I have an adopted French Bulldog. Got him at 2& 1/2 years old as a stray. He is very loving and lovable. Loves his walks and his food - mostly tuna, sardines & mackerel, not so fussed about meats or poultry. Very stubborn, totally people-oriented (don't like other dogs), very clingy. Fortunately Louie doesn't fart much at all, loves having a bath, sleeps a lot. His breathing is fine but they are prone to health issues. They are people-social and don't take well to being alone.
Such a great vid for newbies. I've had brachycephalic breeds for years. I only walk mine outside if it's 70° or colder. Because the soft palet swells to smaller than a dime, in the heat. They will snort, backwards breath, so just rub the throat and tell them it's ok. Try to get ice water in. Wet the body and face if overheating. I carry ice water @70°. They also need warm cloths when it's cold. If the ears are warm & dog is panting, take the shirt off them. They do well with indoor litter boxes. Right out of the gate I've had any needed surgeries for breathing issues put into a cost package while they get fixed. So ask ur vet about widening the nostrils (nares) and soft palet widening (only if it's really needed, obviously). But it will help them for life and your vet will guide you. They are expensive to keep. I always hand cook 3/4 of the diet now too, w a hand select kibble (vet diets online). If making your own you need 2 proteins (like beef & egg) then add peeled shedded uncooked carrots, cooked peas, minced apples). If the dog farts and sloppy poo, change up the protein and ingredients. So go to chicken instead of beef. (I learned from a mini-bulldog I had that she'd been allergic to chicken for 15yrs!) When I started cooking the food all those symptoms vanished, even brown eye discharge. (Also helped itchy patches, ear infections, mush poo, farting). So I hope my ignorance w my dog helps even 1 person. Loved this vid bc most ppl don't understand how much more investment goes into keeping this breed happy. 😊
I’ve just rescued a miniature Frenchie and boy he’s opposite to the lazy traits, he loves his country walks, doesn’t like clothes, he has raw diet and lives with Saint x mastiffs and we adore the little guy he’s so much fun. He’s tough little guy. He hangs with the giant breeds and is cool when we go out. He’s our smallest rescue but he comes with big personality and adores playing with the pack and very sweet dog. Successful rescue and settled wonderful, he doesn’t have bad wind on raw diet. Feed them crap and you’ll be smelling what you feed them. Lol 😂 He can lick his own bum too. Funny to listen to all the traits. My Frenchie (Gizmo) will be 15 years old this month! She never passes gas and her snorting, snoring and breathing issues are very minimal. I must have gotten lucky. In many ways, she still acts like a puppy and doing very good for 15. I make sure to feed her high quality dog food along with 2 pumps of Alaskan Salmon Oil in her food. I think the Salmon Oil has been a key factor to her still doing well at age 15. The two main health issues I have faced with her are her hips and ear infections. My #1 advice is to NOT let your Frenchie run up and down stairs or even jump onto your couch. They are prone to having hip issues and it will help them in the long run when they get older. I carry Gizmo up and down any stairs and don't let her jump onto things. The ear infections are controllable by consistently wiping and cleaning her ears and checking them on a regular basis.
We have had our pup for almost a month now. We're going to do our best to prevent him from going up and down stairs, and jumping off the couch. It's definitely going to be a big effort!

I'd say the big caution in getting a Frenchie is that you will be so very tempted to get a second!! I've heard them called "Pringles" dogs because no one can just have one. My dog is not a big eater, and not super motivated by food. Her weakness is fruit. She loves fruit. So, after checking to make sure which are ok for dogs to eat, I used small bits of fruit to train her to do her simple commands. Yes. Frenchies can have a lot of health issues and you MUST sign up for health insurance before you even bring the dog home. A good breeder will not sell you one of their dogs at the drop of a hat. Good breeders will make you apply, interview you, and you will wait and wait. But it's worth it.

