    I dont have diabetes and no one in my family does either but ive always had issues with my blood sugar. As a kid, if i didnt eat every so often i would feel like i was gonna pass out, nauseous and terrible headaches. Now as an adult, i dont get those feelings as often but when i do they are terrible. My heart starts pumping super hard, dizzy, blacking out etc. Thanks for bringing awareness to blood sugar issues. It makes me want to go get an in depth analysis on whats going on in my body.

    In the hospital we are trained to let the alcohol completely dry and then when we get the blood, we wipe the first drop away to avoid contamination from the alcohol wipe.

    • @kathyjohnson2043
      @kathyjohnson2043 Рік тому

      Yes, I remember the assistant doing that; I also remember the times they couldn't really get a 2nd drop and had to start over, since you aren't supposed to 'milk it ' either. Of course we are also supposed to use a new lance every time! And, to not put our finger in our mouth afterwards. I understand why each of these matter, but that doesn't mean I'm always gonna live that way. 😁

    Regarding the alcohol swab: as a nurse that’s what I have as learned behavior (clean with alcohol first, wipe away a few drops of blood first). However, upon further research, it is recommended that you simply wash your hands with soap and water to remove anything that could be on the skin that could have an abnormally high results. #themoreyouknow

    I was surprised to find out the story about type 2 diabetes and what happened when artificial sweetners were invented. Back then all doctors thought wow this is a game changer for all my diabetic patients. They told every diabetic hey here is a way you can enjoy sweet food and drinks again and you don't have to worry about your blood sugar anymore! After some time they noticed that those type 2 diabetics had a noticeably worse symptoms. Now they found out even though it does not affect the blood sugar our body registers the sweetness from our taste buds and in preparation of the normally incoming sugar releases insulin. The problem is because the body can't use artificial sweeteners and there is no actual sugar incoming the insulin is just useless floating in the body sometimes causing a drop in the blood sugar levels. Studies now show that people with type 2 diabetes that consumed artificial sweeteners had a much worse insulin resistance than patients that were in the control group that didn't consume the sweeteners. Back then the doctors had to backstep on what they told thier patients after they found out that many people had worse insulin resistance than before. It's something that is pretty well known here in Germany were I live.

    From a scientific study performed by the university of New Hampshire, the prep pads were shown to give a lower reading on average, however it was not enough of a difference to affect patient care. The thought behind alcohol giving false readings comes from those mixing up isopropyl alcohol, which has no sugar/glucose, to food alcohol which is made from fermented sugar

    I'm realizing that being a diabetic in the US or Canada must be so difficult. When I think of white rice, bagels or toast (I'm guessing it's wheat toast), I normally just think "Oh I'm going to be eating basically a handful of pure sugar". Carbs from rye bread, rye toast brown rice and beans makes the blood sugar so much easier to manage, but most North Americans (and Southern Europeans) are probably not used to that sort of diet from childhood. #DT1club

    I'm loving your videos. My mom was type 1, so I never tasted regular sodas until I was in college. I was diagnosed in 1999, with type 2. Was put on metformin in the very beginning and still taking it now along with Trulicity. But I understand the people who find out I'm diabetic, including doctors and they immediately making judgments against me. Even worse now, I'm 53 and have 2 forms of Arthritis, Osteo-Arthritis and RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS. But also fibromyalgia and 2 brand new ones diagnosed in 2021 & 2022. One has no cure, so the doctors ignore it and the other one is progressive too. Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy CIDP. Only 1 in 500,000 get it. Most of EVERYONE including doctors have never heard of it so I do a lot of explaining. It causes massive numbness to areas all over me. Making it difficult to get around and my Neurologist likes to remind me that "You're lucky you're not assigned to a wheelchair full time and you're still able to walk, with help.
    I just wanted to thank you, for your videos. I'm watching them especially when I'm feeling low and depressed about all the things I can't do anymore but really want to. -Brightest Blessings

Enter zero carbs and my blood sugar, the Omnipod and the Dexcom take into account, how much insulin I already have on board. Am I wrong to do it this way? Wouldn't having to calculate in your head defeat, the purpose of having the closed loop.

    You need to lower your carbs and any thing with added sugar ! Those readings are high. My mom was at 16-17 and she was having periods of almost blacking out. Very thirsty too. Carbs are broken down into sugar. Diabetes can lead to cancer. Happened with my father brain tumour dead within 3 weeks diagnosis to death……gliblastoma multiforme worse brain tumour to have…….deadly…..plus he had diabetic sores and bleeding feet plus neuropathy nerves dead from high blood sugar.
    Keto carnivore diet is what u need. Strictly low carb. And fruit juices worse thing to have …..fruit has frustose which is processed in the liver…..and can cause fatty liver and fatty pancreas. Watch Dr Ken Berry on UA-cam . Talk about diabetes. Nothing to play around with…..almost lost my mom in April 2022 when her diabetes was in the 16-17 range. She used Berberine and I massively changed her diet.
