    I love this camera! Thanks for the video. By the way, regarding the A button, there is a setting in the menu (called A Button Switch on page 3/7 under operation) that allows you to set it to “press and hold” which makes it much harder to accidentally enable Auto mode.

    The entire video, I was thinking that I got a dud D-Lux 7 because my menu was very different from the one shown. I couldn't set my aperture, shutter speed, or anything. It's as if those controls were only there for aesthetic purposes. Finally, at the end, you mentioned the A button. After I pressed that button, I had a whole new camera! All of my dials now work and my menu reflects yours from the video! Now it's time to have some fun. Thank you!

    This was really helpful thanks. I was looking for a compact travel camera where I could either 'point and shoot' or let my creative juices flow. I ended up deciding the Lumix LX100 II was the camera for me, however there are none to be found, anywhere. The D-Lux 7 looked almost exactly the same but one awful lot more expensive, the only real difference I could see is that 'Leica' logo on the front, and I imagined myself discreetly doing street photography (with hopefully nobody noticing) though at the same time ensuring that everybody sees that I have an expensive camera! In the end, I think that I'll get the D-Lux 7, nothing else does it for me. Even the black version, everybody seems to have is out of stock, though I come to like silver version after seeing your video. Many thanks for an informative and useful video.

    Great video. I bought one of these two years ago to have something that has a nice look and feel which is also much more compact than my full frame DSLR. I wound up using the camera almost exclusively as I find the images on average better than those coming from my full frame camera. Also... I love the little external flash that comes with the camera as it conveniently uses power from the battery and comes in handy when just a little bit of extra light on the subject in day shots is helpful. I wish Leica would make the same exact camera but with a full frame sensor which is to say a fixed lens with the same zoom.

    The camera is amazing, I also shoot full frame digital and 35mm and medium format film photography. With the cost of 35mm color film going through the roof, I have been using the camera to do a lot of color street photography. This camera gives me great 8x10 prints. The Leica lens is superb, the colors are more real looking. While the Fuji X100 is a great camera, I sold it since I’m just not into then very vivid Fuji colors.

    This is a great little camera! I have 7 cameras of various types and brands. I found this one especially good as the lens opens to a nice wide 1.7 mm!! That’s extraordinary! My Sony A7iii can’t go that wide as I need to pay a great deal money for a wide lens. I can get great blurry backgrounds with the DLux7! I don’t have time to tweak pictures so I am using JPEG at the moment. I will explore RAW very soon. I took 2000 or more pictures during my around the world trip with a Sony RX100 mark 6 so I have no time to tweak them. Some maybe...
    However, this like camera is a GEM!!! I am really impressed! I take photos of my pet birds so I need a fast shutter speed, and I use shutter priority often. The birds decide to move as soon as I press the shutter!!

      @@LeicaCameraAustralia indeed I fully agree. I will start to use it and do editing as I find after transferring images I often need to edit anyway. However, with my Sony A7iii ( I collect many cameras) I found the jpegs really good and the RAW files were dark and they all needed tweaking. I just didn’t have the time to edit 2000 photos from my around the world trip. I wish RAW files would come out better without editing

    Hi, thank you for this great video. I am almost sold to the D-Lux 7, but one thing is keeping me from buying it right away, it’s that many people say they easily get lots of dust on the inside lens which affects shots quality. What do you think of it?

    • @LeicaCameraAustralia
      @LeicaCameraAustralia  2 роки тому +1

      Dust inside the lens rarely affects image quality unless it's really bad. Having said that, I do not know of any problems with internal dust, I certainly had had no trouble with mine. The D-Lux 7 should no better or worse than any other camera of a similar design in this regard.

    Hi Nick
    Thank you for an informative and detailed video on the Leica D Lux 7 delivered at exactly the right pace for the viewer/listener to digest(I often wonder if American reviewers are in a race to finish)
    I am hoping to buy the D Lux 7 for my birthday next month but being of Yorkshire heritage I am reluctant to pay the extra, over the Panasonic LX 100 Mk II, when in performance they seem identical. However, I have noticed that the D Lux 7 is slightly larger and heavier and two professional reviewers thought the colour results were slightly better which they attributed to the sensor. Is there any basis or facts for this - or is it wishful thinking?

    • @LeicaCameraAustralia
      @LeicaCameraAustralia  2 роки тому

      The weights are almost identical, as is the size. The difference in colour of the Jpegs is partially due to a different colour aesthetic between Japan and Europe, and partially due to Leica's superior colour science.

    • @LeicaCameraAustralia
      @LeicaCameraAustralia  3 роки тому

      That's a tricky one. You do need to have a monitor that is properly calibrated and profiled. Try viewing images on an iPad - do they then look like the screen on the back of the camera?

