I also am grateful that My Heritage does not require you to pay a fee to see the family trees that your DNA matches have constructed on the website. 23andMe does not allow you to build a tree, Ancestry requires a subscription in order to view your DNA match’s complete tree & its details. This really thwarts the objective of the whole project.
@@stephH777 yes, I have their weird bubble tree constructed, but I cannot see any of my match's trees. It's all very limiting for this aspect of 23andMe. It would be super if all great features of the various company platforms would develop at all, or at least one, of the sites. How wonderful that would be to really research well! Connie, Thank you for this. I have been a member of MyHeritage for a few years but have yet to dive into it. I see a lot of things that I like. I can't wait to get started and have it work for my family tree. ~Valerie N. Williams
That’s what i’m hoping for too, it’s been years. I hope they have the technology like ancestry where they can make adjustments to ethnicity if need be. For example, my dad got 51% north western european when all of his known grandparents come from Italy and have Italian last names. I don’t doubt he has north western european ancestry due to him being from the north but I can’t imagine it would be that much when at the very least he’s knows his parents and all his grand parents come from Italy
I hope so too, especially as their database is a good mix of English speaking and European customers, and I also like their regions a little better than ancestry’s. Ancestry severely underestimates my English heritage compared to Scottish. I’m no geneticist, but I find it interesting that they estimate ethnicity by first calculating a most likely value and then using 1000 additional test runs to calculate the range around this most likely value. To me it would make more sense to calculate the estimate based on the average of the 1000 runs, or based on the most commonly occurring value, or some combination of both, as my range always hints I am more English/northwestern Europe than anything else, but this isn’t reflected in my most likely percentage value, where my Scottish and Irish values are always near the top of the range. Should ‘Scottish’ actually be Scotland/Northern England perhaps?
Love the video Connie and thank you Daniel. I have belonged to Ancestry for years and MyHeritage a couple years, and yet to learn how to use it. This was a very helpful video of some of it's capabilities. Thanks Connie. It was awesome.
I recently took out a subscription to My Heritage and I'm struggling to work out how to use it. It kept adding people to the tree in the wrong places so I ended up with people married to their parents! My research will be mainly in Scotland, Ireland and as little in Australia and Canada. Like everything else on the internet it's assumed we all live in America, and all the nation's living on these little islands are just referred to as British. To call a Scottish person British is an insult. Slainte from Edinburgh.
Honestly that's the only thing My Heritage is lacking. if they actually bothered to update their DNA reference panel. I'd say My Heritage would be the number 1 DNA site. 2 and a half years I've been with My Heritage, uploaded my Ancestry DNA data there. Never received any ethnicity updates in that time frame.
So after that "Ethnicity update" that was going to happen, the Ethnicity comparisons you can see when you look at a match is now gone 😭😭😭. The Genetic communities comparisons side by side when you look at a DNA match is gone now as well. Im sad about that being gone. Those were a huge help. Smh 😭😭
I uploaded my DNA from Ancestry to MyHeritage and I have two or three DNA matches with suggested missing people to deal with my 20 year+ brick wall. As I am English I seem to have better matches than on Ancestry even.
I like that they took endogamy into account. I noticed in the last week or so, two of my dad's 2nd cousins finally showed up as "Likely 2nd cousins" in his matches. I also got a hold of my great-uncle's DNA cluster, and yeah, it looks like my grandmother's paternal line and her mother's paternal line had a lot of endogamy (from Mazowieckie, Podlaskie, Southern/Eastern Baltic coast), and many gray squares in the cluster map connecting multiple clusters. NW and SE Polish clusters had no, or not as much endogamy. Still trying to wrap my head around genetic clusters. My dad only gets 3 clusters that my great-uncle has. Along with the Polish clusters, my great-uncle and my dad's 2nd cousins get Scandinavian and Finnish clusters, but my dad gets Lithuanian clusters, and clusters with a mix of Slovakian, Ukrainian, Belarussian and Russian matches, and on top of that, he has matches to his 4th cousins that none of his 1st-3rd cousins have (could be another source of endogamy on his paternal side).
Very informative video as always. Some fascinating new additions to the site. When I started out a couple of years back I had subscriptions to 23 and Me, My Heritage and Ancestry. Over a period of time I quickly discovered that 23 and Me didn't offer me much value beyond the DNA result. I was working between My Heritage and Ancestry but it became increasingly impossible to manage a tree on both sites. Ancestry seemed to be my default and so I stuck with them. I'm now wondering if it's time to have another look at My Heritage and see if there are records there I'm missing. It can become really frustrating when we have so many commercial companies working on parallel lines. I do wish there was more collaboration between them, it would certainly benefit their customers and provide a more holistic service.
I suggest you pick one "go to" tree and then work just the branches you are actively researching on the other platform. Otherwise it is time consuming to keep up on all trees.
Myheritage gentic communities are amazing especially for the Puerto Rican 🇵🇷 community! I've asked this many of times to Myheritage, please give Myheritage more color to their site genetic group like Ancestry. Myheritage looks very dull and boring. I would like to see pictures of my Gentic community like Ancestry, and updates on ethnicities with pictures, more history information on gentic groups and ethnicities. This will attract more people!
I hate the way MyHeritage only allows us to see one DNA match now when reviewing matches whereas before we could see pages of matches. This is definitely a ploy to try and force us to take out membership and I feel this is so unfair. Even if it showed 5 matches that would be fair but just one, is really mean.
Still think the new relationship designation doesn't help much (ie Parent's 2nd cousin /3rd cousin's child) The reason is it can more often be wrong than correct. I have a 4c1r that MH says is 4th cousin's child, but she is in fact a parent's 4th cousin. The reason MH says she's the child is because she's about twenty years younger than me. At the 4th & 5th cousin level, the age factor can be greatly distorted. Just go back to 4c1r and users will just have to learn what "removed" means.
Are you going into cM Explainer & putting in your match’s age & your age in the query boxes? After doing that & putting in your shared cM value, be sure to also select “all relationships“ under the “View” section and check the box for “Show probabilities for MRCA” to see the best calculated results in that tree diagram they present. The chart will boldly highlight the label & circle of your most probable relationship/s. See if that works for you.
I’ve discussed this issue with the creator of the program. It’s mostly on MyHeritage for changing how they identify relationships now. As stated the correct relationship is 4c1r but the cM explainer does not see this relationship as my mom’s fourth cousin but the child to my fourth cousin because she’s 20 years younger. Shared matches at the fourth and fifth cousin level will not necessarily fall within an age distinction, especially when MRCA’s from 150 years ago had six to ten children. Or the man marries twice and has 15 kids over the course of 25-30 years. Uncles could be younger than nephews.
Après 2 ou 3 jours d’attente j’ai de nouveau accès au résultat mais rien ne semble être mis à jours , pire je ne vois pas les groupes . Est ce normal ?

I only had that one chance to do it because when I came back MyHeritage WANTED MORE MONEY. From the results received I am certain that some of the '300' images received at least half were never even touched, they looked NOTHING LIKE ME. My evaluation of My Heritage just went down AGAIN.😞
MyHeritage has one large problem - DNA matches evaluation. The majority of my DNA matches are false positives and many true matches are not detected. There are situations that even 50 cM match is lost. There are situations that large DNA match is present for children and grandparent but it is missing for the parent. When uploading to FTDNA or GEDmatch, the match appears correctly. There are many DNA matches that appear on children but not on any parent. Again, FTDNA/GEDmatch shows it correctly. I have already discussed it with MyHeritage support several time, they accepted this is an error but told me they cannot do anything with that.
