I remember this as a kid of about 7. I never realized how much this would appeal to adults because of the humors. The "stay at home moms" must have loved watching this with their kids. There were several other kids' shows back then.

When I was a kid about 5 or 6 yrs old this was my favorite show. But it was in the mid 60's so they had the Beanie and Cecil cartoons then. I remember we lived on Venice Beach in CA and I used to walk all over the beach and there was a big Sheep Dog that adopted me and I named him Beany Boy lol. Great memories. 💗

I loved this as a kid. Especially Cecil the Seasick Sea Monster. There's so much adult humor in this, they really made an effort to make this fun for kids and adults. Just like the Flintstones and a few others like Bugs. I use to run around the house making that laugh that Dishonest John made. I was four when most of the cartoons were new. Thank you so much for uploading this. I came across this by accident.

Sorry for the correction, but Cecil's description was meant to be a bit of a slight play on words for kids. It was Cecil the SeaSick Sea Serpent. All "S" sounds.

Darn, no Stan Freburg in this... but still more entertaining than most shows!

At least you get Walker Edmiston, aka Enik the Altrusian from "Land of the Lost"...
(That Freberg was a talker though, let me tell ya! I got him on the phone once, just needing a one-line quote to help promote his America Vol. 2 album -- an hour later his wife came on the line chiding "Stan, let the poor man get back to his work! He said he only wanted a quick sentence!")

Watched the cartoon, but never this series. I'd love to see this as a live action movie.

So does this mean that the Beany & Cecil cartoon was the first reboot of a franchise?

If you mean, did the puppet show come first? yes. I don't know if they had it in mind to do the cartoon while they were doing the puppet show, though. As I remember, Howdy Doody was a kids entertainment venue with kids in the audience, after came a howdy doody carteon but I don't remember that they made many of those. HD was in my older sister's time.

I would think that the live-action "Adventures of Superman" series from 1952 was the first, as it rebooted the 1941-1943 cartoons.

This got away with SO much, mostly because everyone adlibbed, including the narrator. The animated series wasn't nearly as brave....

Why does almost every children's show from the middle of the last century seem like it was created by a serial kiIIer? No really, this, for example, has nothing to envy of Begotten.
