Cenk grounded us, finding some things worth wild in this head-scratching curriculum. Ana you popped off. Ana are you most upset at the sticker price or the indoctrination? Would age appropriateness change how you felt? If test scores increased, would that change how you feel? The public school system didn't do much for me, aside from having tons of fun. If in Woke Kindergarten curriculum there was a 'how to organize' module, it's worth the $250K.

As an educator I can tell you that curriculum is a scam. Schools change their curriculum every few years so that textbook manufacturers can make tons of money.
What's a scam are ideological think tanks pushing curriculum and guidelines through federal and state grants to teachers unions and school districts. Without the knowledge or consent of parents.

As a teacher let’s teach young children to treat each other with decency while teaching the basics and move on! Bullying hurts young children more than so called ‘whiteness’! By teaching how to READ will lead students to understand WHAT they are reading!
This doesn't even sound right. So the program had nothing to do with reading or writing, but this school purchased this program. This is suspicious, and the parents should be angry. The school failed their children. Who received this money?? This is fraud!!

I have studied both anti-semitic literature as well as CRT and current "anti-racist" literature.
This 'anti-racist' material borrows heavily from original CRT, but it is broader. You can spot it by key buzzwords like: 'Systemic racism,' 'white privilege,' 'white fragility,' 'whiteness studies,' 'anti-racism' 'white-adjacent,' 'BIPOC,' 'intersectionality' 'de-colonize' etc.
To me, there are undeniable similarities between anti-jewish materials and the anti-white tone of a lot of "anti-racism" materials.
Anti-jewish authors assert that jews control everything & use this control to oppress everyone else. Current "anti-racism" literature asserts that whites control everything & use this control to oppress everyone else.
If you took, say, David Duke's book "Jewish Supremacism" and just replaced the word "jew" with "white," you could take lengthy passages of that book and hand it out as "anti-racism" material in schools or colleges and I am positive that many students would never know the difference. I am not being hyperbolic.
Also, they both have a similar obsession with labeling even trivial things as jewish / white and therefore bad. There is a tone of "we must be cleansed of everything jewish / white." The above shopping cart example is a good illustration. There are tons of these examples in "anti-racism" materials. Eg

Schools are supposed to be in the education business, NOT the indoctrination business. Teach kids the basic skills and concepts first, make sure that they have a basic general literacy and are fundamentally proficient with STEM, and then allow them to objectively learn about philosophy, politics, and other humanities and make up their own minds in these subjects. Whether one has a right-wing, left-wing, or center perspective, to do anything else is preposterous.

I work for a school and one of my jobs is vetting new curriculum and making sure it's appropriate for grade level. This is not. I'd like to see proof that this was ever implemented in any school for those grade levels.
So, is TYT *finally* acknowledging then that CRT and CRT-related concepts are not exclusively taught in "graduate-level law classes?" Before they would constantly make fun of people who claimed otherwise.

OK.. as a progressive, I find this VERY disturbing. School should be about reading, writing, math, geography, etc. You need to give kids a foundation of actual education (not political bs) to help prepare them to enter society. In senior high school (10-12) you should enter heavy critical thinking skills, give a solid understanding of HOW our government actually works, etc. Things they will soon need to know to stand on their own. We don't need to teach politicized garbage in our schools.

Where'd you hear that definition? I always understood 'woke' to be a non-standard variant for awake which then was used by some Black Americans to mean to be aware of and alert to unfair discrimination and prejudices against them at any given time and then still later it came to be perceived as being aware of any racial or social injustice and bringing it to the attention of authorities or people it could negatively affect as well as disempowering it through confrontation.

@@eja1258 I am older than dirt. That is a co-opted definition. It has roots in the spiritual. Too often people think that because something was used more recently it changes the original context, or that they invented it, or it's new. In some cases it does. I have watched dictionary definitions change over the years to reflect just that. The roots and principles are even found in scripture, but I would not want to bore you, and that obviously predates anything from the current like say '23 , by a Jamaican philosopher, '31 in a song, and that is before it gets to the '40s which is what you are kind of referencing, then there is a play in the 70's, in another song in 08, it was more politicized in 2014 after the Michael Brown death. It did not even make the Oxford Dictionary until 2017. I left plenty of stuff out, till present day where it's now used as a slur by the right wing in an attempt to destroy.

@@MajimeTVFreire was a Brazilian Marxist pedagogue, his pedagogy of the oppressed had a lot of influence in Latin America, basically Marxism, Fidel Castro and Mao praised him, but they never adopted his system because his students learned a lot about Marxism but they did not learn to read or write beyond a basic level.
Educational note from a biologist: Middle Easterners are actually Caucasian (white supremecists hate this fact) Yes. They are the same race as White ppl. Ok. Now that we have that straight, there are three main groups; Mongoloids, Caucasoids and Negroids (and debate about Pacific Islanders that I won't get into). So Cenk, you are most likely Caucasian.
And frankly any more these days we are all quite mixed. Most ppl are shocked to know that many Mexicans and South Americans are also Caucasian. While Native Americans are predominately Mongoloid which also encompasses the East Asians, but even they have fairly significant genetic similarities to Northern Eurasians (Russians etc).
It is complex and nuanced but most ppls fall into the three aformentioned catagories or some amalgamation of them.
So racial identity is NOT the same as race genetics. For example Chenk does not identify as white like most middle easterners, yet genetically/scientifically speaking they are. I know this is uncomfortable for ppl to hear when their whole lives they have thought of themselves as a particular race, but I think it can be helpful for ppl to learn these facts bc perhaps it can bridge some percieved gaps and open ppl's minds to a greater understanding and acceptance of who we are as a species.

I'm happy to have spent the last 30 years teaching in UK schools. We are multi racial and multi cultural and are proud to be pretty woke over here. Students can challenge and recognise racism and teens have been happy to come out to their peers. A solid win for happiness, empathy and civility
General logic should be central to any education. The reason children and adults are susceptible to these rhetorical devices is because they lack basic logic. When the media or a politician or preacher use racism and fear to motivate you into some form of action the only defense is logic.

I still watch them but cautiously now. But I still like a lot of the staff and even thought their swing to Ruben era I still like when run stories that are not charged with easy layups to dunk on the left to prove they are safe to watch.
I feel like we are going to find out later that the scores being reported fabricated. That the district is struggling but they used this non profit as a reason why. For all we know they come in 30 minutes a week and have mostly chill topics that aren't charged with this poorly framed delivery of knowledge.

I largely agree with Cenk and Ana's criticism, but I am 99% sure that when the circulumn calls for "distrupting Whiteness" they are referring to "Whiteness" as a concept and the dismantling of race classifcations generally (cause "race" is scientifically bunk and harmful to society). Not that you should disrupt the lives of ppl who happen to have low melanin levels in their skin.
Obviously, the main issue is that kindergarteners are not gonna have the brain power to understand the difference between societal Whiteness (which is rlly just white supremacy) and 'White People' as a phenotypic demographic which is why this is more of a discussion for middle/high school.