It’s sad that we as humans are bringing these dogs into this world that have a potential to suffer, just because we’ve bred them to have certain traits. Every dog that is brought into this world should have the fundamental right to breath properly, not have their brain ooze out of their head, not have their long back break, be able to give natural birth, etc. The list goes on. There are plenty of breeds that don’t have these issues. The truth hurts 💔 We can fix this.
Thank you for putting out this video. My Frenchie is the best dog I’ve ever had and I love him to death. But, this breed does take a lot of work, and money and care to keep them healthy. Now that Frenchies are seen as the “it” dog, it’s important for prospective owners to know what it takes to have one in your family. There’s nothing worse than someone getting one and not giving them the care they deserve. Go in with your eyes open. If you’re up to the task, you’ll be rewarded with the best little guy/girl ever.
Thank you, Connor & Murphy McManus Tracy. Only 2 in the litter, first litter. I'm retired & yes they throw a fit if I'm out of their line of site. I'm with them 24 hrs a day. HAD surgery gone 6 7 hrs. Went to town to doctor gone 3 hrs maybe. Longest I've ever been away from them. Otherwise they go with me my 9 yr old Chihuahua and I are mama and we love them dearly and they listen to her it's funny. They were smaller when I got them and now there 3 times the size but it's all the murder love yes gassy that's OK it's OKI raised many children my grandchildren other people's children. If I can do that and all the diapers and everything else yes the baby wipes course they have clothes and jammies and I live up North so I watched them very closely I live in a resort town and yet they're the boss they're my babies they're just what Michael wouldn't I and I needed and my bird I have a 20 year old African grandma has her own managery and I love it . Only problem is to bring my 3 dogs and bird to go and visit someone overnight so I have chose to be with my babies, fur & feather instead of daughter & granddaughter.
If your friendship is stinky change his diet my friend she eats everything from salmon to beef to lamb and it's usually fresh killed so whatever I eat he eats on seasoned I've had him on carnival now for the last 3 years and he does great
According to their poo and farting, it depends on, What you are feeding Them. Both my daughter and I have a frenchie, and they are both feed dry food. They fart a bit, but it doesn’t smell. And no wiping butts 👍😃
Excellent advice! ALL TRUE! We have a frug! So cute, but very high maintenance! Ours likes to go out and lay in the sunshine! This breed can't regulate their temp, so can overheat quite quickly. They get the zoomies and race around for 5-6 minutes, but they mostly sleep. Our Augie likes to sleep with some kind physical connection to one of us. Always up for snuggles!
wife passed away 7/31/2017 in 2016 Aug her miniature b/w poodle LittleBit she was a female & her kennelmate was a female Italian GreyHound (both born around July 4 2001) her name after 2 days was PinHead..well; she acted like a "PinHead" goofy. Looking at vids of the breeds i am txting about i have decided besides IGs French Bulldogs arrived with IGs from outer space. the b/w poodle died (14) a ye before Karen passed away & PinHead as 17 in March 2018
I love this! Yes, for the longest time we didn't have much problem with his shedding but it does fluctuate. Diet and environment play such a huge role! Where are you located?
@@helloitskimmie my aunt's boston terrier won't eat kibble anymore so she wants to put him on a raw diet , could you please tell me what everything is you cut up and put in the bowl.
This is true, so many of their 'health issues' are diet related. If you feed them a high quality, grain free, ideally raw diet, and keep them at a healthy weight, then most of these problems will be eliminated.
I’m glad you’re warning people but really the best thing is not to encourage the breeding of these dogs. Even the ones that are taken care of have trouble just breathing. All the time. It’s a really sad life for them. The breed requirements must change out for kindness for these animals.
Our Frenchie has nasty farts 😂 and as soon as he is done pooping he assumes the position for us to wipe his butt 😂 shedding yes ! We can relate to everything.
