    Been following you since I started 3D printing. I rarely comment, but I think this was very useful. I've been using Orca for a while now and did not know of this feature. Thanks!

      I still use Cura for Ender 3’s and Orca for Klipper machines. I’m working on converting my Ender 3 profiles to Orca though.

    Hi! I just wanted to tell you that it has been a while, but your videos have helped me get started with 3d printing and I am very grateful for it (I couldn't use any of my printers back then due to how much tinkering they needed and your videos really broke it down for me.). (I swear when I watched you before you used to have much more views.) Anyway, thank you and also you inspired me to make my own channel :)

      Since Bambulab printers were released I’ve seen a big drop in views. Guess people just need less help.

    I cannot believe the timing of this video Chuck! I've been using Orca for over a year and today I finally wanted to try out height range modifiers. Came here to YT and searched and your video was the first suggestion and the only one I needed. Thanks for the continued great content!

    Thank You VERY MUCH for that information. I need to get away from Cura and learn orca and or Prusa slicers. Again. THANK YOU

    You can also use adaptive layer height and manually paint the transitions, making them smoother

  • @UNVME
    @UNVME 2 місяці тому

    I think i like changing layer height this way better than using adaptive layer height.
    I like to have control, and this does that.
    Thanks!

    • @FilamentFriday
      @FilamentFriday  2 місяці тому

      Plus you can go up and down in the same print vs adaptive which typically only goes one direction.

      Orca slicer will go above and below your set layer height. I just don't really like how it does it. I liked Cura better for this, but I left Cura when it didn't work very well on my Linux machine.

    • @FilamentFriday
      @FilamentFriday  2 місяці тому

      That’s fine but the point was to show the height tool option.

    I made a couple wands including this model a few years ago. My advice, cut it in half, print the two halves, glue it together, and then paint. Add a layer of varnish and dull coat if you want cut down on the shine.
    They ended up lookin great and are much tougher when made this way. I printed them in PETG to minimize shrinkage. It's very hard to find the seam after you finish painting them.

      @FilamentFriday  2 місяці тому

      Completely agree. I did that years ago but the point of this video was to show the height tool, wand was just the prop.

    This is one for the bookmarks, just switched over from ideamaker which was my go to for years. Then the new update went a bit weird for me and I've been using orca slicer but couldn't figure this out.
    I still use idea maker for hard to remove supports because for some reason their settings are so perfect for supports. Might have to see if I can find out what they are and load them into orca.

    It would be good if you could make the outer wall layer height half of the height of the inner walls and infill. That way it would be possible to have a good surface finish without a long printing time.

    • @FilamentFriday
      @FilamentFriday  2 місяці тому

      You could just print in vase mode and then inject any infill you want after printing.

    Do you use Orca-Slicer with an Ender 3 as well as your K1-Max? Been trying to find a good Orca-Slicer Ender-3 profile...

    I loved the implementation of a little shelf under sagging overhang using tinker cad in a past video, in orca I’m using the cone from add part option scaling it small enough to merge it with the overhang and rotating it 180 so the flat part of the cone is facing up, I just started playing with this technique but I see ways to multiply or clone to follow it along the line you want to support but haven’t had progress there,do you think that would be possible straight from orca ?I like the technique to save on unnecessary support and get higher quality prints

    • @FilamentFriday
      @FilamentFriday  2 місяці тому

      Why not just use a modifier to add support only in that area?

    • @orangefeelrelaxingmusic898
      @orangefeelrelaxingmusic898 2 місяці тому

      @@FilamentFriday that was the idea, to avoid using unnecessary support, it’s only to extend a very small area like for example the underside of a letter printing vertically so the base of the letter doesn’t sag just like the chep cube in the video fixing the letters with a cad program to modify stl.s but now I think it could be done straight from the slicer, love the technique to modify the stl to add little ramps for better quality using cad programs but if this way works out , takes away having to get the stl to a cad and be able to do it straight from the slicer, big time saver

    hey Chep, I recently looked into doing manual supports in Cura and came across your video. I know it's an older video but it seems that basically all plugins in Cura that did manual supports no longer exist? I'd be great if you could create a new video on a way to do it.

    • @FilamentFriday

      @FilamentFriday I'd be interested in this also. And if you can do a mix of tree supports with normal supports. I've come across things where I'd like to both but don't know if you can that in Prusaslicer/BambuSlicer/OrcaSlicer. Haven't used Cura in several years so not sure if it can be done.

    I really like how the Prusaslicer/Superslicer/Orcaslicer family of slicers makes height range modifiers much simpler than having to wade through Cura's post-processing script function. Post-processing scripts can be powerful and can make some things easier to find than the usual skim through the endless settings listings, but having to basically slice files twice (or more times, if you need to tweak the scripts at all) does get annoying.
    That being said, I've never had luck getting good prints out of Orcaslicer. I also really can't stand the interface at all, I am highly accustomed to everything being on the right of the screen rather than the left (it reminds me of how much I prefer desktop icons aligned to the right on my Mac at home versus having to suffer with them aligned to the left on Windows machines at work). I'd love to promote Superslicer more - it's Prusaslicer without the handcuffs - but I find it harder and harder to do so every day because of how slow the pace of development has become, even with the project owner supposedly getting sponsored and becoming a full-time developer. Features in other slicers, like tree/organic supports and the ability to add text are sorely missing and the intrinsic advantages that Superslicer has are being overshadowed by just how far behind it is in other areas. Like Simplify3D, albeit without the stultifying purchase and upgrade prices.

      Creality Print v5.x is based on orca/prusa slicer but layed out similar to Cura.

      I was an avid Prusa slicer user until I tried Orca. You should give it a shot, its free and you can always go back.. There are a lot of good features, and this is just my experience, but it just prints better with Orca. Idk. I'm an Orca user now.

      I prefer the Orca Slicer layout to Prusa Slicer layout. Same slicer engine.
