- A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper was airlifted to a hospital after he was involved in a major crash caused by a speeding driver on I-10 East near Highway 61, officials said.
This story is still very sad considering the innocent driver of the van is dead. Nobody seems to be giving their condolences for him but are praising the fact that the trooper survived his injuries. Someone is still dead at the end of the day and that person's life is just as important as the troopers.
I AGREE! ALL LIVES MATTER. I feel the pain of that persons family. I hope that drunk can feel the pain they caused. No doubt, on their way to work, and some POS gets them killed 😢

Van driver died
The van driver was probably distracted and didn’t see the police activity for whatever reason. My condolences to the van driver and his family. Also a speedy recovery to the State Trooper who risked his life trying to keep everyone on the highway safe.
I'm not so sure how "innocent" the driver of the van is. Those police lights were a flashing and an obstruction was in the road long enough for the trooper to exit his vehicle and start to deal with the situation.
Yet the van just plowed into the emergency response scene.
Am I getting this wrong?
I am so lost he said the guy that was driving the van died but then he said the driver that was driving the van is in jail, so which one is it? Is he dead or is he in jail?
Happy the trooper is alive and heading to recovery! Lucky

Very sad. The lesson seems to be…PAY ATTENTION when driving!!!! Put down the phone, eliminate distractions, & think about hurtling down the road at 70 mph in a tin can(don’t care how “sturdy” your vehicle is, you hit something at freeway speeds & it’s gonna hurt).

Two cop cars with lights on. I don't understand how it could happen. Those lights are visible from a good distance.

Praise God the Texas State Trooper is going to be okay. Prayers for the family of the person who died in the van. I realize gun violence is rising but it is the person involved just like drunk driving. My husband was in law enforcement for 32 years and worked I-10 traffic during a portion of that time. We told our children driving a vehicle is like handling a loaded weapon. You can kill someone with it as quick as firing a gun. The idea for use of both a gun or a vehicle is to use them responsibly. Now this person drank too much alcohol and decided to drive on I-10 no less has caused the loss of someone’s life and affected that family and their own family. What a nightmare this person has to look forward to in the coming years! At least the Trooper survived!

THIS WHOLE STORY IS ABOUT THE TROOPER. NO REPORTING ABOUT THE DECEASED AND HIS FAMILY.. THIS WOULDNT HAPPEN IF THEY STOP PULLING PPL OVER ON THE HIGHWAY. THEY TELL YOU IF YOU HAVE A FLAT TIRE PULL OFF YET THEYFORCE YOU TO STAY ON THE HIGHWAY FOR A STOP.

The drunk stopped in the middle of the highway. They were trying to clear the road when the wreck happened.
It's not just about that 1 drunk dude. Ppl are always stopped on the highway. . I've seen a whole family with kids pulled out of a vehicle on the freeway to shake them down. Cars passing at 70mph

The trooper had stopped a drunk driver on the freeway. There was no high speed pursuit. The drunk driver stopped his car in the middle of the road however, not on the shoulder as usual. A speeding van then crashed into the trooper's vehicle, killing the driver of the van.

It wasn’t a pursuit?? They were on a traffic stop investigating DWI. The van didn’t see them and impacted the Troop’s Tahoe.

@Oscar Ochoa y'all are both wrong. The drunk was stopped in the middle lane. The police were behind the drunk probably seeing what his deal was. The speeding van came and hit the patrol car. The van driver caused their own death.

Sentence the drunk driver to death, maybe then people will get it. Then again, no they won’t. Needs to be a harsh punishment, you DUI and take a life, then you lose yours. No ifs ands or buts! You kill someone while under the influence, your life is automatically forfeit.