I'm excited to hear what you decided to do? It's never to late to get one in the near by future if you can't get one now. Unless you went ahead and got one ;)
@@katelynsillysquirrel3223 Hey girl! Of course, for Groot's meals, we do a rotation each week. As for this video, I believe I prepped for him some pork, beef liver, pumpkin puree (whole foods), mussel powder, and bone meal (for calcium). This is his first meal of the day. This diet does require a bit of attention and time. Including the time to freeze (1-3 weeks) everything before feeding. If this helps, we have been putting Groot on Primal Pronto! It has all the proper nutrients and has been so easy. We just leave it out to thaw for a tad bit. But if you need more info with prepping for raw feel free to let me know :)
I have a very small 16lb, 7 yr old Frenchie & I couldn’t love her more. You are accurate re requiring special care/maintenance. Along with her tiny size my Frenchie came with allot of medical issues/procedures/surgeries but for 4 yrs now she is in perfect condition. No gas present as I cook for her using “Just Food For Dogs” beef recipe. As you said they must be wiped clean as they have thick bodies & cannot reach that area to clean themselves. I use 7th generation baby wipes ev time she poops & she gets wiped down ev night b/f bed. I can tell you the effort is well worth the reward as they are very funny little creatures & so loving. I could buy a fancy sports car for the amount of money I have into her but I choose her ev time. Ps insurance for Frenchies is high & they don’t cover allergies which is a big issue. Most Frenchies are on Apoquel for itch at $2 a pill but since I started “Just Food For Dogs” incl their allergy suppl she no longer needs it. Frenchs’s are the best!
How did you know you needed the surgery? Was it recommended by your vet? What was the cost of that and what did the recovery process look like? I question whether mine needs ones. He's 1.5years old now. Thank you!
@LD Nguyen we knew Groot would need it eventually but didn't do it until our vet recommended it. If you can, get insurance for your pet first before going through with it because it will cost a bunch. Hope this helps!
If theyre really loud snorers and they get overheated and pant a lot when theyre on walks or playing. The vet told us we should get it for our dog because he had small nostrils and a long pallet. His lifestyle improved instantly after the surgery.
I've had many dog's in my family but my frenchie is like no other breed, she likes to stand on her back legs a lot and she farts like there's no tomorrow.
My family’s first Frenchie had to be put down due to her becoming partially paralyzed, she no longer had control over her back end:/ with how proud she was it was embarrassing for her and she was in a lot of pain. She was on the bigger side and with stairs, the weight and steep stairs was probably the cause :/
We have been dog sitting a lot of different frenchies and have found a lot of differences between the breeding and genetics of the dogs, personality wise they are pretty similar. Coat, nose, body, mouth and tail are very often so different I wouldn’t call them the same breed!
Someone please help. We have rehomed a 6 month old Frenchie and he’s absolutely gorgeous apart from the fact that he refuses to pee or poo while out on a lead. His last home had a secure garden which he could go out and do his business without one on, but round here we don’t have that luxury as our garden is not secured and shared. We are taking him out extremely regularly and still nothing. He’s had one accident because he got over excited and one wee in my Mum’s secure garden when we visited her yesterday (picked him up at about 12pm) Don’t know what to do apart from what we are doing which is just going outside often and waiting a while. I just don’t want him getting ill because he’s holding everything! 😔
Perhaps you could try an open cat litter tray with natural earth and some garden earth added in the house and then if he uses it take some of what he does in the tray and put it in the street when you are walking. He may be frightened of going in the open street or think it is not allowed? Good luck. 😢🙏💜🙏
@@tumbleweeduk7479 It’s okay we’ve cracked it! We just kept going and he now goes on the lead in the garden perfectly 🙌🏻 Now it’s just seeing whether he’ll go to the loo while on walks but I’m not worried as long as he’s going somewhere x
if you don't want them to pass gas all the time, then you need to give them the correct food diet. processed dog food even the high end ones will cause them to pass lots of gas. to minimize gas make their food yourself, rice, pumpkin, chicken, ground beef, carrots, beef liver, brocolli etc
Fam and I are about adopt one that really looks like yours. What particular color is your frenchie? I just wanna know how to describe what color my frenchie will be, in case someone asks. Thanks in advance!
