Still shocked hearing Harry's death. It's been 2 years. I hope Harry is sleeping peacefully in heaven. God bless that guy. I am 16 now and I started watching "Night Court" when I was 13 in 2017. This show is awesome! My top #1 TV sitcom!
Early Michael Richards is fascinating. He's on an early episode of Cheers, but he actually plays a dramatic character who is a bookie that threatens to kill Sam unless he pays he debt he owes him. He's really good at being menacing, too!
His character was not a bookie. He was a barfly who made a bet with Sam that he couldn't marry Jacquelin Bisset and when Sam wins, he offers to settle for a share of Cheers or cash or finally, a drink garnish.
I've seen it in its entirety. That part about finally, that's pretty much the last scene of the episode. Eddie Gordon is the character Richards plays. The drink garnish I mentioned is an olive.
He wasn’t a bookie on cheers. Sam had made a bet he would marry Jacqueline Bissett. Wrote it down on a cocktail napkin. The crew went through phone books trying to find someone named Jacqueline bissett for Sam to marry. And the role wasn’t dramatic in the least.
Ellen Foley was wonderful in the first season of Night Court. By the way, she was the original Witch in the Sondheim musical "Into the Woods". (When it got to Broadway Bernadette Peters took the role.) But Foley's Witch was extraordinary; I will never forget her performances.
Ellen Foley did sing on the Bat Out of Hell album but did not appear in any of the videos from that album nor did she ever tour with Meatloaf. Bat Out of Hell was released almost a year after it was completed and during that time, Ellen started getting acting work plus secured her own record contract. The dark-haired woman you see in the videos is Karla Devito, lip syncing to Ellen's audio track.
@@swrennie Relationship or not Meat Loaf described them making out enthusiastically during auditions of Paradise By The Dashboard Light. But that was true in other performances of the song like with Aspen Miller in 2007 so I am not sure one can read too much into it.
When I lived in the Netherlands (Billie) Ellen Foley's "We Belong to the Night" was the Number 1 song in the Netherlands. It did well elsewhere like Australia, but I could never figure out why she never got the air time in North America like she did in Europe.
Such a fantastically well written show with a troop of seriously talented actors. The John Laroquette Show ran a close second. But as is the fate of all presentations that don't target a 6th grade and below mentality they were both cancelled well before their expiration dates. I surely miss Harry Anderson and his phenomenal skills at ad-libbing in any scenario. R.I.P. Judge Stone, we hardly knew ye.
I enjoyed the Larroquette show as well, and it’s too bad it wasn’t a bigger hit, but Night Court ran for 9 seasons - most of those years on NBC’s powerhouse thursday lineup. It was an abrupt ending when it happened, but there wasn’t a ton of life left in it, maybe a year or two tops.
it is (Cosmo) Kramer ! he had that one sketch comedy show called "Fridays" (with an episode featuring Andy Kaufman); comedian Rich Hall and actress Melanie Chartoff (Fox Sunday tv high school sitcom, "Parker Lewis Can't Lose," as a principal).
Funny that you mentioned that 4 years ago…there is literally a new Night Court show. But Night Court was pretty racy for its day, and the remake - though it’s not bad - lacks a little edge. Also in the last 4 years since this comment, good clean funny sophisticated comedies have really taken hold: Ted Lasso, Ghosts, Abbott Elementary, and Shrinking are just a few examples.
@@pebblesanddirt I have to admit, Ghosts is the only one of those I have even heard of, much less seen, and I have absolutely no interest in the sex lives of homosexual spirits. Yeah, I saw the first couple of episodes of the new Night Court, it looked pretty good. Unfortunately, since then, I have consistently forgotten to watch it. Oh well, maybe next week.
I think that has to be true, Harry was at least as tall as Dan, and Mac was almost as tall. I heard that casting for Bull was done for someone who could tower over the main cast for comedic purposes, and obviously the choices weren't many! Interesting that Reinhold Weege was also writer and producer for Barney Miller, a show where nearly the entire ensemble was at least 6 ft tall, and the comic relief Ron Carey was shorter than everyone at 5' 4!
He did want to play a Columbo type of character on The Michael Richards Show, but the network pressured the writers to turn him into basically Kramer again.

Ellen Foley, the blonde defense attorney, was the woman who provided the female vocals on Meatloaf's "Paradise By The Dashboard Light".
Also 1/3 of the girls backing on Blue Oyster Cult's song "Mirrors".
I didn’t know this for years. Thanks.

That's right!
Not to be confused with Karla DeVito, who only synced it.
