Neat fact! In Puzzle Fighter, Dan's garbage line pattern is all red, which is easily counterable to show how weak he is. Basically, he's the hardest character to play because you have to play pretty much perfect. If you notice during the Gem Fighter portion, every time Dan hits his opponent, the only color gem to pop out is red.
Edit: The only time this doesn't happen is when he hits the opponent with his dad.
seeing this before watching vid and knowing nothing about any fighters makes it quite incomprehensible thanks!

Dan does have one notable upside: His attacks have very high multipliers, similar but notably less than say Akuma's, so if you get one good blast things just Die
@@syrelianMan, I love it when a character's gameplay style reflects their story/personality, like yeah Dan's technique is shoddy and very hard to use which is reflected in his singular color, but the fact he has one of the highest multipliers also matches how he's apparently has the potential to become the strongest character in the Street Fighter verse
LOVE the sheer LACK of any hesitation or second thought when Lark refers to an alien as an Ayyy Lmao at 20:35. Like it comes so naturally to him that not once in any of his brain cells did he think of it as anything else.

Fun Tetris Attack Trivia: Even though it's called "Tetris" Attack, it has nothing to do with tetris, nor is it a new way to play tetris. It is in fact, the localized version (for western audiences) of a game known as "Panel de Pon", where both Tetris Attack and Panel de Pon have major differences between them. The major differences between them mostly involve graphical changes. They also licensed and put the "Tetris" trademark in it's name to specifically market it towards western audiences believing it would sell well, since Tetris was, and still is, one of the best-selling video game franchises in the west. While Tetris Attack had characters from the Yoshi subseries, Panel de Pon had original characters, mostly magical, elemental fairy girls, and is also where Lip, the main protagonist of the game, comes from, who some astute smash fans have seen her referenced in smash, most notably with the "Lip's Stick" item, which is a flower staff that puts flowers on players.
And this wasn't the only rebranding Panel De Pon had which included new graphics/franchises, Pokemon Puzzle League came into existence after a N64 Panel de Pon game was canned, so they used the code to make this pokemon-branded side game instead. The N64 Panel de Pon eventually was released in the Japanese-only game titled "Nintendo Puzzle Collection" for the Gamecube, which also included versions of Dr. Mario and Yoshi's Cookie.
EDIT: Eventually, the localized version of Panel de Pon, being Tetris Attack, got released in Japan as "Yoshi no Panepon". I recommend playing the OG Panel de Pon if you ever want to look into an obscure piece of nintendo history, there is an english TL patch for the SNES rom so you don't have to learn japanese ;))

Suddenly in Puzzle Fighter Lark becomes the scariest man alive
I thought no other retro fighter would appeal to me quite like _Darkstalkers_ does, but _Super Gem Fighter_ has blown me away. Fighters all have multiple costume designs as part of their moveset, you can get launched and bounce off three edges of the screen, randomized KO animations, every Capcom character showed up to the event and they're just chilling, Hsien-Ko turns into a tiny panda with a hat on a giant circus ball and flattens you like a pancake. Also, Talbain's cameo appearances carry more Darkstalkers-type charm than he had as a playable character in the actual Darkstalkers.
Look into Pocket Fighter, its where most of these sprites and animations came from, and is a chaotic mess of hilarity
Just a little note on the Anita part at around 13:45
She has actually made another playable appearance, and it was in Marvel Super Heroes, where is considered absolutely broken
Wasn't she also in Capcom Fighting Jam? (Could be Fighting Evolution, don't remember the differences between the two.)
@@toxictincan Nah she wasn't in Fighting Evolution. The only Darkstalkers characters were Felicia, Demetri, Anakaris, Jedah, and Pyron. Also Fighting Jam is just the japanese name of Fighting Evolution

That "Hyper deformed" thing, some model kits I've built from the gundam anime series are called "Super Deformed" (SD for short), I've seen kits from Kotobukiya and other manufacturers use the same term so I assume that is the term for that specific set of proportions, where "SD" is the term they put on the box.
From my understanding it was meant to be a cuter chibi version of characters to appeal to a wider audience. (Cus as we all know chibi 20 foot tall death robots are adorable)
Let me put on my otaku nerd glasses here. "Super Deformed," or "SD," is the more common term for the style in Japan, whereas "chibi" is the more common term used in the west. Weird because Super Deformed is clearly in English and chibi is clearly Japanese, but it isn't the first time weebs have weirdly appropriated a Japanese word. The most famous example is a word that might get my comment flagged on UA-cam

Its because he is usually worse than Gray at fighting games. Atleast from what i can tell, having watched many of the Street Fighter vods and such, Lark seems to lose more often than Gray.

Puzzle Fighter is indeed based on Puyo-Puyo (not puyo puyo tetris, the switch crossover game), but that’s a separate series from Tetris Attack, which is based on Panel de Pon, a completely separate game.

I may have said this on the VOD channel (I can’t remember), but Puzzle Fighter II Turbo used to be on the Capcom Arcade app for iPhones/iPods and I’m sad that the app doesn’t exist anymore. It’s a ton of fun and I wish there was a game that played like it. I’ve played Puyo Puyo and Puyo Puyo Tetris and they’re similar, but they don’t feel quite the same.

I'd love to see these two puzzle their way through other FG franchises too, I think they'd get a kick out of some of the truly wacky shit in the Guilty Gear games, which have some of the most wild character designs/concepts I've ever seen. That and instant kills + the fact that guilty gear 2(?) is a third-person RTS for some reason

i remember playing this fanmade lucky☆star fighter and having ZERO idea what any of the mechanics were or what they had to do with the show, but after seeing gameplay of gem fighter it's so fucking clear it's just that. even down to the weird costume combos and the gem bars. i have to go like ruminate about this on top of a mountain or some shit what am i supposed to do with my life now

I hate that everybody plays Pocket Fighter like it's just a casual game and they play it for all the fun arts and references. This game is deeper than your ordinary Post 09 fighting games
"Chibi" just means small. For example, you could give a young girl the nickname "Chibiko", which literally just means "little girl".
I think the Chibis don’t work because they are still like normal and not simplistic so it looks less like a silly version of em and more like a weird midget of them