I had my frenchie Imported from a reputable breeder from Ukraine. Paid only $1400.00 including airfare. Never had an issue with my dog except with food intolerance. Hungary is another country to get affordable frenchies from. The AKC likes to tell people fake stories about puppy mills from overseas so that people pay exuberant prices for their pets in the US the reason is the average monthly wage in UKR is only $200 which is why the dogs are much cheaper. The average Ukrainian would have to work for 5 months to be able to buy a frenchie. The US military and numerous police departments trough out the US have Ukrainian dogs in service. Don't be stupid and pay 10k for a French bulldog in the US.
A buddy of mine had one and she broke its spine jumping off his bed. He had to take her out behind his house and put her down and buried her. He told his kids she ran away. They are looking for labs. He said French bulldogs are a pain in the ass
I lived with a Frenchie. But I set boundary. The little guy can' go in my bed room. He can roam around the house. I enjoy feeding him crunchie snacks because every time he munched he makes a loud crunchy sound! It amuses me to no end! He's very quiet and rarely asked for attention because I don' like giving him that kind of affection. When he sees me, he start licking his chops cuz he knows snacks are coming. He kinda smell a little bit. LOL He's my lil piglet! I like him!
My Frenchie (Maeby) has changed my life. She makes me happy but, OMG her farts stink. She is the same color as yours, but her is longer and she is as soft as a plush toy.
The gassy problem is related to diet. If you feed a species appropriate diet, then there wont be any more gas than any other dog. That means no grain, low carb, no dairy, ideally a raw diet. My Frenchie is on a mostly raw, absolutely no grain diet and he only gets gas when he eats something he's not supposed to have.
Basically it's a dog that cannot act like a happy, healthy dog because all of their horrible bodily defects. If they were in normal canine bodies, heat and the outdoors and athletic play would be no issue. And people pay THOUSANDS for the puppies and thousands more later at the vet. Ya! Great deal (eyeroll).
More maintenance, less common equal more expensive. Same reason a Ferrari or Lamborghini is expensive and it's rarely ever a great value. They're obviously very cute to us humans but those traits have come at the cost of the breed's health. But if you have this empathy towards dog (and that is a good thing), do you have the same thing towards the chickens, pigs and cows we use and slaughter for food? At least the people paying thousands for frenchies will also be paying paying thousands to maintain their health. But sure, there might be a moral case on getting rid of this breed altogether.
@@felixchien1664 I can say I have way more empthay for food animals than most. Anyone who thinks they "got me" on that argument is going to be awfully surprised. Been deep diving that area since I was a teen in the 80s.
@@Janeway1269 trust me, I wasn't trying to "got you" in an argument. I just get irked by hypocrisy and want people to check if they consistently apply their moral judgements and beliefs fairly. That's why I ask that as a question; I wasn't accusing you of being guilty of that (though I get it may appear implied). In your case, that portion of my comment doesn't apply to you. My main point is that your comment is not logically arguing for anything. It's only re-stating what's obviously the case. Dogs (and myriad other animals) are bred for human purposes. There isn't really a "normal canine"; all dog breeds were bred for a specific purpose. Similar to all other domesticated animals which are used by humans for their utility and/or consumption. In the case of Frenchies, it's for their cuteness (which is to no surprise they look similar to human babies). Because such features give rise to health conditions, Frenchies are an expensive breed. People are paying thousands of dollars not for a "good deal and healthy genetic" dog...they are paying for a uniquely cute dog. But I'm not denying there is a moral case that this breed should cease which sounds like what you'd advocate
Haha after mentioning so many drawbacks, why would anyone wants to have them just because they have cute (deformed) face? lol Best way to have have Designed Dog is not to have a Designer Dog.
