment reportedly grew over $400 million. It's clear that Oprah has the Midas touch, and there's actually a term that can be used to describe the effect that she has on businesses: the Oprah effect. It basically means that whenever Oprah endorses something, whether it be a product or a book, everybody goes out to buy it the next day. This is the reason why her book club was known for turning little-known books into best-sellers. And the Oprah effect doesn't just extend to products, it also changes lives. The greatest thing that Oprah has invested her money into is her Leadership Academy for Girls in Africa. This boarding school accepts girls from impoverished areas and gives them access to an education that would not have been possible without Oprah. Meeting my Lady O was one of the biggest moments of my life. She gives the best hugs and was so warm and accommodating to me. I also found her to be authentic and very present in the moment. I can also say from having dealt with her personally, she keeps her word and that means something to me. Oprah is a major source of inspiration for my life and someone extremely dear to my heart. Enzo Neves Oprah should have won the Oscar for her performance in “The Color Purple.” But Hollywood hated that young Steven Spielberg not only directed action adventure films but serious films as well. “The Color Purple” was nominated for 11 Oscars but won NONE. Oprah lost to Anjelica Huston in “Prizzi’s Honor.” It was a good performance, but she didn’t deserve to win. Anjelica is the daughter of legendary director John Huston and granddaughter of Oscar winning actor Walter Huston. Don’t tell me that didn’t help.
I love that she helps people. The African schools are such inspirations. I just shake my head at her amazing generosity. Oprah is a national treasure. Heck, she should win the Nobel Peace Prize someday!

Oprah was fantastic in “The Color Purple.” She will likely never be nominated for an Oscar again bcz she is a female POC who is incredibly brilliant, insightful...and unbelievably RICH. The white boys who control Hollywood will never forgive her for the latter.Screw ‘em.
@@shimmeringfairydust3275 but not only for actresses, for the actors also; I thought Danny Glover should have been nominated that year for the Oscars, it was a very tough competition in 1985, and Oprah was one year away from a more established person, so it was very how Oprah got that role and she could have won the Oscar that year, but how would have affect her attitude even before her talk show had started

One thing I can say about Oprah is she's a HUGE giver...she really gives back whereas some celebrities pretend to give back for show and really do nothing for the world community Oprah actually tries to help ppl all over the world.

I've just read Oprah spent 90 million on her new home. I appreciate that this lady started with nothing and I admire her drive and hard work and hand on heart believe that this hard work and dilligense entiltles her to her life of luxury. Yet 90 million on a house when there is so much hunger, disease and iliteracy in our world. It's kind of repulsive. I mean live your best life but you can't take it with you.... The quote "it is easier for a camel get through the eye of a needle...than a rich man get through the gates of Heaven". There is no judgement just disbelief does any individual need a 90 million dollar house whilst children in your own country go to school hungry or shoeless. Does any individual need 3.1 Billion dollars whilst about 150 children in 3rd World countries have died whilst I've written this message. Oprah does alot!!! There is so much more she can do. It could be ignorant, from the producer of the video. But I am South African, I am black, very much aware of our black people tribes and dress codes, as well as our townships outlook. I am also aware of the other tribes in other African countries. So, the producer must their research, and use the correct pictures/videos when trying to communicate their message. But in this video I can surely tell the video is not a correct representation of South Africa, especially on the time I referred to in my initial post.

This is a person just like my mother I look up to as well as many other strong powerful minded women, who stands for something other than their name. Other than the obvious (paying off debt, blah, blah, blah.....for my mom and I)......my biggest dream is to put someone through college. Whatever they chose to major in is up to them, but I would foot the ENTIRE bill. I would pay for undergrad, graduate and masters/Ph.D., medical school, law school, be an artist, dancer, musician......whatever career they chose I would fund and support. Even extra curricular activities (sports, Greek life, homecoming, etc). They must pay me back by inviting me to watch their graduation, I want a duplicate of all their degrees so that I can frame them and most importantly, pay it forward. Doesn’t have to be monetary. Volunteering, tutoring youth, being a mentor to someone (young or old), help someone (however they can) without being asked to do so and live transparently....that’s it.
I feel so poor right now ;-;