  • @Ricardo-SW
    @Ricardo-SW 4 роки тому +2

    As the sensor is 4;3 ratio, wouldn't that Aspect Ratio give the maximum pixels (vs 3:2)? I'd think 3:2 would be cropped from the 4:3 native-?

    • @LeicaCameraAustralia
      @LeicaCameraAustralia  4 роки тому +3

      Hi Ricardo. Good question. At 3:2 you get a 16MB (4928x3288px) capture, at 4:3 you get 17MP (4736x3552px). According to the published specifications it's a 21.77MP sensor so both settings are crops. You are right that 4:3 captures more pixels but what I meant to say, and I admit I was not especially clear, is that you get more pixels across the frame which I consider more useful. 4:3 is an unusual shape, 3:2 fits a more pleasing ratio, IMO anyway.

      According to the Manual, the camera works with SDHC up to 32GB and SDXC cards up to 128GB. I do not know if bigger cards can be used. 128GB will hold about 6400 raw images, not sure why a bigger card would be of much benefit!

      @@LeicaCameraAustralia Because I have a spare 512GB SD card. And I made an appointment on the 12th to buy the Dlux7 007 version, it seems that I have to buy another 128GB SD card.

      @@LeicaCameraAustralia I've been using dlux7 for two weeks now.And I love it. The only disadvantage is shooting night scenes, which is really different from full-frame cameras. But as a camera for recording children's growth, it is small and convenient. Of course, I don't need to use such a large capacity memory card, just because my working camera has been replaced with a CFA memory card, and there is just a 512GB card left unused. By the way, I tested the SanDisk 512GB SD card to work with the Dlux7.

      Hi Steven. Use the 1+ setting on the shutter speed dial and you can choose any shutter speed up to 60 seconds by using the rear dial around the menu button.

    Hi Nick, thank you for the tutorial! Question about chromatic aberration: I saw your picture of the cathedral, even though the edges have high contrast, it’s beautiful and without any fringing; I took a similar picture of trees with bright cloudy background, but it had lots of purple fringing, what tricks did you use to avoid it? Or did you fix it later in Lightroom? Thank you!

    • @LeicaCameraAustralia
      @LeicaCameraAustralia  3 роки тому +1

      No tricks. There is simply no colour fringing in the image. I just looked up the original raw file and it shows zero fringing. I was mildly surprised actually, but no, nothing to fix. It was shot at f4 and ISO100.

    Hello, one problem I have with the DLux-7 is that I can't make the bluetooth connection work! I've installed Leica Fotos in my mobile phone, the camera is paired, and.... that's it! I can't download any photos. Coud it be that I'm shooting in Raw? I don't know but it's terribly frustrating and I've written to Leica in London - if I can sort this in a few days I'll return the camera - which is a shame because everything else is brilliant. No reply so far.... Perhaps you could suggest a troubleshooting video for problems with Leica Fotos?
    Thanks!

      Hard to troubleshoot at a distance. I don't have a D-Lux to hand right now but I will do soon. I'll check the connectivity then. In the meantime, try setting the camera to RAW+JPG or JPG only and see if you can get at the Jpegs.

    Have you tried using the Leica remote app to do a long exposure? My experience is that the three key features you’d want to manually control like ISO, F and Shutter Speed have been disabled from the app. Also, there is no remote release button compatible with this camera. These were quite disappointing to discover.

    • @LeicaCameraAustralia
      @LeicaCameraAustralia  2 роки тому

      For long exposures you can use the self timer. I do this with all my cameras, easier than a remote unless you need to time the shot.

    Hello, new sub here! I’m planning to get this model, but i have some questions. How does it compare to the latest iphone13 pro max cameras quality? And is it good enough for me to print such as a3 printing size?

    • @LeicaCameraAustralia
      @LeicaCameraAustralia  2 роки тому +2

      Hard to compare directly, but one thing that is much better on the D-Lux is the ability to use the camera in manual mode much more effectively. Yes, you can get photo apps on the phone but, IMO, nothing beats the analogue control of a dedicated camera. You will also find you can use genuine, optical limited depth of field with the D-Lux. This is something you cannot do on the iPhone without using the portrait mode which can work surprisingly well, but, being essentially a 'mask', can also lead to severe artifacting.

    Thank you very much for your explanation of this little but powerful camera. I just got mine because watched your videos. I am new to the Leica camera. So I can't find technique support online or on phone. As I follow your instruction on how to set up the camera, there are quite a few differences on my camera. The panorama settings are can't be set. I can't find a place to set my focus point. In your video, you talk about using QM, but my QM is not showing the focus choice. I have reset the camera so I can follow your instructions, no matter choose shooting at raw or JPG. If you could give me some ideas on how to fix that, it will be greatly appreciated