I don't understand why people make videos like this, in my opinion it would be best to ask an expert about your pet's health, I have also watched similar videos, and even this one a couple of times, and nowhere is aspiration pneumonia mentioned, which is very fatal for dogs, especially for french buldogs, My dog (FRENCH BULDOG 5MONTHS) died 2weeks ago from aspiration pneumonia. It is pathetic that this aspiration pneumonia is not mentioned anywhere and that it is fatal for small dogs like mine. The vets said that during the vomiting he inhaled harmful gases from the stomach and that these gases entered the lungs, which collapsed (failed) and within 3 days, our dog died and there was no way to save him, and all because of the vomiting and those stupid gases from the stomach. It's a shame that it's not written more on the internet about this, because I couldn't believe that a dog could die from vomiting. Our family is inconsolable because we lost a friend and a family member and all because we didn't know.. because we weren't informed and ready for it. So it would be best to consult a veterinarian and not look for help on amateur videos on UA-cam or Google..
To neutralise the smelly farts give them only Charcoal treats! Nothing else and tell other people asking if they can give them silly nonsense dogs food most definitely NOT to. Small dogs don't have the digestive makeup of most dogs let alone people. I only feed mine dried Kibble and Charcoal treats and his farts smell way less potent than most people's now! 🎉

Thank you!! They are definitely worth it.. I have a frenchie and just love her❤❤❤❤❤ super funny and adorable 😃😃😃
Awesome video, may i ask how didnyou manage to do maintenance when being a puppy and everything is biting and playing
Health isuue IVDD is a huge concern with Frenchies that you did not mention
I haven't come across this. Thank you for pointing it out!
Your frenchie will shed depending on its diet
My frenchie hardly sheds and has an amazingly soft coat!
I love this! Yes, for the longest time we didn't have much problem with his shedding but it does fluctuate. Diet and environment play such a huge role! Where are you located?
@@helloitskimmie I’m located in the bay area! If you have anymore questions dm me on my frenchies instgram @mowgli_frenchie
Mine has a longer snout because her bloodline came from Europe. Extreme short is not normal due to bad breeding.
Awesome videos, new subscriber 👍
I Love and own big dogs but just picked up a french bulldog last night Love it so funny
My frenchy nearly.2 yrs old nobody.told him he was an indoor dog. He goes out 3 times a day walking and would stay out all day if I let him .
Where did you get your dog from
very helpful video, thank you!
True
very good video kim... won my subscription lol
Our Frenchie has nasty farts 😂 and as soon as he is done pooping he assumes the position for us to wipe his butt 😂 shedding yes ! We can relate to everything.
lol i love this!
Love your video. I have a pug and a frenchie and I couldn’t agree more! Greetings from Austria
I really want a French bulldog but this video really helped me!
of course! They are stinkin' cute tho
I'm excited to hear what you decided to do? It's never to late to get one in the near by future if you can't get one now. Unless you went ahead and got one ;)
@@helloitskimmie what kids of meat are you cutting up?
@@helloitskimmie thank you kim soooo much for all this info
Have my bulldog sleeping here right next to me in bed... And yeah... The gas is constant... And VERY stinky indeed!! :-D
Oh man, dog toots are the worst! 😷🤢 Gotta be that dog food digesting!
I agree with all the things you said. It's a fantastic and adorable dog ❤
Very helpful
Thanks for the information and videos. What kind of face cream do you use for There wrinkles thanks.
You're very welcome! We use the Squishface Wrinkle Paste from amazon. Hope this helps :)
@@helloitskimmie Groot I love it my little guy is drax I bet they would be good friends lol
@@jennayoutube1 Right?! I'm truly glad to hear your little boy is doing well
Since we switched our frenchies food to science diet sensitive stomach ours haven’t had farting issues anymore
I need to know have you ever had to deal with paw licking and/or interdigital cysts ?
if I recall, it was mainly paw licking. Especially during summer time. What happen?!
I've had many dog's in my family but my frenchie is like no other breed, she likes to stand on her back legs a lot and she farts like there's no tomorrow.
I enjoyed your teachings...want and need more
gorgeous, the dog is cute too
Thank you @carlitox b
very accurate 👌
We just kept going and he now goes on the lead in the garden perfectly 🙌🏻 Now it’s just seeing whether he’ll go to the loo while on walks but I’m not worried as long as he’s going somewhere x
so accurate!!!!
if you don't want them to pass gas all the time, then you need to give them the correct food diet. processed dog food even the high end ones will cause them to pass lots of gas. to minimize gas make their food yourself, rice, pumpkin, chicken, ground beef, carrots, beef liver, brocolli etc
Thank you 😊
Sounds like you’re explaining my pugs
Love this dog had two, but the big down side is their super poor health, being ranked among the worst.
so truee! we always let them get away with their darn cuteness! i mean who can say no right?
@@helloitskimmie 1000 percent.
Fam and I are about adopt one that really looks like yours. What particular color is your frenchie? I just wanna know how to describe what color my frenchie will be, in case someone asks. Thanks in advance!
That's exciting news! We describe Groot as a fawn color Frenchie :)
What insurance company do you use?
We had Trupanion and they are really good!
Best dogs ever.
However take a dog insurance, it is well worth the cost.
Whatever you should do that for the surgery and after surgery why was the after surgery one of his eyes are red
❤
this breed is for ppl who don't have kids or don't plan to have baby forever. From ur video, I can see it's even require more care than baby
Also my frenchton doesn’t let me pet my Bostie I have to put him in another room. He’s very possessive of me and my child.
Does your breeder have an instagram?

When we leave the house he cry’s so loud the neighbors all now when we’re not home
Mine only eats raw beef, or some cooked beef liver a couple times a week….no gas, or at least nothing noticeable or stinky
I’ve never seen a low energy Frenchie
LOL Same!!!
🙌
Oh I've got to get one now.
Thanks for the information. Our frenchie tend to eat his poo ! Is it a common thing?
May be he is eating less food
Awwwh that snort snort
Awww It`s because he can`t breathe !!!!!
my god.......I've wanted a frenchie, but everything I hear about them is NEGATIVE. I'll stay with my corgis.
A buddy of mine had one and she broke its spine jumping off his bed. He had to take her out behind his house and put her down and buried her. He told his kids she ran away. They are looking for labs. He said French bulldogs are a pain in the ass
Sounds like he is a pain in the arse, poor kids! Hope he never gets another dog. Namaste
I like him!
LOL! so cute, the way you describe your relationship with him.
100%. You forgot to mention how they whine
My Frenchie is skinny and doesn’t have rolls
Low energy? Not mine :)
Chị là người Việt Nam ạ?
Yes!
I want a French bulldog and the are so cute!
My Frenchie (Maeby) has changed my life. She makes me happy but, OMG her farts stink. She is the same color as yours, but her is longer and she is as soft as a plush toy.
I’m just paying attention cause she is a gorgeous gal… I’m in love
Your frenchie look like mine ❤
The gassy problem is related to diet. If you feed a species appropriate diet, then there wont be any more gas than any other dog. That means no grain, low carb, no dairy, ideally a raw diet. My Frenchie is on a mostly raw, absolutely no grain diet and he only gets gas when he eats something he's not supposed to have.
Too much damn work
Basically it's a dog that cannot act like a happy, healthy dog because all of their horrible bodily defects. If they were in normal canine bodies, heat and the outdoors and athletic play would be no issue. And people pay THOUSANDS for the puppies and thousands more later at the vet. Ya! Great deal (eyeroll).
😁
❤ I got a French bulldog , just 10 months old ♥️
Haha after mentioning so many drawbacks, why would anyone wants to have them just because they have cute (deformed) face? lol
Best way to have have Designed Dog is not to have a Designer Dog.
Jeeeeeeez quite breeding these dogs. It sounds so painful just to breathe. That’s not cute, it’s sad.
Low energy????????? Not a chance.
If anyone wants to buy Frenchie reach out, my brother owns a Kennel and is a breeder.
I have been looking for a breeder for a couple years now. Where is your brother located. Can you please drop is contact number and email? Thx
Maybe it's a good idea for a dog owner not to be quite as paranoid as this admittedly very caring lady. All the best to caring dog owners.
they won't have gas if you make them homemade dog food.
So-so cute. So glad I researched. Not for me :( love the personality, the snoring and don’t mind the farts, but I can’t afford the health issues.
